Old Cannon Brewery Restaurant in St Edmundsbury

We stayed over to go to the apex and had dinner and breakfast. Couldn't fault this place, great location, super room, amazing staff and food, you will not be disappointed. We will be back, thanks team for making us feel so welcome. If you are a dog owner and choose to stay one of the cute pooches was given their own sausage for breakfast, such a cool touch.

Stayed for 1 night. Facilities in the room were good, nice bathroom goodies. Breakfast was excellent. Our dog was made very welcome. Only downside was the lack of parking, but no biggy!

Great service but food overpriced. Eatable but £18.50 for a burger just too much. Chips out of a packet and dessert, cheesecake was tasty but plastic feels to the filling.

We travelled from Scotland to stay with family in Norfolk. We used to live in Bury St Edmunds so thought it would be a nice idea to return and visit some old haunts. We dropped our bag off late morning and the lady couldn’t be more helpful. We returned to book in after 3pm and Anna showed us to our room which was lovely, clean and had everything we needed. I slept very well and the breakfast the next morning was fabulous. I had the avocado smash and my husband had the fully cooked breakfast. Anna again served us and was pleasant and efficient. Would definitely highly recommend and we will be returning in the future. Thank you so much.

Worth the walk out of the town centre. This busy brewpub and restaurant had good beer brewed on site and good food. The staff were friendly, so nothing to fault here.

The Can made us so welcome - couldn’t do enough. It was definately best choice for our celebration/get together! Plus as it was a Tuesday night we all had the pie/pint - delicious. Thank you we will be back 🏐💛🖤

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. He liked the real ales. The only down side was the room we had was overlooked and there wasn't any blinds or half nets so we had to be careful walking about the room. The downside for me not being a football fan was that the England game was being shown in the courtyard and it was very noisy but the breakfast in the morning made up for it. The staff were all very friendly.

Don't believe the hype, expensive but not good. Had the brisket roast. Brisket was very tough and overly smoked. No mention that it was smoked on the menu. On a positive note we received a 50% refund. Still won't be going back. I don't mind paying the price so long as the quality reflects the price, this does not

We stopped for lunch, I had the ceaser salad which was okay, the Parmesan was done as a tuile and chopped up but I’d have preferred fresh, I paid £5 extra for a very small over cooked piece of chicken. My husband had the chicken burger again it was over cooked and he also asked for chunky chips but got skin on fries. We were over charged by £4:45 on the salad but they did refund this when I mentioned it. The drinks are good.

Had a brilliant evening in the covered courtyard area for a large group of about 40 (half children). Hannah and team cooked a fantastic chilli with brownies and ice cream for pudding. Ice cream wasn't just a scoop but a lovely pot of luxury chocolate ice cream each 😋. Staff were lovely and really helpful. So many happy memories made. Thank you

Excellant Sunday Roast dinner for family. The food was excellent quality; beer was superb ; children’s meals great and allowed dog too. Well worth a trip. Staff were really lovely and made us welcome.

Awful. Rude woman staff member. Beer was not fresh. We left and went elsewhere. Didn’t bother trying to get a refund. Shame as it was so good when we first came here.

Stayed overnight for my partners birthday. Had a couple of pints each in the bar & enjoyed their beer. Room had everything we needed, although we had to watch a YouTube video to get the nespresso machine to work as there were no instructions & water was coming out the back! Went elsewhere to eat in town in evening but had breakfast there in the morning before checking out & it was very good. We’re both vegetarian & the veggie cooked breakfast was good plus there were cereals, pastries, fruit etc. The girl serving breakfasts was especially friendly & the service was excellent. Great value for money stay, would recommend.

Finding myself stranded locally due to car trouble, despite the late hour, the staff graciously arranged a last-minute room for me, saving the day. To my delight, even though the kitchen had closed, they whipped up some fries paired with an unexpected and mouthwatering side of pork belly! With a few glasses of chilled Prosecco to unwind, what began as a stressful situation transformed into an unexpected journey of self-care and relaxation. Their genuine hospitality and attentive service truly made my evening. The room was a haven of comfort, stocked with everything I needed – from shampoos and conditioners to hot chocolate, biscuits, and a variety of teas. And let’s not forget the incredibly comfortable bed, where I slept like a dream. The next morning, I was treated to a fabulous breakfast spread, offering a combo of buffet options and hot dishes, all made with top-notch ingredients. Needless to say, I’ll be eagerly planning my return! (Hopefully next time with a fully functioning car! Haha!)

Only one vegan option which was called a mushroom burger, which I had thought would be a burger with mushrooms in it. It was 3 large flat mushrooms, which were very tasty, had slices of roast pepper, gherkins etc and a generous portion of chips. On average adults need 50g of protein in total each day. Compared to my partner who had the ribs which were apparently very tasty, my vegan meal was very low in protein (I do find this a lot with vegan options). It would have been great to mix the mushrooms with nuts, tofu or pulses to get some protein in there and make it a burger. Great atmosphere and great staff. Espresso served in a regular coffee cup.

Clean and comfortable rooms breakfast excellent . Beds are very comfortable and shower for us women is good and strong for washing hair.

Stayed 24th and 25th December. Room exceptionally clean and very reasonably priced. Breakfast superb and cooked to order. Also had a Family Christmas dinner which was very good. Staff always very friendly and helpful.

We came here on a Monday evening and very grateful that they were open. The service is lovely with extremely friendly and affable staff. The portions were enormous, we had the soup for starters and that would have been a whole meal in itself. The place was very lively with families and friends in a celebratory mood. I loved the decorations too

Family Saturday lunch. Great food, service and atmosphere. We asked in advance for a special diet meal and they prepared something off-menu just for one of us. Parking is tricky - try Ram Meadow long-stay (8-10 mins walk). Thoroughly recommended.

Great place to eat and drink. Stayed bed and breakfast. Great choice of real ales brewed on site. All staff very friendly and helpful. Room was on the front, but still quite. Breakfast was first class. Would certainly recommend and hopefully we will visit again. Good value for money.
