My husband and I visited for a light lunch, Scampi, chips and mushy peas and Halloumi and fries. The meals were were really nice cooked to perfection. The staff that looked after us James and Kathleen were very professional and attentive. Definitely going back.

Good value for an English pub. A lot of choices including specials. Friendly service. Higher quality than its competitors.

I visited this pub recently and it was an absolutely perfect meal. Everything was on point, the service, the food and the atmosphere. I have to give a special thank you to our waiter Thomas, he treated us very well! Will be coming again soon.

Sadly very disappointing. The service was extremely slow and at times staff didn’t know what they were doing. We waited 30 minutes to order our food. Then waited another 40 minutes for it to arrive, which only came once we reminded them of it. The food itself was poor. The manager was very apologetic and understanding of our unhappiness. But sadly cannot recommend.

Excellent service always and food really nice

The middle aged man working as a waiter was astonishingly rude. On arrival, he wouldn't stop tutting and shaking his head as I told him I didn't have a reservation. The passive aggressive speech was ridiculous. It's obvious that the man hates his job. Food was mediocre.

Went for lunch on a Monday afternoon. Food was great and came very fast. Naomi and Josh were great.

Pretty poor tbh. I had the gluten free option of chipolatas followed by a mixed grill. The sausages tasted of cardboard and the steak was like shoe leather - despite me asking for rare. The gammon was about the only acceptable thing on the plate.

A lovely meal for 6 of us.all food delivered as ordered and well presented. Will come again.

Our recent family visit to The Old Bell was fantastic. From the moment we walked in, Steve and Mada's warm and friendly service made us feel right at home. The menu offers a great variety, with something for everyone. Every dish was cooked to perfection, and the kids enjoyed their meals as much as we did. We ended our meal with desserts that were both delicious and beautifully presented. Overall, The Old Bell provided an excellent dining experience with delicious food and exceptional service. We look forward to returning and highly recommend it.

Gorgeous little pub in lovely rural surroundings! Arrived as part of a large group passing through for a wedding in the area. The friendly staff were happy to accomodate our booking and nothing was too much trouble. Delicious food, and a decent pint of Guinness as well! Special thanks to Madalina, James and Katheleen for their friendly and attentive service. Highly recommended. :)

A pretty average experience all round. We live locally and have been here a few times, the menu has changed recently and we can't comment on every dish. The food we have tried has been fine overall, but nothing special. Some dishes have been great, others clearly lacked seasoning or just fell down by using cheap ingredients. The service was fast but inaccurate, missing several items, or dishes arriving with items that we had asked to be removed. The atmosphere is good, it's a nice building with a decent range of drinks. Definitely give it a try, you might drop on a good day.

Lovely staff (the waiters were young but very pleasant and efficient). Lady behind the bar was friendly. Food was delicious, good portion sizes. Deducted one star for atmosphere only because it was quiet. The restaurant itself was lovely.

After reading all the positive reviews, I was really disappointed with my Bank Holiday experience. Arrived pre-booked and got put in a quiet empty corner and we're pretty much forgotten about. After going to the bar twice to remind them, we eventually got our food 45 minute after arriving. Burger and chicken were average at best, place lacked atmosphere and the service was poor. We were a table of two and the place was quiet!! Shame. There are better options locally.

Had a great Sunday lunch. Love all the food and the guys service was above and beyond.

Service was haphazard and very very slow. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait, which was acceptable. This turned out to be 90 minutes. The food was ok but the chips were cold and probably reheated, not fresh. We didn't wait for a dessert. Would not recommend this pub.

Went to the Old Bell a few weeks ago to visit a friend, the food was great and the waiters and waitresses were amazing the manager however seemed to be berating the staff members for insignificant things that they had no control over. After speaking to a friend who used to work there it seems this is very common. I will not be going back for this reason and I hope that manager is removed as soon as possible.

I ate at The Old Bell over two nights while staying next door during time away while I was studying on a course. The staff provided amazing customer service and the food was excellent (vegetarian options were great). Could not recommend enough.

Very rode would not let me order food

Fairly poor. We visit this pub regularly as it is very local to us. We are a large family of 6 so bring a lot of custom to the Old Bell. In all honestly we were pretty shocked by our recent booking. We came into the pub and were sat down by a gentleman called Mike. He was chatty which was lovely! He informed us that there was no Beef for any of the roast dinners this evening as they had a busy lunch service (understandable). Mike began to take our order, we asked if we could order a roast dinner, with the pork and turkey. He advised this won’t be possible, which I then advised him (myself having worked in a greene king pub previously, and working currently is a 5star luxury hotel) that if he was to put it through as a trio roast and give extra of either turkey or pork due to their no beef then it would work that way! Little frustrated that someone from a management team was clearly not up to date and confident enough with their own menu. Anyway, we went on to order starters, some chicken starters and some garlic bread to come out with the starters. All was good until the start began to arrive, 2 chicken dishes arrived, at which point he asked if we wanted garlic bread with our starters? And if so, he would get the chefs to plate it up. We said yes, as we had already advised this is what we wanted. 15 minutes later, 2 plates or garlic bread showed up, everyone else had finished starters so the timings just felt awfully wrong. Mains came out, two of the roasts were incorrectly plated, so had to be sent back. I had asked for a chicken starter to come as a main with a side of chips, I received my chicken and chips followed out 15 minutes later. It got to the stage where we had to send it back to the kitchen so many times and all food being brought in and out at such separated times that we decided to no longer have our main course, simply just pay and leave as we honestly were just fed up of the fact waiting and the complete mixture of times we were getting our food. Mike removed a couple of dishes from our bill, although appreciated, still unsatisfied with our visit and feel that something further should be done to prevent this from happening again in the future. In all honesty as a big family of 6 we are fairly put off from eating at the Old Bell again.

Having been going to the pub regularly for a number of years with a group of friends it is disappointing to have to write this review. The new Manager is clearly trying to put the pub out of business through their appalling attitude and the way she speaks to customers. I feel sorry for the staff that have to work for her. Unfortunately we have now decided to meet somewhere else.

Brilliant place food fantastic staff great would eat here again

Service very slow. Vegetables tasteless, guessing frozen. Slow cooked steak and ale pie was awful the mash potato looked solidified. There was also an ant on the table.

The Griffin - Caversham The worse bar staff I have ever come across. Really rude. Got my drinks wrong then moaned even though it was their mistake. When I said why are you in hospitality? I was told I was rude even though they were aggressive because they didn’t get my order right. I will never be using the Griffin again. I have never been to a pub where not only do they need to look at a guide to make a drink but moan and be offensive to there custom. I had booked a meal but refused to eat after such behaviour. You need to hire people who actually want to work in the industry and management which can run the bar and restaurant and provide a service that you can be proud of. The men on that evening was the rudest I’ve ever come across. I have had better service from McDonald’s and will never return! Such a big shame, as the Griffin used to be a lovely place to eat and drink!

We visited the Old Bell, Grazeley for lunch today and had a great time. The food was good and we were very well looked after. David was happy to chat with us and even ran after me when I left my coat. Highly recommended.

We had a nice time here, the food was lovely. Portion size was also really good, service was prompt and the whole place had a lovely warm vibe. The manager was really friendly too, Would love to visit again.

Just had a lovely eve with two friends. We were served by Mike and Dan and had a great meal. The service was brilliant. We were not rushed at all and both Mike and Dan were really personable. Great eve.

The food is reasonably priced and very good.

Went in for a Sunday roast, had the rib of beef and it was excellent, good quality and lots of veg and gravy. Very warm welcome from the staff, our dogs were really happy as well. Good selection of beers and wines.

Seven of us booked for Sunday lunch, 3 or which were children. The adults enjoyed a marvelous Sunday roast and the children were catered for extremely well with a varied menu which they all devoured with gusto! Mike and the team gave us fantastic service with all meals coming out at the same time and served with politeness and a smile. Would highly recommended the food and the Guinness was perfect. 😋😋😋

A lovely quiet pub with lots of food options. They cater for everyone...Good gluten free and Vegan options. Would always recommend!

Great food, great service. Not too busy whilst we were there but had a nice little corner nook for our party out of the way so the kids could run around without disturbing other diners. Reasonable prices too

A 4 star for this pub & restaurant. We went here for our Christmas dinner the first week of December (Saturday 18:30) booked a few months before. We have pre-ordered meals for our dinner and pre-paid the meals as well. We all arrived around 18:30-18:45. Upon arriving, we ordered drinks first, however, drinks came almost 15-20 minutes after we ordered them, and there were not many people at that time. So we just didn’t mind first since we understood that there might be a few waiting staff. The next one, was when they asked us if we were ready for our meals, and we said yes. But it took them to bring out our pre-ordered meals at least another 30 minutes (I thought thinking, shouldn’t be ready a few minutes after our appointed time so we could then start?) I have been to other Christmas dinners in restaurants and also pre-ordered meals and it can be really fast (regardless if there were lots of people). When they served our food, they didn’t know who ordered who. So we had to check again our emails about what we ordered. I thought they would just call our names like (burger for -name-) but that wasn’t the case. And we were famished at that time. Same with the dessert it took a while to be served as well around 15 minutes after our meal. So it was like we were there from 18:30- 21:30 which is a really long time. On another note. The food I ordered was good. It was the festive burger, the balance of the ingredients was great and the meat was tender. As for the dessert, I had Christmas pudding and I was not a fan of it. I couldn’t finish it since it was too sweet, too much raisin and cinnamon. As for the staff, David tried to entertain us which we really appreciate. So I think there’s still room for improvement.

Table hadn’t been cleared. Waited about 45 minutes for my roast dinner and the wrong one turned up. I had to ask for cutlery. Veg was cold, plate was cold and the meat was tough. Ate what I could as I was hungry, but really not good enough. I wasn’t the only diner who had problems as I could see other customers had a long wait and some were also served the wrong food too.Have eaten here before and it was fine, so saddened to see these problems.

Food okay. Service was great in the beginning, but then we were forgotten

I regularly meet a friend for lunch here. It’s a great place to go. It has a good menu reasonably priced but more importantly it’s always cooked beautifully. I’ve been to a few Chef & Brewers but this is undoubtedly the best one I’ve been to. Also the Ladies loo is beautifully decorated and always spotless when I’ve visited.

One of my favourite places and I visit regularly from overseas!!! A real treat every time, don't miss out!

Stayed for a few days at the Premier Inn next door, so the Old Bell became our local, breakfast seeved till 8.30 so if you like a lie in go about 8 ish so as not to rush the staff. Full english a chioce of eggs, fried, scrambled or poached. Bacon, Sausages, Black Pudding, Hash Browns, Baked Beans. Also choose from cerels, breads, jam, fruit and yoghurts. Plenty of hot food to choose from for evening meals and lunch time. I had the mixed grill and was delicious. Theres also seasonal specials on the board. With friendly staff and great food you will have a lovely time here.

Had drinks with friends on a Sunday afternoon, staff were very nice and helpful, food looked amazing and the place was clean, tidy and very inviting. Will be going back for food in the near future!

We booked a table for 14.00pm and did not receive our meal until 15.15pm. A member of staff did not even come and ask if our meals were satisfactory. We also ordered some side orders but these did not arrive but they still tried to charge us for them. When we went to pay our bill a male member of staff was abrupt and rude he just said do you want to pay did not even say thank you or good bye turned back and carried on serving customers. I have been here on numerous occasions but after todays experience will not be coming back.

Great night out, good food and service. There was quite a lot of us all having different meals and we all got what we wanted and the wait wasn't too long. No doubt we will be back for another meet up in the not too distant future.

I have been staying at the Premier Inn next door all week for work. Food and staff here have been outstanding. Super attentive and foods been great. Would highly recommend this place. The Manager in particular has been awesome and super friendly.

5/11 Awful! Was told we don't take walk ins even though the pub was empty and after making a fuss had to sit in the bar area. Food arrived without yorkshire pudding and minus pig in blanket, barely any veg and the smallest of roast potatoes that would probably only amount to 1 before being cut up. The cauliflower cheese was the worse, served in a small ramekin (not the usual dish which you can share between 2) and had been under the grill for so long it was so dried up and tasted smokey. Gave it 2 stars because my husband liked his turkey.
