Old Ash Tree in Medway

Unpleasant! I arrived and was greeted buy a parking machine where you have to pay to use there car park. I then went to the bar the atmosphere wasn't all that great it was more a sports bar not a place for a pub lunch. I was waiting a good 15 minutes to be severed and it wasn't that busy. I got the meal deal 2 courses for £15.99 I ordered the beef roast and biscoff cheesecake. It came out pretty quickly to my surprise. The quality of the meal was shockingly bad for the price paid. The potatoes are from a packet, along with the vegetables, I managed to eat it as I was hungry. I then had to go back to the bar to ask for my dessert and paid another £4 for a small coke! The cheese cake came and was the worst dessert I have ever been given. It was covered in cheap strawberry sauce, The ice cream was all icey and wrong like it had been defrosted and frozen several times. The cheese cake must have been defrosted in the microwave because my first bite was warm then my second cold then a few more bites in was warm again, I couldn't finish it! I never feel the need to leave bad reviews but I think all in all with two small cokes I paid £24 and it's a total rip off. You definitely deserve better for your hard earned money go else where.

We called the Old Ash Tree at the last minute to see if they could accommodate a party of 11 after our original venue canceled our reservation without notice. They went above and beyond to make room for us, providing outstanding service with a warm smile. Nothing was too much trouble, and the welcoming atmosphere made us feel right at home. The food was cooked to perfection, and I couldn't rate this place highly enough. The steaks were spot on—I requested rare, and that’s exactly what I got, while a family member asked for medium and received a perfect medium. The triple chocolate brownie was out of this world—the best I’ve had in a very long time! And the hot honey and cheese chips are a must-try; the combination of sweet with a hint of spice was simply amazing. The Old Ash Tree truly deserves top marks for its exceptional food and service!

Accommodated a very large party at short notice Service was excellent so friendly and welcoming Food was amazingly nothing was to much bother for them even with my families funny requests I would recommend this pub all the time and will certainly be making my to go place

Didn't eat here.. but the beer was nice, toilets clean and they have a pool table (legends) and a few machines,. Proper pubs should always have a pool table, standard

Nearly a year since the new people took over, vast improvement in the atmosphere and especially the decor.

Had lunch here for the first time today... Very quiet, which was nice as catching up with friends. Was deciding what to have, lots of choice, mentioned the steak sandwich and the guy behind the bar said the steak is really good... Ordered it, he was not wrong, it's was delicious, cooked exactly how I like 👌 the rest of our table were really happy too. Well done guys, we will be back for sure!

Lovely little pub! Came late on a Sunday so the roast was lovely but not many options available. Luckily Oliver, grant and Brad/Brett (we couldn’t remember) took great care of us. Food was solid fair with plenty of meat for a roast which is rare.

We are down visiting family and we came here for tea. Excellent food, if I lived here I would be here a lot. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Pleasantly surprised! We popped in for a bite to eat after an eventful day at the park, and so glad we did. Hadn’t had a roast here before and will definitely be coming back. Thank you to Claire & Bradley for a brilliant service. If there was anything we’d have to change, would just be the roast potatoes, but that’s personal preference. We look forward to coming back 😊

lovely family and dog friendly pub, we had Sunday roast dinners all 10 of us, the meat was cooked perfect, the potatoes was lovely and fluffy and the stuffing was cooked perfect. the Olympics was playing throughout the pub, was great watching it especially as my youngest loves her sports. Bradley is a credit to your team his service was amazing. we carried on drinking after our roast dinners in the front outside seating areas where we had another tv to watch the sports, at this point we was all getting slightly merry as the atmosphere was great, the bar staff was very busy but still had time to make us feel really welcome. we had an absolutely amazing evening. thank you all and we will be coming again soon best wishes

I booked a table for 15 people, got sent a confirmation email and yet the day we're due to go I find out that because the staff member didn't take the deposit I offered it wasn't actually booked in. Obviously your staff need some training.

Came in for food today which was really nice. Was able to park for free by putting my details into a tablet located on the bar. Good atmosphere, Olympics on the tv and a few games of pool… will be back 🙂

Good food at great prices. Whilst the vegetables are always overcooked, for a chain pub you can't complain. The only downside was that they didn't know the two signature serves as advertised on their drinks menus, which should be taught to all staff, and got confrontational when I pulled them up on this, a real shame.

Very warm and welcoming, I was in the restaurant area with my dog, the pub and restaurant is dog friendly which is fantastic, I met lilly and Grant who said they recently took over the pub, they was very polite, it was my birthday and I was given a free soft drink as I don't drink alcohol which was a lovely gesture, the food was very nice, my husband had a mixed grill and for £12 is great value, I had the flatbread which was gorgeous. The whole place was clean and tidy amd the toilets was fab We will be back

After looking at website and menu, decided to give the place a go for Sunday lunch. Got a taxi there so we could both have a glass of wine with the roast beef we were anticipating. We arrived to be told they weren't doing a Sunday roast, yet still advertised on their website. Was told " we did one last week". Very disappointed by experience of visit. Thankfully we were dining alone, we usually go for a Sunday roast with friends visiting. Fortunately we went up the road to get lunch that was not only available but cheaper!

Went today with family for a roast for Father’s Day, this was our first time going under new management.. On arrival we got given a table that was seated on a level when I had booked needing wheelchair access, although this was easily resolved, then it went more downhill from here… although we made 3 separate payments it was all on the same table and made one after the over but two peoples food came out 40 mins after ordering only two other table occupied at this time then *25 MINUTES LATER* the next 2 meals came out then *10 MINUTES LATER* the last 3 meals came out, (which by at this point the first two people had already finished). When asking repeatedly about the other meals we were waiting for we were told we’ll have to wait and had no apology or understanding of our wait! The meals itself were warm not hot, one cauliflower was black and mouldy, roast potatoes were missing from two plates, once finished we asked for our desserts that we had paid for at start to come out after we finished meal to be told 2x over 20 minutes we’ll have to wait a while as there focusing bringing main meals out, so with that we decided to get our money back and go elsewhere for desserts which we received a far better attitude and service, safe to say we won’t be coming back anytime soon for a meal unfortunately

Stewart is by far the best manager that’s been at the Ash Tree and any pub I’ve visited. Such a nice chap, it’s what makes you come back in mine and my families opinion.

The customer service from Stuart is unmatched! Definitely what the old ash tree needed! Such a lovely guy and so accommodating! 5☆☆☆☆☆

2024 Update. Post Refurbishment. So much better than before, Food is qreat quality and great value for your money. Drinks seem average cost. But food and drink variety is less than before or as expected. Both indoors and outdoors looks nice and fresh. And I am sure it will be better as it gets warmer.

The old ash tree is a lovely welcoming pub, always great atmosphere and staff are lovely. I visit regularly with my friends and family and the food is great too. Great service overall from bar and kitchen staff. Little lily and Stewart always provide excellent service behind the bar and are always cheerful. Such a lovely warm welcoming place to visit

Very quiet when we visited. A few very young children running around, but everyone was friendly.

Went on a Thursday evening. Only two other couples at the tables. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive. The starter we had was perfect. However was disappointed with the mains. My husband ordered a rump steak and although the flavour was good unfortunately it was tough to eat. I had the Hunters Chicken. Again the flavour was there but the sauce was thick and congealed. Chips on both meals were good and the prices were good. As you have to pay for your food at the bar when you order it, it means that if you would like to order a desert or coffee after you have to go to the bar and order again and pay again. Overall disappointed.

Me and my husband came out with our little one for a meal here today, the pub was clean, which is what I first noticed walking in. The staff were lovely and very attentive to us. Greeted us with a smile which was lovely to see. I ordered the katsu chicken, which was amazing!! My husband had the rump steak which he said melted in his mouth and cooked perfectly! We all shared a pudding also and they even bought out a tiny spoon for the baby to have some of her own ice cream! Hands down will be returning and will be telling everyone about our experience here today. Thank you x

had a wonderful family dinner, food was very tasty and well presented, really good atmosphere and sports was showing which was a bonus, the pub looked really fresh and the staff was very helpful and friendly, we had kids with us and they all got colouring books and crayons which was lovely, kept them entertained, we will be returning

1 star I think is almost generous, what a shambles. Obviously understaffed, the wait at the bar was unbearably long on more than one visit to it.... both girls serving were pleasant enough, but didn't really have a clue what to do. The wait for food was also long, I assume the kitchen was understaffed too. Our orders finally arrived correctly, although missing things on the dishes themselves, at least they were the correct meals, unlike other tables in the pub. We ordered sharing small plates, mostly finger food, and after asking for napkins we were not given any so still had sticky fingers, but after the 15 minute wait to order and the 45 minute wait for food to arrive we had really given up! The pub was not busy, had 2 Christmas party tables and a couple of others. We just thought we'd check it out after the new refurb, next time we'll go somewhere else.

Had a roast dinner here last Sunday, it was so beautiful. The turkey was thick and so juicy, the beef was lovely, potatoes so fluffy. Honestly so good. I came here last year for a roast and it was subpar so they have really stepped up their game, so good!

Had an amazing night for our bike clubs Christmas Dinner. They went all out for us. Staff were so polite, great service. Didn't have to wait hours, everything timed perfect and very good with my fussy daughter and her meal. Also had 2 birthday cakes to bring out for us on top all that. They all did really well. Thank you all so much. X

Went for the festive fayre Food was prompt and hot the steak was lovely and soft cooked to spec all the trimmings were tasty highly recommend

What a wonderful place. Was welcomed to the pub with open arms from bar staff, Lilly, Gemma and Sam who made an amazing atmosphere around the room. Cook, Aarron produced the perfect steak. One of the best meals I’ve ever had at a pub/restaurant. Definitely will return x

Brought my daughter to celebrate and could not believe the amazing service we had. The chef,Aaron, personally spoke to us and produced a meal fit for royalty! Since my last visit to the ash tree the difference in quality and service is night and day. I was blown away by my Sunday dinner, everything was cooked to perfection. I hope that when I return next weekend that it's just as good. Thank you

Booked a table two weeks before we arrived for five people as it was my daughter's birthday to be put on a table and bench I asked the lady is there any where else we can sit as I have a bad back and need a proper chair to sit on and got told no very rudely buy a young girl so we had to sit there. Then to be given a sports food menu that was only selling a few starters and mains was burgers, pizza, then to be told we have roast dinners but we're missing two items from the roast. All of my group was not happy and walked out. It use to be a good pub but gone down hill definitely will not be returning

From start to finish we had a terrible visit. We looked online before to check there was vegan options available and checked while making the booking. On arrival we found out there was only one vegan starter and no vegan mains. My friend asked about this and was told there was none. They did later say they could do her vegan food off of the main menu. I ordered my drink and got given the wrong one. We then waited an hour for the food to come. And the vegan option came around 5 minutes after all of the other food was served. During eating my dinner I found a hair. When asked how the food was I notified the server. She brought over the manager who said I could have a refund, a free drink or a free dessert. She said she could take the food away and make me another one. But having been in the pub for well over an hour i declined. She said when I was finished to come up to the bar and notify the server of my refund. When I did this the manager came over and said as I ate some of the food she was not willing to give me the refund I had previously been offered. She ended up giving me £3.40 back. Also my friend had no potatoes with her meal (which the menu stated came with her roast) so had to ask for them to be brought up. And when she asked for more gravy on her dry meal they told her it would cost her extra. Overall terrible service and mediocre food containing hairs.

Waited 1 and half hours for food when it eventually arrived it was disgusting dried up tiny portion missing potatoes stuffing. Tasted awful unable to eat it. Looked like cold leftovers heated up in microwave. Informed waitress of this who was dealing with another table strongly complaining also. We left in disgust.!! The worst meals we have ever had.

Great for sports, large tvs in the pub, food was very good value and tasted amazing, we was served by gemma who was lovely, its a very nice pub, also dog friendly which is a bonus, thank you and we will be back

Used to come every Sunday but has gone downhill. Have a new chef and can't even cook veg. Spent half hour waiting for a roast and been waiting for my crumble now for 50 minutes and counting...Will probably ask for a refund and leave. Definitely won't be returning.

Came at 2.30 rung in advance to check we could bring our dog. Was really helpful on phone when we arrived the regulars in the pub was all friendly and made fuss of our dog. Barmaid was exceptional. Both had mixed grill chef came out to check on us he also was really polite and cared how we was enjoying our meals. Food was best mixed grill we’ve had anywhere. Value quality and especially the staff made this a 5 out of 5 will be back and would recommend it’s hard to find somewhere so welcoming specially when have a dog. Thank you old ash tree amazing

Haven't dined here yet as we came late BUT, love, love the refurb and atmosphere...and Laura who served us...thank you...most welcoming. We will DEFINITELY be back.

Decided to go here with family for dinner, beforehand we called to check that they were still doing food. We got there and decided to order food. The app wasn’t working so went up to the bar to order. We were told that because they had a large group (about 8 people) they weren’t serving food to other customers and we had to wait for an hour. I found this absolutely appalling and struggle to see how we had to wait because they had what they considered a large group for a restaurant/bar? What made it worse was that we had no apology and with explaining to them that my Father was disabled and has diabetes so could not wait that long for food, they couldn’t care. We wasted £6 on parking which used to be free too! They then proceeding to ask if we were ordering drinks… with that we left. Never going back there again!

Busy pub, with a good range of beers, lagers, ciders, wines and spirits. This is a great local for those who love sports, playing pool and the odd live band at the weekend

Slow service over 10mins to get a drink

Great selection of ales, bottled lagers, menu is very reasonably priced, also have a pizza menu. Draught beer amd lager very affordable, highly recommended

We are visiting from Canada, we stopped in, we had the best time, it was karaoke night, the hosts were really funny and the landlord was very friendly and accommodating. The regulars were very friendly and warm. I would highly recommend this place.

Omg what an awful meal .I had the chicken and bacon salad .tomatoes old and bruised .lettuce brown and old looked like it had been cut up for a few days .my husband had the meat pie slice with peas and mash .meat was black...

Good cheap food , wide selection of drinks and lovely welcoming friendly staff. Clean and tidy in all areas including outside and toilets. Pool table, darts and plenty of gaming machines.

We went as a family of 7. The pub was really nice, there was a good selection of food choices and at real good prices. The staff are friendly. Was a lovely afternoon,we will be visiting again.

This is my local pub and Lyndsay and her staff are alway welcoming, helpful and go above and beyond to help with anything while you are there to give you the best possible visit. The food is always hot sometimes there maybe a wait ie Sundays or special occasions such as fathers day due to demand. But you should expect that and they are always trying their best to serve you as quick as possible. As a pub there are family friendly and everyone is always made welcome not only by staff but by people like us that are regulars.

First time here food was fantastic

Came for father's day dinner the service was awful we waited 40min for food to be told after 40min it had just started cooking not being told it was a long wait, when mine arrived it was luke warm with soggy chips, I had a very hungry and upset 12 year old waiting ages for her dinner, wasnt even busy which is no excuse. food, service and communication we're so bad left feeling hungry and annoyed and we've all ended up with bad belly off work and school for all of us

Just had a turkey roast dinner. Beautiful. Lovely meat good portion size and 2 for 11.99. Can't go wrong. If your local and want a nice roast come here. You won't be disappointed .... 🙂🙂🙂

Approached pub and was told quite abruptly it wasn’t open, despite the fact it states on Google it was supposed to be open for about another four hours! And this was by someone drinking outside (????) maybe it’s cos I’m not from here but it gave very ‘local pub for local people’ vibes and I didn’t feel welcome.

Spent the afternoon watching the FA Cup yesterday and was able to take my dog in. Bowl of water provided in a proper dog bowl, made feel realy welcome, several dogs in there..all on leads, all very civilised, everyone very accepting of dogs. Food and beer well priced and staff friendly and helpful. Big tick for me being dog friendly.
