The Old Ash Tree pub in Kent is an absolute gem! From the cozy atmosphere to the delicious food and drinks, this pub has everything you could want for a perfect evening out. The owner, grant, is truly exceptional. He goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest has a fantastic experience, whether it's recommending a new beer to try or making sure your meal is cooked to perfection. His passion for the pub is infectious and adds an extra layer of warmth to an already charming establishment. I can't recommend the Old Ash Tree enough - a must visit for anyone in the area!

Very quiet when we visited. A few very young children running around, but everyone was friendly.

Went on a Thursday evening. Only two other couples at the tables. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive. The starter we had was perfect. However was disappointed with the mains. My husband ordered a rump steak and although the flavour was good unfortunately it was tough to eat. I had the Hunters Chicken. Again the flavour was there but the sauce was thick and congealed. Chips on both meals were good and the prices were good. As you have to pay for your food at the bar when you order it, it means that if you would like to order a desert or coffee after you have to go to the bar and order again and pay again. Overall disappointed.

Very busy when we arrived, got our table straight away, food was quick and very nice for the price, I would recommend the mixed grill, huge meal and good value. The staff were busy but very helpful and friendly, they was great with our kids, special mention to Tanya who was lovely. Overall would come back again as we had a fab time

went for a meal this evening with some family and friends, pub was very clean and well presented, there was 10 of us in total and the staff was very accommodating as we are not the easiest bunch. the food was amazing and very good value for money, we will be returning, special mention to all the staff who was working very hard and made our visit rather special

Came into the pub for a family meal. I’ve got to say the pub was clean, the bar staff were really welcoming and they interacted with our little 1s in the most lovely way! Me and my husband both had the mixed grills, which were an amazing price, the steak was cooked perfect! The chicken was probably the best chicken breast I’ve ever tasted! Obviously made room for some deserts which we both shared the sundae, i probably had the most 🤪 All in all we had the best time, hands down will be returning on a weekly basis with the family.

had a wonderful family dinner, food was very tasty and well presented, really good atmosphere and sports was showing which was a bonus, the pub looked really fresh and the staff was very helpful and friendly, we had kids with us and they all got colouring books and crayons which was lovely, kept them entertained, we will be returning

Me and my husband came out with our little one for a meal here today, the pub was clean, which is what I first noticed walking in. The staff were lovely and very attentive to us. Greeted us with a smile which was lovely to see. I ordered the katsu chicken, which was amazing!! My husband had the rump steak which he said melted in his mouth and cooked perfectly! We all shared a pudding also and they even bought out a tiny spoon for the baby to have some of her own ice cream! Hands down will be returning and will be telling everyone about our experience here today. Thank you x

We booked a table for six and nearly everything we wanted they had run out of

I visited the pub on 14th December with a group from work for our Christmas lunch, we had pre-ordered at their request. On arrival we went to the bar to order drinks, the festive drinks that were on the menu and ordered were not available, the bar staff was not aware of what the drink was in the first place before we showed her the menu. Another of our party ordered gin and lemonade to find that the lemonade syrup was off, when questioning this with the only bar staff that was serving, she was met with resistance that the drink was correct and there was no problem with it and that we had in fact got our drinks mixed up. Eventually the bar staff realised that the lemonade was not in fact as it should be but said there was nothing that they could do and couldn't then make the drink that was ordered as there was nothing that she could do about the lemonade. The bar service was unfortunately extremely slow, although it was not very busy overall. Onto the food order; we had pre ordered the food as requested by them due to ordering from the festive menu. One of our party was not ordering from the festive menu but still sent the order across at the same time. We had received confirmation that the pre order had been received. The starters were brought out, and the person who did not order from the festive menu did not receive their order until we made the staff aware that we were still waiting in another dish. The starters were adequate enough. It took quite some time before our plates were cleared and our main courses started to come out. 3 of our party had order the Christmas Dinner which came out first, the rest of our parties order was messed up quite a bit. There was an order of the festive beyond burger, which on the menu on your website it says that it comes in a bun with chips, when bought out it was a burger less bun with salad! We checked this and was told that is just how it comes. I then checked online for the menu and we were in fact right. I took the plate to the kitchen myself and spoke to who I presume was the chef. She said that it didn't come with a bun or chips, I showed her the menu on the website and she then showed the menu that she was working off, which did indeed say without bun or chips! Not sure why there should or would be 2 versions of your menu. I explained to the kitchen staff what meals we were still waiting for and they seemed to understand that. The last 3 meals came out, one of which was not off the festive menu and was the hot honey halloumi flat bread, this was bought out as hot honey chicken flat bread. I immediately said that this was not what was ordered and that it wad the halloumi flat bread. She briefly went away only to come straight back to tell me that that was in fact how it came. I showed her the menu from the tables and that there is also a halloumi flatbread without chicken which is what was ordered due to being vegetarian. The further 3 meals were actually received quite a bit of time after the initial Christmas dinners had been received, so we were not even eating as a group. Before our desserts were bought to the table, we suggested to the staff member that it may be a good idea to take our orders again so that they were correct due to the many issues that had already taken place. She took down each of our orders, which had also been previously pre ordered. The deserts began to come out, they bought 2 cheesecakes and insisted that there were 2 ordered, when in fact there had not been, only 1 was ordered. One of our party had ordered Christmas pudding but asked for it with ice cream instead of custard, this was said in the pre order and the order at the table, it was bought out with custard. We made the staff aware that this was not ordered. Each time we made staff aware that the order was incorrect, there was a lot of resistance and them pushing the fact that we were the ones that were wrong or had ordered wrong when in fact it was quite clearly the other way round and the fact that we had not only pre ordered but also gone over our orders with staff as well. As we finished our meal, the chef then made an appearance at our table with a bit of paper with orders written on. She was very abrupt and questioning us on our orders. When we asked is everything is OK, she said no because she has had to re make the Christmas pudding 3 times over! We did make her aware that this was not our issue but with the staff that had taken the order but she was very disgruntled and making it out as though it had been our fault. We found it very confronting that she had even come over to us in that manner and up until this point we had considered staying for further drinks but this interaction made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We made our way to the bar to pay and expressed our concerns, and the issues that we had while we had been there. We asked if we could speak to the manager about what had happened and she said that she would ask but that she knew other people had already asked to speak to her about similar issues and she hadn't been available as she was busy in the kitchen. The manager didn't appear in the whole time we were there. The manager could not come and speak to us as she was too busy. The above was emailed to the pub on 15th December, they still haven't replied. I did receive a response on messenger on 21st to say that they will get back to me by email once they have investigated it. I have followed up with 2 more messages which they are now not responding to. I have also commented on their Facebook page to ask when they will respond to my complaint, I have now been blocked!! It's really unfortunate that they couldn't even just apologise for this, goes to show that they know that they are in the wrong. I have now contacted Greene King about this.

Omg , How to be made to feel like an inconvenience. Arrive for a pre booked table 1.5 hours before kitchen closes. Order drinks asked about menu. Took a seat then to be spoken to from the bar.... "You eating, if you want to eat hurry up as I'm closing the kitchen , been here since 11 and got prep to do for tomorrow, best order quick" Wtf is that about. We are extremely sorry we cause you hardship and distress. We didn't eat as we couldn't guarantee we'd be treated in a decent manner or the food would be of any standard, the feeling was it would be rushed and chucked on the plate . Thank you spoiled it. I shall avoid However seeing you all enjoying the banter with your friends was laughable.

Poor service waited hour and half for food won't be back

1 star I think is almost generous, what a shambles. Obviously understaffed, the wait at the bar was unbearably long on more than one visit to it.... both girls serving were pleasant enough, but didn't really have a clue what to do. The wait for food was also long, I assume the kitchen was understaffed too. Our orders finally arrived correctly, although missing things on the dishes themselves, at least they were the correct meals, unlike other tables in the pub. We ordered sharing small plates, mostly finger food, and after asking for napkins we were not given any so still had sticky fingers, but after the 15 minute wait to order and the 45 minute wait for food to arrive we had really given up! The pub was not busy, had 2 Christmas party tables and a couple of others. We just thought we'd check it out after the new refurb, next time we'll go somewhere else.

Had an amazing night for our bike clubs Christmas Dinner. They went all out for us. Staff were so polite, great service. Didn't have to wait hours, everything timed perfect and very good with my fussy daughter and her meal. Also had 2 birthday cakes to bring out for us on top all that. They all did really well. Thank you all so much. X

Had a roast dinner here last Sunday, it was so beautiful. The turkey was thick and so juicy, the beef was lovely, potatoes so fluffy. Honestly so good. I came here last year for a roast and it was subpar so they have really stepped up their game, so good!

Went for the festive fayre Food was prompt and hot the steak was lovely and soft cooked to spec all the trimmings were tasty highly recommend

Brought my daughter to celebrate and could not believe the amazing service we had. The chef,Aaron, personally spoke to us and produced a meal fit for royalty! Lily and Gemma made us feel welcome and special! Nothing was too much! Congrats to Lily a bold takeover that proved just what the pub needed! Thank you guys we ll be back xx

What a wonderful place. Was welcomed to the pub with open arms from bar staff, Lilly, Gemma and Sam who made an amazing atmosphere around the room. Cook, Aarron produced the perfect steak. One of the best meals I’ve ever had at a pub/restaurant. Definitely will return x

Since my last visit to the ash tree the difference in quality and service is night and day. I was blown away by my Sunday dinner, everything was cooked to perfection. I hope that when I return next weekend that it's just as good. Thank you

Booked a table two weeks before we arrived for five people as it was my daughter's birthday to be put on a table and bench I asked the lady is there any where else we can sit as I have a bad back and need a proper chair to sit on and got told no very rudely buy a young girl so we had to sit there. Then to be given a sports food menu that was only selling a few starters and mains was burgers, pizza, then to be told we have roast dinners but we're missing two items from the roast. All of my group was not happy and walked out. It use to be a good pub but gone down hill definitely will not be returning

We hadn’t been to The Old Ash Tree for a long time but thought we’d give it a go following their makeover for a quick lunch with our daughter today. What else is there to say apart from it was as clean as a pin, the food was fab and the people were lovely. We look forward to coming back soon.

From start to finish we had a terrible visit. We looked online before to check there was vegan options available and checked while making the booking. On arrival we found out there was only one vegan starter and no vegan mains. My friend asked about this and was told there was none. They did later say they could do her vegan food off of the main menu. I ordered my drink and got given the wrong one. We then waited an hour for the food to come. And the vegan option came around 5 minutes after all of the other food was served. During eating my dinner I found a hair. When asked how the food was I notified the server. She brought over the manager who said I could have a refund, a free drink or a free dessert. She said she could take the food away and make me another one. But having been in the pub for well over an hour i declined. She said when I was finished to come up to the bar and notify the server of my refund. When I did this the manager came over and said as I ate some of the food she was not willing to give me the refund I had previously been offered. She ended up giving me £3.40 back. Also my friend had no potatoes with her meal (which the menu stated came with her roast) so had to ask for them to be brought up. And when she asked for more gravy on her dry meal they told her it would cost her extra. Overall terrible service and mediocre food containing hairs.

Waited 1 and half hours for food when it eventually arrived it was disgusting dried up tiny portion missing potatoes stuffing. Tasted awful unable to eat it. Looked like cold leftovers heated up in microwave. Informed waitress of this who was dealing with another table strongly complaining also. We left in disgust.!! The worst meals we have ever had.

Had a great meal with the family on my birthday. The food was excellent. My husband said it was the best pie he had ever had. Our salad was very fresh and plentiful. The staff were exceptionally friendly too. Nice atmosphere for pub and would definitely return.

Used to come every Sunday but has gone downhill. Have a new chef and can't even cook veg. Spent half hour waiting for a roast and been waiting for my crumble now for 50 minutes and counting...Will probably ask for a refund and leave. Definitely won't be returning.

Came at 2.30 rung in advance to check we could bring our dog. Was really helpful on phone when we arrived the regulars in the pub was all friendly and made fuss of our dog. Barmaid was exceptional. Both had mixed grill chef came out to check on us he also was really polite and cared how we was enjoying our meals. Food was best mixed grill we’ve had anywhere. Value quality and especially the staff made this a 5 out of 5 will be back and would recommend it’s hard to find somewhere so welcoming specially when have a dog. Thank you old ash tree amazing

Decided to go here with family for dinner, beforehand we called to check that they were still doing food. We got there and decided to order food. The app wasn’t working so went up to the bar to order. We were told that because they had a large group (about 8 people) they weren’t serving food to other customers and we had to wait for an hour. I found this absolutely appalling and struggle to see how we had to wait because they had what they considered a large group for a restaurant/bar? What made it worse was that we had no apology and with explaining to them that my Father was disabled and has diabetes so could not wait that long for food, they couldn’t care. We wasted £6 on parking which used to be free too! They then proceeding to ask if we were ordering drinks… with that we left. Never going back there again!

Great food and service. Special mention to Tanya who was only on her 2nd day but provided us with a brilliant level of customer service. Keep it up :)

Busy pub, with a good range of beers, lagers, ciders, wines and spirits. This is a great local for those who love sports, playing pool and the odd live band at the weekend

Great selection of ales, bottled lagers, menu is very reasonably priced, also have a pizza menu. Draught beer amd lager very affordable, highly recommended

We are visiting from Canada, we stopped in, we had the best time, it was karaoke night, the hosts were really funny and the landlord was very friendly and accommodating. The regulars were very friendly and warm. I would highly recommend this place.

Omg what an awful meal .I had the chicken and bacon salad .tomatoes old and bruised .lettuce brown and old looked like it had been cut up for a few days .my husband had the meat pie slice with peas and mash .meat was black...

Good cheap food , wide selection of drinks and lovely welcoming friendly staff. Clean and tidy in all areas including outside and toilets. Pool table, darts and plenty of gaming machines.

We went as a family of 7. The pub was really nice, there was a good selection of food choices and at real good prices. The staff are friendly. Was a lovely afternoon,we will be visiting again.

This is my local pub and Lyndsay and her staff are alway welcoming, helpful and go above and beyond to help with anything while you are there to give you the best possible visit. The food is always hot sometimes there maybe a wait ie Sundays or special occasions such as fathers day due to demand. But you should expect that and they are always trying their best to serve you as quick as possible. As a pub there are family friendly and everyone is always made welcome not only by staff but by people like us that are regulars.

First time here food was fantastic

Came for father's day dinner the service was awful we waited 40min for food to be told after 40min it had just started cooking not being told it was a long wait, when mine arrived it was luke warm with soggy chips, I had a very hungry and upset 12 year old waiting ages for her dinner, wasnt even busy which is no excuse. food, service and communication we're so bad left feeling hungry and annoyed and we've all ended up with bad belly off work and school for all of us

Spent the afternoon watching the FA Cup yesterday and was able to take my dog in. Bowl of water provided in a proper dog bowl, made feel realy welcome, several dogs in there..all on leads, all very civilised, everyone very accepting of dogs. Food and beer well priced and staff friendly and helpful. Big tick for me being dog friendly.

Approached pub and was told quite abruptly it wasn’t open, despite the fact it states on Google it was supposed to be open for about another four hours! And this was by someone drinking outside (????) maybe it’s cos I’m not from here but it gave very ‘local pub for local people’ vibes and I didn’t feel welcome.

Just had a turkey roast dinner. Beautiful. Lovely meat good portion size and 2 for 11.99. Can't go wrong. If your local and want a nice roast come here. You won't be disappointed .... 🙂🙂🙂

Popped in here on a Sunday evening to have dinner with some family, Ordered a bunch of food and drinks, food arrived with stuff missing from the order. The toilets are absolutely disgusting, the smell was awful, floor covered is urine, also no soap to wash your hands with.

Good food. Little understaffed and no one seemed to be in a hurry. Regulars were definitely served first which i get but there was nochirry in serving those waiting... However it was good food and came in good time.

We went to the Ash tree pub for lunch Louise was serving and she asked if we had a senior card as we were ordering the senior meals, We didn’t know about the card if you collect the stamps each time you go you get...

The pub manager, Lyndsay was excellent! Arranging meals for 16 people, and nothing was too much trouble for her. She was kind, patient and welcoming. We all had a great night and that was down to her and her staff. Would definitely book there again.

Usually roast is okay… but this week was dry deep fried roasties and dry beef with reheated frozen veggies. I think even the stuffing was deep fried. Not what we’ve come to expect, usually it’s decent.

This was our first visit here. Being a Saturday it was very busy but the staff were really helpful and found us a table for 6. As it was so busy we did have to wait for around an hour for our food but was well worth the wait as the food was really good. Will definitely go again and highly recommend.

Don't go if you want to be waiting for your food 1h. We waited so long that we went up to the counter to ask if there was some problem in the kitchen. The answer was that we were told there is a waiting time and yes we were told, but the waiting time was supposed to be 40 minutes not 1h. After finally getting our food we ate and left the pub. Later we realised we weren't served our apple pie slices that we paid for. Very poor service.

Visited on a Saturday for a bite to eat and to watch the football. Really welcoming, fantastic with the kids. Had some sharers for food, good value for money. Good selection of beers. TV screens everywhere for the football and staff really accomadating with everything...

From the outside it is one of those places you would probably not go in presented with the car park and not a lot of outside space, that's just down to its location, however when you do go in its huge, it was busy as it was Christmas, they had live music, and it took a while to get served but we didn't mind as it meant we could enjoy the atmosphere, something a lot of pubs lack nowadays. We only stopped for a couple of drinks but were glad we went in now.

Lived in Chatham since 1960 and have never been to the old ash tree, thought we would give it a try, monies tight for most and the selection and cost was amazing.

Very good pub. Come here a lot for poker and entertainment! Really good deals on shots and food is amazing too. Letia, Lyndsay, Tara, Lou and Eden were working and all very happy to be serving us.

Pub was okay, very friendly but received a parking ticket although we parked in a disabled bay and displayed a disabled badge??

Went yesterday and again today. Absolutely bargain senior 3 course lunch. Hot, tasty and good service what else can you ask for. Will definitely be back 🤩
