Oishii izakaya in York

Nipped in hoping to take home some sushi for lunch as a treat for my day off. The waiter was so polite and attentive I ended up sitting down to look at the menu and opted to eat in for prawn soba noodles. The food was absolutely delicious and more than plentiful. I couldn't finish it in one sitting but the waiter was happy to box it up for me so I have a lovely lunch for work tomorrow too and all for £12!! The food, value and ambience was great but what really made my visit was the lovely waiter who couldn't do enough for his diners. I'll be back :)

We went there for lunch. We had their boxes and had miso soup, sushi, beef teriyaki and salmon teriyaki. It was delicious. Will definitely be going again and again. Will take photos next time.

Often looks empty but thought to give it a try. Saw the 3 reviews here. Extremely disappointing bland Japanese food. No atmosphere. Very expensive for what is offered. There are many good Japanese restaurants in York. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Recently opened and woefully under-reviewed. I popped here after visiting the cinema and although it was Saturday evening, there weren't many people in. I do hope this changes as this was seriously some of the best food I have had for ages. I got an Asahi beer, takoyaki to start, then beef yaki udon for main. The service was swift, and the food was excellent. I couldn't believe how tasty the yaki udon was - so savoury and full of flavour. The takoyaki was garnished with seaweed that made it even nicer than expected. And the prices are incredibly reasonable for Japanese food in York. I did notice a lot of takeaway business so I hope word gets out about this little gem. I will be back.

Enjoyed the 3 course fixed lunch menu. Good choice on the menu and includes a drink. Service was great and food quality was excellent
