Booked a groupon for afternoon tea for my daughter’s birthday. The deal was for 4 people. My 2 daughters obviously weren’t going have tea or coffee and when the waitress declined a hot chocolate (which we had no issues with), she offered them a glass of water instead. Seeing as we’d paid for 4 people I think a glass of squash for them wasn’t really too much to offer. There were no sausage rolls/cheese wellingtons as stated on menu, so we were given lots and lots of finger sandwiches. Unfortunately they were all tasteless. We’d had nothing since breakfast and still they tasted so bland. The scones were so soft they were falling to pieces as we spread jam on them. The cakes weren’t at all inspiring. The macaroon was the only thing that was average. The room itself was so hot and made the meal even more uncomfortable. A thoroughly disappointing experience. I’m glad we booked a groupon for it but still found it a waste of money. A shame really as I was planning to return for the Sunday roast deal. The location is breathtaking but completely ruined by the lack of quality of the food.

Lovely staff at Afternoon tea but perhaps not enough to serve all, adequately. Was a Saturday though so maybe busier than usual. Lovely setting, clean dining area, well set out and petty decor. We enjoyed a walk in the grounds before attending the A/tea. The Afternoon teas sandwiches need salt/pepper and just more flavour and intrigue, we found them too basic and uninteresting, and the bread was stale. One was egg mayo but tasted more like salad cream, one ham and one tuna. Scones, jam and cream were nice. Other cakes wer middle of the rd if a bit sub par. I wouldn't go again for the tea but would for the walk.

Only went for lunch with a wowcher voucher. Staff in the restaurant very welcoming and efficient. Menu very limited. 3 starters, 3 main and 3 desserts. The tarragon sauce on the chicken was so lovely, although the chicken was a little over cooked. We also waited a while for it. The chocolate dessert was also really lovely. On the whole very good value for money.

There aren’t many restaurants as aesthetically pleasing as here, it really is beautiful. Every member of staff was pleasant and friendly and the food was delicious; what’s not to love! The butternut squash gnocchi with crispy sage was amazing and the Rib-eye steak was apparently equally lovely. Surprisingly reasonable too, the prices were similar to our local pub.

I took my mother for afternoon tea at Shrigley hall today Sept 30th. I ordered two glasses of champagne. We were refused unless we purchased the bottle for £70. I was driving so this would have been inappropriate. We were offered Prosecco which wasn't what we really wanted. So as not to embarrass my mother I didn't make a fuss. Really so disappointing! I expected quite a different experience. We wouldn't choose Shrigley hall again.

This afternoon, tea was very underwhelming. We were greeted at reception and lead through to the bar area where we were told someone would help us. when the girls had finished serving, they told us we were in the wrong place and directed through to the restaurant. We were seated and asked? tea? or coffee? The tea came, and later the food arrived we were not spoken to again, no "everything OK can we get you more tea " nothing. The example menu says 4 choices of sandwiches 4 choices of dessert. We got cheap ham, cheese, and pickle, and we thought potted beef.We got brownie and sponge cake, which were dry. There was no staff about to query anything. A disappointing afternoon out good job my company wasn't.

Very disappointed with our afternoon tea.We booked our tea for 3pm arrived early so had a drink. We sat down at a very dirty table so we moved to another table after the table was cleaned. However looking around the window sills and seat stretchers were also very dirty. The afternoon tea arrived 30 minutes late and wasn't offered tea or coffee. We go out for afternoon tea at least once a month and this is the worse place we have been to.

Joined my parents for their birthday afternoon tea. The hotel looks tired. The afternoon tea was poor with stale sandwiches and underwhelming cakes. Other tables had also left their offerings. My wife commented that the sandwiches we bought from Tesco Extra earlier were much better.

Possible the worst meal I have ever eaten and the worst service. Typical stuff you get at a bad quality mass banquet not a supposed a la carte meal. The staff looked like they wanted to throw themselves off a bridge they must be so overworked, underpaid. The service was absolutely terrible. It’s a shame as we had such a lovely day at the spa which felt like a real treat and then it was downhill from there really. 2.5 hours it took to have 2 courses. We had to ask for things several times before we go then.

We booked to go to Shrigley Hall Hotel, as a luxury, for Christmas, as we have both worked very hard, so thought it was a nice treat for us all to spend quality time together as a Family and not have to cook or clean. Well we booked in on Christmas Eve & went for a drink at the bar, which took my husband 30 minutes to get what he ordered. The girl behind the bar, had obviously never worked behind a bar before and then started serving another man, to be told she was serving the wrong man. 25/12, we got food charged to the drinks bill, which was already paid for at the time of booking! So we had to get this taken off the bill. 26/12, we had an 8:30pm reservation for our dinner, we ordered the food, within 5 minutes we received two lots of desserts from two different waiters and hadn’t even eaten our starters by this time, then had to wait until 9:45, where the staff were stood around chatting and laughing, so my husband put a complaint in with the restaurant manager, to find out where are food was, by which time we went passed food, and left most of it, so the manager gave us the drinks that we ordered, complimentary, we didn’t even have are desserts in the end. 27/12, we left Shrigley Hall for home and the hotel decided to charge us for the complimentary drinks, that were supposed to be for the terrible service we received. The customer service in this hotel is terrible and would NOT stay here again or advise anyone else to do so. I am very disappointed with the service we received, as this cost my husband and I a lot of money and this service was really not acceptable and dealing with incompetent staff that haven’t got a clue how to deal with customers!

Went for afternoon tea with friends for a treat. Initially the service was great and they delivered the afternoon tea quite quickly. The finger sandwiches were as basic as you could get; ham, plain tuna and cheese & pickle. Seriously I couldn’t quite believe it, the bread was cheap and the fillings reminiscent of a child’s birthday party. The scone was nice, small but tasty but we were expected to share a small individual pot of jam between us. Cakes were again basic, 2 small pieces of cake and a macaron filled with lemon curd. Tea pots arrived half full. Service pretty much stopped once we had our cake plates delivered and we were only attended to when we sought someone out. I wouldn’t never return to Shrigley Hall. This was my first and last visit. I would have had a better quality afternoon tea from a Tesco cafe.

Went to the spooky afternoon tea with a 3 & 6 year old. The kids loved it and their food and hot chocolate was great. The adult afternoon tea which was £20/head was another story. The sandwiches were shocking. I have had some lovely afternoon teas but this was dreadful, so disappointing. There were 3 finger size of what were supposed to be prawn sandwiches. More like the tiniest shrimps ever and hardly any of them. The other sandwiches were I presume cream cheese and cucumber but the cucumber was literally wafer thin and no cream cheese. To charge £20 for this with an ordinary cup of coffee is daylight robbery. We had already had to wait about 20 minutes and had to ask for drinks then a party came in about 50 minutes after us, they got their drinks straight away and were served their food before us which we had to chase up with a waitress. The cakes were nice albeit very small.

After looking forward to a lovely meal during our getaway, we were left disappointed to be served calamari which was still raw and frozen. There was no apology, we waited 30 minutes to receive our drinks and the customer service left little to be desired - long waits, forgotten food and it appears clear that the waiting staff have little to no training. There was £2 taken off from the calamari as a gesture of goodwill… ridiculous and will never be visiting again.

We called in for an afternoon cream tea, which was a Christmas gift from our son. We found it very underwhelming, scones and cakes seemed quite stale. The Tea pot as greasy with finger prints all over. I went to the Gents and found them disgraceful , not clean with the bins overflowing and smelt of urine. Not a good experience for what was a prestigious venue.

Since our last visit in August there has been considerable improvement in the restaurant. The hotel has reverted to full waiter service, the food was served on better china, was well presented, very tasty and piping hot, the latter having been a problem previously. The young staff were all very pleasant, attentive and helpful with my wife who was in a wheelchair. There was absolutely nothing to complain about in the restaurant although the disabled parking outside could be improved and I was assured the management will take this under consideration

What a disappointment !!! I only wish the service at this hotel matched the first impressions upon arriving. We weren't greeted on arrival and had to wait for staff to finish their conversations before asking if the could help us. The afternoon tea was uninspiring and we asked for no salmon so just ended up with coronation chicken and cream cheese sandwiches, sausage rolls and what I think was salmon mouse on a Crostini. We got one small scone each and cakes that didn't match the menu advertised online. I was really looking forward to battenberg. The advertised afternoon tea had a glass of gin included that was nowhere to be seen and we had to ask to have milk brought to the table as it wasn't brought with the tea. All in all the worst afternoon tea experience we've had. No one explained what was on the tray, no one asked if we were okay or asked if we wanted anything else. In the end we ended up getting up and leaving and this wasn't even acknowledged. I hate complaining but was so frustrated that we'd driven an hour to get there I pulled a Manager in the lobby who took my details. I was told the Restaurant Manager would be in touch on Monday. I chased this contact up on Tuesday and still no reply so quite clearly I'm not getting a response. Really disappointed with Shrigley Hall's approach to customer service.

My husband and I visited today for Sunday lunch, we were really looking forward to this and were left totally disappointed . The menu was quite poor however I ordered pate and my husband order prawn and apple salad. I must say the pate was just tasteless and was accompanied by one piece of crusty bread. We ordered roast beef with gravy on the side. After over 40 minutes we still hadn’t been served and asked the waitress if she could chase this up. She came back to say that there was only one chef and he had two big tables to take care of first but wouldn’t be too long. There was only 28 people in the restaurant altogether and the two tables had eight people on each table. Our meal came after another 10 minutes with gravy all over the meat. I mentioned this to the waitress but carried on. The beef and Yorkshire pudding was so tough it was inedible . The manager came over to us and apologised when he saw our meals and obviously took them off the bill. The service was so slow and we will not be returning ever again.

I'd booked a three course dinner for 4, with wine, I thought the Groupon deal of £55 fantastic value as I've dined there a lot, stayed overnight on numerous occasions and played golf there lots of times, I actually really like the place, so i invited my sister and made a four up. The starters were all fine and desserts very nice, but three of us had a turkey dinner and that was really awful, the turkey looked like it'd been left under a heat lamp all day and the veg was barely warm and rubbery, we chose not to complain because we feel it brings the mood of the evening down, it probably won't stop us from going back either as hopefully the kitchen staff may have just had a really bad night. The waitress and serving staff were fantastic as always and the hotel is incredible

Great setting, good views, hotel lobby and tea room very nice. However we felt that the afternoon tea was very basic and plain, especially the sandwiches - egg, tuna & ham, no salad in sight & some crusts still on. We got a Wowcher deal for only £20 for two so for that price we really can't complain - we've rated 'Average' which is based purely on the quality of the afternoon tea and service levels and doesn't take into account the low price.I would recommend but only at a discount/special offer rate - don't pay the full £40 for two. If you're looking for a high quality afternoon tea with a 'classy' service to match then this isn't the place for you.

Booked the restaurant 3 course meal as part of our overnight deal with my boyfriend. Service slow. We were not asked once if we would like a drink. We had to ask for drinks after the starters were ordered & then not asked again if we would like another drink. Starters arrived cold and flavourless (chicken liver pâté & chilli garlic prawns). Mains we both ordered lamb rump served with butter knife. Added ‘posh chips’ on the side which were under cooked and also flavourless. Desert was over cooked dry brownie. The meal should have been £32 per person if we had not have got the deal with the groupon voucher. We had to pay additional for the prawns, lamb & chips. The total was £88 - we had to pay an additional £24 for the extras.. which we didn’t even think the meal deserved. Thankfully we had purchased the deal as if we had to pay £88 for this meal would have absolutely livid as we have had better meals for half the price!Staff need to be customer focussed as not other interaction with them other than taking the order. Not asked for drinks / if everything was okay / plates not cleared till we asked.

Very disappointing experience. Had booked Sunday Lunch. Ordered starters and mains and a bottle of red wine. Starters arrived, no wine, no water. Asked 3 times for wine to be served. After 30 minutes and asking once again for our ordered wine to be served, we were told it would 'be served in due course when the manager had unlocked the cupboard!' This despite wine being served to 4 other tables around us who had all been seated after us.Mains arrived and after 45 minutes of waiting we still had no wine so we asked for the mains to be taken back to the kitchen until our wine had been served.Someone who we assumed to be the restaurant manager then came and asked us if everything was alright. We explained the issues we had with service, he apologised profusely, and brought the wine. He again apologised and then our mains reappeared.Burned and blackened Yorkshire pudding, dried up roast potato, one tiny dried up carrot and parsnip and the gravy was welded to the plate. The beef however was pleasant but this was not a meal I would recommend or an experience I would consider repeating. Also, do not attempt to contact this hotel by telephone on a Sunday. We tried constantly for over 30 minutes without anyone picking up in ANY of the departments - we tried them all !!

Went yesterday (Aug 22nd) for afternoon tea. Had a buy a gift voucher which had been for my birthday and used it as it was my partner's birthday. What a disappointment. After wandering all round the place and asking at reception we eventually found the Restaurant. After being shown to our table I eventually got a glass of Prosecco but my partner had to wait for his orange juice he had requested when we sat down. After another long wait we eventually got our afternoon tea. The sandwiches were on ordinary slice bread with only half the crusts cut off. The ham was wafer thin and barely visible. The tuna? was pate spread as thinly as you could possibly spread it. Scones were OK. There was something that was like chocolate mouse which was not too impressive either. The only good thing was the homemade shortbread which was delicious. We were so disappointed and glad we had a voucher. I have had a lot nicer afternoon teas which are no where near the price of these. Service was poor. Hotel needs a lot of TLCWould not recommend and will not be going back.

We visited for the first time having had difficulty in getting in for Sunday Lunch during the last few weeks. The restaurant was very busy as Afternoon tea was also being served. We liked the small menu which generally indicates fresh food. The starter and desert were served to the table and the main course was a carvery with the option of a freshly cooked sea bass dish. All the food was attractively presented, good sized portions and was delicious. The quality of the carvery was superb with great vegetables especially the root vegetables and crystal salted potatoes. The brisket was cooked to perfection. The house wine was excellent. Service was friendly, efficient and calm. There were a good ratio of staff to guests. Lunch was leisurely. The restaurant has a nice ambience, is quite opulent and spacious easily absorbing the high number of diners. The views from the restaurant are wonderful. There is a nice bar lounge located at the rear of the hotel for after dinner coffee, etc. The grand public areas are beautiful and the hotel is in a lovely setting. The food was good, the service excellent, the only downside to the meal was the lack of choice at the carvery this time. On previous visits we've found lots of variety in the vegetables, this time there were 2 pots of potatoes, either boiled or roasted, a pot of mixed carrot and possibly swede, and a pot of cauliflower with the odd bit of broccoli. Stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary after having a lovely visit for our 1st anniversary many years before. In the 19 years since we visited, it has become a little bit shabby and is in some need of investment, although to be fair it is a very old and lovely building. The reception was quite scruffy, but our room was lovely, a generous size and overlooking the front of the hotel. The spa and pool area was very tired and quite cold. It has a very nice bar/lounge area. The staff throughout were excellent, friendly and very helpful. We booked the break via one of the voucher companies and although the deal which included dinner was very good for what we paid, our biggest disappointment was the restaurant. We entered a very warm and beautifully decorated restaurant entrance and were asked for our name by the head waiter who then asked for confirmation that we were on the voucher! We did and were then escorted through the main restaurant, down a corridor and into a very ugly back room more akin to a cafeteria. We were unsure whether we were placed there because we booked with a voucher or whether it was just genuinely busy. Either way it ruined our evening and all of the people that we spoke to in the same room also booked via a voucher and were equally disappointed. All that said, the food was very nice.

I have had afternoon tea at this venue many times before and it has always been good. Today I visited with a friend and it was terrible, the only good thing was the prosecco. There was an uneven number of sandwiches (9 finger sandwiches between two), there were 2 very small Devon scones with one mini pot of jam and a blob of cream and the cakes were virtually non existent . One cake was a quarter of a slice of swiss roll (supermarket quality), a shortbread biscuit each (homemade), a macaroon each and a small chocolate. The milk for our tea was served in an old teapot without a lid and with tea stains all around the edge - absolutely disgusting. Overall the service was very poor. When I complained to the waiter, who tried to remove our plates before we had finished, I was told he had only worked there for 3 months so he didn't know what the standards were in the past. We ordered another pot of tea which never arrived. Eventually we spoke to a waiter who was clearing the tables and he brought us some fresh tea. In the past I have always had a linen napkin, now thin paper napkins have replaced them which just goes to prove how standards have slipped. I will not be visiting this venue again and will advise friends, who I know have visited in the past, to find an alternative venue for food.

Went last Saturday night to celebrate a very special family event. We decided to eat at the Oakridge Restaurant as our relatives were staying there as part of a package. Service sadly lacking - side order never materialised. One drink arrived 15 mins later than the rest. No apologies. I asked the waiter whether the main course came with vegetables and he said yes, so decided not to order extra side orders which were £2.95 per portion - yes £2.95 extra for carrots and £2.95 for green beans - so nearly £6 for vegetables as an extra - good business if you can get it!. My main course came with a measly bit of broccoli, hardly what I was expecting and the rest of the mains was very small. Perhaps this is normal for this type of restaurant. Also had a dessert which was reasonable. I left feeling hungry! I don't think we will be going again.

Lovely place, very fancy but the deal is falsely advertised. The 'before' price shows as £45 which is the equivalent of 2 'royal afternoon tea's' but this is not what you recieve. We paid £16 for our voucher and the spread we were given was barely even worth this. Cakes were tiny and the sandwiches were average. I explained that the deal had been advertised as the royal package (including champagne) and was given a glass but not before having to partake in a mild argument with one of the waitresses. Apart from the above and being rudely interrupted half way through creaming up a scone to produce my voucher code (not sure why it couldn't wait until we were finished eating) it wasn't that bad. Wouldn't go back though.

I came here for a Sunday lunch with family. We hadn't realised that it would be a self-service buffet, which I don't think is mentioned on the website, so this straight away gave the meal a much more casual feel than we had anticipated. The food was good, but the service was unfortunately very poor. Firstly, we stood for a few minutes while members of staff stood nearby doing nothing before we were seen to. After being seated we were then left alone for ages, and were only able to order drinks after one of us when off to find a member of staff. We then ordered drinks, one of which didn't arrive, even after we chased it. By the time we were halfway through our starter and it still hadn't arrived, we cancelled it. (It still turned up on the bill though.) We also had to ask twice for water. We ordered coffees at the end, but again, after one chase we had to cancel them. All in all, it was the most inattentive service I have received in a long time, and it really contrasted with the very formal look and feel of the hotel as a whole. Perhaps the restaurant is better at dinner time (I've seen photos of it looking much more formal than the cafe-style feel it had when I was there, for example), but I definitely won't be going again for Sunday lunch.

The rating this restuarant currently has really does not reflect the truly excellent quality of food and staff The Oakridge now offers. My wife and myself dined here last night (23/06/2017), we had booked a 2 night stay at Shrigley Hall for my wife's birthday via Groupon, usually when a meal is included with such deals you typically get a very limited 'set menu' usually just printed on a piece of paper making you feel like less of a customer, this was not the case at The Oakridge, everything is on offer to Groupon customers with a few dishes carrying a small supplement, a much better idea than the 'peasant menu' other places adopt. We ordered 'bread and oils' while we had a drink and for such a simple thing it was superb, a selection of warm artisan rolls with a pesto oil and a balsamic oil, very good indeed! To start my wife ordered the ham hock terrine, she loved it, and I ordered the 'Salmon Tastes', a salmon bon bon, scorched gravadlax and a small piece of poached (I think) salmon, all excellent, though it did come with grapefruit segments instead of lemon, to me the taste of grape fruit is too harsh and bitter and masks the delicate salmon flavour, pieces of confit lemon instead would truly elevate this dish. For main my wife ordered the bass (may have been cod, I can't remember!) served in a clam chowder with bok choi, again she said it was superb, I ordered (for a £6 supplement) the seared pork chops with 'fat chips', it was a MASSIVE portion! The pork fat was rendered excellently and the meat was still moist, the fat chips were not crispy but they're not designed to be, they were perfectly tasty as they were. I would suggest perhaps loosing the £6 supplement and serve the dish with one pork chop with maybe the option for the customer to pay £6 more for the second chop, I'm a large 6'4 guy and couldn't finish it! The remains were kindly wrapped up for us as there is no sense wasting great pork! Being absolutely stuffed at this point we asked to take our dessert to the room, this was not a problem at all and was brought to us in our room shortly after. The pretzel based cheese cake my wife ordered was silky and chocolatey and the cheese board I ordered was perfectly reasonable, local British cheeses and a good chutney. The wine that came with the deal was a little sharp but perfectly drinkable, that's more my personal taste than a negative. We spoke with James (Operation Director I believe?) as we left our table, he politely asked for comments on our dining experience, I explained the food was of a much higher standard than I had expected from past reviews and the staff (Rebekah in particular) were extremely attentive and added to an excellent dining experience. Contrary to other reviews we did not wait hours to be served and there was certainly no lack of service. All in all I would happily eat here again, really a very good meal indeed with what seems like a truly conscious effort made to vastly improve the restaurant from how it has been perceived in past reviews. Give The Oakridge a chance, you will not be disappointed. Russ.

Shrigley Hall is a beautiful building in a stunning location. Visited on this occasion for lunch in the Courtyard Bar on a Monday using a Groupon voucher. Fairly busy with ladies on spa days. However the kitchen must have been understaffed as we had a very long wait for the food, both courses. We were told they were busy with afternoon teas. Surely the lunch service comes first? We had booked a table for 1pm. Very little choice on the menu. Food was nothing more than ok. Burger was overseasoned and the portion of fudge cake was miserly and hardly worth the wait. Enjoyed the prosecco. Unsuitable for those with mobility issues as there are many steps to negotiate.

My brother invited my husband and myself for Sunday lunch. 9th April .Lovely....Lunch could only be booked for 1.15pm. Our table for four was situated between two large parties for lunch. Well, you can imagine the noise level although the two tables were only enjoying themselves we could n't because of the noise. Waited ages for our order to be taken then waited ages again for the first course which was quite tasteless then waited again for the plates to be taken away. THEN waited again for our second course to be served. When it came it was cold!!!!!! the green beans were almost raw the carrots hard and the cauliflower soft! ugh!!! as guests it seems pretty mean to complain. If we had asked for the meal to be heated up it might have taken all afternoon. Asking for the dessert menu which came quite quickly but had to ask for the order to be taken the desserts did eventually arrive which in part were O.K. I thought there would have been a dress code but apparently not. We will not be back as very disapointed with a venue that classes itself as up-market. Don't believe it. Sat down for lunch at 1.15 left directly after dessert 3.45!!!!!

Eventually managed to grab a young lady who got us the Prosecco that we were due to the deal we had booked. Didn't get the starters until 9.50, no staff about. Complained to manager, main meals came 10 mins later and were cold. Very disappointing. Won't come here again .

Shrigley hall is set in lovely grounds. It's an old building with new features. On entering we went into the restaurant. Which is open and airy. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. The service was very good. You had a choice of meals and deserts to choose from. I had the ham sandwich on brown bread it came with a small salad, it was very nice. I also had a portion of chips again very nice. Followed by chocolate fudge cake. It was great value for money £19.00 for 2 people. I will definitely go again.

Since my last review the service had improved immensely. However when we went yesterday they have now changed it to a buffet lunch. This has only just changed this week as last week it was still waiter service and was very good. The buffet although OK you can get a buffet lunch at most pubs at a lot cheaper price. My opinion is overpriced buffet. Unless it changes back we wont be returning

Our grandaughter and boyfriend bought us Sunday Lunch as a Christmas present, and we went yesterday. What a shambles !. We waited over half an hour for our Starter, and if it hadn't have been for a couple pf promptings to the very nice Lady on the front desk. The only positive about this. She was magnificent, must have apologised any number of times, but was very badly let down by the Kitchen and, in the end had to go there herself to get our Starters. It' s only because of her that there are 3 blobs below. But for her we would probably still have been sitting there now. The rest of the lunch was a Carvery and a serve-yourself sweet selection, hardly individually plated, in-kitchen meals,so it is very difficult to understand how a kitchen could take so long to come up with two cold starters, other than that it was completely disorganised. Busy - yes, but if they can't handle the numbers they shouldn't try. If you want a quick lunch, don't go here ( the table behind us walked out). Otherwise pretty average fare.

We had a "Groupon" deal 3 course Sunday lunch which was a Christmas gift. Service was friendly, attentive, and prompt. My seafood starter was tasty but the lettuce was rather limp. My wife's soup was good. The main was (unexpectedly) a carvery. Beef and pork were fresh and lovely and I also had a helping of the delicious seafood paella. All veg was self serve,so good quantity and also good quality. The desserts were a triumph, again self serve. Both my crumble and custard and my wife's vanilla and raspberry cheesecake where lovely. The venue is majestic, though the bare wooden tables are a little canteeny. We had one drink each which cost us over £11 which is a bit steep. Overall however,a very enjoyable visit.

Slow service, food minimal, brought 3 of our 4 glasses of bubbly after being seated 10 mins then the other glass arrived 5 mins after asking for it. Waited ages to be seated as the staff were all out of sight and probably busy elsewhere. Eventually we were shown to our table. No bread was offered to us after placing our order, and when I enquired, was told it would be a supplemental charge of £4.50. My starter of goats cheese was delicious but a very small helping; another goat's cheese ring should be put on the plate, making two in total. My husband's main was the evening "special"; a sea bream risotto which he declared to be excellent.....a 10/10 triumph. My tuna steak with an accompanying deconstructed nicoise salad was tasty but rather dry , as there was no sauce or dressing. Dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was very good with lots of dreamy sauce. Overall, it was clear that the chef knows what he is doing and demonstrates it well. But some of the cost cutting measures (I.e. the bread and portion size) spoil the overall experience.

I booked a voucher with groupon for a 3 course Sunday lunch. I hoped Shrigley Hall would be trying to attract new customers, and that's why it was so cheap. But it turns out you get what you pay for. It was a completely bizarre experience from the beginning, the restaurant is disappointing given the external grandeur, its appearance being more like a canteen. We were given a wine menu but apparently there is no drinks menu, so the waiter had to recall to us what they could remember from behind the bar. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, which arrived after our starters. Thinking we may have another long wait for drinks we ordered our next round before we had finished our first, but had to wait even longer for these, probably half an hour. The main course of roast beef tasted reheated, there were only 3 roast potatoes and 1 floret of cauliflower each, watery gravy plus a chewy yorkshire pudding. Oh, and there was another wait for mustard - and there was no salt and pepper on the table? I expect a Sunday lunch to be hearty and filling but I was still hungry after this. Not that I particularly wanted more. After waiting 30-40 minutes for our desserts (even after prompting a waiter!) we decided we had wasted too much time here already and left. There was no atmosphere so it wasn't enjoyable waiting. We left feeling thoroughly regretful that we hadn't gone to a pub for lunch instead.

We went as a family group for Sunday Lunch, arrived escorted to a table, pulled chair out, liquid on seat? Next ordered drinks, 3/4 hr. later arrived? A further 3/4 hr. some duplicated? First course soup, watery lacking flavour, but main concern was with the soup they brought bread that had been heated up in the microwave, but only mine was in too long so it was rock hard, so I cut my gum. Reported it to the waiter who took the dishes away. No further contact from staff or management to apologise.Main courses were the redeeming feature, my wife had Tuna steak on a nicoise salad and I had a roast beef dinner both of which were delicious. Pudding I had Bakewell tart which was tasty, but tiny in size. Others in the party had the cheese board which was a good size and variety. Service wise it took 3 hours to serve a 3 course lunch, and then they got the bill wrong. I received 3 bills, two for food plus one for drinks?? Every other meal I have ever had I have only ever received one bill at the end. Overview as per title-Sunday lunch shambolic, staff need more training.

We ate in the Restaurant as part of our stay at the Hall, we had a meal on two consecutive evenings. The menu was the same on both evenings so on the first evening I had for me the obvious choice from the menu which was very good, on the second evening I went for 'not the obvious' choice and I'm very glad that I did! Everything was very tasty and the small portions meant that I was able to enjoy all three courses without going to bed feeling stuffed, though a growing lad or athlete may feel they have been short changed!

Been visiting jodrell on and off as a cyclist for the last 5/6 years, from when the modern caterer was responsible for the cafe, sadly that came to and end a while ago and the university took back charge. The food seems to have been going downhill ever since. Todays (Sunday) breakfast offering consisted of sausage or bacon barms. Precooked and left to slowly cool in a pot, not kept warm or reheated, served on an unbuttered barmcake that was left to dry out in a paper bag. The whole thing soon disintegrated because it was dryer than Gandhi’s flip flop. And they have the cheek to charge £5 for it. On the (only) plus side the coffee is still decent. May be better in the week but today was embarrassing compared to how good it used to be.

Used to be quite good, but gone down the pan. Soup, now I can make better. Appearance and texture of cheap packet stuff. Chips, now how do you manage to serve hot chips and cold chips in the same serving? Poached salmon fillet; thin piece of tail end, over cooked and dry. Got to get your own cutlery, sort of like self service. Staff doing their best, but run off their feet. Really disappointing and dare I say it, overpriced 🫤

Just awful. Overpriced (£3.55 for a small bottle of coke is just madness!!!). Jacket potatoes were undercooked, flavour-less and no butter. All portions were incredibly small. Nothing positive to say, we felt really ripped off! Over £30 for a kids lunch box, kids jacket potato (tiny) and 1 adults jacket potato. It really did put a dampener on what was a lovely day out!
