Delicious food and excellent service. Would highly recommend! I had the vegan roast and we also ordered 2 beef roasts, a fish and chips and a kids macaroni cheese. My only observation was that the kids meal came out after the others whilst I always prefer it to be served first. All in all a lovely experience with excellent views of the garden areas.

We perused the menu before booking. On entering, there was not a menu on display. Sat down, given the menu and the dishes we knew we wanted were not on there, neither were many other things. What is the point of having a menu and making you book online if it isn't up to date? Reluctantly chose something else. I do wish they'd put sauces on the side except food smothered in the sauce. Nothing to write home about, the food was hot and that is about it. Service was slow. Sat there for a good 10-15 minutes after we had finished and no one came to remove our plates. No chance we were staying for dessert after this wait. Had to track a member of staff down to pay the bill. It wasn't really busy and we can see why. In summary we decided to give this a try after having a not so good experience 4 years ago, and it hasn't changed. It is expensive too. Won't be returning.

The meal we had here shattered the conception that food inside a ticketed area has to be expensive and mediocre. The food was amazing with an unexpected offering of options and wasn't outrageous in price. Would definitely come here again when at Chester Zoo

Food very basic. Fish and chips. The batter was not throughly cooked, had to scrap off the batter and just eat the fish. Mushy peas were cold. Lamb dish was very over salted. Good points - the chips were very nice, crispy and hot. Tartar sauce also very tasty. Staff very attentive and friendly but will not be going back until there is a drastic change in the very limited menu and how it is produced. Great shame as the venue is lovely.

Service was great. Such a cute little restaurant at the zoo. Food was fabulous great fish and chips. My only criticism was that you couldn’t add chicken to the Thai green curry even tho it was options on other dishes.

I am staying at BW for work and booked dinner at Hilltops on my first night. I was initially nervous that there didn't appear to be anything suitable for vegans on the menu, but I double checked with the receptionist, who was very helpful and communicated my request to the restaurant. This was a short-notice request, so I was not expecting much, but the chefs went above and beyond. The tofu & veg curry was really tasty, and the choc fudge cake was delicious. I couldn't eat it all in one sitting, but the team prepared the leftovers for me to take to my room and eat later. Thank you to the talented kitchen team and wonderful front of house team at Hilltops!

We were visiting the Anderton Boat Lift which is just 10 minutes down the towpath from The Moorings. As the coffee shop there was quite full after the boat trip we decided to try somewhere else close by. The Moorings is a little gem of a place, run by chefs, so expect hotel like presentation of excellent food, which is worth waiting for. This is a totally different dining experience from the usual canal side cafe. Dogs are allowed inside on the hard floor area, but we sat outside with ours as it was a beautiful day and we could admire the canal boats in the marina.
