My wife and I had booked here for lunch whilst visiting the zoo. We had a very friendly welcome from the front of house gentleman and were shown to our table in the sun lounge which had a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Note there are a few steps to negotiate if you have any mobility issues as my wife does. The table server was delightful and she took our order. I opted for the haddock and chips and my wife went for the chicken and black pudding pie. My fish was beautifully cooked with a light batter and the chips and mushy peas were nice. My wife said that the pie was very nice with a thin light crust with smooth mash. She was not so keen on the hispi cabbage and said plain cabbage would have been preferable. The portions were large for us but I am sure others would eat it all. We had no sweet as we were full. Overall good food and great service.

I’m really disappointed in the food quality today. My family and I (8) reserved a table for 12pm, and we ordered our food at 12:15. At 13:05 our food arrived. My mum always orders gluten free as she is a coeliac. She could only really eat the fish and chips from the menu. When it arrived there was hardly any fish; it was mainly batter and grease. It was also completely tasteless. My burger was flavourless, and they forgot to add the pulled pork topping to ALL THREE orders, so we had to send them back. For £18.50 each, I didn’t think they were worth it. The service from the staff was brilliant and they were lovely about everything. I cannot fault them, which is why I gave this 2 stars. Not recommended.

Visiting the zoo with family, quite a quiet day so booked into the Oakfield for Sunday lunch. Was greeted at the door nice enough but staff did not look too interested until our server (who was very happy!). There was quite a few of us, so expected a wait on things but drinks came quick and nibbles. Main course was just a bit cold, and potatoes tasted stale, but meat was extremely good quality for the price (sirloin). OK portions, not warm enough and mixed service - would I go again? Probably and hoping that was just an off day as enough to make me think 'maybe it was just a bad day'.

Enjoyed a nice meal on a business event. Staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The turkey roast was delicious. The sausage meat stuffing patty was the standout. Lovely chocolate mousse dessert but could have been a bit bigger.

The food was great, it filled you up and had a lot of flavour... however the service was not the best. Had to book a table which was ok even though it was fairly empty, but when we went back for our time we were slightly early, we let the manager know we were there but early so we decided to get a drink whilst we wait. We sat waiting and people that were booked at the same time coming in after us were seated within 5 minutes. Another group came in with their booking half an hour after ours and go seated straight away, it was only when we asked when our table would be ready we were seated... They had clearly forgoten about us. No apology was given. The acutal dining was quite empty. There was a lot of waiting for service then paying. Then we heard moaning as we were leaving about not leaving a TIP.

Delicious food and excellent service. Would highly recommend! I had the vegan roast and we also ordered 2 beef roasts, a fish and chips and a kids macaroni cheese. My only observation was that the kids meal came out after the others whilst I always prefer it to be served first. All in all a lovely experience with excellent views of the garden areas.

We perused the menu before booking. On entering, there was not a menu on display. Sat down, given the menu and the dishes we knew we wanted were not on there, neither were many other things. What is the point of having a menu and making you book online if it isn't up to date? Reluctantly chose something else. I do wish they'd put sauces on the side except food smothered in the sauce. Nothing to write home about, the food was hot and that is about it. Service was slow. Sat there for a good 10-15 minutes after we had finished and no one came to remove our plates. No chance we were staying for dessert after this wait. Had to track a member of staff down to pay the bill. It wasn't really busy and we can see why. In summary we decided to give this a try after having a not so good experience 4 years ago, and it hasn't changed. It is expensive too. Won't be returning.

The meal we had here shattered the conception that food inside a ticketed area has to be expensive and mediocre. The food was amazing with an unexpected offering of options and wasn't outrageous in price. Would definitely come here again when at Chester Zoo

Food very basic. Fish and chips. The batter was not throughly cooked, had to scrap off the batter and just eat the fish. Mushy peas were cold. Lamb dish was very over salted. Good points - the chips were very nice, crispy and hot. Tartar sauce also very tasty. Staff very attentive and friendly but will not be going back until there is a drastic change in the very limited menu and how it is produced. Great shame as the venue is lovely.

Service was great. Such a cute little restaurant at the zoo. Food was fabulous great fish and chips. My only criticism was that you couldn’t add chicken to the Thai green curry even tho it was options on other dishes.

Four of us visited on Bank Holiday Monday having heard really good things about the restaurant. We were very disappointed. The toad in the hole was burnt all the way through. How any self respecting professional chef could allow inedible food the leave their kitchen is beyond me. We also ordered the mix grill but the steak we ordered medium rare was overcooked and tough as old boots. It was also missing the egg which arrived separately on a plate swimming in oil. The very small pieces of bream only came with a handful of chips. Service was poor - we were waiting for 10 minutes for our dessert menus while the staff were chatting behind the bar. It certainly didn't justify the £100+ bill.
