Today was my second visit this week. It is an amazing little find in the outstanding setting of the Shrine grounds. The service was excellent on both occasions, and the staff were friendly , helpful and very polite. The food was excellent, well presented and high quality. Portions were best described as plentiful and I ended up asking for a bag to take home what I couldn't manage! A very special mention of Marie’s fruit scones. They are to die for, and begging to be tried. You won’t be disappointed!

Downhill from here - Visited this cafe with my family, first impressions were quiet courtyard and lovely setting. The staff were really quite rude and lacked customer service skills. Coffee selection very limited with children’s menu offering just the choice of a pizza only. (Saw this pizza offering which was burnt) there were no eggs! So ordered a bacon sandwich for our 2 year old granddaughter. This was brought out to our table by a very surly member of staff within minutes of placing the order. It was made with cheap white bread and bacon that was so overcooked an adult couldn’t chew it. Won’t be visiting again.

We buy a ‘goat’ and a ‘queen’ pizza whenever we’re around Walsingham. Always enjoyed them. This time, they were beyond disappointing. We understand costs have risen but most of the topping had gone! The two were virtually indistinguishable where previously they’d been quite different and delicious. You’ve chosen a bad time to let things slip as there is now a second pizza place in Walsingham!

We were nine people (and a dog) who had just walked the snowdrop trail through Walsingham Abbey Grounds and who needed tea and cake.We were delighted to find that Nortons Cafe had room for us all but dogs were not allowed in the cafe. So four of us sat out in the garden with the dog and the other five clustered round a table in the main cafe.Although it was still very early afternoon, there were only five scones, cream and jam left so we bought all of them. There were plenty of other cake based offerings of which we took advantage, the Norfolk shortcake proving very popular. The teapots were a good size and provided good quality, hot tea. This cafe has a good, airy feel to it, in a refurbished building, with several large tables each seating four or five comfortably and several low level seats and tables scattered around. Service was good with friendly staff. Definitely a go-to venue when visiting the Abbey grounds.

Popped into the tearoom after a dog walk, ordered cappuccinos and hot chocolates - these were average hot drinks with little taste. The scones were very good and better value for money. We came to the cafe looking for lunch after a wonderful walk around the Abby during the snowdrop season. We had to wait ages to be served, during which we asked the server what toppings were available to go wth the jacket potato. From the kitchen came a terse ‘it’s on the board!!’ It clearly wasn’t or we wouldnt have asked. By the time we got to order they were all out of jackets.. oh well it happens. We then went and sat down only to have another huge wait. I went inside to enquire how long it would be. The waitress I spoke to was really pleasant however from the kitchen came another incredibly rude comment of ‘Ive only got two hands!’

An oasis of peace and quiet within the grounds of the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham. I frequently arrange to meet people in the village (friends visiting from far away places) and this is a useful place to pop into. The quality of the food is always very good and the staff are so welcoming. During the good weather there is an opportunity to enjoy the grounds and the gardens: but even inside, the whole place has an air of welcome. Thank you for looking after us. The place obviously receives a lot of visitors: don't forget there is a beautiful shrine church to visit, which literally "houses" the replica Image of Our Lady of Walsingham in the atmospheric Holy House. Having arrived on the light railway from Wells we were gasping for refreshment and finding any directions at all once in Walsingham was hard. We walked around the beautiful village and had our picnic basically in someone's drive as all the other open spaces seemed a bit holy and we had young children with us. Anyway we arrived at the heavily advertised Farm Shop where a sign said coffees - went in and had a look at the usual farm shop fayre and asked a lady where was the café. She said we don't do coffees- that's all she said. Anyway we find Norton's which is basically situated behind the farm shop and I recommend visitors go there where they will find a warm welcome, refreshments including lovely cake and nice areas to sit in. Walsingham is a most beautiful village but a bit bereft of facilities for the visitor unless you are willing to pay entrance for the religious attractions - a bit expensive for young children.

This is more a complaint than a review. I have been coming to this cafe which serves mainly pilgrims who come to stay in the retreat house at Walsingham. It is a pleasant spacious restaurant, good tables, new ones outside which are very smart. The menu is good plain fare. But the last three times we have been here two men have been serving behind the counter. One is cheerless and dour and miserable- he clearly hates his job, hates people and does his very best not to be even faintly welcoming. Today, however, when we went to coffee and possibly breakast ( at 11.10 when it finishes breakfast service at 11.30) he was downright rude. I was shocked and tried to be extra cheerful and pleasant.. clearly a mistake. I was told breakfast items were not available - I insisted that it was only 11.10. he rang up to the canteen where the food is cooked and of course, they WERE available. I asked for extra strong coffee. 'We serve it as we serve it.' For the on-the-menu toasted teacake with cinnamon butter. 'No.' I asked what No meant. 'It means we haven't got any.' He slammed the tray down onto our table so that the cups rattled. He was being very rude to a lady in the queue afterwards - within our hearing ,. Of all the places where this should not be the attitude, this cafe, in a Christian place of pilgrimage and retreat to which many older, frail, and disabled people come should be ashamed of the itself. Work is not so easy to come by in Norfolk, the work surroundings here are pleasant and spacious, the customers nice, well-mannered people. Plenty would be glad of the job and serve the place better. We are regular visitors to the place but we will be going elsewhere for coffee etc until the counter staff can change their attitude to customers.

Have visited the Norton Cafe quite regularly, and enjoyed comfortable seating and delightful setting in the beautiful Shrine Gardens, and usually have received warm welcome, but on my last visit made to feel very unwelcome by quite hostile attitude of the server: made to feel quite guilty at bothering him ! What a shame that one person can create an unfavourable impression.... This underlines the importance of staff training, and remembering the old phrase that it's the customer who pays your wages.

Always a great selection of food, and a welcome break. Staff are always friendly no matter what time of the year

Having had a bad experience in the morning at the Roman Catholic shrine down the road we called in here for afternoon tea on a cold wet day and are glad we did. The décor is warm and welcoming, as are the staff, and we all had a bowl of very good home made soup with a doorstep of soft yummy bread. A great place to rest and contemplate the surroundings.

I mis-read the rating system and only gave one circle. It is definitely a 5 circle spot, I.e., EXCELLENT!

We stopped here for Sunday lunch on the walk from Sheringham back to Cromer after Sunday morning church at Life Church in Sheringham. Conveniently situated just a few minutes from the coast path. Although we had not booked they were able to accommodate us in the garden. Food was excellent and seemed good value.

The food was very good well cooked and presented, we had to wait for a while before our order was placed, however it's a busy local pub which caters for holiday makers also so this could have been the reason for the wait. Cheerful and pleasant staff, I would certainly eat there again.

WOW …What a find … great food choices . But just needed a coffee and coffee cake before going to the beach. Lovely friendly staff …Fantastic to know they have staff with learning difficulties who were so polite friendly and even gave my dog a treat . It will be my regular from now on . Many thanks

Been here before as we are fairly local and it was good. But this time terrible and very expensive we had roast pork with apple sauce, stuffing and crackling. Meat was mostly really Fatty and baguette was filled mostly with stuffing best bit was the crackling. At £8 each I expect far better just ripping off the holiday makers. Don’t think we will be going again. It was barely warm so back to the pie man at sheringham for us.
