Amazing pasties. We were determined to have a Cornish dinner one night during our stay so were on the lookout for somewhere to stop while driving. Meat chunks were huge, pastry was thin and crisp. If I could eat them every day I would

This is the new Nile’s cafe at Carclaze, overlooking St Austell Bay. A prestigious location, with a fantastic location. The fayre is that of a bakery but with the added bonus of decent breakfasts and a lunchtime offering of basic food. Generally the staff here are very attentive, polite and courteous. The problem is with the owner. If ever there was someone who was not cut out for running a customer focussed, service led business, it’s him. The staff seem to excel despite his presence. To try and be concise, he’s unfriendly, rude, curt, abrupt, offensive, won’t own his mistakes, and is simply in the wrong business. How he manages to screw up simple orders, deliver late orders or just not deliver at all, is beyond me and then like a true narcissist, tries to make it the customer’s fault, by gaslighting them into believing it’s their mistake? He should perhaps consider a radical career change, perhaps the prison service, some branch of the military or even a lighthouse keeper, where he can make himself even more miserable and not affect others.. In an age where businesses struggle to find, train and retain staff, I fear for them. Worse still, I fear for the customers. Top tip: avoid this one and maybe use the Holmbush or Pentewan Road - anywhere that he’s not working.

Shocked at Nile’s backers in St Austell near Mc Donald’s staff r so rude!! I ordered a bacon egg and hash brown roll when I asked if I could have the egg flipped over and well done due to being pregnant she stared streight through me like I was invisible and Diddnt exist and Diddnt respond to me completely blanked me although she heard my request, and started talking to another man, she was so rude, the other lady chucks my roll on the counter in a rude manner after throwing it together in 2 minutes, I said can I have some salad in that please as wasn’t asked this time, and I always opt for salad in my rolls, I was told if you want salad that’s an extra item so I said I’m happy to pay for the extra bit of salad thinking £1-£2 although have never had to pay for salad in the sandwiches before at this place ever! I was then told it’s another £5 for a salad box if I wanted a little bit of salad in my roll and that if I wanted salad in my roll I would have to buy a salad box although I did not want a whole salad just a little bit in my roll, so altogether they tried charging me £10 for a sandwich because I wanted a few leaves of salad in it! Which is usually offered at no extra cost, Staff at this place have a serious attitude problem, got to my van n the egg was runny when I said I need the egg well done because I’m pregnant I took the sandwich back and got a refund as the sandwich was not as I ordered and I Diddnt like their attitude re trying to rip me off £5 for a tiny bit of salad! And then Diddnt trust them to make another with the attitudes they they had, I then went to the other one the other side of town where the staff are lovely and polite and Diddnt try charging me £5 for the salad in my sandwich and was asked if I wanted any!! Avoid Nile’s near Mc Donald’s they littraly throw the food together without a care in the world not listening to the customers preferences and have serious attitude problems and try robbing you of your money!! Descusting place!! Will never be returning!!

We visited Niles bakery for some treats and were really impressed so we decided to go back the next day for breakfast. We ordered, amongst other things, a veggie breakfast, but we asked if the beans from the veggie breakfast could be served separately in a bowl. We were told that was fine. We waited, and waited, and waited. It was busy and the food was being freshly cooked so we didn't mind but we had two hungry children who were eagerly awaiting their food. After a considerable time a waitress appeared with our breakfasts. The veggie breakfast was swimming in beans. We pointed out that we'd asked for the beans to be in a separate bowl and the waitress practically threw the plate on the table and said that she knew but they don't have time to put the beans in a bowl. The children were hungry so we didn't make a fuss and made do with what we'd been given but we asked for the beans to be separate for a reason. The person having the veggie breakfast can't eat beans, they were for someone else at the table. Had we been told when we ordered that this (very simple) request wasn't possible then we would have ordered differently. The other staff had all been friendly and accommodating but the waitress who brought our food to the table was so rude and unpleasant to deal with, she really let your business down and is the reason that I won't be visiting again.

Popped in for a quick lunch. Served by a pleasant young waitress. Shame not all the staff are as pleasant, as another server was quite rude and abrupt to another customer in the queue which was uncomfortable and made for an unpleasant environment. The bread on one of our sandwiches was stale, which was disappointing for a bakery. One of our sandwiches was nice, tasty and the filling/salad fresh, however we wouldn't return here.

As a regular pasty consumer at Niles Bakery, after a heavy night we thought what a better way to soak up all of that alcohol other then their famed English breakfast. On appearance, our toast looked like any toast. However, once I pierced my toast with my fork, it shattered like a mirror. I was left humiliated with crumbs everywhere. I turned to my colleague to see him covered in toast dust - he was completely toasted. On second bite, it was dry and sharp. More like a twiglet that toast. Further to my distress, the HP sauce wasn’t even HP sauce. It was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The ketchup was good. The beans were the best ever, Michelin star tinned beans. All being said, would come again for a pasty or two. But never breakfast. Have a nice day

We waited very little time for our cooked breakfast to arrive. It was ample, non greasy and very tasty. We also had condiments in clean smart containers. These did not adorn the tables all the time so the restaurant area looked clean and modern...nothing like a 'greasy spoon'. We enjoyed the breakfast but please make sure the plates are warmed first. one of my pet hates is cold plates, they need to be warm before putting the food on them or else the food goes cold quickly. I thought the tea was a bit expensive, a pot of tea for 2 for £3.60, we just had enough for 1 1/2 cups each, could have done with a jug of hot water to top the pot up. There were some specials on the special board which looked very good value for money so might try these next time.
