Great food, large portions and great set meal value!

Lovely and friendly staff, they remember you and you can tell they take time to make sure the food you get is perfect, wont go anywhere else 10/10 I highly recommend the Singapore rice noodles if you like your spice, tastes unreal❤️

Popped in on the way home around 20:00, super friendly staff, we ordered the crispy squid with salt & pepper, didn’t have to wait long for our food and ate in on our way home. Delicious! Would highly recommend and will be definitely be using again .

Probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. crispy shredded beef was seeming in gloopy sauce, we ordered chicken satay and we aren’t even sure what turned up, and it smelt gross. Chicken balls were gristley it was all terrible

Really disappointed in this shop ordered a1 meal for one and chicken chow main witch includes chicken balls egg fried rice and curry of choice so I ordered then the man came out with only 2 tubs where there was ment to be 3 tubs but 2 came out said why only 2 tubs and the guy said we mixed the rice with the curry not even a heads up and I like it separate and also did not come out with chicken balls so bad on there half so unhappy well done another unhappy customer and another one lost

The best fish and chips in Portsmouth UPDATE - Shortly after leaving this review, The Highland Fling became Ni Hao, and stopped selling fish and chips, which is a real shame, because they were great.

Bring Back Highland Fling !! To be fair my wife enjoyed her chicken chow mien and pancake rolls hence 2 stars, however the hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour and the ‘ hot dragon ‘ extra hot curry had no spice at all !! Re tried due to re branding but won’t order again whereas we were regulars at the old Highland Fling . Don’t bother !!

Ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls and Salt and Pepper Chicken, There was so much Sweet and sour chicken and the sauce pot was huge! Absolutely delicious

I just ordered shredded chilli beef , kung po chicken and egg fried rice . I’ve never not eaten a Chinese meal put in front of me and I’ve sucked the skin off of a chickens foot in the Northern Territory . The worst versions of my favourite dishes I’ve ever come across , straight in the bin , what a waste of £21 , knew I should have gone Texas bbq. It wouldn’t let me post without at least one star

I would never rate it as a good place to buy food it's just not the same as it used to be.

Haddock was awful - not at all fresh and batter that tasted old. Chips were largely thin with little or no potato inside. Also tasted poor. Staff were good, well trained. But if you don't invest in quality raw materials, it doesn't matter how well you train your staff.

Have not ordered from here for a few years but decided to try it again as it was a bank holiday and not many Chinese take aways were open. Ordered on the Uber eats app so paid over £5 for delivery. Delivery took about 45 mins. Our quarter of aromatic duck was mediocre. The chicken chowmein didn't have much chicken it, the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style was nice. However we also ordered BBQ ribs and upon opening found satay chicken. Even though it was ordered through Uber we had to contact the store with any issues. They offered to deliver the ribs and swap them for the satay - not sure who they would then have given them to! However I asked for a refund as I didn't want half my dinner 45 minutes later which she agreed. Some 30 minutes later, just as we had finished eating there was a knock at the door which was the delivery driver with the ribs but she wouldn't give to us as my husband had eaten a couple of the satay and she said they had to be swapped. So food was mediocre at best and customer service was rubbish.

Awful food, small portions was always mine and my wife's favourite Chinese with previous owners, either bring them back or shut them down because the food was discusting, will never buy here again.

Update: I haven’t been back once, mainly due to abysmal hygiene standards. Think people wiping their noses with their fingers then wrapping your meal. Nice. I ordered chicken balls, sauce and chips. On returning home: bright pink chicken. Didn't fancy being poisoned and it looked disgusting so I had to ditch it. Chip butties for dinner. Disappointed. Wrote it off as a one-off. Another time: Ordered same meal, chicken balls and chips. Got home, discovered I only had (lukewarm) chips, no chicken. Disappointed again. Phoned to complain, politely as possible. I received a polite apology but still unhappy. Chip butties for dinner, again. All my 5-10 visits before that: Same meal (my Friday favourite), all OK. Hesitant to go back.

First time ordered from here since the new owners have taken over .This has been my favourite Chinese shop for the last 20yrs. But sadly no more. Standards have totally skydived

I am very disappointed after being a loyal customer to the previous owners to then came and see that the foods standard has severely declined I will not be coming back here that is way I rate this Chinese so low.

It was a great fish and chip shop.....until recently when in October 2021, new owners decided the fish must go and they have been thrown back in the sea......the fish sign blanked out over the shop signage but you can still buy chips. More fool them. They will lose much custom. There are plenty of Chinese food places near by and actually better quality but fish is less easy to get. So you have lost my custom of many years to the Cod Squad in Albert Road, and so goes all the others things I would have purchased from you at the same time if you had continued to offer fish. We families don't just buy one meal but many at the same time so you lose out.

Dreadful, ordered 4th July 2020 so just last night. Staff couldnt explain the dishes. Food was tasteless greasy and watery. Wont be using this take away again. Pretty disgusting and I am nⁿot particularly fussy

Absolutely appalled by the customer service at this place. Ordered food only for the chicken to be raw still (see the latest picture on Google). Rang up to complain to for a refund only to be told by the charming but very rude lady on the phone, that their chicken is precooked from wholesalers. Well im sorry but that means the chicken is then cooked twice so how the hell does every piece of chicken from 2 lots of curry turnout to be pink and raw still? My wife and I were both promised a call back within 5mins but nothing so 30mins later had to call them back and was met with more excuses and that they were really busy serving others. Shouldnt you be trying to correct the problem of potential food poisoning before trying to put more cash through the tills. Was hung up both times then ignored when trying to call back so i will be taking the food and pictures to the next step. The rude lady on the phone sums up this place very RAW. Good luck with your spot checks and unannounced visits from the food safety officers. Customers always right!!!!!! .

It's one of the best Chinese takeaway in Portsmouth. The food is tasty and less oily than others (on a good day). The back pepper ribs are to die for... :)

I would give it a 0* if possible. Placed an order just after they opened. It took over an hour to come. I called after half hour just to see how long it would be, I was told he was on his way. No problem. I then left it another 20 minutes as I'm a 2 minute drive away. Called back, they said they would find out where it is and call me back. No problem. Left another 10 minutes.... I had to call them again as they didn't call me back. Said that he had done it back to front and they had made a mistake, whatever that means. To be completely honest, the women who I spoke to didn't seem bothered at all. Like I was an inconvenience. When it turned up it was garbage. The pork was chewy, the chicken was dry. Then to top it all off, I was violently sick 3 hours after and my stomach is still in bits. £16.20 was a joke for this. Stay in your lane with a deep fat frier.

After just receiving my meal I noticed my curry was missing so phoned and was told they would send out another one but not the rice as they have already sent one out. I said the rice would be cold and they said to reheat it, So I said that you shouldn’t reheat rice and was told to put the tub of rice in hot water to keep it warm. The girl on the phone was rude and didn’t even offer an apology for the mistake. I asked to speak to the manager and was told no because he didn’t speak English. AVOID.!!!! I’ve been using this Chinese for about a year now and won’t be using it again 😡

A Chinese takeaway that is also a traditional chippy. The chips, cod and battered burgers are very tasty and have been ordered many times! ****** I've downgraded the score now as although they advertise in their window they are open till 11pm, when we walked in at 10pm they had run out of chips and wouldn't cook any more! Not sure what they are like for Chinese food, but obviously I can no longer recommend them as a traditional chippy if they only sell them when it suits, which is a great shame as they were pretty good before.

Order took over 2 hrs to deliver food was luke warm really not worth the money. The women who I spoke to on the phone was rude and just kept makeing the same excuse each time I phoned. I would not eat here was a really good take away before really gone down hill
