A few comments- The automatic 12% service charge. I asked for it to be taken off as tips should be voluntary. It’s awkward so it should be looked at. I was only stopping with two friends for a quick drink and one snack… Also there is only one unisex loo (beautifully decorated) however many of us women are not comfortable using unisex toilets . Staff were competent and friendly, food delicious, atmosphere good (DJ) but the toilets and automatic service charge may delay a return.

Nice place, but staff can not handle busy periods. Cocktails were very overpriced for what they were, food was ok but not great, calamari rubbery and overcooked, and very small portions

Food was okay, wouldn't say it particularly competes with some of the other tapas places around. The servers were pleasant and the general decoration is quirky and eye catching. Didn't appreciate the greedy 12.5% stealth charge. If I want to tip I'd like it to be my choice and to choose how much. The onus shouldn't be on customers to feel awkward asking for it to be removed. Edit to respond to owner (this was to their initial response which they have heavilty changed AGAIN to remove the abusive language and rhetoric. Incredibly childish - imagine if you spent half the time making the place nice for customers instead of falsifying reviews): It is extremely disappointing to see the level of entitlement from the owners, completely missing my point and being petty in comments. I tipped you, however, asking for a near £9 tip on a £70 bill is too much. In the UK staff are paid a living wage, this is not America and with the cost of living not everyone can afford to fluff up your wages with free money. If you're overburdened and putting YOUR staff under immense pressure then clearly you need to think about how many staff YOU hire, instead of running people into the ground and relying on the public to support their wages. Amending my rating (was 3*).

No quibbles at all when we asked them to close the door as we were getting chilly! We genuinely can’t wait to come back. Hubby’s fave was the pork belly, the octopus mine. My husband booked a dinner for two, arrived and seated outside (inside was empty) Asked for inside table but were told it was full) completely empty for our entire evening . Missed food off our order, sat in the cold evening breeze with no offer of blanket and no heat lamps . Only time we had a drink was after 2 hours and asking ourselves (when we could grab somebody) Service was shocking , food missing from order and spent the entire evening in the cold and waiting for a mouthful of food every 30 minutes or so. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone and won’t go back .

I would say it was a wonderful experience and location to enjoy tasty tapas. And the decor has a nice feel to it. We had a variety of food and drink, reasonable price and good quality. They forgot a dish we ordered and would have personally expected a slightly larger Aperol spritz, so that was a bit peeving as I was looking forward to the dish I ordered, but apart from that it was not half bad.

Friendly service, servings well-timed between bringing out dishes. Very enjoyable & would recommend 100%

This visit was planned well in advance; but then everything had to be changed. Originally this was a birthday lunch for two; my treat and with my Partner being the ‘birthday girl’. We had called-in here weeks earlier to select a table, sample the wine, and glance at the menus. Then my Partner’s invited her daughter to visit us for the weekend by and she brought “Pippa” with her. Pippa is a 15-month old, very large and energetic, but friendly, Doberman puppy. I had contacted the restaurant giving advance notice that we would be accompanied, and then I ‘casually’ mentioned the hound. To be honest I was expecting to be rebuffed or offered outdoor seating. The latter was not really an option, because the weather forecast was for almost continuous rain (well it was June!). The chap I spoke-to was most understanding and agreed that we could indeed sit in the restaurant with the hound, on the proviso that said hound would behave impeccably. In the end there was no rain on the day of our visit, but it was very windy, and far too cold to be comfortably seated outside ... as I say it was June! The restaurant serves tapas with a twist; by theming selected plates to different countries: these countries change every few weeks. It was plates themed on Syria during our visit: and having travelled extensively in the middle east, in the 1970’s to 1990’s, I had looked forward to the dining experience here today. Having spent time working in the middle east, I found the food in these counties interesting. These were exotic flavourings that I was unaccustomed-with, and had really enjoyed during my travels. We arrived a few minutes earlier than our 2pm reservation and, as we had been told it would be, the restaurant was quiet. There was a party of six braving the elements sat at a large table on the generous patio area, and there was a party of four sat at a table inside the restaurant. We were shown to our table, providing a view of the patio area. When we had all settled-in we studied the menus. We ordered bottled tap-water and wine by the glass, the latter being Rioja and Provence Rosé. The Rosé was my tipple and was really very pleasant, delicate and much enjoyed. A range of tapas plates were ordered, but my Partner’s daughter’s choices were somewhat limited by her being a celiac. This precluded plates that contain any trace of gluten, even food fried in the same oil as food that contained gluten would be ‘poison’. So, for her, certain plates on the menu were off-limits. A good variation of plates however were ordered: One serving of Marinated Mixed Olives (V, GF) - Stone in. From Spain, Greece, Turkey and Italy, herbs and garlic. I do not enjoy olives but they were enjoyed by my Partner and her daughter. Two servings of Herb-Tossed Sourdough (GF available) - Olive oil and aged balsamic. Lovely plate; the perfectly toasted sourdough was warm and crunchy, but soft enough to absorb the pale and delicate olive oil, and the strong and tangy balsamic vinegar. Two servings of Patatas Bravas (GF, V available) - Crispy fried potato cubes with smoky, lightly spiced tomato and red pepper salsa. Really very good, hot and slightly crunchy patatas, with a spicy bravas sauce. This plate was cooked in ‘contaminated’ oil so was not available as a true GF plate. It was commendable that the waiter advised us about the shared cooking oil: it being a total ‘no-no’ for celiacs. Three servings of Purple Butterfly Pea Flower Risotto (GF) - Seared scallops and king prawns, saffron Beurre Blanc, with samphire spears. Probably the plate that I enjoyed the most. I am not a great fan of risotto, which has to be perfectly cooked (and sadly rarely is) for me to enjoy. The risotto was perfectly cooked and it was exquisite, but with only one scallop was a bit mean. I feel that the description of this plate on the menu to be misleading. The menu says ‘scallops’ (actually on the website it is misspelt as ‘scallopes’). This indicates the plural and one scallop is not a ‘plural’ quantity. The samphire spears (misspelt as ‘spearse’ on the website menu) are always a joy; such a beautiful accompaniment to any fish. Shared (between two) serving of King Prawns (GF, N) - Sautéed in garlic, Ouzo, white wine and sun-dried tomato pesto cream. A lovely plate, and we should have ordered a plate each. The firm and juicy prawns were just perfectly cooked, and the sauce was divine. Shared (between two) serving of Crunchy Parmesan and Potato Coated Cod - Mushy minty peas, tartare sauce. A wonderful plate and again we should have ordered a plate each. The perfectly cooked crunchy-coated flaky cod was firm and meaty, but a bit thin. The mushiness of the petite-pois style peas was not excessive (certainly not chip-shop style). The sharp-tasting tartare sauce was great. Three servings of Balsamic Glazed Lamb Cutlets (GF) - Balsamic, honey and basil glaze, wilted spinach with garlic and mint, sautéed vegetables. This was a tad disappointing for me, it was perfectly cooked (i.e. pink and juicy meat) but one of my two culets had so little meat on it, that it was almost a waste of effort on trying to eat it. The broccoli was over-cooked and fine beans were what they are (IMHO just a waste of plate space). So the food was mostly excellent, but the service was sadly not at all good. Food plates were served too far apart, consequently there was no flow to the meal. I had two glasses of wine and would most likely have had more if the waiting staff had given me an opportunity to order it! Waiting staff rarely even walked past our table. I had to attract their attention by turning around in my seat and physically signalling to get more wine. After the final plate we sat for over 10 minutes before our plates were cleared; then I got up walked to the bar and paid the bill. As we were gathering ourselves to leave, the manager appeared at our table and was surprised to learn we had already paid! If the restaurant had been busy then I would have understood; but with only three tables in use, it was just rubbish service. Would we go again? Yes for most of the food (we would cherry pick and have less variety of plates but more individual rather than shared plates). It is true however we would probably not return because of the service.

I had booking today (Saturday 11th May), we gad booked it 1 month in advance. We called up before make the booking as the 21st Birthday girl - which was a surprise - as she was coeliac and we want to check if the menu was gluten free. We were told the majority of the menu was. So we booked it and very looking forward to the flavourful tapas. We arriving at the New Moon on the Quay and we notify are waitress that the birthday girl was coeliac as she got the general manager. The general manager came over and he asked if she was happy for the items that she select on the menu to be fried in the same oil has the gluten dishes. He explain that gluten is killed at 180 degree and that he had a level 2 health safety in catering. However, i am a manager at restaurant along with all the girls at the table with level 3 health and safety in catering and a birthday girl who has been coeliac for 10 years and i know and she knows FOR A FACT that gluten is NOT KILL by 180 degrees oil. We kindly point this out this is not the case and he said she must chose something else from the menu. After talking it through as a group, the birthday girl who is coeliac didn't feel comfort eating at this establishment. We called for the general manager back table to table. We explains that we rang over a month ago and were told everything is a gluten free and cooking separately which at the table was not true. The general manager became extremely rude and began to belittle the girl was coeliac, saying that they would cooking everything in a separate pan which was no offered originally and that most people with intolerance are fine. Anyone who suffers with coeliac disease knows THIS ISN'T OKAY. Also she was simple told to chose something that other then some fried. Which he response that we change the oil this morning. The general manager made the girl feel extremely uncomfortable and didn't seem to understand her allergies. We left paying for the drinks which i believe we should even have payed for due to not even touching them. The general manager then persist to say we would response to my trip advisor review. The aggregative the situation further which meant we had to find somewhere to eat in a busy Bristol and on Saturday night and made us extremely late to our next booking which was no refundable. I would like the owner the of the establishment to email myself back as the behaviour of the general manager was disgrace - would NOT RECOMMEND to anyone

Sad to be writing this because the food was great but the experience was let down by very poor service. Staff seemed not to have expected numbers prompted by a sunny Saturday on a bank holiday weekend and although we had booked and allowed plenty of time it took a number of complaints to actually get food on the table. Four dishes and an hour for the first item and a further half hour for the rest after significant complaining. Boss bloke was super apologetic and the food was worth the wait but it spoiled the experience for me. Cannot recommend the purple pea butterfly risotto highly enough and obviously great views over the docks.

Beautiful flavours, the tapas was fresh and well presented; we loved the patatas bravas, Padron peppers and a gorgeous aubergine dish from Cape Verde (the country of the month, it’s Syria next). Six of us got together from all corners of the country for an annual reunion. The online booking system had booked us in with no problem and it was immediately welcoming. A slightly scruffy first impression with menus all over the place and a slightly haphazard looking bar, but understandable for a busy and small tapas venue. Once properly inside it was really attractive and comfortable and we had a fabulous table with plenty of space and comfortable seating, great spacious sofas, which still allowed us to sit properly at the table. The food was absolutely delicious, lots of choice for everyone, including veggies, meat eaters and potato lovers alike. Would particularly recommend the padron peppers and the coconut chicken. Service was very friendly. Great atmosphere, and we could all hear each other talking, not too loud! A really lovely evening, I'd highly recommend and can't wait to come back.

Incredible food, lovely vibe inside, and a wonderful host. We loved the concept of the restaurant, we went during Cape Verde and really enjoyed the specials and main menu. The cocktails were great and the atmosphere of the restaurant was really chill and quirky. I’d recommend the lamb cutlets and the creamy mushrooms - so tasty! I was massively impressed by the large amount of gluten free options on the menu. Almost everything was gluten free or has the ability to be at no extra cost which I find so helpful. We will definitely visit again! Thank you for a lovely time :)

Nothing compared to its sister branch in Clifton, booked for dinner for 6 table by door and other internal door into the tented area- very cold and draughty. Service took a while to be treated and drink order ages! Inc ran out of the wine and drinks off menu we wanted- Whole ordering experience was a little hectic, nothing was really explained with the arrival of plates not coming out at the same time! We collectively ordered 10 dishes and they all came out at completely different times! And very small plates for the cost ( food was okay ) Octopus very Smokey and chewy) Challenged staff on lateness of food and then it came out after everyone had finished. When the bill came we underpaid the service charge by £2 (which was £16) and the waiter told us we hadn’t paid the bill in full and demanded full payment!? (New experience!) and he was rude , until the manager came and explained all was ok! Ps: they don’t take cash! Why I don’t know! But overall okay, lovely place in summer sat outside for a drink and snack, but left disappointed, hungry and expecting a lot more

Fantastic food, great service and knock-out cocktails. My wife and I were saved late on a Sunday evening trying to find a restaurant in Bristol still open at 9pm. The lovely Nicolai gave a warm welcome and some great cocktail recommendations. They have a really broad tapas menu with a lot of dishes you won't find in a typical Spanish tapas bar. The menu also changes monthly with new dishes from around the world (it was dishes from Haiti when we dined). Everything is cooked fresh, from scratch and the portion sizes are decent and suit every taste/dietary requirement. I'd highly recommend you pay a visit, great food, great atmosphere.

I’ve visited New Moon in the Quay a couple of times previously - always in the summer so had been able to dine al fresco. This was the first time I visited in rather cold weather and dined indoors. I was met by lovely staff who showed us to our table in the back of the restaurant which was really chilly - due to the time of year and this part of the restaurant being technically outdoors but covered by a gazebo/trapeze type tarpaulin (looked beautiful and well decorated with all sorts of nick naks and fairy lights). There were lots of overhead heaters and also standing heaters to try and create warmth. We were seen to quickly and drinks and food orders taken and food brought out relatively promptly as it was ready (tapas style). Absolutely delicious food! Every dish was a hit no complaints. Also really lovely cocktails. Again, throughout the meal really attentive and lovely staff. The only note of improvement I’d have is that the environment was too cold such that I had to keep my coat on all evening, but I also know that the restaurant had done all they had to try and warm it up! It was just pretty bad weather! I’ll definitely revisit but may just stick to days when I know the weather is warm in case I’m sat in the back of the restaurant!

Amazing food and really friendly staff. Such a unique idea of having a different countries cuisine every month and I really enjoyed the food and the cocktail I had was delicious. We booked this for my birthday and it was really special!

Expresso Martini for THAT price definitely needs improving. Fresh coffee and more vodka quantity as 25 ml felt like for two cocktails not one.

As you walk up to the restaurant you can tell its special. Quirky decor, flamingo lamps, French armoire and rich colours. Fab greeting, fab service and fab tapas plates to enjoy. This is a must do restaurant for couples or a group of friends to share tastes from all over the world. Recommend for sure and thank you for making our evening special and enjoyable. See you asap.

We visited New Moon at Bristol Harbour today. We enjoyed every bite, especially the chorizo and octopus. Jack is very attentive and friendly as always. Can’t wait to go back!

the Haiti menu caught our attention as we walked along the harbourside this evening - fully booked inside but friendly staff installed the 2 of us in the "geode" - it was cooling quickly so blankets were offered. Trio of dips was so tasty, turmeric humus my favourite but each flavour was lovely and there were three types of pita too. Followed on with ... Chicken cashew dish and pork griot - both dishes were very tasty but the pork especially so, I almost licked the plate. Would have appreciated a few more slices of the plantain with the pork dish as it went so well with the sauce. Low score for atmosphere as we were almost the only people outside but it was a bit cold - I will definitely be booking and going inside next time.

Popped into New Moon for lunch over the weekend and it was overall so lovely. The food was delicious, with an interesting menu and a big range of flavors. It was fun being able to pick a few small plates to share. The service was great - the staff was friendly and informative, and clearly passionate about the menu. And finally, the atmosphere was great - the decor is interesting and it felt like a lovely laidback and yet elevated lunch in the water. Cant wait to go back and try next menu :)

What a great Small plate and cocktail spot! I must admit I've never been to the new moon except for a nice cold beer out the front on a nice sunny summers day. But this time I was sat inside the very welcoming and quirky restaurant. I absolutely loved the decor inside! The setting was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I was very excited to try their every changing (every new moon) menu. Which take you around the world and this moon it's Mozambique in SE africa. The special menu and menu is very extensive and there's really something for everyone. Including GF, Coeliac as 95% of their menu was substitutable. We had: 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: -PATATAS BRAVAS, Triple cooked potato cubes, smoky, lightly spiced tomato & red pepper dipping sauce. -PURPLE BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER RISOTTO, Seared king prawns, saffron & white wine Beurre Blanc and samphire. -CRISPY FRIED CALAMARI, Dill crust, Sriracha, garlic & lemon zest mayonnaise sauce. -EAST AFRICAN FISH DISH, Pan fried cod. Coconut, tomato, crayfish and shrimp stew and jollof rice. -THAI COCONUT CHICKEN, Thai coconut curry with sweet basil, galangal, ginger, lemongrass, fresh turmeric. -MOZAMBIQUE SPICED SLOW ROASTED LAMB, Served with apricot and mint slaw 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁: -PUDIM/EGG FLAN, Rich and creamy set custard desert. Coconut crunch 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀: -MOZAM-FLEEK, White & dark rum, Disaronno, raspberry syrup, egg white, basil. -MARACUYA MARTINI Vodka, Passos, Passion fruit puree. @bristolian_foodie

I've paid a lot more for less food of lower quality. Big portions of tasty food at bargain prices. I'll be back.

A taste of Mexican so I had a £27 burger. Wow not seen many Mexicans eating here. But a birthday treat it was. 😋

This is my favourite cafe in Bristol. It’s a space that as a queer person immediately feels safe and homely. I’ve eaten here a few times and the food is always immaculate, the chai lattes are good and it’s a coop so it feels good to pay because you know you’re paying the working people not some guy on a yacht. Mainly leaving this review because I was showing my friend where we’re going today and I saw someone had left a 1star. Not cool bro. If you want someone to wait on you like you’re royalty to into a chain and have an overworked underpaid young person serve you.

Exceptional food and drink when we visited. A lovely little place and attention to detail in the flavors was spot on. If you are in Bristol be sure to check it out if you enjoy a variety of veggy dishes, fish and meats and great desserts.
