Stopped here for a half pint only to be told they only serve pints. Some other potential customers told the same. Is this a joke pub? Won't be calling again!

We were surprised to see such an atheistically beautiful old pub so quiet on a bank holiday weekend - but soon learnt why. As a large group and in front of a nice open fire, we could have easily have got tucked in for a while; however after our first interaction with the incredibly rude landlord, our money was clearly not wanted. With us being the only people in pub, it was quite the shock that he asked us to keep the noise down, and that children (13 & 16) weren't allowed in the bar (with us having been sat there for 30 mins by then). If you like empty, library like atmosphered old pubs; with a landlord's mentality from yesteryear - this is the place for you. If not; the Craven Arms (200m up the road) couldn't have been more welcoming, great atmosphere and a serving team who genuinely interested in interacting with their clientele.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a brill time! Our room was spacious and the bed was huge and comfy. Our view was stunning; fields and fields of stone walls, lambs and black rabbits! Our hosts were very friendly and chatty, and left us to do our own thing. They don't do halves, they do currently close at 7.30pm and all the better for it. Too often, when I visit a pub, you find yourself standing in front of an disinterested, unexperienced member of staff who would rather be somewhere else. At the New Inn, Sarah and Graeme are dedicated to good beer and food, and don't stick to the conventional 'rules' of running a pub. Will definitely be back!

Wont be visiting again I'm afraid. It must be a locals pub as its so uninviting. It felt as though our custom wasnt wanted. Lots of NO signs all over the place, wife wanted a half but "we dont do halves" and half the beer was out. Mad sheep dog tied up outside, constantly banging its heads underneath the table it was tied to as it jumped up and down every time a car went past, so cruel. Go to the Craven Arms down the road instead, it was packed and so much more welcoming. The New Inn was closed when we walked back past at 7.45 pm, of course it was.

We called in this pub during a wet windy walk up the river from Bolton Abbey. A great selection of local cask ales and a varied menu of pub meals. I had the steak and kidney pudding, mash and mushy peas. This was true gourmet quality, full of chunks of succulent beef in a rich gravy, encased in a suet crust. Lovely mash too. An additional boat of gravy was also supplied without an ask. My wife had a bowl of veg soup and a roll. Also excellent! We were made to feel very welcome by the staff/landlord, the pub was also nice and warm.

Not serving beer in half glasses in a village where most folk will drive to is economic suicide. The contrast in visible customers with the other pub a couple of hundred yards up the road proves the point. The landlords gobby attitude is the other reason. Having beer kept In wooden casks only is a great unique selling point . However, I'll not be visiting to experience that again. A pub with massive potential let down by the owner. Pleaee take this constructive criticism on board if you want to remain open this time next year.

We booked this room because we were attending a wedding in Appletreewick and really had no idea about the pub or surrounding area. WOW! A lovely warm welcome from Sarah and Graham, who invited us to join them and some locals who were having a drink in the bar (the pub wasn't officially open as it was a Tuesday) We were well before check in and Sarah offered for us to leave our bags with them and sort it out later. We were in a car so it was fine but I think this would be a really useful thing for anyone hiking the area. And it's such a beautiful area to explore starting with this charming village. We were in room 5 at the front. The bed was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom very sparkly, fresh and so clean with plenty of hot water. The mini fridge in the room had complimentary water and fresh milk. There were tea, coffee, biscuits and Jam Tarts which were a lovely touch. A great view over fields and trails and it was wonderfully quiet. A very comfortable night with great amenities in a beautiful, unspoiled area. And if you are a real ales fan - you will LOVE this place! (And yes they don't serve half pints...it's their pub their rules - buy a pint and share it, why the outrage???!!!!!)

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights over the bank holiday, the rooms were clean but the pillows were really hard. This pub only stays open until 7pm then you have to go to your room or go out. We did not see anyone eating here and they do not serve half pints of lager !! Breakfast is continental in your room which you have to eat on the bed as no table provided. You have paper bowls and plastic cutlery. We had our meals up the road at the next pub, it had much better atmosphere and polite staff and they served proper food. I would not return to the new inn again.

Went to the bar to order drinks and food. My husband wanted a pint and i wanted half. The proprietor told me that I could not have half as they no longer sold halves. At first I thought he was joking but apparently not, so I ordered a pint! I then ordered a toasted sandwich (£9.95)and my husband just wanted chips . The proprietor then told me that the sandwich came with chips, but we could not order a portion of chips separately! I ordered the sandwich and chips. I ate the sandwich and some of the soggy chips then went to pay. The proprietor then told me I hadn’t given him enough money as the chips were extra so Ive just paid £14.95 for a toasted sandwich and a small portion of soggy chips!!! Robbery!!!!

We stopped at the New Inn for some lunch before our holiday let was ready. I can honestly appreciate basic food but this really was quite terrible. Our group ordered toasties which were actually okay, if not slightly overpriced for what we were served. Paper plates with nothing else other than the toastie itself. We ordered chips as a side dish, which were very below par, our assessment was that they seemed like the previous nights chips reheated. The pub owners said they had recently re opened after being closed, but the lager did not taste good, as such, our friend complained and there was a replacement offered at no charge but overall the food quality was not reflective of the price

Visited The New Inn today as part of a family day out. After a lovely walk along the river, we were all ready for a tasty pub lunch. On arrival, we ordered drinks and were handed a clipboard of menus...one of which was coated in dried ketchup! We ordered our food which included 2 portions of scampi which was apparently served 'in a box' and cost £8 each.On arrival the food arrived in polystyrene chip trays - a huge disappointment. The chips were under cooked and hard and my husband had a chicken bite on his lunch and my daughter found scampi instead of chicken on hers.I would not recommend trying this pub for food - £40 for a meal we did not enjoy and coild not finish eating.

A group of us, staying at local camp site, booked in on a Saturday night for dinner. Sunny summer evening and the place was very busy with diners - families, large groups etc (many of which we we recognised from staying on the campsite). Menu was a relatively long specials board with usual home cooked country pub fare. Unfortunately food didn’t live up to the billing. Most dishes came with homemade chips which were really greasy. A number of our party ordered steaks m, which were poorly cooked, fat not even remotely rendered on them and again greasy. The orders about which one was cooked which way were all confused and it was difficult to distinguish between rare and medium rare price tag, had better tasting ones in a chain pub restaurant.. Nowhere near worth the £17. The lasagne was not bad, tasty but again quite greasy. Scampi was ordered by another member of our party which was described as the cheapest supermarket frozen scampi and over cooked.

We were camping at Mason's campsite just up the road while walking the Dales Way. The New Inn was a great place to take time out after a long day's walk, with great views across Wharfedale and beer in tiptop condition. The food is first rate - clearly home cooked and prepared by the landlady. The portions were very good and the veg was perfectly cooked, which is rare in pubs. Thoroughly recommend.

Definitely not somewhere you want to eat in a hurry ( we we're starving after our walk)! Incredibly slow service (& miserable staff). Some meals were lovely, basket meals a bargain!, but some were practically inedible and certainly not as they were described on the menu. Cold mash, rubbery fish..... eugh!!! It took so long, didn't have time or heart to complain before we left to avoid teatime traffic. Won't be returning!

What an amazing pub restaurant combining no nonsense comfortable clean accommodation this really is. This is the perfect example of what a country inn needs to be. The food is fantastic and for a change realistically priced. The beer, oh the beer, what a joy. Six guest beers on draught numerous other bottled and not like so many others chilled to the point of being a danger to sensitive gums, no the bottled beers are served at proper temperatures. The open fires are regularly serviced by the brilliant and extremely friendly staff no reasonable request is ever too much trouble. So if your thinking of a walking weekend with or without dog, do yourself a great favour and take in the new inn. Congratulations Phil and staff you've renewed my faith in what we used to enjoy In the dales, before the over blown priced star system was introduced to our beloved Yorkshire dales.

We walked up from Mason's campsite to find a cosy pub and a warm welcome for us and our Labrador. We ordered our food and settled next to the open fire with a drink. The food was tasty, we had steak and real chips, washed down with a drink or two and friendly conversation made for a lovely evening :-)

Meeting family and friends for a local wedding we booked a table for 9 here. The service was excellent, the food delicious, the staff helpful and the price very affordable. There is something to suit all tastes on the menu, our party included vegetarians, a child and a very fussy steak eater and all were happy with their food.

Large group of us on busy day. Staff were rude and abrupt but the food was fantastic. Very expensive children's meals at £7.50 a small plate but the adult meals were reasonable and worth the cost. The plate of seasoned vegetables was amazing

first of all this is a pub not a restaurant and it seems to get over shaddowed by the other pub in appletreewick , Both pubs are very good but for different reason I like both ,give the new inn a try it has good food and good beer and the staff are brill .

We camped at Howarth Farm (basic but less crowded) and walked to the New Inn for food both nights of our stay. Despite the lack of Daleside Blond, the main reason I had decided to come to Appletreewick and the New Inn, the food was very good. The Steak and Ale pie (a proper pie with short crust pastry) and the Gammon were both good.Shame about the beer!!!!!!!!!!!

Staying in this area on holiday & this pub was within walking distance, which was ideal. As well as a few evenings in the pub we also had Sunday roast lunch there. The food was very tasty & good value.
