Been waiting "ages" for them to reopen, and because they are new and not long open the menu is basic, but the food was good, plenty of beer choices, lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Just hope tye menu gets somewhere back to how it was before, ie :- goats cheese starters, fish n chips, and definitely needs desserts 🍨 🥧 🍦 🍡 🍧 . But all in all, we enjoyed our little trip out for tea.

We were staying at the nearby Tickled Trout hotel, which was fully booked for dinner. Found the New Hall Tavern on Trip Advisor, which is a short (and inexpensive) taxi ride from the hotel. The food was excellent, the staff friendly, and the location was especially beautiful as the sun set. Would recommend if you are staying nearby.

I dont do bad reviews but i just have to say for the past 2 weeks the food has been awful. Had a steak last week that was cooked perfect but the onion rings tasted of fish and there was oregano on my mushroom and tomato (why?) It over powered the meal. Today had beef pie which was burnt with lumpy mash my husband had fish n chips which was stodgey no crisp to the batter and minted mushy peas which isnt stated on the menu..mint with fish..no!! Really sorry used to love the food but it has annoyed me the prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down..its a shame.

Haven't been to this pup since 1967, that's not a misprint, l moved away from the area. Having gone on the 16thof this month and enjoyed the steak and ale pie , we decided to go once more the following week the 23rd, to our surprise the cost of the same dish ( steak and ale pie ) had shot up in price by almost £4:00 in a week , although there is 25% off on a Tuesday and Wednesday we felt it had been put on to cover taking it off, just a few pence short of £15:00 is a lot for steak pie and chips. Can't fault the pie just the price increase in over a week

Wow what can I say the food was fantastic the service was equally as good! Shame about the rude table that was in next to us. Came on bank holiday Monday. There was an old lady complaining and moaning about waiting 30 minutes for her food! The pub was packed! She was also racist and rude to the lovely young gentleman behind the bar trying his beat to deal with the complaint! He handled or superbly! Well done. I think he was called daniel. Booked a table for 4.15pm Sunday 16th August 2020. On arrival there is a hand sanitizer at the door with a sign at the door asking you to wait there. Nobody came to see us to our table so I decided to walk to the bar and mention we had booked a table. We were shown to our table and we ordered our drinks. After we had chosen what to eat the waitress took our order. When the food arrived it looked fine. Appearances can be deceptive. The waitress came over after a very short period and asked if everything was ok with the food. At that point we said yes as we had not really tucked into it. However it soon became apparent that the food was dire. The fish and chips were poor. The chips were dry and tough. The fish was in a thick batter. Tasteless. The steak and ale pie was dry and also lacked flavour and again the chips were tough and looked like they had been deep fried in old chip oil. Complained at the bar and asked the barman to look at what we had been served. We left most of our meals. He apologised for the standard of food and I got a minimal reduction on the bill. Really disappointed. The previous owners of this establishment served high quality food. Unfortunately that hasn't continued under the new ownership and we won't be returning ever again. Shocking.

Update... Returned this week for a meal, it is worth noting this is now in New ownership and the menu and food being produced differs vastly. The food is basic but ok... Lancashire cheese and onion pie had red cheese... Was suppose to come with gravy but didn't, my daughter asked for gravy and the lady serving came a cross as she was doing her favour '' shall I make you some.. '' well yes its part of your menu.... Not very welcoming and certainly not service with a smile, my beer tasted odd and credit to the bar man he poured another pint however that was also awful and it was a beer I drink regularly, it would have been nice for him to explain he had poured two and couldn't pour another which I would have accepted however he told me there was nothing wrong with it and tossed it down the sink then turned his back. The order took over ten minutes to put through the till... One positive was the food came out quickly and all was served hot. I would not return as the overall experience could have been much better and at its price point there are much better places locally, the food standard is definitely not what it was under the previous ownership. From summer 2019, past tenants... Great food, really pleasant staff but the last three occasions have resulted in over a forty-five minute wait for food.

After the long term landlord and landlady left in August, the pub has had a bit of a wobble, probably evidenced by other reviews. Since the back end of 2019 there are new people in the pub and they've got it back to where it should be. Good food, cracking steaks (even if they are from Yorkshire) and they're spending on updating certain parts of the pub too. Still very reasonably priced food and well worth a visit. Burns night was 'memorable' to say the least!

This was our first visit but we know the pub is under new ownership/management. The pub has a lovely roaring fire and the place is warm and welcoming throughout. There was a good menu and lots of tempting deals for each day of the week, which we will go back and sample. Some days had 2 for the price of 1 offers. Other days included Fish Fridays, special offers for seniors and spice nights etc. Plus there were times when children had free desserts. We had the Sunday roasts: the farm to fork local meat was tender and cut thickly. We had all the 'trimmings' and everything was hot, tasty and plentiful. We eat out very regularly and recommend this pub and its food very highly.

We had been to the Tavern a couple of years ago and having read some of the reviews written in August/September 2019 we returned with some trepidation. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It would appear that landlords of the poor reports have left and been replaced by a new landlord whose brief is to bring it back to its old standard. We had a most enjoyable meal- scampi- the tartare sauce being home made. We had to leave some of the meal as it was too much. The new landlord is extremely friendly and explained the recent "history" of the Tavern. I would go back without any hesitation and advise any prospective diners to ignore some of the recent comments as they are no longer appropriate.

We have been regulars at the NHT for the past 8 or so years and it was our favourite go to place for good home cooked food, ale and ambiance. We were so sorry to see Stella and Rob go but returned tonight to give it a chance, unfortunately I don't think we will be going back. The food lacked any 'love' and although the cheese pie was decent and the sausage and mash was tasty ( you can't go far wrong) the extra wasn't there. We laughed at the chopped iceberg lettuce on my sons plate (salad) which accompanied a deflated brioche bun with a dried hunters chicken on it. I'm not going to say anymore as we read the latest reviews and still decided to give it a go and I didn't have the heart to decline the loyalty card offered but sadly we won't be going back......end of an era really!

Went for Sunday lunch to the New Hall Tavern, one of our favourite places to eat out, to find that the pub is being run under new management. We thought we’d give them the benefit of the doubt and stay for our lunch as planned-what a huge mistake! The roast dinner was awful with Yorkshire puddings that looked more like pancakes, we was offered a full refund as the food was basically inedible. I have been going in the NHT for 20 years and have always loved its good warm atmosphere, all the friendly locals and the amazing food. However, this pub has recently been taken over by new management and I would advise anyone to avoid at all costs until the new manager John has left. Not only does he bad mouth the last landlord and landlady, staff and locals, I have heard he has now got rid of the one thing that was keeping this pub running - the chef Chris, who had stayed behind after the last owners left. Chris is a very talented chef and everyone loves his food - so to hear he has very unfairly been asked to leave by new management is very upsetting.

I come here quite often to eat here and the food is generally lovely however on this weekend's visit I had ordered roast beef dinner as I often do and it was lacking in gravy meaning it was quite dry, I asked if I could have a little bit extra and was told I would be charged £1.50 for the pleasure. I feel this is a bit extreme and a roast should come with as much gravy to your liking, so on this occasion I was very disappointed particularly being a regular customer. Also to add we had to wait an hour for our food and was not advised of this when we ordered, we would have been more likely to have ordered starters had we had known about the wait, particularly having a young child with us. We don't mind waiting if we are advised before hand and it did not appear to be at its busiest.

We last came here on a Sunday lunchtime after a visit to Blackburn, and coming back from Blackburn again - this time on a Saturday after a Royal School of Church Music festival at the Cathedral - we dropped in for an evening meal. Arriving about 5.20pm, we noted the number of 'reserved' signs on tables but found a spare one for two and I bought us a starter drink while we read the menu. One of the house specialities is home-made pies, and Sue selected the cheese and onion one from the main menu, while I went for the one on the specials board: chicken, mushroom and pepper. Going to place the order soon after 5.30 we were warned 'the kitchen doesn't open till 6: we can take your order now, though.' We decided to do that, and had another drink each ready for the meal. As it approached 6, customers started arriving for the reserved tables. At around 6.05, another couple who were there when we arrived had a meal delivered, and ours arrived at 6.10pm: brilliant timing. Both pies were excellent, and the generous serving of new potatoes (preferred by us to chips) were really good, as were the seasonal vegetables. Portion size was such that we didn't even look for a dessert menu. This will become a 'must stop at' if we've been to Blackburn or further east.

Back in the day, before we moved away, we visited the New Hall many times and always received a warm welcome and good food. Imagine our disappointment last week when we entered a non existing atmosphere and were greeted with...if you want food there is a half hour wait...with no apology or smile. We presumed the wait meant they were busy but if fact we discovered that only four people were waiting. When the food arrived the prawn cocktails consisted of rolled up lettuce pushed down a knickerbocker glory glass with prawns and sauce on top...served without cutlery and when we mentioned this we were given long spoons to eat with. The main courses were fish with batter which was wet and spongy on the underside surrounding slimy fish and droopy, colourless, tasteless chips. The curry was cut up pieces of chicken (hard and chewy) dropped into the sauce and chips as above but the rice was fine. When we complained to the waitress she laughed and when my husband said it was not funny she laughed more and walked away still laughing. We were sitting next to the windowsill on which there were 11 dead flies and there were cobwebs on the beams above. Enough said??

We were once more on our way back from a visit to a church, this time in Blackburn, on behalf of The Leprosy Mission (yes, two Sundays in a row!) We knew of The New Hall Tavern from trips to and from Blackburn some years ago, so decided to give it a try. Turning into the carpark at between 12noon and 12.30pm we saw quite a few cars there already, but we found a table and gave the menu a look. The Sunday lunch main offer is Roast topside or another varying roast: on checking, this was chicken that Sunday, so we both went for the beef - we don't do three courses any more so had no starter. I ordered one of the three real ales and Sue a red wine. We had chance to appreciate how good these were before our roast dinner arrived. Very generous portions of beef, two sorts of potatoes, two vegetables and an obviously in-house Yorkshire pudding, served with delicious gravy. The meat was excellent, and the vegetables good quality. After a suitable pause, we did look at the sweet menu: the Sunday roast package offered apple pie with a choice of what to go with it: we shared one portion between us with custard: and what a gorgeous portion! Obviously made inhouse, with real slices of apple, not puree, and very traditional custard. Service was fast and efficient, with a fast turnover of obviously regular customers clearly enjoying the food. The pricing is keen as well: the delicious and filling main course came it at under £10: what value! Alas, this is too far from home to be a regular haunt but it is on our repeat list for when we are passing from East to West Lancashire.

Saturday lunch for family of 4. Food was absolutely fantastic, great beer too and friendly service. Was a little quiet and lacking atmosphere but sure if serving some of the best pub grub we have had, it will soon get busier.

Best steak & ale pie ever - clearly homemade and bloody delicious:) The Other Half had sirloin steak, which I tried a bit of and that too was really top-notch, quality cut and done to a tee (medium rare) Great staff, v. helpful and lovely location. We'll go again.

Our monthly alternate Sunday lunch outing with church family led us to the New Hall Tavern after dining at other similar grade pubs in the Preston area, all with good reputative, and this is rightly numbered among them. I booked 19 covers so we ocupied most of the tables. The staff couldn't do enough to help us, given that we all ordered and paid separately. My dish of fish and chips was as good as anywhere, and all my fellow diners enjoyed plates that they struggled to finish! Certainly no complaints came my way. Would recommend for no frills English dishes cooked well at good prices with excellent service.

The food is really good and cooked to order. The decor is ok, not great, but if you want a good value for money experience of fairly basic food, the New Hall Tavern should be high on your list.

Thought we would give Sunday lunch a try here, what a good decision. Absolutely fantastic, nothing left on our plates at the end. Roast beef melted in your mouth and the Yorkshire puddings were delicious. 10 out of 10. Wish we’d of had room for desserts.

My friend and I visited here for the first time at lunchtime on Tuesday after reading the reviews. We were not disappointed. The young lady behind the bar was polite, friendly and helpful. I chose the fish pie which was full of fish and absolutely delicious. My friend opted for the beef and mushroom pie of which she said the pastry was light and tasty, there were good sized pieces of mushroom and the meat was so well cooked it just fell apart - super. We could not manage a dessert as we were full - but maybe next time as we will definitely be going again! Excellent value for money too.

Called in last night for a meal and once again we had superb home cooked food, non of the frozen chip and pre prepared in a factory food and we quite enjoyed watching a couple of local farmers having a beer and cheering along watching the tennis, I was not expecting that . This is a proper country pub. Keep up the great work we will be back soon.

Went for evening meal Sunday 9th July at 5.30pm. Have eaten here with family when we visit and tend to have the fish oie as it has to be one of the best I've eaten. The sunday roast beef was real good to as the wife ate the lot! Nice food and friendly staff. Keep up the good work and I'll be back on out next visit to family, and again will probablh have the fish pie. Even the kids menus are better than usual run of the mill kids meals, with proper fish rather than usual processed stuff found at many pubs.

Good beer, clean tidy, nice beer garden. Friendly staff and customers. Nothing not to like. Have not tried the grub recently but hear good reports. We should support pub's like this or they will disappear.

We've been driving past this pub for years but never visited. With the weather being so good this last weekend we went for a drive and found ourselves at the New Hall Tavern and although we did not want a meal we stopped off for a sandwich.Lovely fresh bread, filled generously with tuna/cheese,ham etc, great side salad with crisps and a bowl of chips. Watching people eat their meals, like Sunday roast, we will definitely be back for an evening meal. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and if you're ever passing it's well worth a visit.

Great fish and chips ! Great prices to , staff are always helpful and they have some great deals on . They even have meals for the local community who are struggling with the cost of living ! Would highly recommend! Monday Fish and chips for £4.99 who can complain at that ! Especially when it's freshly cooked infront of you !
