Visited on the weekend with my family for a light lunch. We ordered sandwiches for adults, they were small and ‘basic,’ the bread was dry and had obviously been sat around a while, for the price it was very disappointing. Our 2 children (5 and 3yrs) had kids meals, the macaroni cheese was a small disgusting gloopy mess that looked like dog food and the kids pizza was the same as a small frozen Tesco value pizza, edible but extremely poor value and very disappointing. Service friendly but slow. The whole experience was very poor. We won’t return again, which is disappointing as in the past it’s always been good. They’ve clearly made cuts and the food quality has suffered big time. We felt completely mugged off based on what we paid and won’t go back.

I regularly visit the New Forest Inn for dinner, the food is amazing and the staff are great. I can’t fault them, it’s my favourite place to eat in the New Forest. Their specialty weeks are always worth a visit, the recent Chinese new year and pie weeks have been excellent! The desserts are great and they offer a great range of gluten free food!

Good food, mixed service, quaint environment. We happened upon this lovely pub style restaurant. Gnocchi, nachos and sea bass for the two of. Ok portions, properly cooked, nothing fancy but tasty. Prices seem high for the overall product/service/ambiance. Overall, I might return but might also try some of the competition given the popularity of other places.

This place is an oasis if in New Forrest or like me camping in the Ashurst site which is all of 2mins walk away. Staff are fantastic and frieny, the food is lovely and what's more they sell both Tiny Rebel (Club Tropicana) and Beavertown (neck oil) beers on draft.... It doesn't get better. Factor in a beautiful beer garden and beautiful dining area and you get a pretty faultless pub!!! In short.... Make a stop you won't regret it. Ps. If your staying on the Ashhurat site you get 10% discount!!!

We were staying in the New Forest and wanted a traditional pub with real fire. This pub was perfect. Warm open fire, beautifully decorated for Christmas and the food was outstanding. Food was rather mediocre and the coffee was poor (tasted as if it was made with instant). Some staff seemed to be paranoid about Covid and were following some strange rules (one told us that he couldn't lift our drinks off the tray). We would have liked to sit outside but were told this wasn't possible, despite space being available.

We visited this restaurant for the first time as a group of 6 (3 generations) and we cannot recommend it enough! The most amazing food, and huge home made quality portions so everybody had a full tummy! A brilliant variety on the menu (and we are a fussy bunch with vegetarians!) We loved it so much, that we even returned the next evening for dinner again and all had something different! we have a 1 & 3 year old and the staff went above and beyond with them too! The most beautiful pub, with the kindest staff, and the BEST food. I would definitely recommend a visit (or 2) and we will definitely be back when we return to the New Forest! They even gave the children a little warm milk at the end which they absolutely loved. Thank you for contributing to making our holiday amazing :)

We visited here as a family on Mother’s Day. The restaurant is very pretty and has beautiful views. However the service was absolutely awful. Drinks orders was wrong 3 times to then have the barman bang a glass of Diet Coke ( not what I ordered) in front of me because that’s all he had and storm Off. We were never rude and just pointing out mistakes being made yet the staff cannot cope with any kind of errors nor do they know how to resolve them. Each time another staff member going off to resolve and never returning. I lost count of the amount of people it took to simply order drinks and dinner. Then when the dinner came it was wrong! I believe training is probably at fault here as even the manager who came over when I explained politely the issues didn’t manage to resolve anything. It really is a real shame as the food when it did come was absolutely delicious!!! And with the views it could be wonderful here! But as a family we won’t return as I can imagine how chaotic it will be in the summer if things don’t change.

A lovely pub without a doubt . Popped in for dinner on a sunny day with my two girls . First of all the staff looked so fed up no smiles. We found our way to the garden and found a menu . We ordered our food and waited . The food seemed to take along time. My youngest ordered sausage and mash and it looked ok. My eldest had chicken strips with chips she didn’t want the peas and there was no other choice of sweet corn or beans . The chips were rubbery like they had been re fried . The chicken was hard and over cooked . When the lady came with my meal I told her and she took my daughters food away to be re cooked . My meal was a pan fried chicken breast it was ok . Not very hot and not worth the £14 I paid . My self and my youngest had finished our dinner and we still had not received the re cooked dinner for my eldest and no one told us how long it would take . I gave up in the end and asked for my refund for that dinner . I received it but not very apologetic . Just didn’t seem very professional and the three members of staff didn’t look like they wanted to be there . Was disappointed when I left and would only return for a drink in the garden .

We booked here for our staff Christmas meal on a Friday evening. On arrival, it seemed nice enough- we were directed to a large table and given an arrival drink. We had ordered meals in advance as there were 10 of us, and as soon as we arrived staff were hassling us to have our starters. We were asked 3 times even though we had made it clear one of our party was running late (the restaurant was totally empty at this point and we had the table booked until 12 so it was completely unnecessary). The starters themselves were ok- the mozzarella dippers seemed to be the best choice. We were then hurried again to eat our mains. The turkey roast was quite nice and came with ample veg. Unfortunately, the fish option was ridiculously small (almost like a fillet cut into thirds) and the vegetarian burger was dry and served with fries that looked like they had been cooked days before. We asked to wait before desert so that some of the party could have a cigarette outside- but while they were out there, we were asked three separate times if we were ready to have them. One male member of staff even rolled his eyes when we pointed to them out of the window. When the deserts arrived, most of the brownies looked well sized and crumbly- just like you might expect- but one of the party’s brownies was undercooked and had the texture of chocolate sauce. We told the staff who took it away and replaced it with another of similar quality. A female member of staff rudely stated that that’s how they make their brownies, but it was clear from the other much more edible looking ones on the table that this was not the case. After desert we were offered teas and given mince pies which was a nice gesture. Despite this, I would not recommend this restaurant for a Christmas party.

The first impression of a Saturday meal here was a list of what they didn't have presented at the bar , then we were handed the menu , the bar man took our order and then said Table Number ?? , as we hadn't yet sat down this was not yet available , he seemed rather annoyed as we then had to find a table to let him know where we were sitting . The meals were very expensive , there was no roasts as they had sold out , and the service at the bar was to say the least grumpy . Once seated the meals were served quickly and the waitress who was much more pleasant , directed us to where the cutlery and condiments were . Really for the price you would expect these to be served with the food . The fish was generously portioned , and good quality , but for the price the chips were not that plentiful . An OK meal but over priced . There was no further service , no one checked it was OK or cleared plates or offered a pudding . We left unnoticed after eating , service could be better .

I had lunch here with a group, early in the season. I had the Christmas menu (2 dishes for £24) and chose Beef Cheeks with burnt leek, parsnip, roast potatoes, brussels, carrot, followed by Pear & Almond tart with brandy ice cream. Curiosity encouraged the choice and the meat was tender. The "burnt leek" failed to offer anything other than a poached leek in some sort of gravy. The rest of veggies were al dente (a litle too much so in the case of one of the two Brussels which shot to the floor). The pear tart was good; I had asked for a specific ice cream flavour which was elsewhere on the menu and willingly provided.A clean looking meal, somewhat unmemorable. Service was cheerful and helpful.

A lady in front of me said "I think we are invisible" she was with 3 friends and I was with 1 other. So the wait went on. When I returned to my table I said we were leaving and my partner said Thank Goodness as there were 2 children on the opposite who were clueless how to behave. Their parents were as bad!!! Heaven help us. 4 women at the bar were laughing stupidly and extremely loudly also!! This place seemed to be a home for ignorance and lunacy. What do you do when all this happens ? Was greeted when we arrived at the pub by a very aggressive and intimidating man and the woman with him shouting out of the window at my son accusing him of banging their car with his car door, which he hadn't. The man then came out and shouted in my face which I found extremely upsetting and was very frightening for my nine year old son. When I reported this incident to the staff and asked them to deal with the man they were not interested.

Carvery was OK, we've had better and worse elsewhere for similar prices. Large garden and patio area, along with a play area. Plenty of room for children to run and around in and not get in the way of others enjoying a drink/meal.

Have passed this pub a number of times over the last week I called in on the off chance they did proper pub-grub; looking at the web afterwards they are billed as a gastropub/ buzzy country inn/ upscale pub style menu, all of which describes it to a tee.Sausage, mash and gravy doesn't do justice to the creation I had put before me it was excellent. The chicken, ham & leek pie was fantastic.Top marks for the staff, the food and the atmosphere.

We came to The New Forest inn whilst on our way to longdown farm and didn't know what to expect, it was very busy but the staff accommodated us and we sat in the bar area, the decor is beautiful and there is a designated part of the bar that is dog friendly but you wouldn't notice as it's very clean, they offer dog treats too, and the beer garden is well presented and clean, they have a little play park for the kids and fields next door with horses in, the food was excellent quality, and we had the carvery, excellent selection of veg however there wasn't turkey but it wasn't a problem, you could tell that everything was well made and hand made instead of frozen... They source local meat and my son had a pork and cider sausage roll which was from a local butcher... Will definatly return and looks like it would be a great place to go for a romantic, quiet meal in the forest

I love fullers pubs and fullers beers that's got that out of the way On arriving here to an empty pub at 1200 ish got a pint of pride and my mate a pint of lager shandy , yeah some people My pride was served by a delightfull lady can't fault the service or the beer Looking at the changed arty farty menu we picked honey and mustard pulled !!! Ham with chips eggs and apple chutney That's ham egg and chips with a fancy twist Still never mind the meal arrived served by the delightfull staff Right and here lies the problem half a handful of dry chips , a dollop of chutney a portion of over cooked dried out Ham ??? Not sure it was even ham topped with a couple of reasonable eggs What an apology for a £10 plus meal I ate two mouthfuls before returning to the bar my mate ate half (he was hungry) the delightfull staff said sorry and gave me !! A refund for mine Result ruined lunch and mate not happy We had another beer and returned our glasses to the bar bye!! My advice go here for a pint but leave the ripoff food very very poor Richard fuller watch your email box message on the way Oh and this was not our first visit came back in sept 15 and had shoddy plough mans Will we come again who knows over to you new forest inn Great staff though

Very nice people indeed but sadly with such a large menu it is difficult to serve good quality food. We chose the day's supposedly fresh offerings but whilst they were passable it's a shame they did not meet "home made" expectations. Mushroom soup does not normally contain large amounts of semi cooked onions in a thick sludge. Chicken and ham pie had plenty of meat (some untrimmed) but in a very liquid source with a slice of puff pastry perched on the top! Presentation of each element in china dishes placed on a large plate was a bit airline like and as awkward! Why do pubs always feel they need such unnecessarily large menus? A simple menu of half a dozen well chosen quality dishes would be far more successful and be more profitable.

Having recently undergone heart surgery, and therefore not been able to get out, I was looking forward to a day out in the New Forrest with a bite for lunch. We spotted the New Forrest pub/restaurant, which looked the part, so we stopped. An obviously popular venue, led us to think that that also meant quality, big mistake. We selected our food from the menu, and went to the bar to order, to be told that that menu was not available, and given another. This menu only had main meals on it, with no sandwiches or other light lunchtime options, which although an irritation, understandable for a Sunday, but as the time was getting on we decided to stay rather than look for another place to eat. I ordered and paid for our selection, but after half an hour, and still waiting to be served with our meals whilst other tables who arrived after us had been served and left, I approached what appeared to be the supervisor/manager and I raised this. Miraculously whilst still waiting for a response, a young girl appeared saying our meals were now at the table. As it turned out just one was served, my wife’s fish cakes that were so over cooked they were inedible. Some 5 minutes later my smoked salmon salad appeared smothered in so much crème fraise the flavour of the fish was lost and left only the taste of the dressing behind. It was obvious that we had been forgotten, and the fish cakes had been reheated, and the salad rushed. I raised this with the same member of staff that appeared in charge, and received the comment, “inedible, oh well”. So I guess the answer is, that they are naturally so popular due to location and image, that the loss of one person’s passing trade is of no consequence, and as you pay before you eat, so no loss to the bottom line either. Be warned!

Stayed in New Forest area and visited this pub for food. Friday was fish and chips twice with bottle of wine for £25 which seemed ok. On other occasions I felt it was pricey for what was served as well as drinks. Maybe it's me being a Northerner being used to £3 or less a pint!

I've eaten here a lot over the years and it has always been good to okay.We were a party of six which booked late for a Fathers Day lunch. They managed to fit us in for 2.30.As you would imagine it was packed and after ordereing we were told it would be a one hour wait for food.. After 45 minutes our food arrived. It looked superb. Because they were so busy we were half expecting it to be thrown together. It was very well presented, and everyone really enjoyed their meal. So credit where it's due. Well done NF Inn on a mega busy day.

Called in with friends having not been there for some years since we used to go camping next door. There seemed to have been a recent change of management and the overall service was very efficient and friendly. The menu was definitely a bit above 'pub grub' and the four of us thought it great value for money compared to stand-alone restaurants that we've visited in our weekend jaunts this year. We'd certainly go back without hesitation.

We stopped here for a bite to eat on Sunday, Tripadvisor don't have the option to rate good rather than very good. It was good but I wouldn't say very good. We sat in the garden and were served with our Sunday roasts, which were really good, lovely big Yorkshire Puds! The staff were friendly and helpful. The garden needed a bit if attention and there was a lot of rubbish piled up by a wall which we noticed upon leaving, which didn't give a good impression. But we would eat there again as the food was good.

The best pub in the Forest. I have read all the other reviews and disagree completely with the comments. The food is excellent if not to everyone's differing tastes. The staff are friendly and hard working although only human therefore mistakes may happen. Finally, the music! It's once a week, if that. The bands are good and cater for all tastes. Instead of writing uninspiring reviews why not try talking to the Landlord and Landlady and express your opinion on what you like in your local pub and be more involved!
