New Akash in Chiltern

First ever visit on a very quiet Sunday night. So can't really comment on ambience. That said, the owner and his son (commercial pilot,just helping out for the evening) were very nice,polite and good to chat with. A short wait led to starters of excellent fresh crispy onion bhaji and a fresh paneer dish. A wonderful Bangladeshi chicken curry and veggie dhansak followed, alongside fluffy naan and perfect boiled rice. Happy to come again and happy to recommend

We visited on a saturday night. Excellent curries including distinctive bangladeshi specialities. Everything was obviously freshly made and very tasty. Recommended.

Took advantage of their excellent Tuesday set price buffet evening. First time visitors and we weren’t disappointed. Service was excellent and the choice on the menu was good with many options to meet the requirements of all guests. All 3 in my party had the starter, a main course, a side and either rice or naan as part of the offer and I think it’s true that we all struggled to clear our plates, so value for money was excellent. We are definitely going to go again and would thoroughly recommend the New Akash.

This was the worst Indian meal ever. I was with 4 friends and my onion bhaji starter was soggy and had a powdery taste. I ordered tandoori chicken with a vegetable curry. There were 2 pieces of chicken on a bed of sizzling onions. The chicken resembled 2 sparrows side by side and lacked any taste or substance. The so-called vegetable curry had the appearance and taste of mixed frozen vegetables in a plain gravy. Absolutely no curry taste at all. We all had very disappointing and poor quality meals at some expense (just shy of £190) The only good bit was the Cobra beer. We should have complained after the starters and cancelled the main meals. Never again. By the way I rarely give such bad reviews but this one deserves it.

This is a very cosy restaurant with a varied menu and exceptionally friendly staff. I ordered the Ayer fish bhuna and while I only rarely order fish (and fish curries more rarely still), I can honestly say it was one of the best dishes I’ve tried in a while. I’ll have to come back for another!

Food average . The restaurant is scruffy round the edges . Food trolley needs a good scrub and refurb along with the trays . This restaurants food is ok but the restaurant needs an overhaul . It’s a shame as could be great . Staff not particularly welcoming rushing you through your meal . Needs more thought

We've had 2 takeaways and 2 banquets from this great restaurant. As mentioned in a previous review, the great value Tuesday banquet lets you order from the main menu, not just a small selection from it so you can be adventurous, choosing something out of your comfort zone. The food is consistently delicious, the staff are lovely and attentive and friendly, without constantly hovering and interrupting your conversation (which I hate!). They also have a really well stocked bar with Campari and Sherry!!! We love you, New Akash, we'll be back!!!

We came here around 3 years ago for the banquet night and thought the food was really good. We don’t live too local but came back to the village and booked to come again before watching some live music at The George and I’m pleased to say the food is even better than I remembered! I can highly recommend the Murchi, it doesn’t have to be beef I asked for king prawns. Great service and so friendly!

We’ve been to a lot of Indian restaurants in the local area & I think this might just be our new favourite. We got a takeaway from here once & enjoyed it but this was the first time we’d eaten in. Everything we ate was delicious, the portions were generous & the staff were attentive & friendly. We will definitely be going back again soon!

Very fresh and well spiced Indian meal for two ordered and enjoyed. Tuesday night a Banquet offer is available so we introduced ourselves to New Akash by ordering from it. The full menu is available unlike some restaurants so great value. Recommend the sizzling spring lamb dish I had, subtly spiced and tender as. Sag Aloo not overcooked, Naan soft and fresh from the tandoor.. just opening from lockdown distance created , masked staff, everything clean and cared for. We will be back.

The takeaway service is excellent, had a lovely chat with the friendly waiters as they brought my order out. They were kind enough to include a free beer with the order which went down a treat with my meal. The food is cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. We were expected, the meal was well packaged and and still hot and freshly cooked when we got home. The restaurant was rearranged so that there were plenty of seats socially distanced.

Everything was nicest the lamb was tough and the okra wasn't cooked enough

It really pains me to write this review and I just hope it’s taken as feedback rather than criticism. The staff in this village curry house are lovely however the food really is below average. No matter what curry you order they all taste the same. The chicken tikka masala was watery, and tasteless. The chicken itself was dry. The Popadoms were over cooked and a strange dark colour. Unfortunately this wasn’t a one off, it’s been the same every-time we have tried it. I know they can do better and the food lacks passion. It’s a great shame. I hope they can pick their standards up because they are losing out to other curry places nearby. Please work on getting your flavours into the food, this would make it 10times better!

The butter chicken was very bland..... not like any butter chicken I have tasted before. There was no flavour. I would not order this dish again.

Love going to the New Akash, simply because the food and service is great. You may be lucky and meet the kind owner Foysol, if not then don't worry as all his staff are always very cheerful and friendly. The food is always fresh and full of wonderful flavours, so much so that I'd be happy to eat here any day of the week.

Lovely cosy atmosphere, all staff friendly and helpful and adhering to all current safety standards. (Masks, visors, gloves ect) Was shocked it wasn't busier on a Saturday night as the food is excellent. Food tastes fresh and portion sizes are good value for money. We also always order take aways from this restaurant.

Attended the new Akash with my girlfriend on a Friday night, the food was absolutely excellent, all tasted fresh and not oily in the slightest, the chicken Bhuna was out of this world and the onion Bhaji’s were hands down the best I’ve ever had, staff were friendly and chatty, would highly recommend a visit

Would really recommend this restaurant. We visited last night, everything was immaculately clean, the waiting staff were all wearing masks and gloves, the tables were all socially distanced. Amazing food and service. Well worth a visit!!

Really poor communication. Get told delivery is on its way and then 40 minutes later told it hasn’t because it’s ‘extremely busy’. Don’t appreciate being lied to on the phone.

We have been going to this restaurant for many years and the food is always very tasty and we always get a warm welcome. For a Saturday night in February every table was filled when we arrived at 8pm, always a good sign of a popular local Indian.

I was a regular of the New Akash for years and for some reason drifted away. A brother suggested it for a small family birthday catch up and we chose Tuesday "Banquet Night" (you must ask for the banquet offer).Our meal was fabulous and a Gluten Free diner was catered for really well, I would highly recommend this to others that may have drifted away.Many thanks

Well, not been here for a while. Tuesday night is Banquet night and used to be packed out and had to book well ahead. Last night, maybe five tables taken up and dead. The waiter came over to take our order and we told him we were here for the banquet evening, his face dropped and a roll of the eyes. Came back with the menu with a real surly face. Any way the starter arrived before we had a chance to sample the poppadum's and the main followed as quickly as we had finished. Great value but the food could be better, all tasted very similar, but the starter (chicken chaat) was excellent. All In all, good value but the staff could be a bit more friendly.

Regular visits to New Akash have proved that here is a great little restaurant with a large choice of really tasty food. The staff are friendly and very knowledgable, you can trust their recommendations! Well worth a visit.

The best Indian food I have had, no other Indian does the food quite the same no matter how many I try. They are good for eating in and take away, both just as great. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, great food, good portion size, never had any issues after many years eating here.

The staff are really friendly, service is excellent and never having to wait too long. The food is also very good, decent portion sizes, very tasty! Totally recommend.

Coming to Great Missenden for a tour of British children’s lit, beginning with Ronald Dahl, this was an amazing culinary delight. Light vegetarian samosas with raspberry jalapeño sauce, green(herbs) chicken masala, saag paneer (spinach with Indian yogurt cheese), garlic naan and biryani rice with mushrooms ALL OUTSTANDING... the combinations of spices was subtle, surprising and delicious. You will also find the staff warm and friendly if you ask for suggestions. We will eat there again tomorrow.

I ordered onion bhaji, chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala. Bhaji very cold, chicken tikka dry cold covered in something brown and the masala sauce had split with lumps in it. Probably the worst take away ever had. Totally inedible. I will not be going back.

Lovely food, lovely staff and relaxed, tranquil atmosphere. I was not made to feel like an afterthought as a solo diner and I spent a very pleasant hour there. H Go. It's really nice :)

Always have enjoyable meals here, the price is reasonable and the staff are always very friendly. They have some more interesting dishes than the usual range for Indian restaurants.

We tried New Akash for the first time a couple of days ago. It was a Banquet Night and we really could not fault the food and service.

We have been going to the Berkhamsted one for over 20 years. It closed 2 months ago and we were told by the owner, who has always been very nice, that there a sister restaurant in Great Missenden. We decided to try it 2 days ago. It was a Tuesday, so we were allowed to order the banquet offer, which consists of a starter a main and a side dish, and rice. I say 'allowed' because apparently you have to book in advance for this offer. Something I have never heard of before, and something that the Berkhamsted branch never did. The portions were rather small. The food below average. The lentils dish was so thined that it resembled broth. My green chicken had 5 small pieces of chicken, some of which I thought was a bit too much towards the pink side. Rice portions about half of normal ones. My husband's curry was the dryest beef curry I have ever tasted. So much so that the meat was almost disintegrated in its fibrous form. And the TRIED to charge for an extra person, so added another £12 on the bill, hoping we will not notice. But we did. And there was no apologies, or even pretending to be surprised when we showed the waiter. But the worse was yet to come. Four hours later we both still felt like we had cement setting in our stomachs. We couldn't digest the food. A couple of Underbergs helped and managed to sleep. But my husband hasn't felt good since. He's missed 2 days from work, and no much improvement with his insides. I understand that some people think the food there is good, and maybe it is if you don't go for the banquet option. But a restaurant that cuts corners like this it is not deserve anyone's money. We will never go again, and it's their loss because they lost 2 very good customers. Please don't go if you value your insides.

The food, service and prices are great here. We had a great curry and will be back. Well worth a visit. It’s a shame the building looks like it’s falling down from the outside. Some paint on the windows wouldn’t hurt.

Great for occasional boys nights out. Prices not scary, service impeccable, well behaved crowds, often larger groups.

Very welcoming staff and very good food. We had a lamb tikka masala and something new to us, a green masala. Both were tasty and with appropriate levels of heat/spiciness. Naan bread was crispy and fluffy in all the right places.

I like your food and menu. Normally your staff are courteous and friendly. However tonight I felt like I was some sort of criminal attempting to commit a fraudulent transaction. My contactless debit card was refused as a form of payment. I was practically man handled out of the restaurant and pointed in the direction of the local cash point. And told and I quote "it is not too much work for you" to get my cash. Meanwhile my food is getting cold in the restaurant. When I got back into the restaurant I was then told to sit and wait for my takeaway which was actually on the counter. I felt insulted, disrespected and and angry with my treatment. Needless to say I will not be eating from your establishment again. I'm still furious several hours after this incident.

Second night in great missenden and we went in for dinner. Great staff, food was absolutely top notch. Very very tasty and highly recommend it. Thank you

I popped in for an early supper with my daughter. The restaurant was empty but the tables were clean and laid so we ate alone. The staff were pleasant, friendly and attentive but not overly so. We were there for about an hour during which time two other tables filled up but it remained quite subdued. Food was hot and very tasty. It was filling, ample sized and nicely presented. Good meal.

We had a takeaway and it was delightful. All dishes were great. Was ready on time. Recommend the lamb jalfrezi! Was also reasonably priced. You won’t be disappointed!

Buena comida, servicio rápido, precios razonables, Ofertas Especiales martes, pero tienes que reservar de antemano. Amplia carta de Bangladesh. El servicio bien, pero no genial, el personal parecía un poco distante, pero muy eficiente. Nadie tomó el paraguas, que es un poco incómodo para mantener en una mesa!

A very disappointing take away meal which gets the restaurant a single star for their ability to cook pilau rice, a rather nice sag paneer and a passable, if dimensionally challenged, naan bread. The two small onion bhajis cost >£1.80 each and were a texture more than a flavour. The prawn purée was a handful of shrimps nestling in a stultifyingly bland sauce. The chicken jalfrezi was extraordinary in the toughness of the meat and the lack of spices and chilli heat. It was uncooked chicken, though admittedly breast meat, served in a brown gravy with a few desultory bits of capsicum thrown on top. The problem of being a monopoly within a village environment is that the quality of food and service are never challenged by competition which leads to a massive drop in standards. There cannot be much further for this restaurant to drop as it appears to be rock bottom already.Massive overpricing compared to London's curry houses and a very poor service crowned this experience and has lead me to heartily recommend going anywhere but the New Akash.

Takeaway- they forgot our poppadoms and we paid £5 for them. GrrrTo be fair NK probably would have given them to us if I had bothered to drive back to GM but we wanted to get on and eat whilst there food was hot so I did not even ask.Eating in- lovely. Polite staff and tasty food. I would recommend eating here. Book- it is always busy at weekends, at least!

I have been coming hear for some years and unfortunately do feel a decline in the service, it seems to be rushed and inattentive, before they always had a smile on there face and always were happy to help

Quite average Indian food. Though it states to be Indian, it's actually Bangladeshi cuisine promoted as Indian. Lot of room for improvement in food taste, quality and service. Still a long way for being authentic Indian food.

Very enjoyable meal (a lamb karhai) at a reasonable price. Service was prompt, if a little perfunctory....However there were only about 8 diners in there, so can't comment on what it's like when busy.I will definitely return.

Nice enough welcome. Only diner at 7:30!Few takeaway orders to keep the staff busy (3). Still took a few minutes to notice I was sitting there waiting to give my order. Then there was a problem with their tablet ordering system. Starter of sheekh kebab. Mildly spicy, nothing special. No mint sauce. Limp salad on the plate - why bother? Main chicken Bhuna was excellent- succulent chicken, nice spicing. Not the largest portion though. Naan needed another minute or two- very stodgy and covered in sesame seeds and ghee(?).

We decided to go our for an Indian meal and chose New Akash because it was somewhere we had been in the past. I didn't have the phone number so went online. There was no phone number and I had to make an online reservation. I was told I would get a reply in 30 minutes. 45 minutes later I rang "customer service" who gave me the number. There was an off-hand response that they had a table. I should have walked away then. On arrival we were shown the table and had reasonable service from the waiting staff. The food was very disappointing. The chutney and yoghurt accompaniments to the poppadums was fluid and tasteless, the main dishes were poorly presented and had no garnish - not even some chopped parsley or coriander. The sauce of the prawn tikka mossala was not good. I wonder if it had been brought in?We will need to look further afield.

Often have a takeaway from here and it is always first class and very good value for money. The dining experience is also very good with crisp white table linen and excellent food and friendly staff.

Visited here with the wife. Food was good and no complaints about the service or price. Another good Indian restaurant but didn't blow me away.

I have lived near to this restaurant for 4 years and have heard many good things, sadly this is not what I found. I'd finished golf and decided to grab a takeaway on the way home. Normally I'd go to one of the best Indian restaurants around in beaconsfield old town but decided to give this place a try, I wish I hadn't. To be fair the service was brilliant, very polite and professional this is where my good points end. I ordered a simple rice, main (korai lamb might be spelt wrong apologies) naan and poppadums. Let's start with the flat beer I was served whilst I waited, we could try and put this down to the glass but I've had many a cobra draught and this was nowhere near the standard it needed to be, it was cold and that was about it for highlights. My food was brought out to me and I drove the 1 mile home. Unpacking my food I found the rice to be cold and clumpy as if left whilst the main was cooked. My korai was simply terrible, again when trying a new Indian restaurant I'll always go for this dish as then it's fairer to compare varying places. The lamb was so tough it pretty much offered to fight me twice, it lacked any flavour and was bland as possible. It's supposed to be a medium spice, there was nothing to it at all, swimming in grease and far too many onions. My naan, I requested a cheese and chilli naan, in other places the cheese and chilli is found within the naan, this place simply melted and sprinkled on top and burnt the bottom, this may just be how they make them but I found this horrible. Finally my poppadums, I've never been to a restaurant or takeaway where you've ordered poppadums and are given no dips at all!! This again may be how they do things but surely there should be some offer of "Would you like any dips with the poppadums?" So as to bring this to the attention of the guy / gal ordering from the car with no menu to hand. All in all i pretty much threw this dinner away and got myself fish and chips from the prestwood chip shop which as always was pretty good. I may well have gone on a bad day, perhaps eating in will be different (food wise), but I have my doubts.Hope this helps when deciding on your takeaway for an evening.
