Needs some quiet music playing, otherwise brilliant

Not a great experience ,had fish & chips, fish was so crispy it was so hard and chips were not cooked, we did complain but they couldn't of cared less, disappointed

Came here with my boyfriend the other evening for food & drinks, I must say there was one particular barmaid who came across very unfriendly and rude- the older bar maid was lovely and helpful though! - however I would suggest sacking the younger girl. Or perhaps retrain her in customer service, It’s not on when we paid a fortune. Shame because the pub is lovely, as is the food.

Lovely food, service was great. Huge pub, very busy, but we didn’t book and still got a table early Saturday evening.

This is a lovely venue, with very pleasant, attentive staff, including the landlord. Service is quick and accurate and the food is well prepared and fresh. The prices are reasonable. There is plenty of seating, inside and out. There is a good menu, if you are a meat eater. The menu for the increasing numbers following a plant-based diet, however, is minimal, with only a couple of options. This is a real shame. I think that a wider selection here would pay dividends. In all, this is a good old pub, to enjoy.

Th meal I had today was very poor - two rather overdone fish cakes and a salad which I didn't touch (looked old tired) Have had other meals here that have been very nice indeed - don't know what went wrong today. I was disappointed and felt that I had paid a lot for a meal that I did not enjoy at all.

This is the second time we have been here. What a beautiful place. The staff are so attentive and friendly and the food is excellent. Tom was particularly brilliant. I had mussels to start with and my friend had King Prawn skewers. Both were full of flavour and excellently presented. The mussels came with small strips of bacon and lean in a lovely white sauce. The bread was knock out! For main I had shredded , crispy beef salad which again was delicious , possibly a little too much sauce for me but very tasty. My friend had the fish cakes . There were two of them and she thoroughly enjoyed them. We finished off with an Irish coffee. This is our new favourite place when I come to visit. Thank you guys . Keep it up.

Lovely pub. Staff and locals were friendly, food was excellent and atmosphere was great. Perfect place for dinner after a day at the crag!

The food here was really good, so tasty! I enjoyed the range of options for all three courses, particularly because it is a seasonal menu that changes all the time. It's a lovely historic pub with real character. Not too noisy, but enough people in there to create a bit of atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning already!

This is an excellent, spacious gastropub in Eridge, just a short drive out of Royal Tunbridge wells. There are plenty of tables inside, and out on the terrace for alfresco dining, or just a drink. In true country pub style they are dog and family friendly and have high chairs and food options for children. They have a comprehensive menu with meat, veg and pesca options. We have been there many times and all the food we have tried, especially the braised lamb and porchetta, were delicious. The service is prompt and attentive. The pub has a large carpark so there are always plenty of spaces including convenient disabled places. The pub is in a beautiful old building and the decor and original oak beams create a warm cosy ambiance- particularly with a real fire burning. In my opinion this is one of the loveliest traditional country pubs in the area. Try it soon. You will love it.

Yesterday we had my mothers wake at the Nevill Crest and Gun . It was excellent. The staff were exceptional, really kind and efficient, we were very well looked after . The food was perfect and there were lots of compliments for the amazing sausage roll and the coffee cake . We had the conservatory room to ourselves with lovely views over the garden . We like the Nevill Crest and Gun ,one of our local pubs it’s great the food and service are always good .

I had the Cheese, Onion & Potato pie on the 11th March my birthday & was one of the best meals i've had. Roasted veg was just delicious too! Staff where lovely as always. Cant wait to for my next vist. From a very happy customer Marianne

What looks like it should be a lovely country pub, it’s actually a complete disaster when it comes to comfort. There are no comfortable seats at all. It is 100% restaurant, with a couple of small bar tables. If you don’t want to eat, you will stick out like a sore thumb. The staff are rude and make you not welcome, and seemed to take offence that I wanted to sit quietly and have a drink on my own at a table where they could, they would’ve thought, sold food to people. They asked if I’d like to sit at a smaller table, my reply being yes of course, but there were no smaller table to sit at. I’m not sure what they wanted me to do. They also don’t take American Express. Avoid unless you want to spend bundles on food.

The best food I've had in a long time. Saturday night, 8 people and the service were incredible. Clearly well managed, well trained, and your cooks, please make sure you're paying them well. They aren't people you want to lose! They deserve it, the food was out of this world ❤️ 100% will be returning when I'm next in the area!

The guy behind the bar (chequered shirt) probably the owner, was very lovely with his service. We chatted about the Guinness shortage. He had Guinness, which was important 😁.

We've been here in the past and always had good food and service and this time was no exception. Plenty of choices on the menu for all. Very clean everywhere, great friendly staff, a large selection of wines and spirits etc, we'll be visiting again in a few months time.

Always enjoy meeting friends here. Food always tasty from a light bite to a 3 course meal. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Beautiful log fire burning when it's cold giving a warm atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend.

Went in for lunch on Saturday, booked on the website, great atmosphere, nice fire, wonderful food and beer, helpful and friendly staff, highly recommended.

Here again to meet a close friend for a drink so hadn't booked a table. Limited space at the bar but Tom, the manager, went out of his way and created a little space for a table for 2 so we could sit and chat. The staff are just SO helpful they really make this cavernous place feel special.

Much bigger than it looks. Food was excellent when it arrived which took a very long time. Didn’t worry us we had much to talk about but if you were in more of a hurry it would have been a pain. No staff seemed to have an area and being in a corner we obviously got overlooked

Lovely food with great service 😋

Shortly after seven of us arrived for lunch yesterday, one of our friends - Andrew Wood - became unwell and we sent him home by taxi shortly afterwards. I'm happy to report he's absolutely fine today, and has asked me to say a huge thank you to Michelle for taking care of him so well and so patiently. She managed to find a health profession to help, and was wonderful, so thank you to her too from the rest of us, what a star! Really charming and welcoming staff, good service, lovely atmosphere, nice table and good food. They were happy fir us nit to hurry and to enjoy a very leisurely 3 hour lunch

Prebooked/pre-order only menu for a table for 3 adults for Boxing Day. Main meal very disappointing, rock hard sprouts and turkey wasn't great. The nut roast had no crunch factor of nuts, can only think they were ground nuts and it was tasteless. Deserts were good, however the mincemeat frangipan was stone cold, couldn't be bothered to ask for it to be warmed due to slightly sullen waitress. We were disappointed because previous visits the lunch menu has been tasty and value for money whereas this certainly wasn't.

We've been to this pub a few times since moving to the area, for lunch and dinner - it's a little more expensive than some others in the area, so we save it for "best". Last visit was a couple of weeks before Christmas 2024 - the pub is so cosy, with open fires, low ceilings, beams and was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Food is excellent, although as a veggie my choice is usually somewhat limited (I don't count the "fake meat" as a veggie option - what veggie wants to eat something that is designed to taste of meat? Weird idea all round), anyway, they are always accommodating if I want a starter plus a side etc instead of a main. Desserts are awesome! There is plenty of parking out the back, and also seating in a variety of areas inside including a conservatory, and a heated terrace.

I went with a big group of friends for the Christmas dinner menu. I had the pork and the cider-braised pork ribeye & mincemeat and almond Bakewell tart. The pork dish was very bland; if it hadn't been for the small amount of applesauce on the side of the plate, the rest would have been tasteless. It also felt like a kids portion; I could eat three times the amount on the plate easily, and I don't eat big meals. The tart was just hard and boring, with no real effort it making it. Mince pies from the supermarket would taste better. Still hungry when leaving, I got a kebab on the way home, which was far more tasty. A two-course dinner for £31.95 was a joke.

Very nice pub with a nice atmosphere

We visit this place fairly regularly and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. We don’t usually go out for Christmas Lunch but we all wanted a break this year so decided to try it here and we’re so glad we did. We felt they really couldn’t do enough for us, food was great, first round of drinks on the house, lovely surprise that there were presents on the table for the kids and not just cheap as chips tat but lovely gifts that will actually be used! There was also colouring and a proper pack of pencils, crackers, little boxes of chocolates. We really felt blown away by how much effort had gone into making it special. Thank you we had a great time!

Wonderful! Came here for lunch on christmas day and the whole meal was completely lovely. The food was stunning, as was the service. On a busy christmas day the food all came out fast and delicious, drinks were prompt, and as 2 of our party weren’t able to come, the staff were incredibly kind and gave us a parcel of cheeses and wine. Massive shout out to Max and Tom who were both so kind and helpful. Massively recommend!

Excellent venue, food and staff!

My friend and I Reguarly visit here as it’s halfway for both us to meet. We’ve yet to have a bad meal in the 3 years we’ve been visiting. It’s cosey in the winter and gorgeous in the summer in the vast garden. Today we had the porcetta ciabatta and quiche both amazing ! Can’t wait for the next visit .

Staff were friendly as always and really accommodating to us as a 6 months old baby with us. They even offered to keep my husband's meal under the hotplate to keep it warm while he entertained her, we have never had such a thing offered before and little things like that really make a difference. The pub also looked gorgeous with all the Christmas decorations and the having the fires going is always a plus for me! Food was excellent too!

The staff here are superb at their job, just the right amount of attentiveness ! We will be back in the new year. Thank you all for a lovely experience 💕

Thoroughly recommend this place ... as a recently diagnosed coeliac sufferer they were able to provide a range of gluten free options

Took a chance ( see my review June 24) hoping that a Sunday lunch would be better. Top class ...took full notice of request on my booking. Was greeted by Tom who answered my queries regarding dietary requirements, nothing was too much trouble. I was early and without asking he found a comfortable seat for Mum and made her feel very special. A table of 9 with a very unorganised ordering from everyone was treated well by an efficient server. Tom even came to check that Mum had been able to order exactly what she wanted. Food was good. Coeliac diet recognised and well catered for. We only visit twice a year, but will definitely be back! Thank you Tom, you really made everything so easy. Much appreciated.

A large party of us came here for dinner and were so impressed. The menu options were vast and I always struggle to pick when here due to so many options! Our younger ones were provided colouring papers and one of the staff took time to say hello to them and get to know them which we found very touching and caring and really added to the experience. Food was a good price and we also appreciated vouchers we were given to encourage our return. A great business plan as we definitely will be back! Many thanks to all the team and keep smashing it.

Absolutely lovely restaurant. Warmly greeted on arrival, served promptly and the food was fantastic! Our server, Tom, was so friendly. If we didn't live so far away we'd be regulars here.

I try to see the positive in everywhere we go unfortunately that can’t always happen. My husband and I were passing yesterday and thought we’d stop for a bite to eat. It was around 11:45am. On entering the music was on, as was the fire - unfortunately we waited by the bar for a good 5-7 minutes before a member of staff (male) approached the bar area (looking at his phone). When he finally acknowledged us, I asked if they were serving food his response was not till 12 o’clock. My husband and I looked at each other and decided it was best to go somewhere that does want our custom. So unfortunately I can’t comment on food but the service and ignorance of staff member really let it down. The building looks beautiful, such a shame we didn’t get time to experience it.

An excellent place to eat. The food was delicious and the staff really welcoming and friendly. The young lady who looked after us was amazing. The menu offers a wide variety of choice, in my party of ten we had vegans, allergy sufferers and all felt they had a good choice. Would definitely come back again.

Very good service and nice atmosphere

Food was mostly average to good. No vegetarian options, only two vegan ones. Neither particularly amazing. It wasn’t bad, but could have been better given the prices being charged. Lamb shoulder was a bit fatty, but otherwise ok. Service was ok, but inattentive at times and not hugely welcoming or friendly… that side really needed improvement. I might come again another day and see if they’ve improved, but most likely will go elsewhere for our next meal out.

Been visiting for the last 27 odd years, my most recent visit for my friends birthday. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Cosy feel with a great area for the children in the summer

We stopped off for lunch, neither of us have been here for a couple of years so wanted to see what it was like now. I had the beer battered cod and chips which was delicious, mushy peas and tartare sauce rounded it off perfectly. My partner had the steak, which at nearly £35 was mediocre. Service was great, the pub was really busy, we had our dog with us so as it was a sunny day sat outside. We would go back, and try some nibbles from the menu.

Haven’t been to this pub for years but so glad we did this evening. Was the best burger I’ve ever had!! Service was great and friendly staff. Will definitely not leave it so long next time! 10/10

Relaxed atmosphere, good beer and a nice garden

We were recommended the Sunday roast by friends. I knew the TNC&G so had high expectations. When we arrived the pub was busy with maybe 100 covers, which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly and attentive. All looking very promising. Until the food arrived. The potatoes were pale with a soapy texture, not crispy, the veg was overcooked and my lamb overcooked and tasted like it had been under a hot lamp for most of the day. We ordered a side of roasted honey glazed carrots and cauliflower cheese. The carrots were just boiled with honey poured over and the cauliflower cheese sauce was thin and light on cheese. Probably one of the most disappointing roast we’ve experienced and at £26 for my lamb I expect a much higher standard. A shame, because it’s a beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. We will return but definitely not for a Sunday roast.

Went here without a booking on a Saturday evening. It was busy, but they found us a table. Very good and friendly service. Good food and reasonable choice of ales. This place has been through several incarnations over the years, this is definitely one of the better ones!

A gorgeous, cosy pub. We enjoyed a fantastic meal in very atmospheric surroundings, having walked up from a local campsite. The friendly, helpful manager and his lovely staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time. Nutella stuffed doughnuts!!!

Lovely atmosphere for a Sunday pub lunch! Service was great, we were in the bar area as we had two dogs so we ordered everything through the bar behind us but it was quick and friendly. The food was good, I had the vegetarian moussaka - the bread it came with was slightly stale but probably a one off. Lovely food otherwise!

We knew we had made a good choice as soon as we arrived. Friendly greeting, dogs welcome and a lovely table with plenty of room for 4. Menu was excellent, service first class and the food was of a high standard.

This is a lovely old pub which still has regular drinkers at the bar in the evening. The staff are are efficient and friendly. Great atmosphere. Food is above average for a chain of pubs. Would recommend.

We visited the Nevill for dinner in August 2024 whilst staying at a nearby campsite. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Not only did they accomodate a large booking of 13 and a dog, but they were kindly able to adjust it at late notice, saving us from the rain. The pub has a fantastic interior, it has a decent selection of cask ales, and the food was good.

Sadly food seems to be going downhill slowly, portions getting smaller, tasteless and prices going up. Shame as it's a lovely pub. Had banana waffle for dessert. Waffle hard and cold, certainly not been toasted and served with a quarter of a banana for the pleasure of parting with over 7.00! Also had sticky toffee pudding, that tasted like a cold lump of treacle. Will not eat here again.

Went here many many years ago and it was bad. Pleased to say on our most recent visit the food was great and good service too. We will be returning as my in-laws go there regularly and enjoy it too.

This spot is perfect for any and every ocassion. I barely sat down and already was offered drinks ans the a couple minutes later the menu was presented. This was truly a great experience and had great atmosphere and the hustory of the pub is really intriguing. Manager was well presented had a fun humor and a very hard worker.the other staff were also very good.

Don’t go on a Sunday. Meat not chewable, potatoes and vegetables cold. A bad Sunday roast if that’s what you want. Other menu options were slightly better. Too many covers and not enough chefs, plenty of serving staff. They were very pleasant.

Not impressed with the food considering the high prices. Bhaji starter was overcooked and almost too hard to east. Sunday roast veg was under cooked and too hard to chew. Some roast potato's over cooked and again too hard to eat. Meat was good, the rest very disappointing. Won’t be going back.

The venue was lovely with great gardens for the kids to enjoy... we were there for a birthday party and the venue had kept an area for us to use which was well organised. Drinks were more expensive than other venues I've been too but speaking to the locals the prices were consistent with other similar pubs. Those who tried the food said it was good so can't complain on that front... all in all a great venue and location.

Expensive, 1J2O, 1 glass of wine and 1pint of lemonade and orange juice, over £18.

We always get a warm welcome here, the service is friendly and attentive and the menu is always varied and interesting.

The atmosphere was great, and I’d definitely come back for a drink. However, the food felt a bit overpriced for what it was, and the steak didn’t quite live up to the £32 price tag. Everything arrived very quickly, and made us think it had just been reheated. Unfortunately, my partner and I didn’t feel too well the next day, though I’m not sure what in particular caused it. I’ll be back for drinks, but probably not for the food.

Great place to stop for relaxing meal

We called at the very last minute on Saturday night for a table of 14 including children and a dog which was already a longshot, as we'd been let down by another establishment and they couldn't have been more accommodating - they got a table ready within 30 mins and with such a welcoming 'can do' attitude. Everything was superb from the food, to the service and even how great they were with the kids. Couldn't fault them at all and we will definitely be back. This was my second visit and it was just as amazing for a table of 4 for lunch last week too. Great place!

Great location, nice pub, however, the food isn't what it used to be and is now overpriced, real shame won't be back for awhile. Only giving a 2 star due to the overpriced food.

Food was perfectly OK but didn’t live up to promise of menu, even in simple details. A caramelised banana wasn’t caramelised. An Arabian salad was just a standard one. More attention to detail needed.

After stopping here before we thought we would go again, well in someways we wished we hadn’t. While the food was ok the service has put us off completely. We did not feel welcome, and like it was a trouble to take our orders of food and drinks! The staff that served us never smiled once or made us feel like we was being a pain for them. I understand that it’s a busy service on a Sunday and you may have had a long shift already but everyone that comes in your pub needs to made to feel welcome to ensure a return! It’s a shame as this pub is a beautiful setting and have had a nice time before.
