I try to see the positive in everywhere we go unfortunately that can’t always happen. My husband and I were passing yesterday and thought we’d stop for a bite to eat. It was around 11:45am. On entering the music was on, as was the fire - unfortunately we waited by the bar for a good 5-7 minutes before a member of staff (male) approached the bar area (looking at his phone). When he finally acknowledged us, I asked if they were serving food his response was not till 12 o’clock. My husband and I looked at each other and decided it was best to go somewhere that does want our custom. So unfortunately I can’t comment on food but the service and ignorance of staff member really let it down. The building looks beautiful, such a shame we didn’t get time to experience it.

An excellent place to eat. The food was delicious and the staff really welcoming and friendly. The young lady who looked after us was amazing. The menu offers a wide variety of choice, in my party of ten we had vegans, allergy sufferers and all felt they had a good choice. Would definitely come back again.

Very good service and nice atmosphere

Been visiting for the last 27 odd years, my most recent visit for my friends birthday. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Cosy feel with a great area for the children in the summer

Food was mostly average to good. No vegetarian options, only two vegan ones. Neither particularly amazing. It wasn’t bad, but could have been better given the prices being charged. Lamb shoulder was a bit fatty, but otherwise ok. Service was ok, but inattentive at times and not hugely welcoming or friendly… that side really needed improvement. I might come again another day and see if they’ve improved, but most likely will go elsewhere for our next meal out.

We stopped off for lunch, neither of us have been here for a couple of years so wanted to see what it was like now. I had the beer battered cod and chips which was delicious, mushy peas and tartare sauce rounded it off perfectly. My partner had the steak, which at nearly £35 was mediocre. Service was great, the pub was really busy, we had our dog with us so as it was a sunny day sat outside. We would go back, and try some nibbles from the menu.

Haven’t been to this pub for years but so glad we did this evening. Was the best burger I’ve ever had!! Service was great and friendly staff. Will definitely not leave it so long next time! 10/10

We were recommended the Sunday roast by friends. I knew the TNC&G so had high expectations. When we arrived the pub was busy with maybe 100 covers, which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly and attentive. All looking very promising. Until the food arrived. The potatoes were pale with a soapy texture, not crispy, the veg was overcooked and my lamb overcooked and tasted like it had been under a hot lamp for most of the day. We ordered a side of roasted honey glazed carrots and cauliflower cheese. The carrots were just boiled with honey poured over and the cauliflower cheese sauce was thin and light on cheese. Probably one of the most disappointing roast we’ve experienced and at £26 for my lamb I expect a much higher standard. A shame, because it’s a beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. We will return but definitely not for a Sunday roast.

Relaxed atmosphere, good beer and a nice garden

Our first visit and we were not expecting the quality of the food. Exceptional.

Went here without a booking on a Saturday evening. It was busy, but they found us a table. Very good and friendly service. Good food and reasonable choice of ales. This place has been through several incarnations over the years, this is definitely one of the better ones!

A gorgeous, cosy pub. We enjoyed a fantastic meal in very atmospheric surroundings, having walked up from a local campsite. The friendly, helpful manager and his lovely staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time. Nutella stuffed doughnuts!!!

Lovely atmosphere for a Sunday pub lunch! Service was great, we were in the bar area as we had two dogs so we ordered everything through the bar behind us but it was quick and friendly. The food was good, I had the vegetarian moussaka - the bread it came with was slightly stale but probably a one off. Lovely food otherwise!

We knew we had made a good choice as soon as we arrived. Friendly greeting, dogs welcome and a lovely table with plenty of room for 4. Menu was excellent, service first class and the food was of a high standard.

This is a lovely old pub which still has regular drinkers at the bar in the evening. The staff are are efficient and friendly. Great atmosphere. Food is above average for a chain of pubs. Would recommend.

We visited the Nevill for dinner in August 2024 whilst staying at a nearby campsite. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Not only did they accomodate a large booking of 13 and a dog, but they were kindly able to adjust it at late notice, saving us from the rain. The pub has a fantastic interior, it has a decent selection of cask ales, and the food was good.

Sadly food seems to be going downhill slowly, portions getting smaller, tasteless and prices going up. Shame as it's a lovely pub. Had banana waffle for dessert. Waffle hard and cold, certainly not been toasted and served with a quarter of a banana for the pleasure of parting with over 7.00! Also had sticky toffee pudding, that tasted like a cold lump of treacle. Will not eat here again.

Went here many many years ago and it was bad. Pleased to say on our most recent visit the food was great and good service too. We will be returning as my in-laws go there regularly and enjoy it too.

We took two friends with us who came from the United States. All four of us thought the entire experience was first class. Thank you.

This spot is perfect for any and every ocassion. I barely sat down and already was offered drinks ans the a couple minutes later the menu was presented. This was truly a great experience and had great atmosphere and the hustory of the pub is really intriguing. Manager was well presented had a fun humor and a very hard worker.the other staff were also very good.

Not impressed with the food considering the high prices. Bhaji starter was overcooked and almost too hard to east. Sunday roast veg was under cooked and too hard to chew. Some roast potato's over cooked and again too hard to eat. Meat was good, the rest very disappointing. Won’t be going back.

Don’t go on a Sunday. Meat not chewable, potatoes and vegetables cold. A bad Sunday roast if that’s what you want. Other menu options were slightly better. Too many covers and not enough chefs, plenty of serving staff. They were very pleasant.

The venue was lovely with great gardens for the kids to enjoy... we were there for a birthday party and the venue had kept an area for us to use which was well organised. Drinks were more expensive than other venues I've been too but speaking to the locals the prices were consistent with other similar pubs. Those who tried the food said it was good so can't complain on that front... all in all a great venue and location.

Expensive, 1J2O, 1 glass of wine and 1pint of lemonade and orange juice, over £18.

Very welcoming and lovely building

We always get a warm welcome here, the service is friendly and attentive and the menu is always varied and interesting.

The atmosphere was great, and I’d definitely come back for a drink. However, the food felt a bit overpriced for what it was, and the steak didn’t quite live up to the £32 price tag. Everything arrived very quickly, and made us think it had just been reheated. Unfortunately, my partner and I didn’t feel too well the next day, though I’m not sure what in particular caused it. I’ll be back for drinks, but probably not for the food.

Lovely place to stop and have a drink, but I would not recommend the food.

Great place to stop for relaxing meal

We called at the very last minute on Saturday night for a table of 14 including children and a dog which was already a longshot, as we'd been let down by another establishment and they couldn't have been more accommodating - they got a table ready within 30 mins and with such a welcoming 'can do' attitude. Everything was superb from the food, to the service and even how great they were with the kids. Couldn't fault them at all and we will definitely be back. This was my second visit and it was just as amazing for a table of 4 for lunch last week too. Great place!

I went with a group of friends in the evening . We were welcomed and got seated. Service was excellent and food was wonderful . We will come back again soon . Highly recommended .

Great location, nice pub, however, the food isn't what it used to be and is now overpriced, real shame won't be back for awhile. Only giving a 2 star due to the overpriced food.

Food was perfectly OK but didn’t live up to promise of menu, even in simple details. A caramelised banana wasn’t caramelised. An Arabian salad was just a standard one. More attention to detail needed.

After stopping here before we thought we would go again, well in someways we wished we hadn’t. While the food was ok the service has put us off completely. We did not feel welcome, and like it was a trouble to take our orders of food and drinks! The staff that served us never smiled once or made us feel like we was being a pain for them. I understand that it’s a busy service on a Sunday and you may have had a long shift already but everyone that comes in your pub needs to made to feel welcome to ensure a return! It’s a shame as this pub is a beautiful setting and have had a nice time before.

Not being in ages food was awful friendly staff well overpriced for what actually it is the quality for the price no way Nice new terrace at back would come back for drinks not food you need a new chef, my mate said it wasn’t great too, Tom do you think is this acceptable to serve customers! Didn’t receive meal vouchers too!

Tom and team are a great bunch, friendly welcoming, and always working to ensure you enjoy your visit. Foods great, beers cold and the open fires lovely in the winter. Look out for the group walk (monthly dog walk) my firm favourite and the breakfast snack and coffee that they lay on beforehand. (It's not compulsory to have a dog to enjoy the walk).

Lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and lots of choice of where to sit. We had a couple of the nibbles on the menu and they were great, lovely looking menu!

I hadn't been here for about 30 years! Had a pleasant surprise upon my return - a very good meal in very nice surroundings. It has a large dining area with the tables nicely spaced apart- a pet hate of mine is being too close together and having to listen to other people's conversations. The service was very good. I thoroughly recommend paying a visit, whether for a meal or just a few drinks.

Always have a warm welcome and very friendly service whether we’re here for drinks, food or a bigger event. It’s a really well-run pub with a series of cosy rooms and larger restaurant area, and a great garden set back from the road.

Good service nice food and good atmosphere I understand they are the same owners as the Hare at Langton Green well all I can say is they should train their staff at Langton and chef because last time I went there it was truly dreadful

Was something wrong last night? June 12th. Staff appeared worn out and we had difficulty getting served and had to chase our food. Also food which is usually lovely wasn’t. Shame. Won’t be going back for a long time.

Lovely looking pub, with low beams and fireplaces. The tables are spread out nicely with lots of space. Plenty of seating areas inside and outside, and additional covered patio and what looks like an additional outside space being built. There is a decent amount of parking, whilst the pub is close to walking routes and parks.

We love the NC&G but went there for Sunday lunch yesterday and the meal fell a little below the usual high standard that we’re used to. The steak burger was a little bland and was served with a smattering of French fries. The plate was only half covered - it needed e.g. salad, coleslaw, and/or onion rings to make the plate more interesting. Similar issues with the Korean burger. My wife had the ploughman’s which was very good so no complaints there. Atmosphere and staff attentiveness was “spot-on”as usual.

Great place. Staff were exceptional. Hard to find any fault but perhaps a slight increase in vegan/vegetarian options on an otherwise excellent menu.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere.

Stopped off on my way through the area for a couple of beers. It was brilliant out in the garden with a free cider tasting session! It was a great experience. Plus, the barman was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on tap.

We love coming here as we are guaranteed good service & excellent food & on our last visit on Saturday we were not disappointed. The fish stew was lovely as was the fillet steak sandwich. We will be back

Lovely old building. Cosy inside and big garden, with plenty of seats. Good beer selection - 5 bitters/ IPAs on tap. Didn't eat but food we saw looked good. Was busy on a Friday lunchtime.

Horrible roast dinner, gravy was cold, roast potato's were solid more like baby potatoes! For the price it was robbery!! Service was disgusting, tried to explain our experience and the waiter said ‘what do you want me to do about it’ - manager was nice but she’s the only good thing going for the place.

Long lazy lunch for 9 old friends, great atmosphere and surroundings. Excellent service, very welcoming staff. I had to knock one star off because the quality of the main courses left a bit to be desired. Starters were great, however the Spanish fish stew was only warm and rather mushy, the Steak and Ale pies also were only warm, and very small veg portions. All drinks were served promptly and we had a great 5 hour lunch. However we would not go there for food alone based on that one experience.

Visited tonight for the first time in a year or two, food very much improved as has the service I enjoyed a beautiful Sunday roast, meat was tender, the Yorkshire cooked to perfection

Great menu, great quality food and good service. Had to wait a while but that wasn't a problem at our table with a drink and it was bank holiday Monday and they were busy so to be expected. Have been twice- first time seated in the new part - which was a bit noisy for us as we had someone hard of hearing and last time in the old part- for us much nicer. Request when you book if this is what you'd like.

We had a lovely evening meal here. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful. The layout was really good, plenty of space between the tables. You could relax and enjoy the meal and conversation without feeling your competing with the tables around you. Not crammed in like so many other places. You have created something special. Warm welcome, professional, prompt. We chose a very busy time which might explain why we weren’t offered more drinks during our meal. More of an observation really as it is a great venue located in a great location. The staff work hard to provide a good experience.

Excellent roast, service and overall experience during a really busy Sunday lunchtime.

Sometimes good, sometimes poor. So that means overall... inconsistent! What is really annoying is when they have a private function on and there's no mention on any boards outside warning you ir on theirwebsite. So basically there's no room at the inn on those days. It happened in February- a funeral wake so completely packed out and no chance of a table for lunch midweek... who would know? Poor.

Having read previous reviews I can only assume they have had a catastrophic change of kitchen staff. The 'pink beef' was well done and tough, the vegetables overcooked and nothing was seasoned. It was an atrocious meal.

Very disappointing place on a Sunday for a vegetarian. A roast option which comes with no veg or gravy as they are cooked in meat fat. Disappointed won’t be returning.

Perhaps NYD and a later lunch was unwise all things considered. Lakedown NEIPA on tap was good. The Mixed roast was dreadful. The Pork belly was very poor. The meat was dry, the fat hadn't been rendered down. Wafer thin slice. The beef was doable but not great. Yorkshire was like a piece of wood. Potatoes weren't crisp and it was cold. Not enough gravy, no extra. No cutlery delayed the start. A three year old was served spicy pasta?? The replacement was a bowl of plain pasta and a small bowl of grated cheese. One child didn't get their burger as they had run out. So a delay while fish and chips were ordered. One meal was comped, I'd lost the will by then. I'd like to think it was just the wrong day. Sadly, I wouldn't go back for food. Once bitten...

I went for lunch on Sunday but unfortunately the only table was outside. There are heaters and it was 10c so it was doable. The staff were incredible and they gave us complimentary hot chocolate to keep us warm along with hot water in teapots as hand warmers and blankets. They constantly checked on us to make sure we were ok and were absolutely lovely. The food was so good. The portions were generous but every part was really tasty. I had the lamb from the Sunday menu and brownie for pudding. The brownie is lush! The menu prices are more expensive than what I would usually pay but the quality of the food and the portion sizes make it worth it. I hope to return again when I am in the area and experience the inside - which looked lovely and cosy. Lovely big car park so no issues with parking. They also do dog walks every week so worth checking out if you are a dog owner - meet up starts with a bacon sarnie!

WE HAVE EATEN HERE ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS AND THE CHOICE AND QUALITY OF THE FOOD HAS BEEN EXCELLENT. THE CHEFF IS GREAT LONG MAY IT LAST. WE PLAN TO EAT HERE REGULARLY AS IT IS LOCAL TO CROWBOROUGH. GREAT SERVICE EVEN WHEN BUSY. EVERYONE VERY FRIENDLY.
