Nelson Arms in Waverley

As this is my favourite pub in Farnham we just called in again as we do quite often and decided to have lunch as well as drinks on this occasion. The service is always very prompt, efficient and friendly. When we called in on Thursday 24 October we were surprised that the place was nearly empty. The pub has a great character within and is warm and cosy which we both really like. We had our favourite table in the restaurant area near the window which has the superb galleon models on display. I chose the superb freshly made Chicken Pie with Chips, Veg and its own pot of gravy at £17. My wife had what she said was one of her best tasting soup Roasted Tomato, Red Bonnet and feta cheese with bread at just £7. Drinks are all realistically priced and great value. We will always call in here when in town and really cant fault the food and its quality. Thank you for another great visit.

Sets the standard for what a quality English rural pub should be! Fantastic staff who are always friendly and chatty with visitors. Good quality, tasty pub food done exceptionally well. A charming pub that has to be visited. Best ‘proper’ pub in Farnham!

Great Sunday Roast, every thing perfectly cooked, great portions and efficient staff, highly recommended we will be back.

What a lovely little pub. Stopped for Saturday lunch - it was busy but staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Menu choice included some really nice specials and when it arrived the food was really good,

Cool old pub. Stopped in to try their meat pie of the day. Sadly, they weren't serving food. We had a nice visit with a friendly bartender, though. The ale and cider were nice.

Tried to order simple food and declined all I was ordering cheesy chips and garlic bread and stated that chef was too stressed and unable to order. My friends was also talked to very rudely poor customer service

Went on a little hike with my daughter and stopped at the Nelson Arms for lunch. Very nice burger. Would recommend

We had a table of 5 lots of room and a great atmosphere our servers were fantastic atmosphere a great selection on the menu Ordered 5 roast dinner mixture of beef and chicken the sides were stunning cauliflower cheese and stuffing was 10/10 Coffee was fantastic I ordered a latte and was the best coffee. They gave us a take away box for our grandad who couldn't finish it so professional warm and great service One of the best roasts I've had Amelia our server was fantastic and attentive harry was fantastic in my coffee ruby was on hand to answer all questions.

This is a cosy old pub with good food and a nice atmosphere

We went for a Sunday evening meal. Both vegetarians, we sometimes struggle. We both got the Veggie Burgers with onion rings. A great portion size and quality food. We don't drink so cant rate the alcohol but plenty of people seemed to be enjoying it!

Lovely place to stop after nine holes if golf. Great selection of beer and you get to watch a show while you sit outside and enjoy your beer. You get to watch how truly awful people are at parking their SUVs.

I went alone to the Nelson for one of their delicious Sunday Roasts and they did not disappoint . Beef was beautifully cooked; slightly pink and tender. Super Roast pototatoes so crispy and fluffy potato inside; perfectly cooked veg and a homemade well risen Yorkshire pudding. Chef made me a single size portion of cauliflower cheese and the gravy was amazing. Staff were friendly and attentive. I was well looked after. Lovely historical building with reports of its own ghost. Dates from 1600’s. What is not to like? Recommend

Food was good, beer is great, kitchen service was a little slow but we had plenty time so no dramas

We called in here on Friday lunchtime 19 July at 1:45pm. They actually stop serving food at 2:30pm so we found a table and took menus to have a look. In the end we both opted foe a Cheese & Pickle Ciabatta Sandwich and also opted for the added Chips, Coleslaw & Salad. As the front outside was so busy we actually sat in the courtyard area as this was basically empty. The food was superb as was the service. We had ordered up a bottle of house Sauvignon Blanc and I had a couple of pints of Birra Moretti. Really cannot fault this superb, character, charming and welcoming pub. The only downside was there was only one person working behind the bar and he was expected to serve all the customers, deliver food, clear tables and change barrels etc which was hard for him. In fact he is one of the most efficient, friendly young men you will find and although rushed off his feet he did take it all in his stride, so well done. Some Fridays we have been in here and it is basically empty. As the 19 July was a scorching hot day it brought many more out to enjoy this excellent pub.

Great service a little gem. Everyone had good food, my pork bites could have had more meat, some bites were just fat. Dog friendly and such friendly people.

This pub could well be the answer to the question: "where would you drink if your local got bulldozed?". I mean, really. What's not to like? The pub itself gives a lovely olde worlde feel with the exposed beams and wonderfully large fireplace. The staff were fantastic: cheerful and friendly and knew what they were doing. There is a number of picnic tables out the front and a smaller beer garden out the back. You walk into a welcoming, if smallish, bar with more seating around to your left (although this may also be the dining area). Whilst we didn't eat on this visit, the food I saw had me thinking of coming back to try it out - and from some of the other reviews, it would be well worth the hour + trip. The Guinness was excellent as was the Hogsback TEA.

Best pub in Farnham. Bit of a bold claim I know, but the T.E.A. was lovely. Friendly staff too. Wouldn't mind returning and staying a bit longer. (Didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food.)

All of the pies, Sunday roasts and pork belly bites!

Booked for 12 so we pre ordered food. All served together and all dishes were very tasty.Veg were fresh and cooked well. Burgers looked amazing and pie of the day was a good size.My sausages were good quality and very meaty. Excellent service. This is a lovely pub inside with plenty of character and friendly staff. My only criticism was the table set up which at the evening I talked through with staff and agreed could have arranged a bit better as we were a bit spread out over 2 tables. No deduction in rating as we all came here last year and were able to rearrange our table and I should have discussed this at booking. I can understand why it's a busy pub as prices are good for quality of food

BEST SUNDAY ROAST EVER!!!!!! My wife and I just popped in for a Sunday roast today and it was absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were very generous and the food itself was fresh and extremely tasty. They catered very well for my wife who is vegetarian. They are very ware of people’s dietary needs. The customer service was exemplary as to was the overall ambiance. The pub was built in the 16th century and has oodles of character and history. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

Didn't use services of the Nelson Arms on this visit to Farnham, but have done previously and will do again in the future - always an enjoyable experience, especially after a long walk on a hot dry dusty summer's day!

Went in for a drink when visiting friends. Great atmosphere with a laid back vibe. Came back day later for lunch. A bit heavy handed with the mustard but overall a decent sandwich for lunch

Booked yesterday for Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed with the roast. We both had belly pork which was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Starters were great too, whitebait and red pepper stuffed with feta cheese. Overall good value money. My only disappointment was seeing the next table order red cabbage with their meal that I had not seen on the menu and still cannot see having looked online, we only saw cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets as extras. Maybe the servers need to upsell at point of taking the order.

I beautiful little pub for lunch! I've been here many times and eaten quite a few as well. Definitely a nicer place during the day time, in the evenings due to the size it can get pretty cramped in there if busy. A great selection of gins to choose from and some nice beers on tap too. If you're looking for a proper old school cozy pub for some nice food and a good drink, this is a perfect spot in town.

Lovely food and staff. Disappointed with the fire smoke blowing around. Couldn't taste my food as much and I was worried about my children's lungs.

On Thurs 21 Mar we called in about 1.30pm for a drinks and some food. The kitchen closed at 2.30pm we were told so we ordered up our meals and had a drink outside. We had been told at the start of ordering up a Fish Pie and the Cottage Pie that these will take time to prepare/cook as all the meals are prepared from fresh. About 30/40 minutes later our meals were served and they were absolutely piping hot and tasted delicious. We really couldn't fault the service or the quality of food. This place is quite special for us and we often call in here as it has a terrific oldie worldee atmosphere which we love. Thank you for yet another great experience.

The food and service were exceptionally good. Open fire. Pie of the day (bacon, beef and stilton) and a pint of pravha. Update. Nit inky does this pub serve great food, but its also LOVELY to go for a pint and a chat. The bar staff are lovely and interactive.

Indulge me, for I must extol the virtues of my preferred haunt, presided over by the esteemed manager, Harry. With a staff as splendid as the décor and a libation selection to rival the finest establishments, it’s an experience not to be missed. The fare, while not without merit, pales in comparison to the ambiance. Yet, amidst the charm, one cannot ignore the occasional disruption caused by an elderly duo ensconced in the corner, their disapproving glances toward our furry friends and young patrons. Nonetheless, under Harry’s watchful eye, such trifles are but fleeting inconveniences.

Accommodated us on a busy Sunday even though we hadn't booked. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much bother. Lovely food. Enormous and tasty roasts. Love the style of the pub too.

Service was very profeasional with a smile felt well looked after. The pub itself is suoer cosy with loads of Lord Nelson art work and history around the whole building. Food qas incredible will definitely be back

Such a nice pub. Very accommodating, we had a very complicated potato order to our roast dinners. It was handled perfectly. Food was great and a lovely open fire, what more could you want on a Sunday.

Exactly what you imagine when you think of an old British pub, right down to the roaring fireplace. Excellent selection of food and everything we tried was delicious!

Wow, went for an evening meal with friends, really friendly staff, great atmosphere, but the star was the food. We all agreed that it was the best we have had eating out for a long time. The home made pie was melt in your mouth, vegetarian meal was excellent, along with the pork belly. Selection of vegetables again cooked to perfection. Thanks to you all

We had a really nice lunch here on Saturday after a walk in Farnham Park. Totally recommend it!

First visit just for beer and wine however will be back later this month and hopefully try the food as the menu looked tempting 😋. Cheers RBS

Nice old fashioned pub with a rickety timber Interior, had a good stock of ales on tap and the locals and staff seemed friendly,deffonaitly worth a vist,dogs are also welcome

Amazing pub, one of our favourites in Farnham! We had a larger roast and it was super delicious. The staff were patient and friendly despite our party of 15. Highly recommend!

Been coming here for decades always a good atmosphere and good choice of beers. Not eaten here recently so can't comment on the food.

Great pub, great setting with benches and tables in the old roadside parking bays where you can sit, chat and watch the world go on this old part of town. Fine beer which was my reason for the visit, thus no food score. service score reflects the lack of staff numbers, not the quality of service.

Finally popped in for a pint after years of near misses and it was delicious :-)

Had a couple of pints over a tasty lunch, outdoor seating in rear.

Had a very relaxing lunch in the bar which was not too busy. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Me and my girlfriend went for dinner this evening for the first time. We go fairly often for drinks. The food was amazing and also great value! Carl the chef was brilliant and also the bar staff very talkative and kind. 1000% recommend!!

Gorgeous surroundings, proper old pub. Lovely staff, not much outside space to speak of but there is a little, and why you'd want to be outside is beyond me when it's so nice inside. Also left a wallet here and came back to find it being well looked after behind the bar by the staff!

Great traditional cosy English pub. The ale is always fresh (two types of Tim Taylor Landlord and hogs back TEA). The service is excellent and the food is always good, both the meat and veggie options never disappoint. Favourite is the pork belly. Visit regularly, never had any reason to complain and always have a great pub experience.

It was a busy evening when we visited but the service was very good - I asked for the Calamari for my main course with a salad - it was very tasty and there was plenty of salad with a lovely dressing. I looked at the dessert menu and was thrilled to see Affogato there - it was perfect and it also came with a tot of Brandy - great result. Altogether a lovely time. I would have taken photos but the lighting was too low for good pictures.

Having been back to the Nelson for years but glad to see it hasn’t changed much. Traditional beers and lovely cosy atmosphere.

Definitely one of the better pubs in Farnham. Nice atmosphere and usually busy. The beer is decent as well.

Really bad food. Worst roast I've ever had. We had roast lamb and roast beef. Both were bland as bland could be. Meat was leather shoe colour and very poor tasteless riddled with fat. Likely reheated for the 4th time. Food came out too quickly. Gravy tasteless. Yorkshire overcooked. Place needs a deep clean. Coffee machine looks like it's never had a good wipe down.

Was very cold inside, but to be fair it was lunchtime and they didn't have the fires on yet. Food is pretty good, building is hundreds of years old......

Standing at the bar waiting to be served. Two other customers come in and get served over my shoulder. Ask for a moretti and NZ sauvingnoun blanc. I get a flat beer and a Chardonnay then told that the beer is fine and the wine is the correct one. I'm no wine connoisseur but I can tell the difference between these two. Not the first time I've had a bad experience like this here. The last time I come. Get better beer and clean your pipes also read the wine label before you pour!

Went for an after work drink for the first time in a couple of years. Friendly service, good selection of drinks. Ended up staying for food - great prices, excellent service and great food! Really pleased we returned! Will do so again.

A 14th century pub well worth visiting. The pub has original features. Warm and welcoming. A small shaded courtyard yard. Sserving real ales. Dogs and children welcome. Lovely pub food.

My husband a fan of real ales an easy walk into town. Limited choice of drinks fir drivers apart from fizzy or fruit juices. An Alcohol free gin or Martini would be nice
