Native Cave Restaurant And Bar in Newcastle upon Tyne

This wasn’t my first time coming and was my suggestion for the family, so always gives you some nerves however they lived up to my high expectations I had from previous visits. We came as a group of 14 celebrating my sisters graduation. We all pre ordered due to the size of the group and not a single error was made along with a bunch of allergies catered to. There was a wide range of food ordered from seafood boil, pasta dishes to steak or lamb! Every single one of us loved the food and the quality was incredible along with the portion sizes gave you amazing value for money! Hawa and all the staff could not have done any more for us. The ladies serving us were amazing, polite, attentive and quick with service yet never once felt rushed. Each person can’t wait to come back for more! Thank you so much and I can’t wait to come back yet again!

Amazing food! Ordered the Ribeye steak and the garlic salmon; both were well-presented and cooked to perfection! The only things that kinda let this place down were the service and where we were sitting; I had seen good reviews for Native Cave, so we decided to check it out whilst we were in the area. We saw that it opened at 16:00, so we waited around outside until then. When we entered, the reception wasn't too warm - it felt quite... awkward and like we weren't welcome? We didn't have a reservation, but we were the only people there up until we had finished our meal, so I don't think that was the reason. Eitherway, we felt like a bit of an inconvenience upon entering and the waitress we had could have been slightly friendlier In terms of the area we were seated in, I was surprised by how small, narrow and unimpressive it was (we were right by the front door). I thought that I had seen in videos and photos that the inside was more open and had more atmosphere/decorations? There did seem to be an upstairs area, so maybe the location I had seen was up there. I guess I'm just trying to say that the atmosphere and interior weren't quite on the same level as the food

Went for a birthday night out for a friend who has been banging on about a seafood boil for months. I had zero clue what we were getting. But WOW! The food was incredible, we ate downstairs as we had requested somewhere a bit more private, the service was impeccable, really friendly. Cocktails were gorgeous & strong. the seafood was cooked perfectly, the sauce was tasty, we had the fried rice, plantain & sweet potato fries, they all tasted fab. We had an excellent night tonight & was well worth the £200 bill for 4 of us.

Been wanting to try Native Cave Seafood Boil for a while now. Place is nice and good decor and atmosphere. Busy. Seen a few tables with the boil and we were very excited. I have been to places like Red lobster in the USA which is nice. Food was served in good time. Tempura Squid was perfect snd the batter soft and the squid wasn’t chewy. The boil was a little underwhelming. The Lobster barely had any meat apart from the tail. Shell was practically empty as was the crab. Rest of the shrimp and muscles were nice. For £50 i wanted more and was left still hungry when i was done. Staff were good and attentive even when it was busy. Not bad but expected a bit mire meat on the shell.

Good food but… Customer service is absolutely shocking from this ‘family ran’ business. Greeted and sat down on a table, 2 minutes later the waitress women wanted our drink and food order, we gave our drinks but we stated we were not ready for our food yet.. she came back over and took our orders. We felt that the starters and main was to close together and not enough time. We did not eat the garlic bread that came with the prawn/crab linguine as it was not cooked enough was like eating cold dough, as the waitress took our plates away, ‘you not eat garlic bread’ ? Which we thought was rude. We asked for the bill and the lady that came over didn’t even say how much it was, or even. THANK YOU?!? this place has good food but they really need to work on their customer service it was absolutely shocking tonight!! Disgusting to say the least there was not a good atmosphere However I would return for a takeaway only. This place would be fabulous if they worked on a few things. Not a welcoming atmosphere

Starter was good, main okay. Staff terrible and rude. Felt like a Karen’s diner experience. Rushed us out the place. Unwelcoming people running the place, scruffy place with scruffy staff. WILL NOT BE BACK!

Ha estropeado la experiencia.

Excelente servicio, comida increíble. No dejes que las mesas de fórmica y el café te saquen. Este pequeño restaurante sirve algunos de los mejores alimentos que he probado en años! La tostada de langostinos, con langostinos enteros fue fabulosa, sin embargo, el hervor del marisco, con langosta entera fue la estrella de la noche. La salsa para mojar que la acompaña -necesitan empezar a venderla- es deliciosa. Y un saludo al personal, amable, divertido y saber cómo hacer que los clientes se sientan bienvenidos. Que algunos de los restaurantes ‘posher’ parecen haber olvidado cómo hacerlo. Ya planeamos nuestro regreso.

El asado de mariscos era increíble, recomendaría encarecidamente a cualquiera que vaya. El personal era encantador, amable y servicial no tenía quejas en absoluto el precio era fantástico para todos los mariscos que se obtiene. Definitivamente volveré.

Had a lovely time at Native Cave. A family friend took us there for a birthday celebration and we were all in love with the place. The cuisines were great. I enjoyed Nigerian Suya oh dear. Will be visiting again

Had a great meal yesterday with friends and our kids. I had the spring rolls and the steak which were really good. The seafood boil was apparently very good as well. The staff were so friendly to us as well. Will definitely return!

Awful experience. The food was just ok but the service was disgusting. Rude and angry staff, the waitress burped in my face when taking my order and totally ignored it. At the end when we asked for a VAT receipt or invoice they said they cannot provide one and laughed in my face like I was asking for something strange. Not sure how legal it is if the business in the UK cannot provide a VAT invoice or receipt i needed for the reimbursement from work. I do not recommend this place, Awful. So many better places around.

Mislead by the high rating I went to this place and I really wish I hadn't. Food was just ok but staff is a joke: rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. Not even a VAT registered business (how can they even be legally open??). Avoid at all costs!

My daughter recommended Native Cave as seen reviews on Instgram. It was busy so the waitress said sit downstairs until a table became available. We ordered food and drinks, and I asked the waitress again if a table was free upstairs as the smell from the toilets wasn't very pleasant (we were sat opposite toilets). She said she would look at the toilet situation. Next min the food and the drink arrived much to my dismay. I asked if the table was free upstairs and she said sorry no. We ordered Prawn toast for a starter it was cold, we left that. Then the seafood boil arrived. It looked the part but when we broke into the lobster there was hardly anything in it, King prawns were hard. Not sure if it had been frozen or just over cooked. Was the worst meal we'd ever had. The waitresses asked a few times if the meal was good as they could see we had left it and we told both of them no it was either frozen food or over cooked and she said she would give feedback to chef. Expensive dinner that we all left, we won't be going back or recommending to anybody.

Amazing spot to have a great time. The customer service experience was spot on, Mariam is a professional at what she does. Meal was really tasty, ranging from their mixed seafood boil, Grilled suya meat, cocktail, hot spicy jerk chicken wings, peppered turkey and Jollof rice with plantain. Best ever.

Amazing African Cuisine and Warm Hospitality! I visited the Native Cave Restaurant and Bar in Newcastle yesterday, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! The Grilled Tilapia and Jollof Rice I ordered were nothing short of perfection – the tilapia was perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection, while the Jollof Rice was bursting with rich, authentic flavors. Wow... this place is superb we shared a seafood boil and it was quality, lobster, crab and king prawns with an outstanding sauce. My partner had the linguine which was spicy, but not overpowering. Just give it a go, you will not be disappointed

Found this place by accident on a 2 night trip to Newcastle. What a treat! Really good food and service. Wanted the seafood boil but wife wouldn't have it so settled on grilled rack of lamb and tiger prawns in garlic. Wow, such good food. So glad I came. Highly recommend.

We had the sea food broil it was absolutely fantastic the sea food was so tasty !! We were in the basement and unfortunately the cockroaches running along the benches and one on the table was horrific, we did mention it to 2 members of staff so hopefully it’s now been sorted mmmm, let’s see !!!!

Ahora la comida, todos nosotros fuimos por el hervor de mariscos a £ 50 por pareja y lo que una gran decisión era también. Hay una espera que indica que se está cocinando correctamente desde cero y los resultados ciertamente lo sugieren. Langosta, cangrejo, enormes gambas, mejillones, ollas nuevas cerosas y rodajas de maíz dulce todo servido en un rico caldo de coco picante. 35 minutos de fisuras en la cáscara, sorber la cabeza y excavar cavidades más tarde estábamos todos pegajosos y grasosos y súper felices. Hacen otras cosas, pero no tengo idea de qué, ya que el enorme tazón de crustáceos me hipnotizó. Este lugar es increíble. Una habitación tipo pasillo simple con muebles modernos simples y música tranquila de África Occidental en el fondo. Oh Dios! Ese marisco y esa salsa eran impresionantes! Pagaría dinero para aprender a hacerlo. ¡Ve ahí ahora! Oh, sí, venden Guinness nigeriano genuino.

This place was amazing the food was absolutely out of this world and the staff could not have done enough for us. They went above and beyond to make sure that what had started out as a bad day for us was turned around as soon as we entered the restaurant. And they really did do that we left with smiles on our faces. The seafood boil was so tasty and also a really fun experience to crack everything open ourselves. However we did struggle with this at first and the staff even offered to take it into the kitchen and do it all for us (we’d sussed it by this point though 😂) Everything tasted phenomenal and the staff were so kind and helpful. 100% will be returning

Seafood boil was amazing, we also had a side of rice and squid, both also great. The sauce that came with the boil was the absolute best, if they sold it I'd definitely buy it! Service was good, everyone was friendly. We were the only ones in there so the atmosphere was non existent, but it was early in the evening and out of their control. Would come back for sure! We were greeted at the door and sat in the warmest spot in the restaurant (by the bar) and we were served throughout the night by a lovely, helpful and very smiley young lady (by the name of Esther). The best seafood I've ever tasted and I'm not normally a fan of seafood, and, THE BEST SERVICE I've received in a long time. I would recommend this place to anyone searching for the tastes of the great blue sea! My compliments to the chef also. Fantastic job!!

Esta es una visión completamente honesta de Native Cave. Cuando entramos, no nos recibieron en la puerta, tuvimos que encontrar a alguien detrás de la barra que nos llevara a una mesa en el sótano, donde uno de los empleados estaba comiendo. Esto fue a pesar de que reservamos una mesa con ellos de antemano. Sospecho que esto fue porque se olvidaron de reservar una mesa arriba para nosotros. Nos dieron una botella de agua cada uno mientras la camarera terminaba su comida y LUEGO encendió la televisión, antes de que finalmente nos trasladara arriba cuando una mesa se liberó. Solo uno de los empleados sonrió y la comida tomó un tiempo (pedimos la mezcla de mariscos hervir) pero una vez que la comida llegó allí, era genial, cocinado brillantemente, sabroso y decente grandes porciones. Quítate el sombrero a los chefs, saben lo que están haciendo. Daría 2. 5 si pude, pero la falta de servicio y profesionalidad era desalentador y hacía la experiencia ligeramente incómoda. No vaya aquí si desea una buena experiencia gastronómica, pero vaya aquí si no le importa mal servicio para un buen sabor auténtico hervor de mariscos.

Los dos vinimos por el hervor de marisco y fue absolutamente increíble. Los amantes de los mariscos tienen que probar este lugar, era delicioso, de alta calidad y el personal era tan amable. Nos fuimos tan llenos y no puedo esperar a volver!

Oh yes. The seafood boil 😍😍 It’s gone viral so I’d recommend reserving. Lobster, crab, prawns, mussels, potato and corn and a few garlic bread for £50. Beautiful. I do not understand how it’s so cheap. The sauce is creamy and rich and deep. They should bottle and sell it. The decor is dark and the room is narrow. There aren’t enough napkins. The drinks can be surprisingly expensive. But it’s worth it for the seafood boil. I also ordered the Suya but it was a bit dry and mild. Its redeeming feature was being another vehicle by which to transport seafood boil sauce into my body.

Like a party in your mouth. They definately know there flavours and can cook. First time in Newcastle . If i ever come back i will definately be going back here. Went to Native Cave on my first night to Newcastle Castle on Business from London. Found the restaurant through Trip Advisor reviews. The food was absolutely amazing and the portion sizes huge. I had the Jamaican Spicy Jerk Wings for starter then the Crab Linguini for my main and the Red Velvet cake for dessert. Value for money!!! The only drawback was the service. The waitresses do not acknowledge you upon arrival and would past you at the door. As a customer youbwill have to ask to be seated. Also, I waited 45 mins for the waiter to bring the bill after asking for it. I could've walked out the restaurant without paying and they wouldn't have noticed until I'm long gone. Please work on yout customer service because you already having a winning menu. Compliments to your Chef(s).

Really enjoyed this dining experience, we chose to share tghe garlic prawns as a starter which were so tasty, meaty and delicious then the boil as our main. Wow, the seafood was yummy but the sauce was the star for me. I wanted to drink what was left over. Our server Eve was really attentive and informative. She really made us relax and have a very pleasant meal. We can't wait fir our return visit

We came here on 07/08/2024 to celebrate a birthday, we chose to go here due to the good reviews we had seen but how disappointed we were. We booked a table a few days before arrival, when we got there we were sat next to a fan and it was like sitting in a wind tunnel. Myself and another person decided to share the seafood boil which cost £50, not worth the price at all and looked nothing like the reviews and photos we had seen, it was tiny. We got 3 mussels, 4 king prawns, 2 small potatoes, 2 small pieces of corn on the cob, 2 small pieces of crab and a lobster which had no meat to it. It also came with garlic bread with was 2 very soggy and wet pieces. My mam ordered the peppered turkey which comes with jollof rice, we were then told that the jollof rice was a 2 hour wait to make and they offered jasmine rice instead. The seafood boil came out way before any of the other dishes did leaving everyone else just sitting and waiting. When the pepper turkey came we were disgusted, the jasmine rice smelt and was stone cold, it was heaped into a small plastic bowl that you would give a toddler and there was no turkey in the dish. The 'meat' was just gristle, fat and bones and when held up was a dull transparent colour. We complained and the waitress said she would get us a new one, however it was the exact same bowl just mixed around as the meat was in the same shapes and it was the exact same state the 'first' bowl was. We complained again and told them it was inedible which another waitress came over and said that there was cow skin mixed in with the meat and that was the gristle. Sorry but why is cow skin in a dish that is stated on then menu as peppered turkey? What happens if someone has allergies to other meats and they seem to just be mixing whatever 'meats' they can find. When the bill came they tried charging us £15 for the peppered turkey dish which we refused to pay as it was inedible. We left absolutely dissatisfied from start to finish and even had to drop off at McDonald's on the way back as we were still hungry. One massive thing I noticed that the menu I have seen on TikTok wasn't available in the restaurant so seems that they are giving bloggers and influencers a much better experience to get people through the doors, even a couple who were sat next to us asked for a dish that they had seen on TikTok and they were told that the restaurant didn't do it at that time. The menu is a lot smaller in comparison to what is advertised online. Overall I will definitely not be going back to Native Cave at all and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Ordering online or by phone is a hassle and the service is awful. We tried ordering on Deliveroo at opening time and couldn’t so called the restaurant instead. We were told they ‘turned off’ the feature because the kitchen was busy at opening and they will call us back in 30 mins. We had to call again ourselves and after taking our order, we were informed again the kitchen couldn’t process it. We then spoke to the Manager and she was as helpless as the whole kitchen. The standard of service is below par which give me great concern overall. It shows poor advance planning and logistic management. Sunday evenings have families at home who would love to eat in. It’s a shame my family and friends were unable to have a lovely seafood take out evening.

Wonderful restaurant right in the middle of the city Newcastle. Give it a try.you won't be disappointed. We loved it and we will be back soon.

Just been to this place after being excited to go for months but not having time to be extremely disappointed with not only the food but the service i ordered the crab n prawn linguine which had about 3-4 prawns in not to mention i also ordered chips which they gave to my friend to then tell him a few minutes later they were meant for me, following that up i made the statement of can me and my friend pay separately for what each of us ordered so i pay for what i ordered and he pays for what he ordered, the woman came back with the bill being totally wrong after correcting her she said “2 seconds” which ended up being like 5 minutes for her to come back and for her to have the wrong bill again extremely disappointed especially after waiting that long.

Food was absolutely beautiful! The service was very slow and the serving lady almost forgot garlic bread for one order and brought this out midway our meal. The beer order was also wrong but was rectified quickly. Waited forever for the bill etc. This has not put us off this place. We can't wait to go back!

We were looking for a seafood specialist for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food and service was amazing. Even gave us an anniversary cake free of charge - will definitely be coming back. Make sure you book cos it’s really busy.

Went without a booking for my son’s birthday. It was full but they asked us if we could wait downstairs until they had a table for us. The staff we very polite and hospitable. Waited a while but it was really worth the wait We had hot and spicy chicken wings to start. These were delicious 😋 Then the seafood 🦞 boil. I’ve never tasted anything so Devine It has prawns 🍤 mussels crab 🦀 potatoes 🥔 corn 🌽 and lobster 🦞. The sauce is amazing, so tasty my son drank it like soup when all the seafood was gone Neither of us can wait to return

We were looking for a seafood specialty restaurant and, after seeing the amazing reviews, decided to try this place. I came here a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed everything we had. The seafood boil was amazing and can comfortably be shared between two people. The highlight for me was the Prawn Chili Linguine—absolute bliss and highly recommended. The only disappointment was the service; the lady assigned to our table was hardly acknowledging us, a bit rude, and the service was really slow.

I had the most delicious meal here last evening. I had perfectly spiced shrimp with rice for my main course and a starter of spicy chicken thigh . The portions were very generous, the service excellent and I will be returning to this wonderful restaurant.

My family visited for lunch and ordered the lamb chops, seafood boil, and a few sides. We shared everything and it was all delicious!!! The seafood boil in particular was incredible! The staff were lovely and even helped entertain our baby while we ate. We will definitely be returning! The menu was a little different to the one we viewed online, so that needs to update. But little things like that had little impact on our impression of this restaurant as the food and staff more than make up for it!

Amazing - simply superb! The seafood, the lamb chops and the service were amazing. Give this place a go - great vibe and only wish they would open soon in Belfast!

Staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was tender, flavorful and incredible value. Honestly couldn’t recommend the seafood boil enough!

Came here in search of a good seafood boil and they did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavour and the seafood boil sauce was unreal up there with one of the best meals I’ve had. The jerk chicken wings were delicious as well they make the perfect appetiser, they are bustling with flavour with a small bit of spice. Will be here again next time I’m in Newcastle. Also if you are getting the seafood boil wear an apron as it can be messy as I found out the hard way.

Had a fantastic dinner tonight with my friend. Ordered the seafood broil- WOW 🤩. A whole lobster, crab claws, prawns and mussels in a delicious sauce with corn on the cobs and potatoes. Also had a side of jollof rice and plantain. Such fresh seafood and it was utterly delicious. Thankfully you get the full plastic outfit and gloves to save your clothes from all the lovely juiciness! Staff were so lovely and attentive (and gave us a lesson in how to crack the lobster and crab claws). Such a fantastic restaurant, we will definitely return, and so reasonably priced. If you like seafood 🦞 give this place a go; heavenly.

Food was BANGIN’. We got the seafood boil to share. Portions were perfect, flavours were ridiculously delicious. 100% will be going back again. Atmosphere was nice and chilled with great music, shout out Tems. Customer service was amazing, so friendly, helpful and generous. From the couple who spilled the pineapple juice (sorry x)

Phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥. The Smokey jollof rice and the grilled chicken wings has an amazing flavour. The customer service was amazing, the staff were amazing, super friendly and the atmosphere was calm. I loved the fact that Afro music was incorporated as one of the restaurants aesthetics. Native Cave restaurant is the best place to have a taste of great flavour and a the African cuisine 🔥🔥.

Food is amazing and full of flavour!!

I took my mum here for her birthday meal this week, there was 4 of us. We rang to say we would be late due to traffic, the girl who picked up the phone didn’t ask our name but said it would be fine. Turned up 10 mins later and our table was given away & no one knew we’d actually called up to let them know. We all ordered starters… only 2 came out so we had to wait again. The mains came out at all different times & while still eating the layer starter, one was wrong, one missing a bowl of chips and one was so spicy we couldn’t even eat it (in fairness a lady did come out once it arrived and I’d had a bit to ask how it was and if it was too spicy, we couldn’t eat it so they never charged us as they should have said at the start). The menu online is not the same as in the restaurant, they have changed the price for a steak from £25 to £40 and no choice for a single person sea food boil. We were asked for drinks at the start but none were offered through the meal once our drinks were finished with - no customer service in this establishment whatsoever unfortunately. Little to no atmosphere. Very disappointing seen as google has 4.9 stars. The reason I’ve given 2 stars is because my partner enjoyed his sea food & there was no charge for the meat that was too spicy. Would not go back.

The best meal out ever! Lovely staff and the taste of everything was heaven! Will be making this our place to go for a nice treat! Waiting was fine,you expect that when food cooked to order,delicious and piping hot! Well done to the chef!

I had an amazing dining experience last week! The seafood boil was hands down the best in Newcastle - fresh and bursting with flavor. Despite a bit of a wait (almost an hour), the impeccable service made up for it. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring we had everything we needed. Overall, a fantastic spot for seafood lovers, just be prepared for a wait!
