Poor presentation of meals to be offered cheesecake with custard a first for me

Ordered three lots of chicken in a basket for £9.50 each...dry oven chips and dry chicken waited 30 mins too for items that had obviously been cooked hours before ..also the portions were inconsistent..I had 5 chips and a really small chicken tender..the other two had 14 chips and larger chicken ..maybe attention to detail next time ..shame as it came recommended..staff were amazing tho..food not so good Might be because I rocked up at 6.30 on a Sunday and the kitchen closes at 7 ..shame tho as its a lovely place

Absolutely delighted with this pub. It’s my family’s local, but not mine as I don’t live anywhere near it. We contacted them the day before (Easter Sunday) to ask if they could manage a party of 20 for a birthday. They agreed and the service was super quick, food was brilliant, owner’s son was an excellent host, very knowledgeable about local issues. Just be warned, portions are huge, the chicken tenders are massive, I ordered 9 thinking they’d be small strips of chicken, but were more like whole breasts chopped into 3. Gave most away, shame because they were very tasty! Speedy service, nothing was too much bother. We even had the fire lit for us when some people left and some stayed and moved seats. Great place, kudos to the host.

Best pub in Newcastle. The Sunday roasts are brilliant and reasonably priced. Friendly staff and good atmosphere with plenty of screens for the footy or good background music

We booked for 5 people, then we added another 4, no problem, food fantastic, atmosphere great, service brilliant. After visiting our mam in hospital, we wanted somewhere close to have lunch as it was late afternoon, couldn't not be more helpful and relaxed. Will definitely call in again. Thanks everyone .

First time, just called in at lunchtime for a quick drink. Looks a great pub for beer and sporting events. Not tried the food yet. Great service. We will be back.

Me and my friends were frequent users at the cozy dive until an encounter we experienced last night. One of your bartenders was incredibly rude to us upon ordering, when we tried to get a rum and Coke. He patronisingly repeated that he did not mention the pub serves Diet Coke, and that we should “start our orders with the volume next time”. We were put off by the condescending tone, and so be aware that you will be frowned upon here.

Might be better suited for those looking for a pint while they watch a match as the food is only OK, but the prices are in line with the higher city centre restaurant prices where the food is the star of the show. Dog friendly, though, so that's a plus!

We had our Christmas meal at the pub and they were so accommodating for a big group of people. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious.

We had a fantastic Xmas lunch at the Cosy Dove! As a group of 15, we were so impressed by the quality of everything - it’s defo hard getting everything right for such a large group but it was brilliant. Service and food quality were so good!! The cheesecake is a must. The atmosphere is always so great here, really friendly and a great place to go with friends. Thanks so much for a lovely time! Would highly recommend.

Lovely fresh food at a reasonable price

We entered to a very chilled vibe and were greeted by Josh who was very welcoming and very helpful and the food was lovely and perfect portion size, we will definatly be returning.

One of the wait staff guy with glasses is frankly rude and on multiple occasions to multiple people has been short, snarky and unfriendly. Other than him the rest of the staff are lovely, warm and welcoming and it’s a great pub to watch sports.

Ordered a Sunday for lunch for 2 to collect from the Cosy Dove. The food was amazing - we had both the beef and the nut roast which were lovely and the Yorkshires were the best I’ve ever had! The lady who served us was also very polite and helpful. 10/10 we will be back.

After reading good reviews we decided to try out the sunday lunch. Big mistake. I can only assume that we went on an off day. Pork was very fatty and difficult to cut especially with the very blunt knives available. Beef was chewy. Most of the vegetables were quite hard too. Had trouble cutting the cauliflower again sharper knives would help. As I left most of the food decided to try a dessert as I was still hungry, this was much better. The staff and drinks were lovely but a big let down on a traditional sunday roast.

Attended a family Sunday lunch at a table for 6, table service was great, lass very helpful and pleasant, food tasty. There were plenty of different vegetables on the plate too, and was served hot. Desserts went down a treat too, but just a little too much for me and couldn't finish it Not an ideal seat for those facing the wall, but had big screens on, for the male sports fans amongst us 😊 No food pics today, as I would usually, because I was in new company so didn't want to seem like I was on my phone all the time.

Reserved an area for a reunion with friends & family. Joshua was super helpful & accommodating. The area was the perfect size, meals were lovely & staff very friendly. Thanks heaps for the amazing atmosphere & hospitality!

Got the beef stew and veggie burger Stew was very nice, bigger portion would of been good. Came with frozen veg which tasted like it was full of water and soggy. Veggie burger was a bit sloppy but tasted nice. Bit overpriced for the quality you get

Nice chill local pub with a country feel in a city location. Rarely seems too busy which makes a relaxing atmosphere.

Can say I've never had a meal as bad as this . I got beef stew which in my life I've never had a beef stew like it...not in gravy no carrots no onions just stewing steak and dried gravy ...was really really bad and for its price point I expected better...avoid if you going for something to eat ...if you're going for a meet up then it's champion ..but expected inflated prices

Last minute Sunday lunch while visiting daughter who has just moved to the area for Uni. The BEST Sunday lunch we have ever had !! Could not fault any of it. The deserts are also amazing! Staff are super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place and we will def be back. Thank you for a fab afternoon

I last reviewed The Cosy Dove at Spital Tongues a few years ago when I raved about the Theakston’s Barista Stout, which sadly due to the dismal state of the country has disappeared 😢 Mrs B is doing a nearby muddy fun run in aid of Bowel Babe cancer research today at Exhibition Park, so suffering from dodgy knees currently and not being able to stand for extended periods (go on feel sorry for me) I’ve dropped into the too-near-not-to-go-into-again Cosy Dove for lunch while I wait to hear she’s completed her obligations and can be collected to sit on the bin bags to protect the car seats from her and her friends’ muddy torsos. Spellcheck says it’s torsos so why it’s not potatos and tomatos I’ll never know. Hey ho. Or maybe it’s hey hoe. Spellcheck does not guide me in this instance. Interval. I digress. The Cosy Dove was last time, and remains, excellent in every respect bar the absence of Barista Stout. I lunched on Beef Stew Cobbler with Scarborough-style Leek and Spring Onion dumplings on top broccoli, baby carrots and potato croquettes. In days gone by I reckon it’d have been creamy horseradish mash, but the aforementioned dismal state of the country has had an effect on menus nationwide I suppose- businesses need to remain viable and it’s a hard enough time for the licensed trade already. The steak was melt in the mouth soft, and the potato croquettes were crispy and pleasant. Suffice to say there is no photo of this as it was gone too quick lol, it was that good 😋 I decided to take further advantage of my presence and have a pud (oops sorry dessert) too, being enticed by the Biscoff Cheesecake on the Specials Board. It appeared quicker than you can say Jack Robinson (who I’ve actually worked with previously but I reckon the cliché was created prior to his conception……) and, together with a little jug of double cream and heavenly caramel sauce on top, was consumed with haste but reverence to the time taken to create it- bought in apparently, but definitely good enough to have been home made😋👌🏻 So, no Barista Stout, but still a wide and palatable variety of liquid refreshments. See photos. And a well stocked and still eclectic spirits selection. Eclectic is a trendy description these days isn’t it. PopMaster contestants use it continually to describe their music tastes. The Cosy Dove is one of those uniquely inviting pubs where you can go in a total stranger and despite how nervous you might be, you can still strike up a conversation which is good for the soul. Huge amounts of character, parking out back, outside tables out back, side and front, and a very good time to be had in any scenario accompanied by swift, pleasant and efficient staff. Ding dong. Been here before but this was my first time at the Cosy Dove for Sunday lunch. I brought my parents and hubby and we all left with full bellies and very happy. Many thanks to all the staff for being warm, friendly and attentive. There was a good choice of meats and we opted for pork and lamb; they were beautifully cooked and each was served with a lovely selection of vegetables, stuffing and an outstanding home made yorkshire pudding. Everything was amazing and I can guarantee we will be back for lunch or dinner. Yum yum! 😋

Good place to unwind after work on a Friday, with work mates. Ample parking at the back. With outdoor seating, excellent if it doesn't rain.

Staff are great, can get busy but you don't mind. Plenty of outdoor seating too.

We took mam for food. She said well it's the best fish she's had for ages. Which is a complement coming from our mam. Not too busy just nice had couple drinks. My husband had a pint of Amstel which he loved. Then we had more drinks outside for me and mam. Great sitting out area. Just love this cosy pub. We can see why it's called The Cosy Dove!! We will be back soon 🍺🥂🌞

Food was pub grub, nothing massively special but tasty. Although, the table was being cleared very quickly, sometimes too quickly as I had to say that I wasn't finished as the staff tried to take the plate away. The atmosphere was great though, with lots of students and locals in! And a great selection of drinks!

Our first rime in this pub. We had Sunday lunch and puds... the food was beautiful and excellent service the staff are so friendly and more than happy to help. Keep up the great work team.

Tried this place a couple of times won't try a third time...overpriced. food is hardly cooked to a high standard. Had much tastier homecooked food at more reasonable prices. I've noticed also that the owner never seems to accept responsibility when replying to reviews nit in his favour. Never seems to apologise. No doubt a local pub so favours the locals.

Had a lovely meal here with my partner, the nut roast was delicious, and the lamb shank was just perfect. The venue lives up to its name, its cosy & relaxed with great staff (and chef).

My church family surprised me with a bit is a party lunch. Originally it was going to be just the girls meeting for lunch, but Jen heard, whole church family and about 20 of us descended into the Cozy Dove. Thank you very much for accommodating us.

A reasonable pub. Calling it a 'gastropub' is a bit of an exaggeration. They serve very average food. Atmosphere is ok and it seems friendly enough.

Currently enjoying a pint of Blonde Ale in this cracking Newcastle pub. Very friendly staff, very comfortable seating and a pleasant atmosphere. A very nice place to hang out while waiting for relatives at the nearby hospital. Certainly will return. And the £2 a pint Tuesday deal brilliant. Thanks to the staff. Your doing a great job!

Excellent day watching the toon unfortunately they got beat!! 😕

Ordered lamb shank on mash, lamb shank was alright. however mash and veg tasted like frozen tat that had been reheated in a microwave. Ordered a side portion of fat chips for the young one. Good job it was for her as portions are tiny. Think she got about 8 chips, yes fat ones but arguably still a tiny portion for the extortionate prices.

Lovely fried chicken! Had a massive position of fried chicken for a really reasonable price. Our waitress was also brilliant giving us fantastic service. Really good prices and tasty food.

Loved the atmosphere, food was ridiculously cheap with a deal on a few years back £2 Tuesdays for a 9 inch pizza. Quality of food is reliable, staff are friendly enough. Student events nights are nice as well. This was back pre-covid times so will have to give it a visit again!

I have just picked up 3 delicious Sunday lunches. The portion size was perfect and the quality was fantastic. We had chicken, pork and beef. The meat was cooked perfectly and and very tasty. The veg was fresh and the giant yorkshire pudding was complimented brilliantly by the gravy. I’ve never tasted gravy quite like it, very flavoursome. Thank you so much for a super meal. 3 very happy NHS staff.

Had a family Christmas Lunch at the Cosy Dove today. The food was cracking and the service was friendly and attentive. Absolutely recommended.

Booked a table of 11 for all the family. The table was set when we arrived, and everyone was served with drinks straight away. Starters were served quickly, and so were the mains. We all had turkey, which was a huge portion of succulent breast...

Clean, friendly staff, busy with students. But a good atmosphere and students very polite and friendly. Food was excellent will be going again. Staff were very attentive and made sure we were ok by asking if everything was okay.

Seen what looked like a manager with a American accent talking down on staff and was rude to my friend who ordered some drinks at the bar.

Might just be me because recent reviews aren’t to bad but in my opinion it was pretty pitiful even for an average pub. Don’t even waste your time with the “build a burger” and just go to five guys instead. That way you can build...

Sunday lunch...husband had beef which he said was OK. Apart from the fact he had no mash and plate had to be taken back to be put on. I ordered loin of pork. Looked more like leg not loin,very fatty and tough. Vegetables... well not even a spoon full of brocoli mange tu..baby carrots maybe 6 very baby....cauliflower cheese which I could hardly cut. I want to see the veg on my plate. Too much pretty decoration .i want to see mash like mash not piped in a pretty decoration... If I wanted novo cuisine I would go elsewhere. Didn't enjoy at all. Just serve a proper Sunday lunch without all the fussiness. Obviously won't be going back...oh 2nd visit first was good but today definitely not.

Four of us had Sunday Lunch having booked table in advance. Friendly greeting and taken straight to table. Service was good as was the food. We all had different mains and all were thoroughly enjoyed. Three of us had dessert which was very good for only a fiver each. We will go again.

Given the rave reviews we had high expectations of this place. We had been planning our visit to the Cosy Dove for some time, especially given their reputation for serving quality “vegan” Sunday Lunch. Unfortunately it was anything but: no veggie yorkshire puddings, hard, tasteless vegetables, mediocre nut roast. The only reason why I didn’t complain and demand a partial refund at the time was because my partner had travelled a long way to experience a Sunday Roast and I didn’t want to spoil it for her.

Stumbled across this establishment when out for a wander with the girls. I was appalled at the service I received from one particular staff member, I don’t recall her name but believe she was American. The tone of voice used towards me and her fellow...

Came on my own to eat and watch a match. Staff were very attentive and friendly the homemade steak and ale pie was gorgeous. Georgia had great knowledge of the wide range of guns on offer. Highly recommended.
