Hidden gem in Kemptown village! This is the best Asian cuisine in the UK served by heartfelt, passionate people. Don't expect a menu as exquisite dishes are cooked fresh on a daily basis by Nicky. Husband Lonnie is handsomely hospitable and at hand to talk one through the quotidian delights. The best soup that I have ever tasted in my life was the 'Butternut squash, coconut and miso' until I invited my daughter to join me the following day when we were knocked out proper by the 'Panjabi Achari Gobi soup'. Off the scale!! Indonesian salmon, Burmese chicken, Keralan salmon, Malay noodles ... oh and the chai is like being back in India and the beers are lovely and I'm moving to live nearby because I miss the experience so much! I've been around the world but this was a diamond experience; not due to the close proximity of the summer susurrating sea (which was marvellous) but from the magic that Nicky meticulously prepares and that Lonnie generously delivers. Wow!

While visiting me in Brighton, my dad stumbled across Nanima - and after one unforgettable meal he was blown away. He insisted he take me the next day and I’m so glad he did! I’ve lived here nearly seven years, and this is easily the best food I’ve had in the city!!! The flavours are rich, comforting, and deeply authentic - every dish made with care and soul. Nikki’s cooking reminded my dad of the food he ate while living in Goa in the ’90s, which says it all. And Lonnie’s warmth and sincerity make the whole experience even more special - they are truly people from the heart. From the chilli masala omelette wrap to fragrant coconut rice, vermicelli noodles, and perfectly spiced mains (salmon, chicken, all sorts of veggie options) and sides—everything was exceptional. Nanima isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place you remember and I can’t wait to go back!

Nanima is a rare find, and I already can’t wait to return.

We ordered catering from Nanima for 40 people - everything from ordering, choosing menus, delivery and of course the food was superb. Lonnie and Nicky have created something very special with Nanima, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to the cafe or order catering.

A lovely little tasty establishment in Kemptown. Big up Lonnie and Nicky for the 1st class food and service. I really enjoyed my butternut squash soup and noodles. The menu was very well explained and included lots of different options and sides. The vibes in the cafe are chilled out and inviting. Expect service with a smile and delicious home cooked real food. You will not be disappointed!

We chose Nanima to cater for a significant birthday party because they are local family run business. Lonnie (front of house) and Nicky (chef) were so accommodating and helpful, and the food was delicious. We chose buffet style food to suit our venue and they suggested a menu for us. Everything was made from scratch and they even baked two types of cake! Veggie and vegan and gluten free guests were also catered for. The crowd favourites were the home-made samosas and the Korean chicken rolls which all disappeared very quickly. The cakes were delicious too and went down a treat. Husband says that the carrot cake was probably the nicest he’s tasted, which is high praise indeed. Would highly recommend Nanima both for lunch/dinner and for event catering.

Staff were noticeable stressed turning the whole experience very unpleasant. A shame cause the food was good.

I’m so disappointed by our experience today. The food looked amazing but as soon as we entered the owner looked completely overwhelmed and quite frankly, rude. He ushered us to a table, accommodating for our buggy which was nice although we were cranked with our baby and older daughter on a table for two while they were 4 of us. Be aware that this place is not suitable for big group of people, neither it is kid friendly. The owner then went on and on about their menu making it unnecessarily complicated when in essence, he just wanted to explain to us that the menu is changing all the time. My partner went to the counter to have a look at the different options and was practically shouted at for not staying at the table. He was asked to sit back and wait for his turn basically. Major red flag, we should have left then I think. When it was finally our turn, we were so uncomfortable with the owner’s behaviour. We were so rushed to order after his monologue about his menu - my daughter hadn’t even chose what she wanted that he was already asking if we were done - that we all panicked ordered and ended up super disappointed with our order. So many options looked tasty which is why I’m adding two stars, but the owner’s behaviour and attitude really overshadowed the experience there. Won’t be back

The owner is utterly rude, condescending and simply mean! Had a horrible experience being basically shouted at while ordering. Any question you ask will be met by a very snappy and patronising response from the owner!

We were lucky enough to attend the inaugural monthly dinner club and it was a roaring success. We honestly felt as if we were round for dinner at somebody's house. Beautifully cooked food, a warm and lively atmosphere on small shared tables, and superb hospitality from our hosts. The food was delicious, with excellent desserts to finish, and beer and wine available, which made it feel like a fun lock-in at a cafe. We'll definitely be back.

A wonderful place on a sunny lunchtime, with tables on the quiet street outside. The food is fresh, delicious and made with real care, with a daily changing selection of dishes. I had a grilled Szechuan salmon with noodles, crunchy raw veg and stir fried goodies, and a homemade lemonade. You can tell this is an establishment run with passion, and the staff are so friendly too. We are going to go back for their monthly supper club for sure!

Extremely welcoming environment with excellent Asian cuisine. We happened to wander past and it caught our eye. We were welcomed and catered to very quickly and had the best Chai Tea I’ve tasted! Definitely recommend popping in!

Nanima catered for our birthday celebration dinner at home. They provided a wide variety of delicious Asian dishes for all our veggie and non-veggie (and gluten-free) guests which they delivered for us to reheat at home. Nicky and Lonnie were a delight to deal with and provided us with excellent and exciting food at very reasonable prices. We highly recommend them and their delightful restaurant where the menu changes daily.

We had a delicious asian fusion meal last night at Namina. We were a large group of 14 who came for an early supper before going to a gig. The freshly cooked canteen style counter service meant for a quick delivery of meals.

What a place! My partner and I went for an early lunch and was pleasantly surprised! Lonnie and his wife have cultivated a unique dining experience where there is no fixed menu, meaning that every time you go, you get a surprise. I ordered the Vietnamese Pho, which set my day perfectly. A must visit!

This was our first visit to Nanima but we felt so welcome it was like eating with friends in their home. Lonnie showed us the amazing menu which changes daily. We went soup starters, one Thai and one Japanese. Mains were stuffed pepper and salmon with noodles, rice and salads with a zingy fresh lemonade. We finished with chai and Indian sweets. The food was authentic, full of exciting flavours and prepared with love. The atmosphere was friendly and their approach is sustainable. There is no waste and people bring in containers to fill and takeaway. We'll definitely be back for more!

Love this place and it's become our go to restaurant to celebrate because we have such a great experience every time. We've been for a new job, a birthday and now a wedding anniversary. There's always a great vibe. The food is varied, exciting and delicious every time. The staff are lovely and make us feel so at home.

Amazing place, the owners are so nice and friendly, super tasty fresh food with a lot of variety...everyday new dishes all made from scratch. Particolary love the soups and noodles I'm very picky on my coffee and food as I'm italo Ethiopian chef myself and the coffe and food here is perfect I usually come here to study or before work and is just a calm coxy relaxed ambiance. Definitely my favourite coffe shop/ restaurant in Brighton. Very highly recommended

Story time: I discovered this restaurant as I was walking past it to go to a bakery for a particular pastry I wanted to try as a birthday treat to myself. The bakery didn't have what I wanted, so I decided to walk down to the pier & enjoy the sound of the waves. Then I started to get hungry & remembered I had walked past Nanima. I circled back to the restaurant & was met by a friendly man who explained how there's no set menu & the dishes change daily. That particular day, I decided to go for some coconut rice, chickpea curry, a paneer spinach pastry & a chai latte. With some friendly small talk, the man discovered it was my birthday & proceeded to celebrate me by singing happy birthday & clanging some cymbals haha! Then he kindly gave me the chai latte on the house. How lovely! I got the order to go & didn't bother to get the food heated as I planned to continue walking around a bit before heading to my accommodation. From the time I bought the food to actually eating it was probably around 3-4 hours. I heated everything up in the microwave and OMG! My whole room smelt DIVINE from the food. The beautiful scent wasn't just a fluke because everything tasted equally as divine! How does 4 hours out of fridge food heated in the dodgy glamping pod microwave taste so good?! I happily consumed the bundle of joy on my plate whilst watching a Christmas movie & declared the day a wonderful birthday! - End of story time - If you successfully got to the end of this review, just stop what you're doing & head to Nanima for a delightful meal, hurry, RUN, why make your tastebuds live another second without the taste of Nanima on it?! Go! And enjoy!

The food is good, wide choice. Well cooked and delicious. As well as healthy. The front of house poor. The man has poor customer skills, his negative energy really dominates. He did not make us feel welcome. The door was left open even though we were cold. He required us to huddle into a corner by the door, because it would get ‘very busy’- no one came in. The woman serving did her best, but it didn’t feel like a happy relaxed workplace. Spent almost £50 on 3 people’s lunch and had to leave quickly because we did not feel warm and welcome. Will not be going back.

We used Nanima to cater for a small corporate meeting . The food was delicious and plentiful , and Nicky and Lonnie a pleasure to work with - accommodating to our requests and very flexible. I would recommend to anyone looking for catering in the area.

Can’t stop coming back to this place. Run by a lovely couple who are incredibly welcoming and offer impeccable service but incredibly personable and feel like old friends already! I am addicted to the Chinese/asian chicken broth soup which is heart warming and perfect for the cold winter days of late. Yesterday I also chose a keema pastry that is knock out good. As a bonus i bought a jar of their home made Archaar which is stunning. Highly recommend!

Popped in for a takeaway and the selection on offer all looked delicious and fresh. I ended up having the shakshouka with coconut rice. It was really tasty and reasonably priced. I will definitely return to try other dishes. Thanks also for the great service.

This was one of the best meals I've had in Brighton, well worth a visit if you are kemp town way! Really friendly service, fresh food, and everything tasted so good that we ended up eating everything when we were planning and having half later :)) 10% for NHS as well was a really nice touch!

My Brighton bestie has been really positive about this restaurant for years now, and today I finally ate here. I was not disappointed!!! The food was amazing; good portions, subtle and clever flavours and so fresh & wholesome. I LOVE Nanima's food so much!!! I had tarka dahl soup plus a side of coconut rice, great combination and super satiating. I also tried a wonderful vegetarian pastry filled with potato and veg and spices, topped with cheese (I think). It reminded me of masala dosa but better!

We love Nanima and it was our top choice for a celebration meal. Our three courses and drinks were fabulous. We enjoyed a culinary adventure with delicious dishes and drinks from countries that included Korea, Japan, Afghanistan, China and India. A perfect celebration in a comfortable and welcoming restaurant.

Went in randomly to get a coffee flat white and croissant, long story short, flat white delivered in a latte size cup (red flag) and the milk had been boiled to lava level and burn my tongue for 2 days and the croissant while was warm not asked for was floppy as if microwaved 🤣 what!! So I returned the coffee for NO credit or new one as it's easier to never go again worst experience in years, they should stick to the indian buffet as the skill for coffee is just not there

I highly recommend dining at this warm and welcoming family-run restaurant. I visited for the first time today with my family and as we don't live far, we will definitely be returning to try their varied offerings. The dishes we had today were very tasty and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients. There were meat and non-meat options, rice, noodles, soups, dhal, all of which we love. A lovely selection of cakes and pastries too. We're excited to have found this little gem in Brighton.

Really exceeded expectations. The passion of the staff is evident, which comes through in the consideration of the menu and the food itself. The owner took the time to go through the menu and process, explaining how his wife cooks from scratch and with love, and you can feel it and taste it. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Brilliant food, poor service and environment. I went twice; the second time I was very happy to show this place to my vegetarian friends. But the experience was terrible. The owner was fighting with his wife, their shouts were so loud that even the music did not cover them. I never came back again.

First time visiting and definitely won’t be my last! The food was absolutely divine and the staff were so welcoming and friendly! The coffee was to die for and the wine paired with my salmon dish was perfect! Homemade dishes that you know have been made by someone with a lot of love and passion in what they do! Great for a light bite or a full meal with a wine! Love how you can choose whether you fancy a tapas version or a full meal! Next time I will be trying the beers too!! Fantastic evening and highly recommend!

Awesome food. Everything on offer looked delicious and we tried about five dishes in total. Super helpful people work there and they'll talk you through all the options. Great drink options - really enjoyed the juices, will come back for the tea spritz! Will return, highly recommend.

Great Twist of a Menu. There isnt one. You choose from the freshly prepared dishes on offer, which change daily. You can choose to eat in or take out. Friendly servers who are actually the owners. They will talk you through the dishes so you can decide what to have. Very reasonably priced. No need to book

What an absolute find! Took my 12 year old daughter and six of besties to lunch here as part of her birthday celebrations. The food was delicious and the girls all ate incredibly well. Real food that was full of flavour. They all had bubble tea too. Win. I had the best chai I've had in Brighton (and I've lived here for 20 years!) and a gorgeous lunch. We were so well looked after, the whole experience felt relaxed and really warm. I'll be back with my hubby, then my Mum and then my Brighton bestie!
