Best Indian Restaurant been going there for 30 years! Staff so friendly great food and service. Sometimes its busy but we dont mind as we always get the best table and service. Been eating there for years, even go at christmas. Never had such attentive staff. Food is always good. Love it.

I really do not understand how this restaurant is always busy! So over rated .. the service was not great and the staff are not over friendly. The food was very bland and all the dishes lacked something.. they were very tasteless. We have been here a few times and each time given it the benefit of the doubt as the place was always so busy , however after tonight we will not be returning. It seems to be full of old returning customers. There are so many better Indian restaurants in the area .

Got a carry out food was sublime would go again looks great to eat in at as well, staff were friendly helpful and if it's not on the menu they'll do their best to make it for you best Indian in benfleet I've tried

Been going to the Mumtaz for over 30 years, never had a bad meal there. Staff are always polite and friendly. Fri and Sat, expect a delay - as you would anywhere. Fabulous food.

Our table was booked for 8 and finally sat down at 8.45 with a cold wind blowing through onto us throughout our meal. Pomppadoms was on our table at 9.15 and finally our meal at 9.45. It was tasteless and salmon tikka wasn’t good. It’s a shame because I’ve been going here since I was 19 now 58 and I’m afraid that’s it for me. I do think they have got greedy and taking in to many people they clearly can’t cope with let alone the take aways.

Dry meat…I ordered £60 worth of tandoori, all of it poor quality and dry as a bone. Lamb fat on chops tasted disgusting. Chicken tikka 2 portions small and impossible to eat,prawns in curry were not fresh tasting….plus charged us £5 more than their online site .

Everything you would expect of a first class dining experience from a first class Indian restaurant

Stonckingly scrupulously yummy probably the best curry of the year. Absolutely soft lamb, difficult to find in some curry houses , tender chicken and spiced to perfection. The house wine Is delicious too

Took friends that had not been here before and after telling them how good it was we were embarrassed at the poor service we received. We were brought the drinks we ordered but it was an hour before our starters arrived. We then had another wait for the mains and had to chase to get drinks. Both courses were only warm when they arrived at the table but we were too hungry to complain and wait again but as they were very busy we expected the food to be freshly cooked and hot. They were trying to cater for too many people at the same time and obviously couldn't cope. Disappointing visit.

Not only is is the quality of food sublime, the staff are impeccable, the vibes are immaculate, the prices are phenomenal and best of all it is a decades old family run business that NEVER fails. So happy we live a few minutes walk away. Regular customers for years to come!

One of my favourite Indian restaurants food and service very good.

First time here: visited on a Saturday evening without booking and was seated upstairs. The staff were very friendly but the food took quite a while to arrive. Unfortunately my food was very bland and watery. No real flavour to speak of - perhaps it was an off night but unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend based on this visit.

Food was amazing! Had poppadoms and dips whilst deciding on the food to order, which were great! Had the lamb starter which was very good! The prawn curry main was great and so was the coconut rice! Didn’t have dessert because we were to full after everything but would highly recommend!

Gross dry food, had a shaslik which was sliced up? Normally cubes of meat everywhere else I’ve been. This was dry and the freshness questionable, the curries were bland also. Popadoms soft but the starters ok. The place itself is nice and modern, pretty clean but with sub standard food we will all head elsewhere

Went here for a meal and the chicken was very Chewy not nice at all and kept getting looked at when eating and pay be for it as felt like I had to as felt uncomfortable and not trusted and curry to runny and oil cleen place only good thing

Has anyone ever had a chicken Jalfrezi with NO CHILIES/NO SPICE ? Thats what you get from here. The jalfrezi looked and tasted like Korma . Waste of money and they are not cheap but they are CON ARTISTS. How strange these places never think there food is a problem. As usual when complaining you get the rude managment making stupid excuses.....Never again....

Hot and quick, and excellent. This is definitely the best Indian around. Just keep going back as it is consistently good. Can’t believe how they get it to you so hot and fresh. So tasty.

We were the family with children in the earlier post. Again we waited over an hour and a half for the starters, hence the children were restless and hungry, so began to play out of their seats, like any children would do. The food was not as bad as mentioned in the post before, it was very nice, but after it took too long to arrive. We will be eating here again.

I decided to order a take away as we haven’t tried Mumtaz before. Was told it was a half an hour wait, not a problem. When I got the order home it was luke warm and completely tasteless. This will be the last time I order from here.

Visited for the first time in years as our favourite Benfleet Tandoori was closed. Staff absolutely lovely but food all in all very bland. Unfortunately, I am still recovering two days on. My husband had mild stomach ache but I've been unwell for two days.

This place is always busy, so best to book for weekends. Food and service is always spot on. Nothing ever too much trouble. The waiters are very friendly and helpful if you need some advice about the menu.

The misses cut into her King Prawn Butterfly and it was so bad that I could smell the rancid prawn from across the table. Staff responded by saying oh well we all make mistakes. Ordered extra drinks but they forgot and in the end went to bar to get them. Generally table service was awful. Never going back.

I'm a little biased on this one as I've been visiting since the 70s, but I find the food very reliable, food is very difficult to get right every time but in my experience I found it good quality, not over flavoured or coloured, how I like my Indian food to be. It would be nice to see a few more traditional dishes, but for me I'd give a thumbs up every time.

We have takeaways from this restaurant every Saturday . The food is delivered hot and the tastes are wonderful. We have never had a bad meal. Friendly staff . Not great, king prawn butterfly was soggy and chicken tikka had hardly been marinated. Jalfrezi was watery and bland. However the tandoori lamb chops were fantastic and faultless but 1 out of 4 courses being good is unacceptable.

Have used this restaurant for many years and in all that time food and service has always been excellent. Our recent visit was for our anniversary all the staff did everything to make our evening special. We would not consider using a different restaurant.

Absolutely love it here! It's our family regular but I never thought to write a review until now. A family of 4 of us celebrated my birthday in the restaurant. The staff were really attentive and it's a great atmosphere. My parents started coming here and ordering take away must be near on 15 years ago! A really lovely, friendly group of staff who are always smiling and polite (in the restaurant and for deliveries). They do the best dansak and madras I've ever had! Impeccable service and I know the for as long as I live locally, the Mumtaz Mahal will always be my choice!

Popped into the Mumtaz, walk in, good service, friendly staff. Ordered a Bhuna, the best curry I have had in an Indian for ages and all the food was well cooked, popadams crisp and not greasy, rice fluffy and nann light and hot. Meal for two with a side £34. Nice

Have visited here twice in the last 2 weeks - both meals have been excellent.Staff recognised us on the 2nd visit and were very welcoming.Food is very good. Good choice menu and food very tasty - spicy but not overdone. Also very good value with side orders included in the cost of the main.Will definitely make this our favourite Asian restaurant, even though it is 30 minutes drive from our house - both worth the journey.Have sat both upstairs and down and would ask for a table downstairs if given the option.

Had a meal here with the wife. The starters were ok. Then it went wrong. The staff were more interested in my wife than me when I was ordering. Even she said she felt uncomfortable with the over zealous attention. The constant hand on her shoulder and the near the cuff remarks. When I asked his to kindly back off. His temper showed. That was the end of the diner. Packed up. Left a 10er amd went to the one down the road. Which was a far better choice. Never will go back to the mumtaz ever.

Didn't enjoy our food...very bland, chicken tikka had no spices or flavour, small portions , food was warm. Seated upstairs and beer was poured from cans although asked for draught. This is the second poor meal we have had so will not be returning. Really gone downhill.

First time, was seated upstairs, food was good, but the service was poor, as waited over and hour for our food, the toilets had no soap in them and no toilet paper, ordered more drinks and then had to order them again, as they didn't bring them.It was as though you were seated upstairs and forgotten about.certainly wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

This was my third visit to the Mumtaz, each time its been for a family celebration. Without fail the welcome from the staff has always been warm and friendly. The restaurant is spacious but i find the tables are placed a bit close together for my liking, its not a big problem though.The staff are attentive and quick to serve, the food is good with the standard indian menu content. On this occasion i had chicken korai , i found it to be a little bland compared to when ive had it in the past and it was only warm , not piping hot when it was served. Other than that all the dishes for the six of us were really good , including some good looking desserts.The beer , wine and food was all competitively priced and overall the experience at the Mumtaz was a good one, just as it usually is.Well worth a visit.

The service we received was good, accommodating a group of 10 easily. Table divided into two sections which was not the best set up as it meant part of the group felt separated from the rest. Although as they explained, it did make getting in and out easier.Drinks served promptly and the food was presented well. I think they need to work on the spices in their dishes. I had a Jalfrezi, which is my 'safe' option when in a new Indian. I have had hot ones, mild ones but always the best are then you can taste the spices (and not just heat). Sadly this dish tasted very much like the Homepride curry sauce, fruity and bland - it did not really look like the normal jalfrezi.I ate some of it but left a good deal, when pointed out it was not that good the dish was just taken away and we were still charged. I think if a meal is left then there should be some reduction. I would not go again.

Been here a quite a few times , always after a evening out at the pubs opposite .. service is always good , foods very nice and reasonably priced , it's a very busy restaurant and can sometimes be quite rowdy and noisy due to the amount of large parties of people they have , I wouldn't go here for a quite night out with the missus or for a couples night out with friends but I would certainly go again after a night out with the boys ...
