Mayflower in Castle Point

No longer the mayflower Indian restaurant, its under new management as a Bangladesh restaurant, wild ducks. Second night so a lot of learning on the job...... Food ok, tasty , with different foid offerings but rookie errors ie. Music to loud, Food not served at once, cold plates , lights very bright so lacking ambiance. However, staff welcomed feedback so hopefully improvements will take place . Pricing very reasonable in these inflationary times, sizzling wild duck and chicken Kathmandu particularly tasty. Will be back.

Got discount on delivery so great value. Got lamb madras. Everything super delicious. Lamb so soft. Sauce full of fresh ingredients. I'm going to go back soon.

Have seen a couple of poor reviews in February this year complaining about a grumpy waiter. I must say my wife and I had dinner last night and both the service and food was excellent. No complaints. We have been to this restaurant on many occasions over the last few years and have always had very good service from the staff. Den & Maureen

It's hard to find a good budget Indian takeaway, but this place is deffinately the one. Good value, good food, delivery was actually slightly early which is always good! Will be ordering again.

Sorry mayflower but your customer service is terrible . Your food is nice and flavoursome. Waiter is rude and not welcoming. Overall not a nice experience. Probably will think twice before returning

We visited as a family of 4 at 8pm on Friday night and the restaurant was not at all busy; three other tables. There was no sign of any staff when we walked in and after 5 mins a grumpy waiter appeared and we were seated. This waiter was very disinterested all evening. A second waiter appeared a bit later who was very cheerful and really lovely. Eventually we got our drinks and placed our orders. The dips that came with our poppadoms were freezing cold!!!! That’s a first!! And they were not good!!! The food, when it arrived, was tasty and hot but VERY salty! The grumpy waiter really spoiled things for us and was very slow to do anything at all considering how quiet the restaurant was.

Rude and unprofessional waiter, will never go there. We called before going to the restaurant and they said come we are open and no booking required. After reaching, they asked to come after 30min as they are still opening at 4:51pm. I asked if we can wait as outside it was cold but even in more colder attitude he replied we are not open yet, comeback after 30min. Even though officially it should be open at 5pm but we were 9min early but that also because they asked to come. Never went back and will never either.

Was really quite impressed with my dinner tonight. Unfortunately a slight mess up with my order, but thankfully this was corrected easily and a replacement was sent straight out, for Christmas eve the delivery was excellent. Food standards was excellent.

i ordered my food by phone to pick up,the service was crap,had to wait half an hour for my takeaway and on returning home half of my order was missing,i rang and was told they would try and get it to me,2hours passe an d by now i had eaten something else,so not only out of pocket but no meal,totally unnacceptable will not be returning to this establishment again,warning check your food before leaving

I ordered from mayflower Saturday evening, I placed my order by phone as I thought it would be much easier than just eat. Spot on half hour the door knocked, and a very polite delivery girl delivered our food with a smile 🙂 . The food was fantastic 👏 such lovely flavours and the chicken was melt in your mouth delicious 😋 I had my mate over and he said this was the best curry he's tasted and he knows his curry's. Thank you for such a brilliant experience from beginning to end. Looking forward to our next order.

really enjoyed my food and it was a very reasonable meal. What spoiled the meal was that the waiters kept bringing our order out a couple of plates at a time. The restaurant was not busy in the slightest yet, from my rice and main meal coming out I had to wait 10 minutes before my side and breads were brought out. I had to leave my dinner to get cold whilst I waited for the rest of the meal as I wanted my side and bread to be eaten with my meal, not after. It also took a long time to get our waiter to take our order. Unfortunately this has been the case other times we have been in the past.

Favourite Indian by miles, excellent quality food, great value for money, nice atmosphere and the staff are brilliant, if you haven’t tried Mayflower, you need to give them a visit. Highly recommend 👍

Had a lovely lunch here with two friends. We visit this restaurant regularly and have no complaints about the food. The service is rather slow but as long as you are not in a rush that's OK but what spoils it for us everytime is the person who serves us. He is not very welcoming and certainly not friendly. Got a feeling it might put people off, it's much nicer to go somewhere where you get a smile! Pity really

Fantastic food here, eaten many times in the restaurant and had lots of takeaways and never has the food been less than very good. Only slight point is the in restaurant service can be a bit amateur at times. But don’t let that put you off, the food more than makes up for it. Sadly it was empty apart from me and my partner last time we were there a week ago. :(

Visited Mayflower Saturday before lockdown. Received a warm welcome, good service and excellent meal. Had a takeaway meal last Saturday again, excellent food and meal was ready on time. Well done Mayflower.

Had the most wonderful meal here today. Me and family enjoyed the Sunday buffet (order as much as you like from set menu) I've eaten Indian food for 30 years but this was up there with the best I've had. Pleased we gave it a go and will be back for sure. Also to top it off 5 star hygiene rating !!! Don't see that too often these days. We ate here tonight. Place is very shabby inside and outside. Staff looked unkempt and not at all smart. We waited one hour for our food to arrive.it wasn't busy, only another two tables were in there.I had chicken tikka and had to ask for salad. Portions are small and very salty. Wont be going there ever again. Worst indian meal ever. Didn't even get a chocolate with the bill.....unheard of.....and only got £15 discount instead of £20 as it was weds eat out to help out!!!!!

Came in here with few friends. Waiters did not seem interested in serving us what so ever. Waited 15 minutes for drinks to arrive and another 10 minutes for poppadoms. Food was ok but service is very poor. Shame really as the restaurant does look nice from the outside.

Very very impressed. Been to many Indians around this area and they have been disappointing lacking flavor and quite often expensive. So I thought I try this Indian travelling from Leigh on sea to pick it which gave us a 15% discount on menu prices. Thought we would just order basic food. Because if they can't cook the basics then why pay for expensive specials if they taste no good. But we were so surprised. The lamb biryani had so much flavour the lamb was tasty. The bombay potatoes were so tasty. The lamb vindaloo was spicey but had so much flavour unlike alot of Indian takeaway where they just poor chilli powder in to make it a very hot tasteless dish. The pilau rice was cooked very well. The vegetable curry served with the biryani was full of flavor and not sloppy. The bread was delightful.. So all in all have I found the gem. Will be going back and trying some chefs specials. Thank you for a lovely full of flavor takeaway. And I might add the pictures are ok are takeaway we also had 2 papadums. 2 chapatis and 1 peshwan nann. £27.85.cant complain.

Had a Takeaway (obviously due to corona), very well organised in restaurant to allow us to collect the food. Strict distancing, masks, gloves. Well organised!! Food was delicious, very good indeed. Great flavours, fresh and not too oily like some Indian takeaways. This was our first time at Mayflower, can't wait to eat from here again!!!!! Well done and thank you

we went to this place on the spur of the moment,called a couple of friends who live just round the corner from the mayflower we all turned up nat 7.30pm on a Saturday and we had the place pretty much to ourselves popadoms came up quick enough as did the drinks lagers and vodkas, three ok starters and four assorted curries with rice nans and some more drinks the food was ok service a little on the slow side due to the phoned takeaway orders taking priority, the food was just ok nothing special wont be rushing back there is some parking to the rear and some on street, you could squeeze a wheelchair in just about we all thought the £100 pound bill a little on the high side for what we had eaten and drank

Ordered a delivery which took nearly two hours to arrive. Unacceptable. The food is ok but Pink Chilliz down the road is much, much better. The mayflower is also more expensive. It’s a shame because I would not go to the restaurant now based on their delivery service.

We really love this place after trying several Indian restaurants in the area we have settled on this one. Very friendly staff food has taste and good portions we have takeaways but prefer to eat in we took 8 of our friends there a month ago and they all said it’s was very nice and tasty. I’ve noticed that it is being refurbished well at least I hope it is as we will miss it if closes. Thanks

Visited the restaurant on a Friday night with two friends. The place was quiet for a Friday night, but I’ve been there before under previous management and they also seemed to have some quiet nights on the days you wouldn’t expect them too. I would imagine the location doesn’t help. Especially on a cold wet January night. Parking is available behind the restaurant and in the road opposite. The food was amazing. The homemade meat samosas were a different class from the mass produced rubbish others are knocking out. The chefs special Chicken Curry was one of the tastiest curry’s I’ve had anywhere. My friend is gluten intolerant and was surprised by how many GF options there were on the menu. Would definitely recommend and would definitely visit again. Hope the locals use it more.

Outstanding food and service. Lamb chops are divine. Both meat and vegetable curries are delicious. Always a warm welcome at The Mayflower. We highly recommend you visit.

Very friendly staff, clean airy surroundings and fantastic food at very reasonable prices. I’m also gluten intolerant and they have a fantastic and very wide variety for me to choose from, with the menu and staff being very geared up towards a number of allergens.

With my partner ordered from the set price menu, two courses. The food was of a good quality, really liked the bhindi (okra) bhaji. Not to happy with the chapati, it reminded me of a tortilla, perhaps it's the way the chef prepares them. Overall a good experience.

I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was lovely and of a very high standard. Service was prompt and the staff were very polite and attentive. The Mayflower was very clean too. The price was reasonable.

We have now been to the Mayflower three times. Each time we have been given a warm welcome from the staff and presented with excellently cooked food. We have never had to wait very long for the food to arrive and it has always been delivered hot and tasty. My wife was again given a cup of hot spiced Indian tea which she always enjoys. Well worth a visit and we will certainly visiting the restaurant again soon.Dennis and Maureen

Arrived at 6.30, popadoms. Drinks. Ordered by 6.45. Food didn’t arrive until 7.45. That’s not good enough. The food was nice. Staff friendly. Good value. But far too long to wait.

The restaurant is immaculate, the service attentive and the staff very polite and friendly. The manager is a lovely guy and always speaks to my girlfriend and I and makes us feel welcome.

Living in the local area we have passed this reastaurant on many occasions and have never thought about it as a restaurant we wanted to visit as from the exterior it looks nothing special. However, last Friday we decided to pay it a visit as the reviews were extremely good and basically all said the same (don't be out off by look of the place and that the food was excellent). So in we went. The staff were very welcoming and there was about a dozen or so customers sitting at various tables. We ordered our food and it came in a reasonable amount of time. My wife and I both found our meals very tasty and had no complaints. As it was our first visit they even offered us a free short to finish the evening. My wife enquirered about Indian Spice Tea which they made for her especially. We definately recommend this restaurant and we will certainly be visiting it again. Dennis and Maureen from Leigh on Sea

Great place for a Sunday buffet lunch.

This was our second visit and when we arrived it was empty. Our first visit had been superb. The decor is a basic Indian style but it is clean. Staff very friendly. Ordered and the starters arrived after a little while and were superb. We then had a little wait for main course but it was worth waiting for. Do try the vegetable curry side dish! All in all yes it was fine and we will go back, but hopefully the 2 ladies who arrived after us wont be there or if they are perhaps they will talk a little quieter!!

I have been coming to different restaurants that resided on this same corner for almost 20 years and this might just be the best one yet. The chef's special chicken is one of the most deliciously made curries I have ever tried and every aspect of the meal and service was superb. I highly recommend this place and wish it long life.

Although we have lived in Hadleigh for a few years now we have never been pulled towards this restaurant. It's on the edge of the town and looks a bit uninviting from the outside . That was a mistake. We walked there last night to give it a try. We almost didn't go in when we got there as there was only one other couple in there. I'm glad we did though.

Excellent food and service from friendly and attentive staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere and a menu with some great chef's specials. Had a great first visit there and looking forward to many return visits. Recommended.

We live nearby and hadn’t visited the Mayflower since it had changed ownership. We left wishing we hadn’t stayed away for so long. The decor is a bit basic but so clean and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The drinks are a very reasonable price; a refreshing change not to get ripped off buying drinks. The food was delicious; very fresh and the chef was happy to cook something for my daughter which wasn’t on the menu (she’s a bit fussy!) All in all, a great experience and very reasonably priced. We will be back very soon.

This is our local and in the past it has been really good. my wife and me and gone vegetarian and therefore we ordered the vegetable curries.

Four of us visited this restaurant yesterday for the Sunday buffet, could not understand why it was not packed. The food was freshly cooked, although there wasn’t a large variety of choice the food was absolutely delicious.

This is a great little indian restaurant with really authentic flavours and spices. Everything was fresh and we loved the choice they had on the menu. The restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful.

So easy to overlook but this is a gem of a restaurant - the staff are polite and attentive and food-wise, it’s one of the nicest, it not the nicest, Indian food I’ve tasted. And very reasonably priced - definitely recommend.

We had a wide choice of dishes some unusual one s too lovely ,originally from brick lane these people know their spices , the sea bass was delicately spiced and the choice of vegetables dishes was an education as well as being good to eat , we all enjoyed themeal and will return

A new restaurant where the staff are trying really hard, truly fresh cooked food, flexible for dishes not on the menu and variations , great food throughout very reasonably priced , well worth a visit, recommended to all.

Booked this restaurant after reading all the 5* reviews and now having visited we are very surprised that it is rated so highly. First impression on entering was that it lacked atmosphere and the decor was very basic. There were quite a few people already there eating but we waited quite a long time before someone took our order. Quite a while later we received our starters most of which were okay, however, I ordered meat samosas and they were inedible. They must have been fried for a long time due to the colour and the fact that they shattered when I eventually managed to break one open to show the small amount of dried up meat inside. They should never have been served as the 'chef' must have known what he had done and bad on his behalf that he thought it was okay to do so. The waiter was informed and said they would be removed from the bill but when we eventually got the bill they were on it and we had to ask for it to be amended. We had to wait quite a long time again for our mains which was surprising as most people had left the restaurant. The food was okay but nothing to get excited about although my partner said his mixed grill was very good. The four of us that ate here have all recently moved to the area and been trying out many of the restaurants, however, this is not on our 'must go back again' list.

Having read reviews on this restaurant, though we'd give it a go..... very disappointing!!

I have eaten here three times over around three months (all takeaway home delivery) decided to eat here as it had good reviews and a 5 star hygiene rating, which for some strange reason is rather difficult to find with Indian restaurants. The first time food came really quick in half an hour or so. Food was all good and so I ordered again two weeks before Christmas from just eat. This time food took over two hours to arrive. I phoned them after waiting over an hour. I was told 15-20 minutes as they was busy with Christmas party's. I thought okay fair enough just a one off. My food actually took over another 45 minutes, so ended up taking over two hours and 15 minutes in all. As you can imagine I was very hangry by this point. Still I let it go and ordered again just over one week ago, what a mistake. Food came bang on one hour so not late. However the onion bhaji's were over cooked and rather hard (Still edible but not that enjoyable). Now it's the meat samosas that were the problem, I bit into a meat samosa and was disgusted. The meat smelt rank and didn't even smell like meat anymore, couldn't even describe it. It just smelt like it had been reheated many times or was stored far too long as the meat looked well overcooked. I didn't eat the meat samosas and was quite worried that they would give me a bad stomach. On all occasions tikka masala and pilau rice was good but nothing special considering the other problems I have had. I will not be eating here again now so time to find, yet again another Indian restaurant.

Best Indian food in the area . Would recommend to everyone. Chef will make dishes to your taste. Prices were good.

We have had a few takeaways from here recently and thoroughly enjoyed them so we decided to eat in the restaurant for a change. My daughter had tandoori chicken, I had the lamb chops and my husband had the chicken madras. We all really enjoyed our food and the service was good too. We will definitely return!

We girls gather twice a year for a catchup. But this could only meet mid-day as one of us was just out of hospital. I phoned to see if they were open but they said no. He asked how many for, told him, and he said he would open wow. The food was excellent far far better than the previous owners I really hope they do well. Such nice staff. Do try them you won’t be disappointed

I have been here with my wife and we visit at least once a month. The food is absolutely delicious and in my opinion the best Indian restaurant in Essex I have been to. The food is always freshly prepared and they will get the chef to make you a speciality from scratch even if one is not on that evening. Staff are very attentive without being imposing and leave you to enjoy your meal. They are very friendly and the food just keeps getting better. They have got a new chef recently and he is superb. Fodo is amazing as I say. I hope it does well as we will keep coming to this restaurant.

We went to the Mayflower indian restaurant in Hadleigh, on sat 8th Dec.

Went with 6 friends tonight, the restaurant doesn’t look special but the food was fantastic. Everything was fresh, good quality and great taste. All seven of us thoroughly enjoyed it, very good service too. We will definitely be back. The only negative from anyone all night was that the prawns in the king Prawn Purée were a bit small.

Great Indian food. Spotlessly clean restaurant and lovely family staff. They have sought a great chef from Dehli. Food was fabulous.

Have been here before in it's previous guises as a Turkish restaurant and when it was the old Poona. Decded to try it after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and wasn't disappointed. Visited early on a Monday night and there were only two other customers in the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the only member of floor staff on duty and had our drinks and poppadum order taken quickly. These were a little slow arriving as was the food after we placed our order. This was surprising given that the restaurant was very quiet. However, we weren't disappointed when the food did arrive. It was piping hot and obviously freshly cooked which might explain the wait. In terms of taste and flavour, I can't praise the food highly enough. It was absolutely delicious and had obviously been prepared and cooked by a chef who knew his business. This was easily the best Indian restaurant that I've tried in a long while and look forward to a return visit in the near future. The bill was reasonable I felt at £58 for poppadums and dips, 2 starters and 2 main courses along with 4 pints of lager. Can highly recommend the balti dishes and the tarkha daal accompaniment was very tasty.

Looked at the tripadvisor rating and decided to go to the mayflower the food was lovely freshly cooked and the service was great no rushing like other restaurants was given time to digest each course which gave us time to savour the lovely spices would recommend this to anyone lovely and clean

My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time. Staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. The chef has just started there and wow is he good. We like our Indians although so many other restaurants are mediocre but this one was excellent. All of our dishes were very tasty, wonderful flavours and suitable portion sizes. Certainly one of the very best Indian restaurants we have ever been to over the decades! We highly recommend trying this one!

As others have said this premise has been a few eateries in the past. It is local to us and decided to give it a try and are glad we did. Was very quiet when we went early on a Monday evening. Great poppadoms while we decided on what to have. The starters were superb (Onion Bhajis and Mayflower special platter). We had Chicken Tikka massala and chicken korma with rice and curried veg which were all superb. To full up for desserts! Reasonable prices great food!

Have just finished a take away delivery, it took an hour to arrive,it was missing salad to go with starter, no mint sauce for starter (and bhajees,)food was bland,and portions small we're thinking of visiting restaurant but will definitely give it a miss now, maybe restaurant busy and they can't cope.

This was my first visit with my wife since the restaurant opened recently. The scores on the doors rating is 5 so we thought we would give it a try. Very impressed with the food my wife and I ordered. We did have some poppadums to begin with and for the main I had the chef's special chicken curry and my wife had the tikka prawn masala. Finished off with a dessert each. Didn't go overboard with the drinks and thought overall the cost for our anniversary evening was reasonable. We will be going back to try other dishes that we can compare to other places we've visited, and will also try their takeaway service. Found the staff very friendly and attentive. Worth a visit.

This was the Poona(poor) Indian for decades, then it was The Galata Turkish (which was excellent but ceased trading over night), NOW its the all new Mayflower Indian, went on the back of all the good reviews, and i can safely say they were all correct.

It's a shame the outside appearance of this venue didn't do the food and service justice. Really great food, extremely friendly staff and good value.

Ordered a takeaway for delivery - arrived within stipulated time. Food was hot and tasted good. First time we've tried this new restaurant but will definitely order again from them.

First impressions - why haven't they sorted their carpark out? Weeds, grass etc, not sure if you are going to tread in anything. A covering or asphalt or crushed concrete would be fine. Very pleasantly greeted at the door and the decor was nice. Service was excellent. I found the food to be very good. The cost of drinks however was far too high and a table of four walked out when they saw the prices of the drinks. If they are going to charge those prices then at least offer a complimentary drink when the bill is paid. All in all though, a very pleasant evening.
