Akash Tandoori in Castle Point

We went to Akash last night and was disappointed with what we had. We sat down at 7:30pm and food didn’t hit our table until 8:55pm. We had to ask for someone to take our order almost 45 mins after sitting down - thank god we had poppadoms l while we wait. When the food came, it was nice and large portions, no complaints with the quality of it. Although again, they only bought have the order out and we had to ask for the rest of it. When it came to paying and we asked for the bill, we then waited a further 25 mins and had to ask to pay. Sadly last night the service didn’t match the food. I wouldn’t mind if they were extremely busy or understaffed, but as far was we could see they had more than enough staff on. Not sure it’ll be somewhere we’ll go back to.

I love this restautant. It is my favourite place to eat. Food brilliant. Staff are great and so friendly.

Visited on a week day to take advantage of a midweek dine in deal, the food was delicious and was a great price. I would haven given 5-stars if the card machine had worked - I had to walk to the cash point and come back to pay, but i'm sure this was one-off!

...so wife and I went for a meal on Sunday, 20th November. Kamal (Kam) remarked that he hadn't seen us lately. I said that I have been suffering with acid reflux lately and thought it might be worse with spicy food. After some discussion we decided that it would be best if he chose our meal for us. For our first course we had Reshmi Kebab and Chicken Pakora. For our main he ordered Methi Chicken and Pilau Rice. We shares these because we don't have big appetites, it's an age thing! This was all washed down with enough Cobra lager and house wine. The bonus was; I didn't have any acid reflux, as Kam had promised. I haven't seen Methi Chicken on their menu? Thanks Kam.

These guys know there stuff. Top notch scram, great service and exceptionally good value. Cannot fault one thing. Cosy traditional curry house. If you're going for a curry in Benfleet or environs give them a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed

Absolutely. the worst curry EVER . Ordered Saag Paneer, called to say Paneer was missing and it tasted like salted spinach. Got asked if there was no cheddar cheese, they don't use Paneer, which according to the manager 99% of customers know about. Started eating, it was cold, when I called backI got asked then why are you calling after eating it. No apology -DISGUSTING DO NOT USE

Four of us went Sunday evening for the " eat as much as you like deal" only to find out the " dralmisnt what it seems ,costs £13.50 per person and we were told you.mustveach buy a drink this costs about £3 each, then turns out you can't eat as much as you like off the menu, you can order a starter and main meal plus side that's your lot , couldn't be bothered to do the calculations but at total of £16.50 each this barely covers the cost of what you are allowed to order , quality ok but meal spoilt by feeling rather " ripped off"

My friend and I visited the Akash for the first time yesterday evening. We had the £13.50 set meal, which was excellent value for money and very plentiful. Poppadoms followed by any starter, main course, side dish and nan or rice could be chosen, although fish and prawns would have incurred an extra charge. I specially enjoyed my sag paneer, and indeed neither of us could fault any aspect of our meal. I also liked the tables separated by attractive glass panels which provided an intimate atmosphere.

Always excellent , my regular Saturday delivery, Prompt and very reasonable, The staff are just 👍

Best indian food you could have to eat

Very unassuming restaurant. Never had anything but a good meal here over 7 years. Lovely staff, good prices for eat in and takeaway. Great range of Indian cuisine.

Order a Fish Bhuna from Akash and I was not disappointed. As a first time customer I was impressed with the polite and friendly service given when I collected my food. I was given a time for collection and the food was ready at the given time. The food was delicious and well packaged. Would highly recommend to anyone in the local area.

I always go for a king prawn dish and tonight I got tiny pieces of king prawn which would probably equal to around 2 full King prawns. My partner said the same about the lamb hardly any in his curry too. When it comes to prawn dishes these are quite expensive. So please show your customers some respect for the amount of money they spend on you. Will not be returning.

Ordered our takeaway over the phone..it was ready for collection in 30 mins..and was delicious as always..definitely my favourite Indian.. Thanks Akash

We have been eating here for years and it never fails as the best Indian in the area. Ordered the Kurchi Lamb for 4 people ahead of our visit, (they need 48 hours notice) and food was excellent.

Great food, reasonably priced and no issues with order and delivery time. Couldn't ask for more!

Disappointed. Arrived in good time. Dansal tasted of curry powder lentils few and far between. Onion bhajis very greecy. Pashwam man good and fresh. Bhindi bhaji disgusting, and the worse one is we've ever tasted?

My favourite, and I've tried nearly every restaurant and takeaway in the area. Friendly staff, great food, atmosphere. Love it.

Five of us had a reunion meal at the Akash tonight and cannot praise it enough. All our dishes were lovely, flavoursome and well presented. Delicious. The staff were really friendly and helpful.... special mention for Kamil who sorted out a car problem for us as well ! Lovely Atmosphere, attention to detail and all at a very reasonable price . We'll be back without a doubt.

I had been to the Akash with friends a few weeks previously & enjoyed the experience, unfortunately this was not repeated I brought my family along as we were out marking a sad occasion. It was extremely busy in the restaurant & takeaway service. We were asked to take a seat in a cramp area along with a pile of tablecloths & cutlery their was only room for two people to sit down so my husband had to stand whilst the public were in & out for food & the staff were quite uptight which immediately rubbed off on us, we were handed a drink & left there for 15 minutes no apology, we were then dragged to a table asked within 5 minutes for our orders which we were not ready to give there was a huge party sitting next to us with not enough room so we were then asked to move I did say I was enjoying the full customer experience & he said about complimentary drinks these were only offered when we had finished our meal & ready to go. We were gasping for a drink during the meal & had to grab someone in the end to get us water, the waiters all seemed very stressed & quite abrupt at times their anxiety rubbed off on us making the whole visit totally unrelaxed we couldn’t wait to leave. The food however was good but the atmosphere was terrible probably won’t go back now, what a shame.

There are many Indian Restaurants in Benfleet & we usually go to one of the other ones. However, thought that we would try Akash for a change & was really impressed by the standard of the food. Have been in here a long time ago & didn't think that it was very good. They have clearly improved since out last visit. Great value for money as well. Waiters very friendly & efficient. Will be back. COYI

If you have never visited Akash Tandoori now is the time to try it out. The staff are friendly without being ' in your face '. There is a large menu with generous portions of excellent food. To cap it all; you will be astonished at the low prices. A good night out on a budget. They also have a thriving takeaway business with free delivery for a cosy night at home. It is one of our regular restaurants because I do appreciate a bargain.

We often get takeaways from here and over the past year have seen standards slip. We have always made excuses or forgiven things that haven’t been up to scratch, like the time earlier this year where we received Supermarket nans on a Saturday night (they must have run out) or when the food’s taken too long. We decided to have a takeaway for a family birthday mid week. Food was quick and we are local. One of our dishes ordered prawn dhansak. The sauce was nice, however, it must have had less than 10 prawns in it and they were of very poor quality and tiny. They had that ‘jelly’ feel to them and were the type of prawns that were ‘savers’ or economy ones in a Supermarket. Even my chapati was going stale and dry. They were nasty to be honest. My son had chicken balti, which he normally loves, but he said it was just ok. We’ve had enough now and will try somewhere else next time. Akashi need to up their game as there is plenty of competition round here.

Yet again I’ll pull out an honest review .. why does it seem so hard for an order to be taken over the phone yet turns up wrong ... As menial as it sounds if I ask for spicy popadoms that’s really what I’d like delivered .. Food tepid on its 1/4 mile delivery , madras hot ?? More like korma hot , greasy naan and sag aloo that’s just boiled potatoes with spinach thrown on top .. not for me first and last order !! Sorry but listen when people place an order .. food eaten to a degree but I’d rather eat cardboard ..

Very nice food at reasonable prices

Called in here in impulse as we couldn't be bothered to walk on to our usual.Wow.....made very welcome and is now our first choice.Lovely food, and I mean really lovely, I could actually taste the spices !!!!Loved the prices too, and the warm.service.Just a fabulous find.

takeaway delivery ordered at 7.30 on a saturday night. The member of staff that answers the phone clearly doesn't want to be there - couldnt' be less friendly or helpful if he tried. 8.48pm we are still waiting - apparently our food is being packed and will be about 10 mins. With the amount of competition in the area Akash really needs to up its game

Went last night... we hadn’t booked but we’re fitted in ... we were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant and were appalled at the state of the floor... there were onions, pieces of popadom and dirty cutlery on the floor under the table... we highlighted this to the waiter who just said oh yes we had children at this table but made no attempt to clear the mess... the food came quickly but was bland and very watery... the staff seem to have a not bothered attitude.. my husband is in a wheelchair but could not remain in his chair as there was no room to accommodate him.. we had to transfer him to a chair and when he needed the toilet we discovered there is no disabled toilet and no grab rails in the normal gents... all in all a really bad experience and we will not be returning.. such a shame as we have frequented this restaurant many times over the last twenty years through several changes of management and have never experienced anything like last night... we have had takeaway and this has also slipped in recent months... sadly this was our last visit to what we once considered the best restaurant in benfleet....

Take away 80% of the time are spot on. Love the Pasanda and Baltis from here and never had a bad meal sitting in, excellent value Sunday to Thursday buffet

Meal for nine adults booked on a Tuesday at 730... Food was great and service spot on.... Not everyone was drinking but was still pretty reasonable... Xx just under 300 quid for 9 of us .... Will definitely be back again.... Thanks for a great evening

We have eaten in and taken away here lots of times and mostly the meals have been very good and consistently flavoursome and good quality....however the last two take always, standards seem to be slipping. We forgave the Akash a couple of months ago for slipping in what seemed to be like Supermarket Nans, we put it down to a busy night and let it go. This weekend our main dishes were all just full of a lot of sauce/gravy and not a lot else. One of our dishes was a prawn dhansak, which we’ve had many times, but this was different. Sloppier and a very small amount of low quality prawns. All our mains seem sloppy. We hope that this is again a one-off but it’s now becoming a bit hit and miss with what we get from the Akash.

Been coming to eat here for many years, it’s very hit and miss with the food. The food can either taste out of this world! Or just an average Indian. The food is a reasonable price but the drinks are a bit steep in price. The table service is a bit hit or miss too. The server can be friendly and attentive or vacant. There seems to be no medium. I always tend to go back now and again to see if it changes but it is hit or miss.

I have used this establishment for take aways many years and I have to say that the food has usually been good.

Food is very unhealthy(greasy) and oily. They got one of the main dishes wrong, didn't bothered to change or at least offer to change. All I heard was a sorry when questioned during checkout and the reason was I started eating!!! Also there are hidden charges which they don't make it obvious, of course when challenged they removed from the bill. Worst experience ever, not visiting this place again!!

Nos trasladamos aquí recientemente y han ido a este restaurante, tanto para llevar y comer. No puede ser criticada. He estado comiendo en este restaurante durante 23 años y siempre ha sido excepcional. La comida siempre es fantástico y nunca he tenido una mala comida, el personal es muy amable. Si se han mudado aquí, prueba el Akashi primera no te decepcionará.

My wife and I have just moved to this area and this was the first restaurant we went to as it was just round the corner. Food was wonderful, and staff very polite. Definitely will visit again.

Atmosphere is good. Food is excellent. Staff helpful,polite and friendly. Sunday to Thursday night's are cheaper but the food is still excellent..

We've been coming here almost every week since we moved away from our "local Indian", & have to say it is consistently good.This was a Business Dinner, so I pushed the boat out, & bought the most expensive thing on the menu-Kurzi Lamb.I say expensive at £65, but far too much for us 4, took enough home to feed another 4.And it was delicious - Chef & Waiters did us proud, Thanks Guys!My guests were impressed as well, so the Akash has gained another 2 Regulars.

Love this friendly place, good food and service X my brother and family go all the time and are known their, we are going again in November for our mums birthday as we know the food will be delicious the wine will flow and the staff attentive. The place isn't huge and is very popular so booking is a good idea

We didn't have the traditional Sunday roast so had the next best traditional dish! Indian @ the Akash. The service was great, the staff make you very welcome & are very hospitable. On a Sunday they do a deal for £10.95 A starter, main, rice, side dish & bread per person. Unbelievable value & really good food.

Wouldn't go anywhere else. The best food around and the staff make you feel like part of their family.

Four of us have just come back from a really good indian meal in the Akash. The ambience is nice, the food good and he service excellent. The Akash is a very good local Indian restaurant and I would certainly recommend it.

Indian restaurants in Benfleet are plentiful so to choose one over another there has to be some difference. The difference is the warm greeting you get from the staff here, they are genuinly friendly not over the top friendly. The food is pretty much as you would expect to find in a high street restaurant and prices are on par with other.

Fantastic food, very varied menu, staff also very attentive. My number one choice for Indian food, great value in the week as well with special offers

Went for a meal with friends at the Akash after a few pints in my local (the Anchor Inn). The restaurant is pleasantly decorated and comfortable. The music is not really to my taste, I'd always prefer some Indian music with my curry rather than UK pop. The staff are friendly and we were quickly seated with popadoms and drinks. The main courses arrived pretty quickly too and were enjoyed by all. My Shatkora curry was the best version of this Bangladeshi classic I've had in ages. My only complaint with the food would be the saag paneer. The one thing I really expect in a saag paneer is, unsurprisingly, paneer cheese but this was made with what tasted like melted mild cheddar and was disappointing. I can't fault the rest of the food though and the price was fairly reasonable. £20 a head for a good curry and some cobra beers. In summary, I'll definitely be back. It's a friendly and unpretentious tandoori restaurant.

After 3 Turkey Dinners ( 3 too many for me), 'twas time for proper traditional food on Christmas Day - A Curry!!!!This suited us fine - A walk down the road, a good price (£30 per head), No Cooking, No Washing Up, & most importantly, No Turkey!We ate & drank at our leisure-As many Poppadums as you can eat, a Plateful of various Starters, & the Piece de Resistance, the Main Course. We all (4 of us) had the Lamb Shank, at varying degrees of heat, a Side Dish each, 2 Rices, 2 Naans, followed by coffee - &, I have to tell you, it was delicious. Our only issue was we couldn't eat it all, we were so replete, but the trusty Doggie Bag was put to good use.I've been waiting years to find an Indian Restaurant that opened Xmas Day, it always seemed a good idea to me, & now that I've found one I think I should have kept it to myself - on informing friends of our intention, instead of getting ridicule as expected, received only positive comment - as I don't want to be queuing due to the demand!Throughout the year the Akash delivers to a good standard, today they excelled themselves. Well done, Joe & the Gang
