I went to the upstairs cafe at M&S. Hedge End yesterday afternoon with my adult son. The cafe was not busy but we still waited for someone to bother to serve us. The cafe was not clean, the many empty tables were littered with dirty plates & crockery & we struggled to find somewhere clean to sit. The floor under the tables was filthy, covered with discarded food. There was no brown sugar or sweeteners &Apparantly had been none for about 2 weeks according to one member of staff. My sons cappuccino was only 1/2 full & when I asked for the cup to be filled he ended up with a cup of hot milk! Not a pleasant experience. I will not be visiting the M&S cafe at Hedge End again.

The cafe was shut by 3pm on a Saturday!! The store is open until 9pm. If you don’t want to run a cafe close it. Sainsburys is next door.

We went to M&S cafe on a Wednesday at half past 4 last week and tonight. Both times we arrived they had stopped serving. We love going to the one on kingswood in Hull as the staff are lovely , friendly and make you feel welcome. Wonder why they close earlier on a Wednesday ?

Had a nice bacon roll and chicken roll from breakfast and lunch menu was very nice and green tea 🍵 . Clean and quite when we went good table service too.

Couldn’t make any substitutions to the menu. I don’t like runny eggs or baked beans so asked for extra toast and mushrooms. Was told I’ll have to pay extra for that. I did do but never received them. It was all cold when delivered as was the espresso coffee.

Lovely fresh breakfast delivered to our table quickly and with a smile. Good choice of hot food along with cold choice too. Bit of a queue for hot drinks but worth the wait

Understaffed and tables piled high with dirty plates, cups etc. The limited staff on there best and you can’t help but feel for them when they continually apologise to the customers. Come on M&S, even Sainsbury’s Cafe next door is better!

Poor staffing levels, probably over the busiest period of the day.Poor layout ingress and egress, and low quality food and premium prices. Surely not what is expected of M&S

It was crowded, with the all the staff working flat out, and tables being cleared as quickly as possible, so could not complain. One member of staff Jacqui, was calm and polite and smiling when bringing out the food... asked if we needed anything else.... I watched her chat to children while still busily delivering the meals.... a real asset.... don't lose her!

First time eating food here went to upstairs cafe very clean and good service. Food was lovely definitely recommend hopefully be back soon

I used to love going to M&S for lunch, it was a real treat. But something has happened to M&S cafes of late, and it isn’t good. Tables are left uncleared, messy serving stations and staff that act if is you are in inconvenience just being there. Not good.

I attended today with my daughter who for personal reasons struggles to eat out without planning ahead. She picked an item but I misheard and ordered else. When it arrived and wasn't what she was expecting she became upset. I explained this to Kat who discreetly discussed this with Sam in the kitchen. My mistake was quickly rectified without any fuss and lots of discretion. Thank you to both. No one can ever know the story behind those eating in the cafe and I can't thank them enough for their understanding.

Food and drink quality taken down a couple of levels, price not though. Sainsburys now better. Also opening times now reduced. If M & S don't want to continue providing a café service why can't the store go back to what it was originally and have a food area between it and Sainsburys so a proper café/restaurant can take the business on.

We visited here for lunch, it was busy but I expect better standards. There were 3 people cleaning tables at a snails pace. Sadly not keeping up with people looking for seats. My husband ordered the tomato soup with a roll and had a scone and jam. He said the soup was delicious (which is why I've given 2 stars), his scone was stake and not very impressive. I had a jacket with cheese and beans. The potato was small for an average jacket potato. The beans were about a desert spoon amount wuth a sprinkling if cheese. No butter and nit butter offered. The potato was room temp and the beans were only slightly warmer. I would have complained at the time, but seeing how many people were being served I thought it would take forever to get it rectified. This was the downstairs section. I think maybe you need to monitor how many people are in and warn at the door that there maybe a long wait or no seats, or you need more staff. The wait was extremely long for food that wasn't great. The lady who brought the food to us struggled to find us with your tracking service too. We had it clearly displayed on the edge of the table so as it could be seen easily. We grabbed her on way back as we could see it was our order. You expect quality from M&S, this is tough times for us all, businesses included, but you charge a certain price and for that, the customer expects quality and good service.

Popped in for a lunch break with my Wife and Mum. We all found the restaurant Staff very friendly and helpful and all of our meal choices went down well. Mum uses a wheelchair which is sometimes inhibiting but no problem here, so thumbs up

Cafe was busy but had plenty of staff to keep things running smoothly. Food was tasty and and coffee was very good! Plenty of cakes to choose from and the do a lovely spiced iced bun.

Either they can't get staff for the kitchens or they're cutting back on staff. Which ever it is, it still took them 25 minutes to serve pie, gravy and mashed potatoes. And, we were not the only ones. The young lady on the adjacent table had waited 30 minutes for her lunch.

My partner and I eat out a lot and every now again, just want something simple like a jacket potato, bowl of soup or a bacon roll. And M&S; is perfect for that. Clean, welcoming, good food and very friendly staff. Love it there, one of the best.

We arrived for a lunch snack and found most of the tables were littered with dirty crockery and debris. The toasted sandwiches took a long time although it wasn't too busy with customers. There were enough staff on duty but no management evident.

Cappuccino tasteless and lukewarm Americano very weak....the place was too busy to take it back but the lemon drizzle cake was quite nice....won't be back in a hurry.

I know trying to find gluten free choices is not easy, but M & S advertise on their notice board gluten free options available. So when I asked what they were for breakfast I was told a chicken and avocado sandwich or a biscuit were the only options and they were out of the sandwiches.

Just back from meeting friends in M&S; cafe which was one giant bum fight. It's like something from the dark ages where you stand hopefully with your tray in hope to be served before you die. When you do finally get your coffee then it's finding a clean table in the end you just settle for a dirty, sticky table that you have to clear yourselves. M&S; should be ashamed.

Went with a friend during a shopping trip. We had the soup which was very tasty, as were the accompanying rolls. The coffee was also very good. Filled a hole pleasantly.

My wife remembered that you could order an afternoon tea for two with hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches for an all-in price, and since it wasn't listed among the displayed prices, we enquired. Now, we don't drink regular tea, only herb tea, and we also don't drink coffee or alcohol, but in many cafes and restaurants that is no problem at all. And it isn't here either, really - as long as you don't order the afternoon tea. We asked if we could replace with something else. Yes, with coffee or Prosecco. No good to us. Could we have hot chocolate instead of tea or coffee. No - but we could pay for it extra. That, of course, made it a lot less of an attractive option, so we ended up just ordering our own drinks and sharing a toastie instead. The food and the drinks were fine, but were of course disappointed that we weren't treated with more flexibility. And, waiting for the toastie and the hot chocolate, we looked around, and noticed that the place was far from in order. The floor was untidy and filthy, with food leftover, napkins etcetera on it. That reminded us of the table with cakes we had passed, which was also full of crumbs, dirty cake plates where cakes had been on offer, etc. It's handy to be able to have something to drink and eat when you're out shopping, but M&S; haven't made this the most attractive place to do so.
