We popped in for a quick bacon sandwich and coffee before shopping on Saturday. Quick service, tasty bacon sandwiches and the reason for this review is to call out the service we observed to others. The server with the brown hair and beard obviously knew his locals, and listening to him chatting to his regular clients was heartwarming, as for many he may be their only interaction that day. He was explaining to a lady that he was due to be off and that he would be back and that she wouldn’t see him for a few weeks. The young lady that delivered the sandwich to us was equally charming but both my husband and I sat listening to the chat across the counter and both said how nice it was to hear. So well done to the server, great customer service goes a long way!

Well staffed café but unfortunately not organised. Lots of people running around achieving very little. The coffee and mocha was barely lukewarm. After such an elaborate preparation it wasn’t mixed either. Coffee with chocolate sludge at the bottom of the cup. At £12 for a mocha, cappuccino and two cakes I would expect far better. Never again.

The service we received was outstanding and the young ladies that serviced us were so polite and well mannered. They were able to cover my needs with needing an alternative milk. The food we all had was amazing. We had a piece of Lemon and Coconut Cake which was rather light and fluffy. Would highly recommend to anyone that fancies a quick bite.

Average cup of tea, reasonably friendly staff. Plenty of seating, nice porridge. Like all these sorts of places it is more expensive than the quality justifies.

Not from Hastings, but always make a point of visiting here whenever we’re in town. Always have nice coffee and the food is good, nothing outstanding, but nice enough. Staff are usually friendly too, which is always nice. One thing that annoys me though, is the usual one person on their own taking up a table for four. Visited today, numerous two seater tables available, but a woman reading a newspaper, looking like she was settled in fur the day, taking up a table (which included a full sofa and two chairs) and all she had was a small coffee. Luckily we managed to find somewhere to sit, when someone else kindly offered to switch tables. The newspaper woman was there when we got there and still there when we left. We noticed other families unable to sit down and leaving, yet she couldn’t care less!! Perhaps staff could ask single diners to kindly sit at two seater tables in future.

I have been coming to Mr Bean 1066 coffee shop for many years now. The staff her are always very friendly and polite. There is lots of seating available inside and outside (park it’s smoking area). There is also seating available upstairs. This cafe offers many food options from toasted sandwiches, fruit, cakes and pastries to pastas and salads. There are also a large variety or hot and cold drinks available. On this occasion I had a banana milkshake and a custard slice which were both delicious! I would highly recommend this coffee shop and will also be returning myself.

I find the staff very unfriendly and either cold and rude, or awkward. The food supplied by 1066 is nice, although I still miss the full menu MR Bean used to provide. The coffee isn’t great in my opinion and the cold drinks are quite overpriced. But it can be a nice enough spot to visit now and again.

Extremely rude male manager with a terrible attitude. I certainly won’t come here again or recommend to anyone. He made my specific order wrong and then got huffy with me and rolled his eyes when I mentioned it for him to correct. He remade the drink and chucked it onto the counter and slid it over to me, asked for the money and gave me no eye contact the entire time. He was just awfully rude. The food and drink is also quite overpriced for the location and type of local customers especially as they got rid of the better menu with more affordable and a larger variety of options on it.

I work around East Sussex and have to dip in and out of a lot of coffee shops and places where I can work in between working with young adults with learning difficulties and teaching them to Travel safely to and from school and college so experience a lot of different settings. However now I have definitely found my favourite. I came to Mr Bean last week and straight was welcomed with friendly smiles, enjoyed a yummy cappuccino and found a new very relaxing area upstairs to do my work. I felt comfortable to stay as long as I needed whilst still enjoying my coffees (and racking up my stamps with their loyalty card). This week I came again straight after working with a learner and received the exact same friendly welcome. I sat downstairs this visit and still very calming atmosphere for me to work and then joined by a friend for coffee. I then came back again for lunch!! I chose one of their baked potatoes with chicken and mayonnaise feeling, and reasonably priced for what I received and was absolutely delicious with an added bonus of salad, the food was brought over to me very soon after ordering and service was excellent!

I was looking forward to visiting Mr. Bean in Hastings as friends had spoken highly of it. It is possible that I was just unlucky in my choice of food, namely a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. The bread and cheese were poor quality and the dish was brought to the table without cutlery. The accompanying coleslaw was tasty though and the lettuce was fresh. There was no diet Sprite or cola available in the cold drinks cabinet and service at the till was slow and a little chaotic. My companions enjoyed their Strawberry milkshakes however and they say the coffee is always excellent.

We would choose this over the likes of the various chain coffee shops. Offers a nice range of food and cakes etc all made in their own bakery. Loads of outdoor seating to watch the world go past, with large umbrellas for shade. Lovely. They also have a bakery on the other side of the Town Hall.

Mr Bean offers one of the best hot chocolates in town. With inside (on two levels) and outside seating this is a great place for a quick bite and a refreshing drink before doing some more shopping. loo's are upstairs if you need them, I'm not sure if they have a disabled loo on the ground floor though. The only two drawbacks are the tiny, itsy bitsy queuing space and the staff always seem super rushed, so much so that they rarely chat with customers which is such a sad thing because when you work with the public a little chit chat comes with the job, right?

Went in for much needed cuppa and something to eat! My husband chose a bbq chicken pain which seemed the only choice without cheese, and I had tuna and cheese toasted sandwich! The first let down was the panini came WITH CHEESE and not much chicken which was not good ( should of stated on menu that it comes with cheese) as for my sandwich, it had so much mayonnaise in the tuna it was quite sickly, also the cheese not got much flavour, overall very dissapointed@ Tea was very nice tho!

Nice and clean. Good variety of seating with more upstairs if you want a quieter drink. Nice looking range of cakes and scones but we went for a jacket potato apiece with our coffee, which was very tasty. Good value for money as this little gem is cheaper than alot of the larger chain coffee shops. Friendly staff too. Only thing that stopped it being excellent for me was the fact that ladies and gents share the same loo facilities. Just a personal thing but I'm really not keen on that arrangement! Would certainly make a return visit.

We live locally but go to Hastings a lot and me and my wife always make a beeline for coffee at Mr Bean. There is ample seating both inside and out ( in fair weather ) and the coffee is always consistently good, especially the Mocha Coffee that simply smacks of rich chocolate and have to say, my favourite. The staff are surprisingly cheerful ( under heavy pressure sometimes ) and there are too many cakes and savouries to resist temptation.

All I wanted was a large cup of coffee. I'm on crutches so I asked for it to be taken to my table. It duly arrived, on a tray, but the waitress had slopped some in the saucer. I emptied the saucer onto the tray, and made a lot of noise rapping the saucer onto the tray. I then waved to the waitress and got her to get me some sugar. She didn't seem very pleased. I found an unused serviette on an uncleared tray on the next table, which was very wobbly, and used it to dry the saucer. The coffee was very good, but the place is let down by general sloppiness - uncleared tables, for instance. It is very popular.

We called in at the coffee house on a warm day wanting a light lunch. We were told we had just missed this but we could have anything from the counter. The food was ok and drinks as your would expect but what didn't match were the 2 levels downstairs was as an earlier reviewer had noted both tired and not the best hygienically and yet upstairs which was not in use was by far superiority clean and beautifully refurbished and our shoes did not stick to the floor as we walked up there to visit the ladies room. Time for an upgrade of the downstairs decor and service me thinks.

The coffee is good and the products from 1066 Bakery are always lovely (good sausage rolls) however, the hygiene and overall presntability of this place is not acceptable. The upstairs has had a refurb and looks nice, but downstairs is in need of a lick of paint and serious refreshment. The coffee station, providing milk, sugar etc. is always filthy and covered in sticky finger prints and crumbs. Behind the counter needs cleaning more as you can always see clutter and mess whilst you are in the queue. I've always been told to avoid eating there because of its hygiene, yet always took this with a pinch of salt -- until I was served toast (which wasn't even toasted it was done to the consistency of stale bread) which had mould on it. The female staff member apologised immediately and went to prepeare me a fresh slice (Wonder if it was from the same batch) but the gentleman who redelivered my toast didn't say anything, just handed it to me. I've worked in the industry for 10 years and think Mr Beans could be excellent -- but the decor and cleanliness have unfortunarely now put me off eating there for a while.

Just needed to grab some lunch and kill half an hour between appointments, and thought this seemed a rasonable option. A mistake. Scuffed furnishings and grubby floor, so an overall dingy look. I ordered a ploughmans because that's usually a safe option, but it came with a dry burger bun instead of a baguette, and the cheese was sliced sandwich thin, rather than being in a chunk. So not a safe option at all. Avoid.

I ordered a ploughmans at £6.50 to come with no salad dressing which I dislike. It arrived smothered in mayo so I asked for another and the waitress was quite unpleasant about it. It was basically a soft roll, 5 slices of flavourless cheese, half a dozen very soft wrinkly grapes and a few wilting salad leaves. Basically a not very tasty cheese roll for an exorbitant price.

This is a nice old town pub with very pleasant staff and a good choice of beer etc. There is a good atmosphere here plus they have bands sometimes. The food was mediocre , and not much of it , I had meatballs in a spicy sauce that wasn’t spicy at all , this was served with bread and a small salad. For £18 it was disappointing in taste and size . I had treacle tart for pudding with ice cream and once again not that tasty and a very small amount of ice cream. The choice on the menu is also very small.
