Mowgli Street Food in Oxford

The service was great, and the food was a mix — some dishes were delicious, while others were just average. The restaurant’s atmosphere and layout were also really nice.

We visited for my son’s birthday and the food was absolutely delicious. So much choice and quick service. Would highly recommend a visit.

Great place, amazing food. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that you have to ask multiple times for a drink and that they forgot the food. They handled this very professionally and mistakes can always happen, but it seems in general very understaffed.

I had high hopes for Mowgli Oxford, especially given the beautiful decor and the buzz surrounding the place. While the atmosphere was inviting and the concept exciting, unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to expectations. The dishes we ordered looked great but lacked the bold, punchy flavours you’d expect from Indian street food. It all felt a little muted – like it was missing that final kick of spice or seasoning to bring everything to life. That said, the service absolutely stood out. Our waiter, Tommy, was an absolute gem – so sweet, attentive, and accommodating throughout. He really went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of, which definitely softened the disappointment with the food. Overall, it was a mixed experience. Great service and a lovely setting, but the food just didn’t deliver the flavour we were hoping for.

If you're looking for a dessert disguised as a main course, the Mother Butter Chicken at Mowgli might be for you, as it was incredibly sweet. However, if you're after a savory dish, I'd steer clear. Similarly, the Mango Tonic mocktail was a major disappointment – overwhelmingly bitter and I couldn't finish it. The ambiance was neither particularly good nor bad, but the food was definitely not up to par.

Interesting place for supposed Indian street food. Not sure Indian tapas is the way forward. Like all tapas you are left asking why have I paid so much for so little. The food was acceptable and the service was good for our group of 6 people. Like most resturants now they apply a service charge so unless you check it is an automatic tip.

As we entered we were greated by a lovely young gentleman by the name of Jason.. He kindly seated us, offered us our drinks and gave us some time to look over the menu. He even recommended a couple of dishes when we asked for his advice.. Service was exceptional and food. Was very prompt, warm and delicious! The ambience in the restaurant set of a warm and relaxed mood. I must say we left the restaurant extremely happy and satisfied. 25 mins for the drink to arrive, so not off to a great start. Seem to be a shortage of staff (mothers day) our greeter disappeared and we appeared to have been forgotten. Then Ben came to the table as noted we were still waiting for food to arrive. He looked after us from then on despite running around serving lots of other tables. Food was amazing as ever but more staff needed. This restaurant needs more Ben's!

I've been to this place once before sometime last year and I really wanted to go here again today because I was craving for their spectacular 'Bhel Puri', so I dined here today, and I'm so glad I did. I had the 'Bhel Puri' once again, as well as the 'Angry Bird' which I also had before (as it was so good) but then also ordered 'Roti Bread' and 'Aunty Geeta's Prawn Curry' (the last two which I hadn't had before) All of the food were really delicious and the staff were friendly too. I really love the interior of this place, it's so beautiful.

An excellent, tasty and enjoyable dining experience all round. Went with my wife and nephew, ordered and ate the sharer plates Very sparkly and with the liberal use of mirrored back wall, appears both larger and more open whilst still having a degree of separation and privac. So that you can laugh, chat and joke without worrying about your other diners. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and sufficiently attentive without being intrusive. Enjoyed the experience, more than happy to recommend.

I recently visited Mowgli restaurant for the first time, and hoping for a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, the poor service made it one of the most frustrating meals I’ve had in a long time.

We had a lovely time Mowgli restaurant, a fantastic opportunity to meet Anca Bulea , which she was making a perfect dinner for us , good food and lovely people including the environment as well .

Updated - March 2025. Service was terrible. The male waiter was too busy taking to the barman and couldn't care less about the few clients in the restaurant over the lunch period. The food is great but credit for this goes to the kitchen staff. The waiter as mentioned was awful and then had the ordasity to apply a 15 percent service charge. I used to really enjoy taking my family to this place for lunches while mooching around Oxford. Not anymore.

Came here to celebrate my birthday with friends and family, and we were not disappointed! Friendly service throughout, wonderful surroundings and atmosphere and just divine food!!!! We will be back and I will be recommending you to everyone! Thank you!!

The food was excellent and I would recommend to anyone that likes street food. Our waitress Anca was fantastic. We didnt want for anything and she was great with the kids aswell. Great service and food.

The food just wasn’t very nice, my girlfriend didn’t eat anything and what I ate I didn’t really enjoy. For £75 for two as well is very expensive. Mowgli’s looks pretty but the food just isn’t that good

Went for Mother’s Day, very indifferent service . Ordered a starter - they had run out of- a different one was set down on the table when we told them we hadn’t ordered they took it away and then another waiter came and plonked on the table . By that time was so hungry - we just ate it. The mains tasted ultra processed like it came out of a jar and not made fresh.food was lukewarm/cold, curries were sweet. Puri was not cooked - was soggy and soaked in oil. Very disappointed and can’t understand the review saying food was good.

Anca especially was so lovely and went out of her way to make our experience amazing!!

We had the most splendit experience on Mowgli. Yesterday, despite not having a reservation and the place being full, Anca managed to find us a table. She was also our waitress and provided service beyond expectations, with great attention to detail even though she was very busy. Great food as always . Anca is a superstar - thank you so much!

I would not recommend this place if you're craving for some good Indian food because they aren't even close to Indian flavors at all. They name the dish butter chicken which isn't the butter chicken served in other Indian restaurants in the UK, forget about the ones in India. The food is mostly bland, and sweet and here I'm not talking about making the food spicy because I do understand that the majority is intolerant of the chilli but I do believe the food can be made better with spices other than chilli. Additionally, the staff was not very polite, they were doing the job like a favour.

I've been many times before but this was a bit disappointing. Food was a little bland, I think the expansion of the chain has dropped quality. Service was bad too. They squeezed us into the last table, which was nice of them. But then left us waiting 40 mins to take plates away and another 15 minutes for the already-ordered dessert. Then we had to ask for the bill twice and still go up to pay. All whilst we were the only people in the place.

I can not rave about this place enough. The service is off the scale. The food is LUSH. BIG shout out to Tommy. I met him in The Charlotte St branch in london. He remembered me. Top top friendly professional service. Also got to meet one of the chefs who they are sending to India to see their charity work. Thanks Tommy. Thanks All.

Watered down food which isn't even fresh. A disgrace to indian food

Food was delicious 😋 more than enough food on the sharing menu. A great touch having the chef choose the dishes. I will be buying fairy lights for my own house - it made the venue really tranquil. I would recommend The Sherbet if you are driving - lovely warmth of ginger through sharp raspberry and lime - very refreshing 😁

Had been on my list for some time and finally managed to visit on 7th March. Lovely walking in to swing seating and lights everywhere, very inviting. As our 1st visit we decided to go for the street food sharer. We ordered a couple of mocktails which were lovely, Mowgli twister and The sherbert I think they were. The yogurt chat bombs came out 1st, we were advised to pop in the mouth whole, quite a mouthful but the taste explosion was amazing definitely my favourite dish. Bit confusing that they send them out as 5 pieces on a 2 person sharing platter? Then came the sharing roulette, we opted for meat and the gunpowder chicken and the Fenugreek kissed fries and Roti breads. Not massive portions but plenty for us. Up until this point we had been enjoying the good food and lovely atmosphere, however this soon changed as in came a group of males, who had clearly been drinking and became very loud and unfortunately spoilt the mood. We waited for our ice cream, which very rich and luxurious but we decided we couldn't listen to them any longer and went up to pay the bill and exit. It really ruined what had looked to be a lovely experience. I did discuss with the waiter on paying the bill, who apologised and was very sympathetic. I'd expect that kind of conduct in a sports bar during a football match not in a nice restaurant. I must also point out that my mowgli award points were not added for my visit after promising he would make sure they were. Overall a lovely restaurant serving delicious food that was unfortunately spoilt by loud lager loutish behaviour. Such a shame

Atmosphere and Service are really good however the food lets them down, we went in for a late lunch, ordered the chickpea curry and fish curry, the chickpea curry was very very bland and watery, we had to ask for salt as it had no seasoning. The fish curry was ridiculously sweet, almost like a bowl of caramelised onions, would not recommend if your looking for an authentic indian.

Food too expensive for the taste but it's fine. The atmosphere is good and the swing seats were pretty cool. I had a chilli mango margarita which was great. I had super green curry which wasn't great. Mum had house chicken which tasted really good. Angry bird was good, the coleslaw was okay. Would return to try something different on the menu.

Butter chicken, house chicken curry were good along with puri and roti. Chat was crispy and tangy.

Great food as always, consistent with the high standard at all Mowglis I have been to (9 so far). The view from the roof garden terrace is a real bonus ! Service was excellent, restaurant was very popular on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended !

I came with 2 friends and the server said they are booked and busy. The entire place was empty.

Food was very mediocre in taste. Lacking in spice (flavour, not hotness). Felt bland. Serving sizes are also quite small. Our waitress was great but getting hold of staff is almost impossible. Literally zip in and out. Less of a critique on staff (understandably working hard), and moreso on their numbers. Perhaps they were short-staffed that day or management needs to hire more.

Food as great, service was a little slow however. Would definitely recommend the lamb chop fries.

Really nice Indian. If you are looking for a twist on what we’d call Indian food this place is it. You won’t find lamb rogan josh or chicken tikka masala on the menu here. What you do find is very interesting dishes that are full of flavour and feel like more authentic food. Prices are fair for its location and the service was good.

Good: Nice atmosphere Friendly staff Pretty fairy lights Bad: Dishes are too sweet. Lack of vegetarian options (there’s daal, chickpea curry and paneer. Where are the actual vegetables? Not one in sight). Holy Cow - a poor potato’s recreation of the South African bunny chow. Chai - with a tea bag, really?! Finally, it’s 2025 why are people still writing “Chai Tea” and “Roti Breads” on the menu?! Both words literally mean the same thing. It’s not Indian food.

Delicious meal and a special mention for Claire, our waitress who was very helpful in recommending dishes. Only minor points preventing 5 stars: Ambience is a bit noisy for conversations. Maybe it would benefit from some acoustic padding on the ceiling. The metal serving dishes and plates don't seem to help keep the food warm. I think it would be better to have candle-lit food-warmers on the table.
