Mowgli Street Food in Cheltenham

Atmosphere and decor is lovely! But they chuck you off your table after your allocated time slot without telling you this in advance, and when I called half an hour after leaving to ask if I’d left an item of clothing there they said they didn’t have the time to check and that I should just call back in the morning incase it was in lost property. I thought they weren’t as friendly or helpful as they could’ve been

Foh were absolutely incredible, service was exceptional, especially female assistant manager ( I think her name was Beth ) , she checked up on us a few times making sure we were happy with everything! Food was an absolute taste sensation the chat bombs, wow, our server jay was friendly and attentive. Cannot wait to return.

I wanted to take a moment to share a recent experience that really stood out. As someone who travels often and has visited many of your branches, I’ve always enjoyed the food – it’s warming, filling, and guilt-free. But this visit was particularly memorable because of the outstanding service I received from Tamsin and Beth. Even though the branch seemed a bit short-staffed, these two were working seamlessly together, handling everything like a well-oiled machine. Their energy and attention to detail were impressive, constantly checking if I needed a refreshment or an extra side dish without missing a beat. It was clear they were fully committed to making the experience great, and they absolutely delivered. I honestly think Tamsin and Beth would make a fantastic team running a branch, or even hosting a show together! Please pass along my thanks to them for making my visit so enjoyable. I’d wanted to try Mowgli for a while, so when I finally got the chance, I went for their £25 per head Street Food Sharer. I figured it would be a good option to get a feel for the menu. First up, it has the Yoghurt Chat Bombs. These were followed by the Gunpowder Chicken and Fenugreek Kissed Fries, then the much-anticipated Tiffin Sharing Roulette, which promises a chef’s selection of curries, Roti and rice. The meal finishes with Salted Caramel Ice Cream. It is good value, they didn’t have Roti the night we went, but the substitute they provided worked well enough. The flavours were solid, the sauces had depth and we had a nice time eating and chatting away. However, if you’re expecting variety, be aware that “an assortment chosen by the chef” seems to mean multiple takes on chicken and potato. Which after a chicken and potato entree was a bold move. Both are versatile ingredients, and to be fair, they were handled well. But don’t expect anything beyond those two staples. I asked the waiter if it ever differs, and they confidently assured me it doesn’t - so if you’re craving lamb, beef, or something else, just go à la carte. As I said, we enjoyed the meal. The vibe inside is cool, the service friendly enough, and the Pinot Noir I had was decent - so no complaints there. The salted caramel ice cream was a great way to round things off, and I walked away full. The flavours were good, and I’m curious to try more of their menu. Next time I’ll skip the chicken and potato done five ways. Variety is the spice of life, and Mowgli is surely all about the spices.

I've been here a few times now, whilst I dont think its awful I also dont think it's that good. If you want an aesthetically pleasing restaurant then its perfect, if you want delicious and authentic Indian food/street food, then go elsewhere. In Cheltenham there's Bombay and Co and Deepam that do what Mowgli claim to do but far better.

My first trip to mowgli was unique was greeted by a very friendly hostess suggest different items on the menu made my time there very enjoyable. Bit disappointed we were given 2 rotis to share between three of us and the majority of the staff stood in the corner waiting for us to put down empty plates and dishes. Food was excellent with lots of unique and tasty dishes and a overall great experience Would recommend if you are visiting Cheltenham.

We went out for lunch and decided to try mowgli's it didn't disappoint the food was amazing we had the sharer option the hole meal was fantastic the staff couldn't do enough we will definitely be returning

Incredible place to dine, 2 adults and 2 children attended this venue and had the sharing option. The food was quick and tasted absolutely amazing! I couldn’t get enough of the chat bombs! Will definitely be back soon!

The food here is excellent and I always get the office workers tiffin for a delicious 4 dish surprise. We tried the yoghurt chat bombs for the first time and they were divine. We argued over who would get the 5th one that you can’t really split into two! We’ve got a Mowgli passport, so we love trying different venues to get our passport stamped to hopefully get money off our 5th different visit.

Booked 17th November with 3 friends whilst attending Cheltenham races. Fabulous from start to finish. Special mention to Tamsin who served us, great personality, knowledgeable and always a smile on her face. Will definitely go back when next in Cheltenham.

An exceptional restaurant, the staff were very attentive, the food was excellent very well presented and the portion size per couple was perfect. The food quality was very good, well presented and priced in line with the portion size we received. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough we went to celebrate a birthday in our group and had a very memorable experience, thank you.

This restaurant is great for a fun and unique atmosphere with the decor and seating arrangements (on swings), 4 of us got a sharing plate which was very disappointing - despite being recommended by the chef - and the service was less than accommodating. I also believe we went on an evening where there were staff shortages.

I've tried nearly everything on the menu, and I’d say the most authentic dish is the chaat bombs, also known as dahi puri. I know the staff likely share the same instructions with all customers, but it was amusing to be at the table with my family, all of us being South Asian, and getting a tutorial on how to eat them. We were just thinking, “Okay…” 😂

Popped in with mum & dad & from moment we walked in the staff could not have been nicer, explained the menu with patience as my 70 something mum is blond 😂food came in stages with some great tasting dishes. Good cocktails. The staff made this place and I will be back.

I came to Mowgli in Cheltenham as was recommended. Beth was looking after us all night and did an amazing job!!!!!!! Food was absolutely delicious, we did the £25 sharing menu, really good value and you get a little bit of everything.

From entering this magical atmosphere on we we very happy to have chosen Mowgli as our favourite restaurant: rich and diverse menu with super food in portions that you can manage; lovely service with people who obviously like to work there and behave like family (and not just “staff”). We definitely will come back!

Highly recommend this restaurant for not only the food but the overall experience. The restaurant is beautiful and such a lovely atmosphere. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Our server Beth C was just the best. She went through the menu with us and the service was faultless. The food is out of this world and have never tasted anything like it. Quite an impressive looking place. Lots of fairy lights and novelty 'swing' seats. The menu looked interesting but the food wasn't authentic and I've probably cooked better in my time. For such a smart looking place, they seem short of staff. One man did everything and although he was polite and attentive, his appearance nearly stopped us walking in. He looked like he'd just been skateboarding before work. A shabby shirt, shabby t-shirt and shabby shorts. Shorts!?!?! In such a nice looking establishment? Smarten your staff up, Mowgli.

Had an excellent evening at Mowgli tonight. Our servers, Evo and Tamzin, were very attentive and gave great recommendations on what to order from the menu. The food was delicious and the place had a great atmosphere, we will definitely be returning soon!

This was a last minute decision for us for dinner and it was amazing, the decor is lovely inside and the food was so good! We did the sharer option for £25 each and it was really great value for money, the chat bombs were unreal! I had the Delhi cocktail which was amazing & they did alcohol free beer for my boyfriend. Service was fab too!

Visited on Tuesday night, been a few times and have always been really impressed. Food is always lovely and service is always excellent. Thank you so much to Evo, who always goes above and beyond to recommend what to eat. Atmosphere is always excellent, would highly recommend.

After waiting 3 hours got the table. We booked table for 10 ( 6 Adults and 4 Children ) Food was really horrible. Each and every curry which we order is sweet like sugar. For example Goan Fish curry it’s like we are eating sugar curry. We order 8 portions of rotis. Staff came to us and said sorry we have 2 portions left, so we order 5 portions of puries. After she came again and said sorry we have only 1 portion of roties left. We order gum powder chicken it’s too hard and looks like we are eating burn cardboard. Order prawn curry and found only 2 prawns in whole curry. I can say totally waste of money and time. We all didn’t enjoy at all the food and service. So we can’t recommend this restaurant.

This is a top place to go- the food is sooooo good and everyone that works there seems to be very attentive and helpful. We went for a graduation celebration & it was awesome, the lady with the short hair and the one with dark long hair and lots of tattoos were both brilliant- we will be back

Good location and fantastic decor however the food was average at best and super expensive for what it is. Service was brilliant too but I can't go back as there are many better options for much cheaper at driving distance.

Let’s start with the positives. - a beautiful atmosphere, gorgeous decor, makes you feel very cosy and warm - all our food was DELICIOUS. Highly recommend the lamb chops and the fenugreek fries and also the lamb curry. Mocktail was also very tasty. - service is amazing, all the staff are very friendly, the gentlemen who served us went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Our son found the kids chicken curry too spicy and he brought over soya milk to help him, and he offered yoghurt too. When the milk didn’t work he swapped his meal for another. Having a friendly waiter definitely makes the meal more enjoyable Now onto the cons - portion sizes are on the slightly smaller side, you may have to order a starter or something else to make you feel full. - they add quite a high service charge and a charity donation into your bill (which you can take off) but would prefer they just didn’t add it in the first place as it feels awkward asking to remove it I think the pros far outweigh the cons and will definitely be returning. The food is really tasty and definitely something for everyone We asked to add a £5 tip onto the bill because our waiter was very friendly and helpful

I went there with my fiancé and we were both blown away! Our server, Bethany, was spectacular and so attentive. She was bubbly and approachable and amazing at her job. She is a real asset to the team ! All the tram worked amazing together and could see they were enjoying themselves while working which rarely happens these days ! Weill definitely be coming back !!

We booked an early evening meal for 2, place was busy, lovely atmosphere with the swinging seats & fairy lights. The food was also very tasty, fresh & such a lot to choose from. We decided to have the meal for 2 which included starter, 3 main curries, rice & dessert. It was a good decision. Lots of flavours, choc brownie afterwards delicious too. Friendly & attentive staff. Would recommend & will definitely be going back again soon.

Happen to come across this place by accident as we went the wrong way, was captivated by all the pretty fairy lights and the chairs in swings, so i wanted to have dinner here, food was really delicious and authentic, service was great, we really enjoyed ourselves, such a beautiful place with great atmosphere😊

Beautiful food, really enjoyed the Holy Chow and the fries. Really tasty and really good service. So much so, at the end of the meal, the bill was explained with the charity and service charge. Was given the option whether to pay or not. I did, well worth money, again, very tasty.

Great ambience. Service was good. Food tasted alright. But the portion size is very small! They expect every individual in your party to order 3 dishes ( starter, main and dessert) and even then some might feel empty after the meal. The dish is served in 1960's Indian lunch box fit for a kid. If you are are expecting to eat a lot then better carry a card with very large credit limit.

Nothing Indian about it, over priced for the amount you get, too trendy. You are better off going to a real Indian restaurant. There is a service charge that you feel guilty having to opt out of, plus a £1 charity charge. A bit cheeky if you haven't read the small print at the bottom, and wonder why the bill is a bit steep.

We had a really lovely meal last night. Food is genuinely delicious (small plates so order at least 3 per person), atmosphere is great and the swinging chairs made it feel special. What really made the night though was our waitress, I don’t know here name (she had short hair and is a vegetarian?) but she was brilliant! She was friendly, informative and really positive which is so rare in hospitality these days. We’ll definitely be back!

Went in here because we were captured by the menu outside but were pleasantly surprised by the decor inside all lit up with hundreds and thousands of fairy lights and oh, there are swings you can sit on! The young man served us gave a sample of starter/nibble call chaat bomb which is really refreshing. Love the food before we even got our order.

Visited today. Food and service very good. Was a bit disappointed that they wouldn't accept a gift card my daughter bought for £50. It was over two years old so apparently wasn't shown on their system despite my daughter offering to show the confirmation email. £50 in their pocket then.

I would start by saying the food is amazing one of the nicest meals out with regards to the food and I cannot fault the resturant on this. The decor of the resturant is brilliant and such a nice place to eat out. What let our evening down is the appalling service we received from our waitress. No engagement no personality to start with, three of us were sat down and within a minute she was asking what drinks we wanted. Explained one of our party was in the bathroom so we were waiting to see what she wanted to drink and she just huffed and walked off. When she came back asked if we had been before and then tried to explain how to order and the amount of dishes etc but half mumbled didn't really explain then walked off after taking our drinks order. The expensive cocktails we ordered were sat on the bar for a good 10 minutes before they were brought over to us and we are still waiting for the water we asked for 4 days later. The highlight of this was it was listed on the bill without charge as Jug of water and 4 glasses but never turned up. As soon as we had taken our last bite she was clearing the table and asking if we wanted dessert we explained the four of us would share two desserts and we ordered some more drinks. When the two beers arrived one had a glass one did not but we weren't asked by the "cheery" waitress if we wanted one or not. We asked for the bill which came quickly and then straight away she appeared with the card machine saying "how do you want to split it?" I explained oh just give us a minute and off she went put her coat on and left. Clearly we were her last table of the evening and she just wanted to leave. We were discussing with our friends regarding the 12.5% service charge which they add on for you (horrible practice let the customer decide) Then another guy appeared to process the payment which we rounded up and went. When you are spending £200 on a meal out you do expect better service than we experianced which is a real shame as the food and the resturant itself are fantastic.

We had dinner on Easter bank holiday Sunday and had a fabulous time. It had a great atmosphere, unique surroundings, and excellent food. We’ll definitely look for another Mowgli.

Great dishes! Really enjoy the Curry from here. The restaurant looks a little romantic for someone going to eat on their own (as I do when I work away) but glad I didn't get put off by this and went in the 1st time. Now been back at least 5 times and great each time. I order the "workers Tiffin" which is 4 dishes consisting of 1 rice, 1 veg and two meat dishes all picked by the chef, so total "lucky dip" and great way to try different dishes you may not usually pick. Loved every dish each time I have visited. Would definitely recommend and will go back each time I am near one.

As regulars to Mowgli we’re used to the brilliant food, service and overall experience, however everyone at Cheltenham took things to another level, even by Mowgli standards. We visited last night with our two dogs and totally appreciate that this is not always easy for some restaurants, so we called ahead and also emailed to ensure that they knew we’d be turning up with a couple of big dogs. We could not have been made to feel more welcome, everyone working that night made a real fuss, not only of the dogs but us too. Naturally, the food was great (as always) but what really stood out was how AMAZING every single team member was. We managed to get a couple of names, Lewis (who I think was the manager on duty) along with Esme who were particularly brilliant. Cheltenham, you’re an absolute credit to the Mowgli brand, thank you so much for going out of your way and making us feel more than welcome. Jamie, Sophie, Moose and Rosie.

Came here for Easter dinner with my mother and brother. The service was wonderful throughout, with Jay our lovely server guiding us through the menu and how everything works! The food was absolutely delicious, so much flavour and variety! It did not disappoint! We all enjoyed the food and overall experience here. We will definitely return again!

We had an meal early on a Saturday. Having frequented the Oxford branch we thought we must give the Cheltenham branch a try, having moved to the area. The food and service were exemplary. The waiter was helpful and friendly. In Oxford they are a bit more reserved than in Cheltenham, but that applies to every where we go. The only minor let down is the Bel Puri was served in the smaller round tiffin tins and in Oxford they use the larger oblong tiffin tins. But this is just my greedy liking for Bel Puri. We will be going back as we used to go to the Oxford restaurant.

My partner and I visited here last week. Initially, I wasn't looking forward to it - I hate onions and coriander!! But from start to finish, the staff were absolute class. Out server recommended dishes that were less onions and coriander and made sure the kitchen were aware and removed where possible - I didn't feel like a burden. The food was delicious. The space is lovely and relaxing, busy and lively atmosphere, and you're not rushed by anyone. I honestly can't wait to go back.

Our first visit to Mowgli was a sensation - we loved the food and Vibe Beth was a great ambassador helping us through the menu. Sticky chicken was our favourite. We will be back with friends next time.

It is always disappointing to be let down by your heroes. I had only been to Mowgli once before but I was really impressed. This trip was less enjoyable. There were only two of us. Our preferred beer was unavailable, our first choice of main course was unavailable. Hats off to our waitress Esme who was a delight despite all of this. The starter was ok. My railway lamb curry was good. My companion's butter chicken was severely lacking in chicken. The management did not charge for the butter chicken even though it had been eaten. All in all a mixed bag. I will not be rushing back.

This was our first visit to Mowgli’s and from start to finish we had a great experience. From our welcome from Michael who guided us through the menu and offered recommendations, to our attentive waiter Jay who took time to make sure we were enjoying our meal and had a good chat with us after. The service was excellent and the food top notch and we can’t wait to return.
