The business owner was so friendly and I had Fish and chips mushy peas and curry sauce, the food was excellent best fish and chips I’ve had. If you have not had the food you must try it fantastic

Ordered a large cod and chips between two of us with small appetites and there was more than enough! Fish was tasty and in a nice batter too. Chips were just shy of being chunky but were hot, and well cooked.

On holiday visiting Emsworth we fancied a takeaway fish lunch. We ordered 5 cod and chips and being seniors we were offered the chips free. All freshly cooked in an eco box the batter was crispy and portions plentiful. We sat by the mill pond so an enjoyable lunch all round.

Was told about Mother Kelly's from work colleagues as I was looking for somewhere that does not do fish swimming in batter or grease. I wasn't disappointed the fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were nice and big not like the small ones from my local shop.

Had to travel from Bedhampton but definitely well worth the journey, even though we have a chip shop at the end of the road. The fish was cooked to perfection, crispy batter and not running with grease chips were lovely too, also had a portion of mozzarella sticks very tasty, partner had mushy peas with his and he says they were much better than our local. Would definitely go there again, highly recommend.

What a place! Amazing team so friendly and always smiling nothing is too much trouble. The food is yummy! Best curry sauce around. Would highly recommend 👌

Lovely lady out on the front dealing with a take away area full of people orders coming out of her ears with little attempt of help or support from any of the other stff that was in the building the "chef" watching as she's trying to do everything. No help with curry sauces no help with even building boxes to the point the custers are helping her.. the restraunt staff popping heads round the side every now and then to look.. The "Chef" then says anyone else ordering it's going to be 20 minutes.. then goes onto say he's going for a fag. considering it's classed as an open kitchen, he's aware people can hear him, and see him. Huffing to himself like he's busy.. There is no team work in this place and I feel sorry for the lovely lady doing it all and when I left was left cooking because the "chef" couldn't be asked to do his job.. Moaning stating this place is a joke.. What a lovely place it used to be shame the staff don't seem to care to put a little effort in.. Food was alright can't ask for much more when it's been sat there a long time..

Consistency is key and this place has it pretty much nailed down. I get food from here on a regular basis and it’s always does the job. It’s the only fish and chip shop in Emsworth so without driving it’s your only option. The staff are all really nice and the prices are good, I recommend if your local or in the area.

Usually love the chips from here but tonight they have a floury, grainy texture like they are coated in something it’s really not a pleasant texture in my mouth. Couldn’t even eat half of it

The food tasted amazing. The service was also I credible as it had a 2 minute wait for some fresh food. It's the atmosphere that was off. It was completely empty with no one in, making it really quiet and awkward. Most fish shops have like 2-3 people in but not this one. Suppose this could be a + for the service though but that's what happend for me.

Batter was nice and crispy as were the chips, the wife had the scampi which she really enjoyed

Mother Kelly’s is my local fish and chip shop! We use it often. I work as a Senior Carer at Willow Lodge Care Home in Southbourne, when Marie found out our Chef was off sick she very kindly stepped in and provided Fish and chips, battered sausages, fish cakes and Savaloy sausages for our residents and staff at no cost! The residents absolutely loved it! It was all freshly cooked and delicious!! Thank you so much to Marie and her team for their generosity and kindness! I will be back soon!

Title says it all really! Great value and what a fantastic team they have! Fish was really tasty and the chips were to dye for! Really enjoyed the curry sauce as well! Will be back for sure!

Me and my partner where down from London for the day to see family and we had friends that recommend this place so we thought we’d give it a try and what I can I say other than… WOW the fish was beautifully cooked all golden and crispy, the chips where lovely and my partner who’s not a big fish lover chose chicken nuggets and was very impressed with the quality of the chicken used it was proper chicken breast chunks not like some that you can get that are like mush and there service was really good they where very helpful and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Just wow What can I say they gave Harry's a run for there money and won the best piece of fish iv ever had the sausage was delicious and the pie was lush to top it off they were closing and still did me a skinless fish the son of the owner was an absolute delight very polite and respectful think I found my self a new favourite worth the drive from chichester just for the food thank you for a delicious lunch

I travelled up from the isle of wight for training and thought I'd try mother Kelly's! I had jumbo battered sausage, chips and pineapple fritter.. The food was lovely and portion size perfect! I had a 20 min walk with the food back to the hotel and they food didn't go soggy and maintained their temperature thanks to the packaging! Will recommend this fish & chip shop!

Been in here twice both times nice cod and white bate, good chips. A quintessentially family run British fish and chips shop. If you have been to seaside you have to stop here on the way home. English rule 101.

For my birthday meal I asked for Mother Kelly's fish and chips. My husband collected them and as usual you didn't disappoint. The meal was well cooked, very tasty with a good portion. Thank you for such a lovely meal. If I could give more stars I would.

Wednesday night 20th Jan 2022, its always worth me travelling to Emmsworth 12 mile trip one way, and on the 20th was no exception, the fish was again perfectly cooked, always very polite, but tons of chips yum yum yum, we throughly enjoyed Our fish and chips again, well done fellas george

We live in Emsworth and have had Mother Kelly's fish and chips at least once a month. The batter is always perfect and the fish cooked perfectly and the chips are fresh. The service is very good. Only two people are allowed in the shop and there are barriers for protection against Covid.

I visited this take away for the 1st time tonight after threatening to do so for a very long time, I ordered haddock & chips from the server and was told that it will take approximately 10 mins to cook by the chef, which was fine and after the initial shock of the price at almost £10, I then continued to pay by card. After receiving my meal I walked to the car and decided to eat it whilst in the carpark while it's nice and hot, unfortunately when I opened the box I was deeply disappointed with the appearance of contents, as the chips were piled right on top of the freshly cooked fish breaking up all the batter, I could only just see that there was fish underneath, sadly the chips were barely warm even though I didn't have any salt or vinegar on them, I tried getting as many of the chips as I could off the fish finding a long dark hair in the process, it just all ended up looking and feeling very off putting especially with the hair, so I ended up leaving it all and threw it in the car park bin which I'm not happy about in the slightest.

Despite passing the big Mother Kelly's at Portchester regularly, I've never really tried them until recently. The queue for my regular chippy was long so I find an alternative. Why have a left it so long. Friendly staff and quality fish and chips.

Quite possibly the worst fish and chips I've had, fish all dried and over cooked and chips were nothing special, I wont bother coming back.

We visited Mother Kelly’s tonight expecting a high quality takeaway which some of the reviews seemed to recommend. We were disappointed by the limited menu, and particularly as several of the things we asked for were unavailable as they’d ‘run out’. The fish was very average and copious amounts of chips didn’t make up for mediocre service. When we asked if the burger came with salad or sauce , we were told all that was available was sachets. There was no gravy or curry sauce which are real essentials for a traditional chippy. It appears that a little preparation was too much for the hardly busy staff. Probably won’t be coming back.

I visit this area several times a year, and this is our favourite fish and chips. The batter is always crisp even once we get it home. Portions are good. Definaterly worth the occasional queuing on Friday night

Ordered 2 standard cod and a small chips for me and the tweenager, just enough. Delicious, hot and beautifully seasoned. Fish had no bones and no skin. Waited outside for about 10-15mins for order to be ready which is absolutely fine. Slightly expensive compared to other areas of the county, but it is Emsworth

This is one of the south's best fish and chips - and plenty of other things! - shops. The food here is first class every time - and we've been many, many times. I'm not sure how they cook their fish - but its always fresh-tasting and delicious. And I love the way they put the foot in containers - meaning its still hot by the time you get it home. And the mushy peas are to die for ! Not only that - the staff are always lovely and friendly - and extremely chatty ! Try it - and HOW !!!!

My daughter went to buy supper for 6 of us at about 8pm today (Sunday) when she asked for 3 pea fritters she was told they only had one and then the frying staff just glared at her and said it was f**King ridiculous as if it was her fault. She felt humiliated and embarrassed. She then went to Tony's in Barncroft to get what she couldn't get and they were really friendly and helpful, we appreciate its a busy weekend but there's no need to be rude and humiliate people. She won't ever go to Mother Kelly's in Emsworth again.

Surprisingly small menu - a chippy that doesn’t do gravy or pies is surely limiting their customer base a tad. We went elsewhere. Wonder how many other do the same.

First time I've been to Mother Kelly's in ages. I was impressed. Immaculate premises. Really lovely staff here, food was good and freshly cooked to order. Once I got home I discovered something was missing from the order. On return to shop it was swiftly dealt with and a completely new order was done for me. Thank you. No complaints at all and I shall go there next time. Only drawback is that you cannot order ahead.

Smashing fish and chips here just like your other restaurant at Port Solent. Quite difficult to park due to being on the main road but the portions are good and reasonabley priced.

Have enjoyed fish and chips from here for the last 18 years, however it is nothing like it used to be. The quality has just deteriorated, skinny fish, small portion sizes and all overpriced. A real shame as we used to love our local chippy!

Been coming here for at least 17 years. Always serve great fish, great chips and great burgers. Quintessentially British, without trying to be.

Over a year ago, I expressed concern about the declining standards of food, and with a heavy heart, I am sad to report that standards continue to decline. The fish batter was over cooked- it was literally falling apart. Far too much oil in my opinion. Because of the size of the fish, I got few chips- very mean when advertised as a large portion. They were tasty, however. Service ok. But I was disappointed overall. Over the years, I have encountered above average price rises running alongside declining quality and quantity of food. You are in a prime location and enjoy no competition in Emsworth, with the nearest alternatives found in Westbourne and Havant. I feel this shop has become complacent due to the healthy stream of customers. The best local alternative I found is Deep Blue in Bedhampton- much better food at a similar price. Sort yourselves out, as you have lost a loyal customer!

Once we were finally served the children’s fish and chips were very tasty and provided good value for money. Service was very slow and not very efficient with lots of standing around by staff waiting for one order at a time to be cooked. So if you can cope with a long wait and bring largely ignored your dinner should make up for it !!

May be the only fish and chips shop in Emsworth but the fish is really lovely with great chips. Always busy so be prepared to wait a short while which is fine with me as this means your order is very fresh and hot.

Although this serves the best fish and chips in the area, you can never guarantee that they have what you need.. if you arrive after 7:30 quite often they have run out of items. Ive been left frustrated many times at having to drive to another shop to get what I want..obviously a good sign that they sell so much that they run out, but I’ve now started to go straight to the alternative..please order more stock so I can return... :)

After many years of enjoying excellent takeaway meals from this shop, we were disappointed to find our meal not up to their usual high standards. We contacted the the manager who asked us to speak to her on our next visit.

Stopped for as quick fish & chip lunch after visiting Thorney Island - 3 x Cod and Chips & 1 x Haddock and chips - everything was first class, top notch & tickety boo - not only that but because 3 of us were old farts our chips were free - Many thanks for a great deal.

Brought just chips for £1.80 it was a big portion of chips.they were very nice chips and a good size.plus they were very hot and fresh.i defently would go back here again as was a lovely chip shop.next time I will try there fish as well.
