10.30am - quiet time, 3 tables and 5 customers including myself. At least 4 staff. An elderly couple had ordered drinks, when they were prepared the member of staff at the service station called the table number, no response and called a second time even though they had spotted the table! The elderly gentleman put his hand up and the staff member said 'your drinks are ready' another customer offered to take the drinks as I was on my way to do the same. I asked why they hadn't taken the drinks to the table as the customer would clearly have struggled, I was told there wasn't a procedure for it 🤔 I pointed out that the procedure should be use your common sense, there wasn't any orders being processed and there weren't busy, almost equal staff to customers, what has happened to customer service 🤨 being trained to think on your feet, read the situation and the customer who's paying your wages comes first.

stopped in for a meal with the kids whilst out shopping. We used the self service station. Asked us to take a table number but there wasn’t any & with only one person doing everything we had to wait in the queue to ask. We then went to collect the cold drinks we selected (3) & none of them was in the fridge so we had to get back in the queue to ask what to do. Defeated the object of using the “quick” self service as we waited in the queue a lot longer. The table was empty but not clean. There wasn’t enough cutlery in the drawers and the ones we did grab were still dirty (egg yolks all over the forks) Food arrived - two breakfasts (luke warm, overcooked bacon & mushroom & didn’t remove items as requested Fish & burger - both chips were well overdone and soooooo dry!!! Neither of the kids ate them All in all very disappointing. This cafe needs more staff. The poor lass was doing her best but was overwhelmed. Not her fault

We have visited this cafe several times and have noticed the quality moving downhill more and more. Granted this is in no way fine dining but ideal to call in for a quick snack and coffee. Today will be our last visit, the temperature in the Barista was cold due to the air con being set to cool, the attendance in the main cafe was non existent, when I mentioned this into customer services there seemed to be an air of complete indifference. Based on my experiences I would urge people to not bother with Morrisons until they up their game.

The staff in the cafe are an absolute delight but sadly have to endure nastiness from a few bad customers, morrisons you need to hire more staff or risk going bust!! Get rid of the silly new coffee machines which the poor staff have to be ball and chained to, I give it 2 stars because the staff are doing their best especially especially megan who is a credit to your store.

The cafe used to be very acceptable, with a good service. We now steer well clear because the quality is now very poor. Service is appalling and , to rub salt in the wounds, they've raised prices. You can now get a far better quality breakfast or lunch in the town at several venues at a lower price. Come on cafe manager, get your act together , shoppers deserve far better than this.

I haven't been I morrisons cafe in years but hubby and I decided why not try it as it used to be good.waslking in near every table was full of used plates and cups. We cleared a table ourselves but couldn't wipe it, no staff around. We sat in a booth and noticed the windows were all smeared (loked like the same cloth was used toclesn the window that was to clwan the tables, try using window cleaner on the windows insead)and there was food around the frames. We had already ordered so we,d stay. We had two bug breakfasts as the breakfasts we'd had in the past were lovely. The ones that arrived were like charcoal and cardboard bacon. The coffee and hot chocolate was served in small cups and cost a small fortune. We won't be coming back. Morrisons share holders: hire more staff to be able to cope. And have a deal clean.

Used to like Morrisons but the food has gone downhill! I ordered avocado dish but instead of thick chopped avocado I was given literally a thin spread. As thin as butter! The poached eggs are also pre made and warmed up. Mine wasnt cooked properly either. Very disappointing! What a shame the images no longer match your meal as they used to

The Ultimate Breakfast cost £5.25, although I was given 50% off due to the “Eat out to help out” scheme. Once ordered the wait was a bit longer than planned. The cafe was very full however, and I was given my pot of tea to enjoy whilst waiting. Yorkshire Tea was served and a real fan favourite. The Ultimate breakfast was exactly that. 3 sausages, 4 rashers of bacon, 2 hash browns, 2 eggs (of your preferred choice, I went with fried), Mushrooms, half a tomato, beans, 2 fried bread, and a slice of toast. There were only minor faults with the breakfast; the tomato was under cooked leaving it very tough and frankly not enjoyable, slice of toast was simply under-toasted, the eggs were a bit overcooked and the beans lacked juice - something I believe essential in a breakfast allowing the fried bread and toast to “mop up”. Sausages were lovely, as was the bacon and the hash browns were the best I’ve had. Every thing else in the breakfast minus the above negatives were spot on. Really really pleasing. As you can see from the images, I did not eat the tomato. It really let me down as I enjoy that tangy flavour they offer to a breakfast. I did purchase a separate orange juice as I’d finished most of the tea during the wait. Again, the 50% was applied so was only 65p. The size of the breakfast was incredible, and at such a cheap price, with or without the 50% off, I will definitely eat here again. As this is from a supermarket, I was expecting to see the bacon looking pre-cooked and a bit stale, as with other elements of the breakfast. But this was not the case. A cheap option and great finish to a morning shop - 8.5/10. Breakfast Man

Both ordered breakfast ,bacon cheap and dry, fried bread and black pudding dry and over cooked. Cheap margarine with toast as no butter. The only thing we both liked was the mushrooms which are out of a can. I don’t know how they cook, reheat or have heat lamps but produces an awful meal. Table needed a good clean and no one asked if the meal was okay. We both left the majority of the cheap tasteless meal.We decided to retry after deciding 5 years ago to not return after a similar experience we will definitely never return and recommend no one bothers with this below normal standard cafe.

Visit at least three times a week for a sandwich or for tea and cakes. Find it excellent value and although I don't normally have a cooked meal the meals coming out of the kitchen are well presented and look appetising. The place could do with a real bottoming clean as very young staff are not too particular. Tea Pots are not very clean and mugs have to be chosen very carefully. I think the Manager of the Cafe should pay more attention! This is a very nice Cafe and Morrisons have updated it only last year but careless maintenance is letting it down! The staff are very friendly and cheerful but attention to refills of milk and cutlery could be much better.

We went today for lunch. It was about half full but every table was full of trays and plates etc. No one was cleaning up. The lady taking the order was full of beans and laughing uncontrollably for no reason. The lady on the till had to input our order several times and didn't swap the number tickets as expected. Only 1 coffee machine worked. When I asked another member of staff a question she said she worked on the shop floor so couldn't answer my questions. Food was ok so all's good. A couple on the next table waited over 30 minutes for lasagne and questioned staff who were all stood about messing about and talking for quite some time, while ignoring customers at the till. I've been in loads of Morrisons all over the country and can safely say this is the worst one I've been to. Staff definitely need retraining in customer care and cleanliness.

Food was reasonable but the staff cleanliness was appalling. Staff were serving food but their apron fronts was coated in dried on food remains. Come on Morrison’s this was not a good image to entice the public to eat at your cafe. Personal hygiene and self respect was really lacking. Whoever was responsible for staff appearance had clearly not done their job. Also tables of food had not been cleared away and left as unattractive remains from previous customers. Perhaps the training regime had not been adhered to and the five stars in this instance should only have been one.

So Morrison’s used to be such good value for money. The lunch meal deal was always great. Now you’re lucky to get a full deal. The berry yogurt pots hand made in store are now half the size and content and still the same price. The salad bowls are so tight with hardly a piece of chicken in the chicken salad and so much ice burg lettuce in the tuna salad no room for anything else. How greedy can a large supermarket be? I’m sure if it’s made in store they could have carried on making the dishes plentiful. Never thought I’d say this but even marks and Spencer’s are better value for money.

We shop regularly at Morrisons and also do online shopping. We are always pleased with the service. In other locations we have used Morrisons Cafe and enjoyed it. For some reason we it is some years since we used the cafe in Retford Morrisons. Regretfully we decided we would have an early Christmas lunch. It was before 12 0clock so did not appear too busy. We found there were no trays. Further down the Coke machine was not working and there were no teapots. There were three others at the tills but we and the people in front of us were really puzzled by the wait, Nobody had much on their trays. We finally got to a table still having no tray so we carried our drinks by hand. There was no low calorie sweetener. We waited ....... and waited..... and waited along time for our meal by which time my tea was cool. Our food eventually served was tepid. It might have been an ok meal but no way could we consider it a treat. We might have been served quicker and therefore had hot food if the staff had not had to correct mistakes in previous orders.Half way through the meal We found we had sat at a disabled table. The stand which hold table number was covering it. We would apologise to any disabled person that was inconvenienced. We wont inconvenience them or the staff at the cafe again we will eat at home.

Nice little stop off at the services. My usual is a skinny decaf sugar free vanilla latte which didn't have its usual strength of flavour but that's just Costa as compared to other cafes. Did have a lovely lemon muffin however! Did the job to stretch our legs at the halfway mark in a long journey!

This was a Monday lunchtime meal for 6 friends, and due to a cancelled walk beforehand because of the heavy rain, we arrived very early, but as our reserved table was available we were promptly seated. Excellent start, and having been given menus, ordered drinks and placed meal orders everything was fine. Starters arrived, a couple of Garlic Mushrooms with Rustic bread looked fine. My Japanese Karaage dish ( chicken pieces in spicy batter with harissa) wasn’t great, the batter whilst crispy on the outside, was soggy inside and the chicken pieces inside were very small, not breast meat but looked like thigh. The harissa was actually a harissa inspired mayo dip, very spicy but nice for it. For main course, three of us had Sea Bass fillets with crushed garlic potatoes with a wine and cheese sauce with green beans and carrots. Very nicely presented, however I’ve never had a plated meal which was so hot ( except for oven baked lasagne, fish pie etc) in particular the potatoes which were sliced and not crushed. At a guess, the plated meals had been waiting under the heated lamps on the pass for some time whilst other meals were ready. The sea bass was rather dry because of this, but copious amounts of white wine and cheese sauce provided in a gravy boat moistened the fish nicely. However, I’d much rather have a very hot meal rather than tepid or verging on cold as I experienced on more than one occasion. Our friends had a chicken and mushroom pie (thick soggy crust), a lamb and mint pie, and a plain butterflied chicken breast, all with accompanying vegetables, everything well presented. After this we waited and waited and waited, then had to shout to the bar for dessert menus half an hour after finishing main courses. Desserts weren’t great, 3 of us had a gluten free NY baked cheesecake which was very grainy and not pleasant, the mixed berries were not defrosted properly and the ice cream was bland. Others had apple and blackberry crumble and no one managed more than half of their dish, which comprised roughly 70% crumble and 30% fruit. Unfortunately not many complements were forthcoming. Again after finishing desserts we had to shout to the bar for attention for hot drinks to finish with. Coffee was nice, but the tea drinkers weren’t impressed, there was ‘just tea’ available, no varieties, and what arrived was very weak. The cardinal sin, apart from having no Sticky Toffee pudding available was that there was no interest in clearing our dessert dishes away, and these were left in front of us until we vacated the table to pay at the bar. At this time the pub wasn’t busy and staff were more interested in chatting to themselves rather than dealing with diners. Not once throughout our meal were we asked if everything was alright with our good. Maybe they were embarrassed by the about of food left uneaten on everyone’s plates. From their website and meal descriptions it looks like The Chequers is positioning itself as a Gastro pub, but it’s nowhere near to what I’d expect. It’s difficult to pin down an identity for their cuisine, having American, Chinese, Thai, German, English, Mexican, Mediterranean, Japanese, Moroccan and Italian dishes on the menu, but my suspicion is that many of the meals are bought in meals preprepared for catering. I may be wrong here, but that’s how it looks. Overall we thought it was a less than average experience which wouldn’t be difficult to improve with a bit of attention to detail, quality over quantity and better consideration from the serving staff. Oh, and the wi-if was not working 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hired out there function room July 2024, price was reasonable for what you got, I was able to provide my own food/DJ. As for the so called “staff” half of them did not even work there they were “helping out a friend” so no bar experience at all. Had to ask them to go and buy basic fruit for drinks from Asda as there was none at all. Had to explain what drinks we wanted and what was in them. They were charging us wrong every time we bought a drink, £22 for two Hugo Sprits then £16 for one. When we asked about this they had no explanation. There seemed to be no one in charge of the function, just looked like had no clue what they were doing. The bartender Emily was the one who helped the most (as she was the only one who worked there). Would not recommend to have a function here if you want it run by people who do not know what they are doing.
