It’s a take away. It was ok. Had better and had worse. Curries a bit watery and lacking in heat ( chilli) but perfectly average

BEWARE, THIS PLACE IS NOT A RESTAURANT. Do NOT go here if you are planning on eating a meal. Went out of our way to go to a restaurant for an evening meal to be treated very rudely when we asked for a table. The place should be shut down for misleading people by calling it a restaurant. IT ISN'T - AVOID - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Ordered our takeaway at 6.00pm to collect at 7. My husband arrived to collect at 7 only to be told it wasn’t ready, he waited 35 minutes to eventually get the meal. When he got home the food was lukewarm and looked as if it had been thrown into the bag with several items leaking. We won’t be returning 😡

Had a very nice curry last night but it was a very long wait to get it. In these days of coronavirus and social distancing I waited outside. I ordered my takeaway at 19:00 and was told it would be ready in about 30 mins, so I went along at 19:30 to pay and collect. However, it wasn’t ready and there wasn’t any communication from the staff. After waiting a while I asked the staff how long it would be and was told 10-15 minutes. My curry eventually arrived at 21:00, 2 hours after my order was placed and not a word of apology. I accept that it might have taken a bit longer if they have cut back on staff etc. but 2 hours was silly. As I’ve said, the curry was very nice and I shall put this down as a one off. But please in future communicate with customers

First time I’ve tried here. Just a takeaway of chicken madras & keema rice. Plated the rice. Then the madras. Curry was watery. Which I have seen from some India restaurants. But this was a lot. Which in turn watered down the flavour of the rice. Would go again but only as it’s the only one. Next time I’ll include photos if the same.

First time dining here at the Moonlight on Valentines evening and very impressed. A very warm welcome upon arrival having booked via telephone earlier. We ordered one mains a couple of side orders, pompadours, naan, beer and wine, the quality of food cooked and serving was excellent so if you ever fancy a top notch Indian in Hungerford Moonlight is the place to go! Until our next visit, thank you.

Booked a table for six on a Saturday night, which seemed to be a surprise to the person at the phone, which become clear when we were the only clientele in the place for the whole night! That said we had attentive service! We were concerned that the food might be the problem, but that wasn’t the case as both starters and mains were all good with no complaints. Maybe Hungerfordians don’t like curry, but would go again if ever in Hungerford and wanted a curry.

We maybe have take-aways once or twice a year so do not have them very often. We decided to go for an Indian. Really disappointing, big clumps of meat and lots (overflowing) of watery sauce. Every time we go to an Indian restaurant we enjoy it, often say the take-away does not taste the same as the meal you get in the restaurant. Not sure if we will choose Indian again but definitely will not be going to the Moonlight.

The Moonlight was recommended to us in the bar at the Three Swans as the best Indian restaurant in Hungerford -I don't think they have much competition though as it is a small town. It was pretty good but not spectacular -I hesitated to rate it only three stars ("average") as this seems a little harsh but neither was it really a four star meal ("very good"). To be fair, we only had a takeaway, so i can't comment on the restaurant's ambience or service. I had a vegetable dansak which was rich and filling but also a little on the sweet side and not as spicy as I would've liked it to be. My spinach rice, crispy onion bhajis, poppadoms and mango chutney were all very good though. My partner had a chicken tikka which she described as a bit dry and tasteless but her mushroom bhajia (side dish) and mushroom pilau rice were both excellent and succulent. My family had various other curries and rice dishes, naan breads, etc. but we were all very hungry so I didn't pay much attention to them -not much was left, which is usually a good sign! The spinach rice seemed to be a hit with everyone. All in all, if you want an Indian takeaway in Hungerford, this does the job but don't expect anything that you can't find on any High Street in Britain -except the excellent spinach rice!

There's not much choice if you fancy and Indian meal in Hungerford. We saw that the reviews of the Moonlight are not great, however we chanced it on a Saturday night and were surprised that it was so busy. We were shown to the only available table and offered drinks (bottled Cobra) which came quickly. The staff seemed very busy but not making much progress and some people had evidently been waiting a long time for their meals. One person even went into the kitchen to inquire about his take away! After a 20 minute wait our order was taken and that is the reason for only a 3 rating because the meals when they came were very good.

Somehow this place has a good start rating, which is why we chose it. For the whole evening we were the only table in use. Obviously the locals already know about the food and service. The staff whilst polite just didn't care. My personal starter samosas, factory made only two and very small. Two of us ordered different lamb dishes. Neither of us could eat the chewy offering. So it ended up being rice and sauce for us. The waiter couldn't be bothered to serve the meals individually. Reaching over the table and expecting me to reach over and take or from him. Come the end we were almost ushered out by bored looking staff just standing waiting for us to finish our instant coffee . Made when the cook brought a kettle through from the kitchen.

5 of us had the place to ourselves. Lovely white tablecloths make for a fresh spotless feel, and the service was very good all night. We had plenty of time to choose, chat and finish up in what inquire a small dining room so in a busier night I suspect things might have been less relaxed. The menu has all the usual favourite varieties but no obvious house specialities or novelties to catch the eye. The food is very good and portion sizes allow for starter and Mains that left us all sated. Strong sense from the speed of service that food is prepped to order - my samosas looked fresh made and the Korai main was highly tasty. Just hit the spot perfectly. At £25-30 per head including a couple of beers and some sides this is great value

Arriving at 12.15 pm, we found a member of staff hoovering the carpet and we were informed that all he can offer is take away...??!Well, why would they have opening hours for lunch when you can't get one?? When we mentioned that we felt cold the waiter told us that he had switched on the heating ( which looked like an air conditioning unit on the wall) and it would warm up in ten minutes or so which it didn't. Have been put off going back on view of this. Made the restaurant seem a little cheerless. We were the only people eating in there - everyone else was coming in for takeaways. No doubt Sundays are quiet for them but a bit much not to turn the heating on especially when the weather turned a lot colder that weekend.

This was an absolutely SUPERB Indian, I can't compliment them enough. We went in fairly late (9ish) and there was only 1 table with people at it who left quite soon after we arrived so me and my partner enjoyed a peaceful romantic meal. We had a Poppadoms with several sauces which were lovely! Onion bargies, meat samosas, peshawar naan bread, korma, duck curry (can't remember which one!), onion fried rice and a meaty rice. The whole meal was absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. We were given the poppadoms while we waited, I think the food must have taken about 20/30 mins overall but we got our starters fairly promptly which kept us entertained. The food was a little expensive but for how lovely it was I didn't mind! Both curries were so full of flavour and were so mouthwateringly good! The drinks were overpriced really though, as a pint of lemonade was the same as a draught beer/cider. The waiters were very polite, professional and even though it was clear they were closing and wanted to leave, they didn't rush us at all. The entire meal cost £42.50. We were extremely full and couldn't even eat it all so we asked the waiter to box it up for us to take home which he was happy to do. Then when we received the bill they gave us hot wet wipes and chocolate mints which is always a lovely touch, I think this is one of my favourite restaurants ever and would really recommend going here!

Having visited this restaurant in 2010 and thinking it similar to faulty towers I had always been reserved about going back... But mid last year we did return and have returned regularly since. Food and service is brilliant and the waiters/chef will take on a request too. Really yummy!!

We went here whilst on a canal holiday with friends. We were a party of 8. The curries were generally excellent, although some were sweeter than some people may like (however this is indicated on the menu). Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and helpful when we asked for advice over which curries to choose. They were also able to adjust the spiciness of dishes to meet individual tastes. Portions were very generous and the food arrived promptly and hot. Would visit again. Good value.

On our way back from Heathrow to Devon we were in urgent need of a good curry. We found this place through Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The service was excellent, we both lapped down our curries and the price was very reasonable. I am sure the locals use this very much! If your in Hungerford and in need of a great curry then do not hesitate to visit this place. We were treated very well from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Popped in tonight as working late, have to say I have enjoyed a really decent curry with excellent service. Why you would pay nearly double the price down the A4 is beyond me.

I have been to this restaurant several times now, and I have to say I have never had a bad meal. The dishes are lovely and great value. The chef is always happy to make something bespoke for you too, if you like it a little hotter than normal! It does look a little shabby from the outside, it is a really nice place to eat. The staff are friendly and couldn't be more helpful. They are also happy to chat and discuss indian cuisine. A really good, traditional Indian restaurant. Well worth the visit!

Located at the top of the high street. Decent curry at very reasonable prices. Reccomend the "South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken"

Visited tonight after arriving for a stopover nearby. We were the first customers to arrive but were soon joined by several other people both ordering and collecting takeaways and eating in. The food was plentiful, tasty and hot. Coming from West Yorkshire we are spoiled for choice when it comes to Indian restaurants but the food we had was equally as good as any we have had at home!!Service was attentive without being intrusive and the staff were very friendly and obliging.

Have eaten here on a few occasions. The food is on the lower side of good... I.e reasonable. The price is actually slightly high for what you get. The major let down is service, which for an Indian restaurant is unusual. I asked at the end of the meal for them to call a cab for me. A card was literally thrown at me and I was told to do it myself. Don't think I'll return, there is a lot better in the area.

I went to Moonlight Indian for dinner a few times in July, and was very pleasantly surprised the first time I tried one of their curries - a good mix of spices, sauces and aromas, ... The place itself might be getting a bit old, but the service & the food are definitely nice, and the menu is absolutely huge (and decently priced) !

This is a great little restaurant. The staff were courteous and efficient. We visited on a busy Saturday night and the service we received was excellent. The food was really good and tasty. The nann bread was so fresh! We were with seven friends and we all loved the food. I would thoroughly recommend.

I`ve eaten here on numerous occasions and thought it about time I gave them a big thumbs up!I live in Hungerford and have done about 5 years or so and have NEVER had a bad meal here. Sometimes it feels like coming home, there is always a friendly welcome at the door. The food is traditional Indian cooked using fresh ingredients with a natural flair for seasoning and spice level.Price is very reasonable and their is a broad selection on the menu. Try the Lamb saag and chana balti but ask for it cooked fairly hot, delicious!

I visited the Moonlight last weekend and had a really nice dinner. The decor is a little "tired", but the friendly welcome more than makes up for it. The menu is standard fare, with some special dishes. Our waiter was very professional and brought us our drinks quickly, which is always a good start! We chose our meal - and gave our order to the waiter - he made the effort to make suggestions about what to have, but in a really tactful way - I'd got nearly to the end of my order and he said that if I was just to pick a certain bread, then that would be a perfect meal, so of course I did, and he was quite right! All of our food was cooked to a high standard, with a good mixture of spices. We could see into the kitchen when the door was opened and it was clearly spotlessly clean. All in all a great evening, with good food and drink served in a pleasant, friendly environment. See if the Moonlight becomes you too!

Disappointed, we have always used thatcham tandoori but in recent weeks their delivery service has not been up to scratch, our last delivery took over 2 hours to arrive and when trying to call the number was always busy, when order arrived they said they took the phone off the hook so no one could get through! It is with disappointment that we will not be ordering again due to their delivery and no updates available

I ordered food at 1845 and was told it would arrive in 30 minutes - the food arrived more than 90 minutes later close to 2030. The order was incomplete and the food was cold. The price quoted was £59 - I then received a call saying there would be an extra charge for delivery of £3 as I was out of area (despite my village being listed on their website). When the delivery arrived the driver demanded that the £3 be paid in cash. When I check this morning the charge to my card was £69. I have therefore paid £13 more than quoted for an order that was incomplete, late and cold. Not good.
