Breakfast bacon bap and a cup of tea x 2 was all we ordered. I took ages and had to complain before e could get or simple order. Another table next to us was like a sketch from Faulty Towers with wrong food over and over again. Even our bacon bap had no sauce that was on the order.

This is a great place to enjoy a drink and some delicious cake whilst walking the dockside at Wapping Wharf. Montgomery’s offers a comfortable relaxing atmosphere and sensible pricing. We went in on a cold December afternoon, were welcomed and not rushed even though it was quite late. The Coffee and Walnut cake was exceptional and my companion had a HUGE scone with jam and cream. Certainly we would recommend it highly.

Visited Montgomery’s today with my wife and daughter and we were subjected to the rudest experiences ever in a cafe or restaurant by an inexperienced staff member, who was totally in the wrong and completely out of her depth. Basically on a cold wintery day the staff member opened the front doors and despite representations from customers about the unacceptably cold draft coming in she insisted that it was uncomfortably warm behind the counter and refused point blank to close the door over again. To make matters worse she then said that if it was too cold she could cancel our order and we were free to leave which we promptly did vowing never to return. No loss as there are several more customer friendly cafes nearby who put the comfort and wishes of customers first and foremost. The attitude and behaviour or the staff member was beyond belief and well beyond was is expected or acceptable.

Firstly this cafe didn't provide hot food at 14.30 (despite the menu saying service until 15.30)!!! The member of staff serving my family and friends smiled a total of zero times, she rolled her eyes and shook her head at her colleague as we tried to establish the menu oprions instead of helping us out to understand the system. Additionally I am pretty sure she turned and shared a word about us to her colleague! We were polite, tried to be understanding and simply wanted a quick snack! I Can't comment on the food yet because I'm so disappointed that I've written this review before the food even arrived! In the end food was delicious, but that much less if you already feel unwelcome in a place!

Today I spent an hour in this cafe having cake with my overtired 14 month old while waiting to be picked up from town by my husband. At first my toddler sat in the Highchair but he started getting bored, so I put him down and he wanted to wheel his pram round and round in circles. There was nobody in the cafe at this point so he did that for about half an hour, with me helping him steer the pram around tables the whole time. As soon as some customers came in I then moved the pram back to our table out of their way. The customers then left and my son was toddling around. I stayed close behind him so when he tried to get to anywhere he shouldn’t go, I steered him away. The cafe had an adjoining art gallery with expensive looking glass frames at toddler level inside, and the glass door was open and he of course ran straight through to the art gallery, so I went in and picked him up and took him back through the door to the cafe, closing the door behind me. Next thing I know a surly woman had barked at me from behind the counter “No shutting the door!” I explained that my son was running into the art gallery and I don’t want him in there breaking expensive stuff and her reply was “Well you shouldn’t let him run around really should you!” ..... First of all, uh, WHAT? You do realise I own a child not a robot, right? He doesn’t have an off switch, trust me I’ve checked! Second of all... I cannot stop my toddler wanting to run around, what am I to do, keep him in a death grip?! I can totally understand if I was just letting him run amok but I was following behind him everywhere, my bloody back aches! There were also no customers at all (possibly due to the friendly service..) so I wasn’t in anyone’s way. Just really rude and unnecessary. Won’t be back which isn’t a big loss as it’s just an average cafe, nothing special. I have to say the young guy working there was really friendly however.

This is a perfectly adequate tea shop attached to an art gallery. Not particularly trendy and perhaps a bit bland? and possibly aiming for a different clientele than most coffee shops, but they had a nice range of cakes, lovely looking quiches and the service was good too.

I had the vegetarian quiche warmed up with a little salad which was very nice. All in all lovely experience.

We visited here on the 28th December in the early afternoon. It was quiet with only one other table. I stood at the till and was completely ignored, no acknowledgment of our existence at all despite being stood in front of me. No smile, no ‘ be with you in a moment ‘, nothing. We even sat down for 5 minutes after being ignored hoping that someone might attend, but no one did. I don’t know if it is arrogance or ignorance, but if you don’t like people why have a cafe?!!! The 2 main staff members were a young man with reddish brown hair and a middle aged woman who looked in a foul mood-both are ignorant of potential customers. They didn’t even give eye contact or smile. A customer complained that the soup was cold whilst we were stood there-she seemed fed up too. We eventually gave up and walked out. Avoid this place at all costs as there are plenty of other cafes-we went to the one at the museum where the staff are efficient and friendly.

A small café attached to the adjacent art gallery, we’ve looked in here on a number of occasions when browsing the gallery, but never popped in until now. On this occasion, as Pigsty just around the corner wanted 30 minutes just to provide a take-away Scotch egg, we decided to give it a go. There’s a tempting looking selection of cakes displayed on the counter, including a jam sponge and chocolate caramel shortbread. Nice to see the traditional favourites, instead of so many places that try to be a bit different, not always successfully! This time though, due to a recent over indulgence of mince pies and Christmas cake, we opted for something savoury and tried both of the two quiches, one of which was a tuna, and the other a ham and cheese. We were asked if we’d like it warmed and we decided we would, so we were invited to sit and it would be brought over. So far, so good, but there was definitely a few of the service bits that could be brushed up. The young guy behind the till asked where we were sitting, even though it was obvious we’d only just wandered in and weren’t sitting anywhere. It’s only a small café and from where he was stood he could easily have seen where we went, so why couldn’t if have just noted it down then? Or even just remembered and brought it over, it’s not exactly massive in here! When the drinks were brought over he asked which was which, even though we had both ordered separately. A small thing perhaps, but the same guy that took the order bringing them over a few minutes later….is that too much to ask? And then the quiches were brought served atop a paper serviette and plate. The serviette had disintegrated and stuck to the bottom of the quiche – it was absolutely useless to use and I had to pull bits of soggy paper out of my food. The quiches themselves were on the whole pretty good. Nothing outstanding, but certainly decent enough and a generous portion, although even so they seemed a little expensive at almost a fiver, especially as there were no accompaniments. My latte was also pretty good, as was a green tea across the table, although disappointingly, no way to stop it brewing such as a bag that could be removed or leaves in a submersible strainer. Thus by the time my wife came to pour a second cup it was far too stewed to be drinkable, and it had also clearly been made with water far hotter that the recommended 80°C - 85°C for green tea. So, overall, a pleasant enough spot and I might return to check out some of the cakes, but they really need to make quite a few tweaks to the service to get the most out of it.

Prior to today it has not proved to be an issue with any member of the staff as, due to the nature of his disability he will not eat any food other than that prepared by his mother. We called in this tearoom on a busy and sunny afternoon- the quayside was teeming with people- enjoying the bank holiday weather. It was about 4:15 pm and we ordered pots of tea and bought ice cream tubs. After 10 minutes, the staff started bringing into the tearoom, the signs from outside and one of these women, looked at me and said “we are closing”. A couple of minutes later she brought over a tray with the words “we are closed now” - so we were pressured to quickly drink our tea and leave - not yet 4:30pm!

My husband and I stopped here for a cup of tea and a cake but it will not happen again. After quite a while we enquired about our order and the cake came. Having slowly eaten half of it - it was very good - we asked again about our drinks, which were 'coming'. Twice more this happened and then they did finally arrive. No apology. As explanation we were told we were 'in a queue'. The cafe did not seem to me so busy that they could not have produced two drinks in almost half an hour. Above all it was the attitude of the staff which was dreadful. Clearly we were 'difficult' customers. Although from the eye rolling of other customers it was clear we were not alone.

Popped into Montgomerys at 4.05pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon with my husband and our 2 young children. Took a seat and went up to the counter to order some cold drinks, latte and cakes. It was only once paying that I was told rather abruptly that the tea room was closed and our cakes would be served in a takeaway box as they would never finish work by 5pm!! I looked around to see several other people still eating and drinking, and more people entering the tea room through the open doors! Now I wouldn't have minded if the doors were closed, or someone had told us upon entering that they were closing but I was made to feel really awkward and as though our business was not welcome. Funnily upon checking trip advisor and their website it looks like they close at 4.30pm or 5pm, I suppose it probably depends on who serves you and if your face fits. To make matters worse they missed the latte off the bill and when I queried this was told I hadn't paid for it and they weren't able to make one for me (even though I offered to pay!). This all happened at 4.10pm, some 20 minutes before closing time. Surely it doesn't take that long to make a latte?!

I've visited Montgomery's twice in the last week or so. The first time we ordered a coffee and a bacon sandwich and had to wait about 20 minutes for both to arrive. I can perhaps understand a bacon sandwich taking that long, but not a coffee, particularly as there was hardly anyone else in the cafe at the time. The second time we visited was even more disappointing. We ordered a Ploughman's lunch. It cost £7 for one (small, not overly fresh) slice of bread, a piece of cheddar, a piece of pate, a handful of lettuce and one (ONE!) cherry tomato, one pickled onion and about six crisps. As my dad and I were sharing this, I asked if we could perhaps have another slice of bread and were told that we would have to pay another 50p for it. I did so as I didn't want to cause a fuss in front of my dad but I thought that was fairly petty and mean. I personally won't be rushing back.

Pricing in Bristol, according to my boyfriend and his friends, has become significantly expensive. Dining out costs around 16 GBP or more. We found Montgomery's out of randomness whilst walking along the harbor side, wondering what to have for late lunch and it was the greatest pleasant surprise ever. It was 4 PM (they close at 5 PM) so we thought we'd just have something quick even though we're starving. Baked goods looked gorgeous so I chose to have the ploughman's, a cafe mocha and a Belvoir Elderflower Pressé. (Who knows when am I gonna visit England again?). My boyfriend had a sausage roll, a sweet pastry and a beer. We managed to finish them all even though we're used to the tiny food portion in Vietnam, fully stuffed but still wish we could try the rest of the food.I really need their sausage rolls in my life.

After touring the SS Great Britain in Bristol, our group of five wanted to find a nearby place to have a small lunch. We should have realized that Mongomery's was a BIG mistake when we walked in and only five people were there. The other tables were covered with dirty plates, glasses and silverware that the oblivious young man and woman running the place simply ignored. After clearing our own table by piling the dishes from our table onto those at a neighboring table, we wiped down the sticky surface and prepared to order at the counter. My wife's first choice was unavailable even though it was on the menu. After deciding on sandwiches, we ordered and waited 25 MINUTES for the sandwiches to be made, but OURS WAS THE ONLY PENDING ORDER. When my wife's sandwich arrived (salmon), it should have been on brown bread. It was on white. When questioned about this, the young girl simply said, "We're out." No apology. No advance warning. It took three trips to our table to deliver all of our food. In the meantime, the table beside us remained stacked high with dirty dishes and tableware. Each time, the young girl returned to the kitchen empty handed without clearing the dirty table. While this was going on, the young man made himself a sandwich, sat down at one of the other dirty tables and ate his own lunch. When we left, about 40 minutes after arriving there, all of the dirty dishes were still on the tables where they had been throughout our entire meal. NOTHING HAD BEEN CLEARED AWAY!!! It's disconcerting to eat lunch in a restaurant with unkempt tables surrounding you. And it's even worse to deal with a stall who seemed totally unconcerned about customers and service. We will not return!!!!

This was all washed down with the most delicious rooibos tea leaves with an infusion of cardamon pod! The others in our group opted for poached eggs. Good coffee and a lot of tes.! Wonderful!!

Visited with friends, really enjoyed the food, I'd recommend it to others for a nice lunch when wandering around the dock area. Didn't appreciate the kitchen staff opening the door all the time because they were hot in the kitchen, it was freezing in the dining area, I understand that kitchens are hot but there should be adequate ventilation and the door shouldn't be opened all the time which freezes guests. When I asked for the door to be closed since I was cold I was greeted by the lady in the kitchen arguing with me saying that it needed to be open since she was too hot. Overall, good food but very rude staff.

Visited with a couple of friends after a walk along the quay. Were hungry and looking for a snack but were told, somewhat abruptly, that food is not served after 3pm. We had a coffee and one of the small selection of cakes but were rather disappointed by the service and offerings.

If you want to take a breather, then this little cafe is perfect. With a welcoming smile from the servers there is plenty to choose from; cakes, sandwiches and hot food. Why not peruse the attached gallery, perhaps buy some momento of your visit and grab a drink while they prepare your purchase.Prices are good value, and the service is prompt. The Guinness and chocolate cake I had although unusual was really tasty.

Would not recommend to people with children, although the manager (if that what he was, either that or a young man on a power trip!) was especially rude to everyone anyway, even his 2 female staff. We were tempted in by the signs saying breakfast, lunches etc, goes in and basically just sandwiches and cake. So we ordered a cheese toastie and a cheese sandwich on brown. The young lady managed to get this order wrong (how??) but that wasn't too bad. The bloke that works there was so rude!! Shouting at the two girls who worked there, giving everyone dirty looks. Just looked like he had somewhere better to be. My son (2 years old) was playing with the tea strainer that come with my mums pot of tea, tapping his sandwich with it, when the bloke come over and said it wasn't to be played with (harmless he is 2!!) and took it off him. Didn't care for his snobby tone. The atmosphere of the tea room was tainted by his dirty looks and head shakes everytime my son dropped something. Wasn't an amazing sandwich and hardly a 5 star restaurant although he seemed to think otherwise. Avoid!

Called here yesterday as cafes at M Shed and Great Britain were very crowded. It has a very nice atmosphere and very helpful staff. The food was cooked to order and was worth the wait - good burger and tasty toastie. Will definitely use them again.

Called in for lunch, just wanting a light snack. It was pretty busy, with just one girl doing everything; taking your order, making the food, serving the food and clearing up afterwards. But it was done in a pleasant manner, no sign of stress affecting the good service. I ordered a simple goats cheese salad and when it came I was very pleasantly surprised. The salad itself was varied and the dressing superb. A lovely mid day snack

I don't understand the recent negative reviews for this place. We managed to reserve a table on a busy summer Saturday and when we arrived we received friendly and attentive service despite there being just two ladies running the whole cafe. Then there was the delicious food which we watched being prepared, 2x burger and chips, a lovely ploughman's for two (chorizo sausage roll the highlight) and a ham, salami and cheese sandwich for our son. Quality hot drinks and some choice cakes from an excellent selection followed. We will definitely be going back.

You would have imagined that a Diet coke, fruit cake and coffee would have been very simple. However after ordering I was told to sit down and wait. I initially sat down near the till however the table was crowed by other customers queuing to order. After moving my mother and I heard loud crashing and the staff yelling at each other by this point it was about 10mins since I had ordered and I went to ask what had happened and the manager didn't appolgise instead rushed to set up our try includinbg picking up the cake with his bare hands.Generally a bad experience and there is plenty of choice in this area and go somewhere else!!

If you like fish with your batter then don't order it from Montgomery tea rooms. Ours escaped in the fryer, when we complained the girl said that was the size it comes in, she did however offer us a drink, not really compensation for £8 on a meal. We weren't happy but didn't pursue as she said she would review it. We complained that evening and the Manager only started to be helpful when we said we would write a review, if we came back which we aren't planning on visiting Bristol soon then he would give us a refund, but this was only after being pressed.

Sam, the new manager of Montgomery's as it is now called, and his team, were wonderfully helpful when we needed to organise a birthday lunch for my mother near to Bristol harbour. Sam went out of his way to be helpful in planning the lunch by email and phone, as we had a number of vegetarians in our party, and one with other particular dietary requirements. The food was excellent and good value, and the service attentive and friendly. It can't have been easy for them as we nearly took over the place! Our visit there helped turn the day into a great success, so it's a big 'thank you' from us all!

Was down by the Harbourside for a walk Sunday 8th March and popped in for a pot of tea for two, just missed the food being served so instead we had a flapjack instead. The tea room was modern looking but like the tea being loose tea and the cakes display looked nice and they were very nice and explained what cakes they had and they left us in peace to make up our minds the tea was nice and hot. Will make sure that we go to the tea room before 3pm so we can have some food

A really lovely place. Its hard to explain why I like it so much; they clearly have put a lot of effort into their little slice of teaven yet they're not trying so hard that you feel any less than a firm family friend. It's a really lovely balance. As others have said, it offers more than just a tearoom with some fantastic fare on offer.I think with a little more personality on the walls that will come with age this is the sort of place that you'll see queues coming out of the doors of in future and they very much deserve this.

We usually walk our dog down by the docks on a Sunday morning, and have chanced by the new Montgomery tea rooms, but usually we've been too early for them to be open. About three weeks ago we were a little later in our walk so ventured in to get a cup of coffee and a cake because we could sit outside with the dog. The staff seemed unwilling to serve us as they were both occupied on their phones and when the coffees did arrive they were cool not piping hot. Also the piece of cake which we paid over £3.00 for was far smaller than are available at the Arnolfini or the Tea rooms at the SS Great Britain, so a big thumbs down I'm afraid. We may have caught them on a bad day but we wont be venturing back in. Sorry.

Loved this place. A group booking (the first the new owner has taken) went really well. I ordered a Devon Mist cider which was served on the side with an ice cold glass – perfect for this warm September day. Most of my party had the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which looked amazing. I opted for the roasted veg and cream cheese panini which came with a colourful side salad and a little pot of dressing, it was crunchy, seeded, full of filling and served with a cheery smile. So in short a scrumptious lunch for under a tenner in a lovely building with happy staff surrounded by art – we will be back

Montgomeries well worth finding for tired travellers! Sara the manageress gave us a great welcome and very attentive service. The menu is imaginative and delicious whether you want a full meal or light bite. Lovely selection of cakes, and Sara said she is careful to source her food locally. The Tea Room is annexed to an art gallery and picture framer with a great selection of works from local artists, and the Tea Room itself doubles up as a showcase for art.

After a few hours of intense interactive activity looking around the interesting exhibitions at M-Shed, my brother and I (we're both over 50 so we were both proverbially 'pooped') stumbled across Montgomery's Tea Room (virtually next door to M-Shed).It was by now mid-afternoon and a bit too late for a proper lunch - and my brother's a very faddy eater - but we were both enticed in by the very welcoming and charming Victoria and her lovely café / tearoom, where we had no problems finding something we fancied from the various menus.A delicious snack (a tuna melt Panini with an apple juice, and a hand-made cheese and ham sandwich accompanied by a glass of delicious chilled blush wine) later and we were invigorated and ready to see some more of the sights of Bristol harbour side.Victoria explained that the tearoom had only been going about 3 months, but hopefully it will be there for many more years to come.Tasty food and drink and service with a smile. Thank you!

We had lunch here today, after checking out the Wallace and Gromit exhibition in the M Shed next door. Very friendly service, and a great Ploughman's lunch, enough to share easily between two. Good cheese, salad, pork pie, bread etc. Very good position watching the harbour activities. Worth a visit, definitely.

In June 2014 we enjoyed a delicious supper and then lunch the next day at this great tea room.Montgomery's is more than a tea room serving delicious Greek-influenced food as well as very tasty soups, cakes and sandwiches. The menu was varied and all of the food was beautifully served by the very kind and welcoming manager and her assistant. This one is definitely worth a visit.

I know food inflation is hitting hard but this is a bit silly for £8.25. The place could do with a bit of a clean also

So, man google reviews are brutal, stars?! What am I Michelin reviewer? No. But saying that. I am cold. This place is cold, radiators on, but my coats on. Food, good but small plates. Ok. Men’s, no mirror in the men’s toilets. I’m not massively vain, but seems kind of standard.
