Montagu's in Tunbridge Wells

Lovely cafe on the top floor of Royal Victoria Place. I had a brie, bacon, cranberry and tomato panini and a black coffee, which came with a little mint chocolate. Food and drink were delicious. Service was welcoming and with a smile. Plenty of table for the space they have. Highly recommend. Accessible via lift in Royal Victoria Place shopping center

Called here for lunch on 2nd Tuesday in April .We had The big club toasted sandwich & chicken ,mozzarella etc ciabbbata with flat white and hot chocolate .Staff looked under pressure today but the they were efficient and the food was outstanding -my favourite sandwich is the big club. Great flat white too

First time trying this place and won’t be returning, we ordered 2 teacakes and 1 Christmas gingerbread latte and a normal latte, nothing Christmassy about the gingerbread one as was meant to come with cream and didn’t. Tea cakes never turned up, asked where they were as was told they forgot and would do it now but we ran out of time, they didn’t seem to care they forgot tbh even tho there was 4 people working. They all looked miserable and no communication between any of them and didn’t even get an apology when I was given my refund, Don’t know why this place is even popular, I wouldn’t even waste your money here and better to go to fenwick cafe or somewhere else where there staff aren’t miserable. Only gave a 3 star for atmosphere because of the Xmas displays in the shopping centre. Owners and managers need to have a serious re-train of there staff Love going to work disappointed and not having any breakfast. Thanks Avoid this place

After four years through Covid and illness I went to T.Wells with my husband to do a bit of shopping. Before we started we went to Taste Wells where we always used to go. The owners daughter was there and served us. She was more miserable than before. Not a welcome how can I help you - nothing. She made me feel as if I should not be there. We were served with our food. I had a hummus wrap with salad in it. Another girl brought it too us equally miserable. No “Would you like anything else” nothing. And before I asked for. a knife and fork as I could see this was going to splurge out of the wrap she was gone. I ate my wrap (mess) thank goodness she gave me a serviette to clean up myself and fingers. No one came to see if we were ok or even look our way. I will certainly look elsewhere to eat in future. What is the matter with nearly everyone doing a “Service” with glum faces and can hardly talk to you. Must be the fact that Tunbridge Wells has gone right down hill and is taking it’s youngsters with it.

When shopping in the Royal Victoria Shopping Centre (and even if you're not shopping), Taste Wells is a very good place to drop into for a drink and / or a snack. We dropped in for lunch and a very good lunch it was. The staff were very friendly and helpful and did everything they could to ensure that my wife's Gluten Free diet was not compromised. The quiche I had was delicious.

Always visit when I am in T/W the food is always fresh and so pleased jacket potatoes are back on the menu, however missing the gypsy tarts

Awful service 15 plus mins to get my coffee, which was the wrong order, they offered me a wrong one first that was after ten mins. Not busy no reason just poorly organised. Staff member just put it down walked away said nothing. That was after I asked where was my coffee...politely I add. I left my coffee in the end as I was feeling uncomfortable.

Beware, flippant attitude towards allergy and Disgusting service!!! Rude, abrupt and generally unpleasant experience from staff AND manager! They really don’t care a monkey’s about their customers, or what they were serving! My elderly mum was treating me and my adult son to coffee and cake for a wedding cloths hunt for granny. Special day marred by this cafe experience. I chose my cake, but they brought a different cake, as they have different labels on the stand verses what the cake actually is to them. Carrot cake arrived lathered in sickly butter cream, but more importantly covered in walnuts, which I can’t eat, so I definitely wouldn’t have chosen it!! The response I got to this error was flabbergasting. Initially didn’t want to change the cake. They didn’t know what was in the cakes and didn’t care either! The rude, abrupt, unpleasant experience will never be repeated for me as they won’t be getting any more custom from me again. Please be wary about their complacency about food allergies even if you are prepared to put up with rudeness!

Staff always standing around and there manages are very rude and there prices are so dear in price and only take card payment only

I’ve always loved this place but I’m horrified that they now only accept cards no cash. Cash is actually legal tender so disgusted that they no longer accept this. Enough that I will no longer be going there

I asked for a sweet chilli chicken panini with cheese and a mint choc milk shake. Quick service, polite staffs and the food was absolutely delicious. Defo going back there.

Always a great place to eat. Ordering and paying at the counter, avoids selfish people taking seats before ordering - I wish more places would do that. Service always friendly and with a smile. I recommend the quiche and salad.

Our first time visiting the area so decided to stop for a drink. Was informed to order first before finding a seat, something I've never done before but in covid times we can live with this. What I found very annoying was that my wife likes a strong cup of tea. So was informed quite abruptly that I would be charged double so simply £2 for a pot of tea but for an extra tea bag I would be charged £4 which in all honesty I feel is shocking. When I refused the lady serving totted and rolled her eyes. I found this totally unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. Now for the drinks, I purchased a cappuccino but it was awful no taste whatsoever my did say that her cup of tea was OK at best. I will sadly not be venturing into this establishment again. The owners need to look at there staff. The only shinning light was the lady who brought us our drinks she was very polite

Sarah and everyone involved at Taste Wells, we just had to thank you so very much for the wonderful food you provided for my father's wake on 19th October. The food was exceptional, beautifully laid out, varied and so much of it and so, so fresh. People asked where we had got the food from and we were only too happy to recommend your wonderful service. You helped to make our sad day very special!!!! Can't thank you all enough

Met my friend here for lunch about a week ago and enjoyed it. Ordering is a little confusing as you order your food from one counter, they give you a ticket and then you have to go to another counter to order your drinks and give them the food ticket? Anyway, we took a while to chose what to eat as there was such a vast selection! I opted for the Italian Chicken Flatbread and my friend opted for the Tuna and Cheese Panini. Food and drinks arrived in good time, I was slightly disappointed to see that the chicken I had was breaded goujon style, which is not really my thing. I would of preferred sliced chicken breast but this was not clear on the menu that it was breaded. We ordered another lot of hot drinks, when they arrived the server had her fingers all over the top of the coffee cup to hold it onto the saucer which we both was odd and a bit unhygienic. When she set the coffee down we noticed that about 1/4 of the coffee had spilled and the saucer was swimming. We then had to ask for this to be changed. We enjoyed our lunch and thought it was reasonable value.

Called here for brunch, on the 1st Friday in December .I had the big club toasted sandwich and my wife had a turkey salad ,ham etc,etc sandwich .All looked visually appealing and tasted great. We had flat whites and tea to drink

In the Royal Victoria,came out of M&S and needed coffee. Saw Taste Wells and decided to try.Greeted warmly and sat down and waited for my order.Cappuccino and cheese scone excellent can! Can recommend and I will be returning!

Delightful coffee shop. They are always smiling and ready to help. I always enjoy a ciao latte and warmed up cheese scone. A must every time I am in town

Took our 4 year old somewhere new this week and he moaned so much that their babiccinno wasn’t as good as the one in the shopping centre so yes we are now sat at Tastes having another one!Luckily the sandwiches and food are great too!

Shabby, dirty and crowded! Food mediocre - panini was tasty but the crisps clearly had been open for a while and were soft and presentation was seriously lacking. Staff not on the ball but friendly enough. All in all need to up the act guys. Clean the tables, clean the floor. Wipe the condiment pots on the table and fgs replace those tatty, dirt in ground chairs and de-clutter the area.

Visited xmas eve morning, waited to be acknowledged, even though there were two “servers” stood around. Ordered two mince pies and a large cappuccino. Paid and waited for my coffee, only to be told after 5 mins that it would be brought over to me.5 mins later the mince pies turned up, 20 mins later the coffee turned up. They were not even busy. Six people behind the counter, 23 customers. I see why Costa is busy, 20 mins wait would have seen 20 + customers served and happy.Never again.

We are Taste Wells most consistently happy family customers, value for money and continued good choice for all our family members. Conveniently situated in centre of Royal Victoria Place, we are always greeted with smiles and efficient staff. Well done chaps!

Had to ask 4 times before I was able to obtain a glass for the drink I had purchased. Getting the dirty table wiped was a feat in itself! The attitude didn’t help either, I was just a nuisance.

We both had the same a Italian hot wrap with mozarella, peppers, pesto. Really tasty but the pesto was very runny that each time you took a bite it went everywhere which was a shame.

I just went here for a sandwich because I wanted some lunch and I didn’t expect how good it would be! I am definitely coming back here! The rest of my family enjoyed theirs so therefore I would highly recommend this place!

Not a bad place for a coffee and I like the fact that unlike most of the multiple chain coffee shops, you can actually order a flat white in different sizes. The taste of the coffee was better than most higher street chain coffee shops. Table service a nice touch, as prevents people hanging around the till area waiting for their drinks to be prepped.

Great cake, lovely tea but above all...amazing customer service from Aggie. Ask for Aggie when you visit and prepare to be amazed!

I’ve been here quite a few times and it seems to be pot luck if you get service with a smile. The owner is very friendly as are the older ladies that work here. As for the young blonde girl, I’ve never had a smile from her! She barely looks at you. I’m in the service sector and if I greeted my customers this way we wouldn’t be in business long! I’m sat here now watching the staff and it’s only the owner that talks or acknowledges the customers. The rest just ignore everyone one and I’ve just seen 3 of the younger staff members turn their backs on the service area ignoring the poor couple stood there! Shocking. Finally being served by the owner.

Great choice of Sandwiches, Panini's, Baguettes Delicious soups. Italian Wraps, Sausage Rolls Milk Shakes Coffees & Teas all well presented and served with a smile .

I'm usually a McDonalds kinda girl but today tried this place - very nice surprise - food great - nicely presented and service with a smile which you don't get much these days unfortunately - will defo be back!

We just wanted a snack and took a chance on this place. What came up was a tasty nicely presented piri-piri chicken baguette and a delicious hot Mediterranean vegetable wrap. Excellent stuff

The food and service was excellent, I had the coronation chicken sandwich which is lovely They have just expanded in size so it is nice to sit there and watch the world go by. Very relaxed atmosphere would go again

Even if counter staff are busy an initial acknowledgement of a new customer is always polite; in this instance, after waiting past a reasonable time I eventually had to engage a service member myself, who looked rather annoyed at being disturbed. Not a good start. There was no effort to improve the service throughout the transaction; indeed if the staff had shared just a degree of their enthusiasm in conversing between themselves then everyone would have been the winner. After an inordinately long wait for the snack I had ordered, and with no service follow-up, I eventually had to chase the food up myself. At this point there were SEVEN staff members behind the counter and SIX customers, so staff shortage was not an excuse. A real shame because when the food eventually arrived it was lovely and ordinarily I'd go back, but the service was so appalling I'll choose another.

Stopped here today for an inpromptu lunch with my toddler. We had a prawn baguette, salad and coleslaw, drinks and a kids lunch box for £11. Very tasty food, fresh bread and baguettes. Lovely tables and clean. Will definitely use this as a coffee stop in future rather than the big coffee shops. They have cakes too which I'm looking forward to sampling next time!

We were staying in the general area so a visit here for lunch was a must! I had the King club sandwich and cappuccino and my wife some other lunch dish and cappuccino. My sandwich was one of the best I have had at a food outlet/restaurant/café –well presented, full of flavour and a generous size! My cappuccino was not very hot-should have taken it back but will not effect my rating due to quality of toasted sandwich

Como estábamos visitando el área llamado aquí para el almuerzo como sus sándwiches son siempre muy bien para comer. Tuvimos gran club sándwich, pollo panini y 2 blancos plana. Realmente generoso para repetir - mi sandwich tostado era Visualmente muy atractivos y llenos de sabor. Volveremos cuando esté en la zona.

Aged p wanted a snack not a meal although I think she regrets it now. Have passed this place before and it is usually full. I ordered the cheese sandwich with lettuce and cucumber on white bread (she only likes white bread) and a toasted...

Me encanta este lugar. La comida está recién hecha y el servicio es rápido. Todo el personal es muy agradable y amable y servicial. Yo caído café en mi mesa ayer, y el barista era más como una bala para aclararlo y él era tan agradable para mí (mis manos tiemblan a menudo conseguir) - y me puso en mi facilidad.

Mis amigas y yo pasamos un desayuno en Montagu. Genial! Muy buen servicio (especialmente la chica rubia no muy alto;) y el capuchino increíble!! Volveremos muy pronto! Gracias

Nos alojamos en la zona llamado aquí para ojala tenga más o menos experiencia para repetir cuando estuvimos la última en abril! No nos decepcionó! Tuve la gran club sándwich y mi esposa pollo pan, plana cappuccino y el té. Probablemente el mejor sandwich que he comido fuera de aspecto y sabor tan bueno algunos del personal parecía un poco desanimados. Sin embargo la calidad de la comida y el sabor era tal que este tiene que ser un sitio de 5 estrellas

Regular visitors to this coffee/sandwich place. Coffee is good, cakes and nice, sarnies are fab but most of all the staff are brilliant. Friendly, helpful and efficiant.

Called here for a late breakfast/early lunch .We had Montagues breakfast toastie & full monty club sandwich with cappucinos. Attentive service, very well presented generous food, which tasted exceptionally good .A gem of a place!

My usual stop over whilst spending time shopping in the shopping centre in Royal Tunbridge Wells. In such a handy place (near to the M&S). Serves great food - the usual sandwiches, salads, quiche etc but everyone is really jolly (especially the wonderful manager (or is she owner). Warmly recommended.

Brilliant food and coffee is what brings us back time after time. Family run business and service with a smile every time.

I found Montagu's in the Royal Victoria Place - I had a bowl of Thai Chicken Soup and a mixed cheese sandwich, I was so delighted with both, the soup was incredible and I had to take the sandwich away with me. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - and cheerful which makes a change to most of the cafes. Would recommend it to everyone. Sandy

The Coffee was good, the Panini's ok. It was too bus for being nice, table's too close to eachother. We were here for lunch. Everything was overcrowded because it was 4th Christmas Day maybe.

Visit Montagu's regularly and it's always good. The Thai Chicken Soup is the best soup ever. The service is great and the fact that it is always busy shows you exactly what people think of it.

Stopped here as wanted lunch, located in shopping centre, good displays of fresh food, had sandwich and soup, very helpful staff, nice food and nice place to sit, would recommend

My wife and myself have being going there for many years, at least twice a week. Food is great, all freshly prepared to order. Staff are so friendly and helpful. My wife is disabled and in a wheelchair and the staff always manage to fit us in somewhere. Dont just take my word for it. give it a go yourself. DAVE.

Wide variety of toasties, sandwiches and salads, welcoming and friendly service felt at home. The food is lovely and the coffee is the best i have had in Tunbridge Wells. the fact that it is always busy reflects the quality of the place. would highly recommend this.
