Visited here on a Friday lunch time. It is situated above a food hall near Rochdales outdoor market. There is a lift into “cafe” if you struggle with stairs. Parking is free in Rochdale centre on the town hall for a few hours and is a short walk. The menu is not extensive. There were specials on but most of which were sold out. The cakes, I believe , are home made and did look delicious. We both had a steak Canadian, a mocha and a coke. Mocha didn’t really taste of anything. Steak Canadians were basic with a small salad. Cost around £20. The place is beautiful, spacious, very clean and modern inside and very light which I liked a lot as I hate eating in dark places. Some interesting things on menu, and staff were ok. Toilets are down lots of steps. I hope they do well as a new small business in an up and coming town centre.

Took my Mum for her birthday from phoning to book and arriving felt so welcomed. Staff were lovely. The afternoon was amazing, you could tell everything was homemade. A lovely little cafe in the heart of Rochdale with views of the river and town hall. Highly recommend. Best afternoon tea in Rochdale

I have been to Montague's on a number of occasions and quite randomly myself, my grandma, sister, niece and nephew went in for food after looking at Rochdale's artisan market (a new hot spot for locals). We were seated promptly and had an amazing view looking over the market and were able to listen to live music. There is a play area for children and the menu/specials board is fantastic. Even better Prosecco is sold! Our afternoon was amazing and the girls who work there are so accommodating. It is just what we needed in our little but big town.

To start with a positive the food was really good - terrific presentation and very tasty. Even the tea and coffee was good, hot and in lovely cups and teapot. Congratulations to the chef. But the service was terrible. I can't remember having such bad service. It was busy although there were empty tables when we arrived. A young waitress was just plain rude. When she came to take our order . She just looked at us and didn't say 'can I take your order, thank you for waiting etc.' - very odd. She forgot to bring us tap water we asked for. To be honest I had forgotten too, but when I remembered I went to the counter and asked for the water and said, she had forgotten. She brought the water to us and slammed the bottle on the table. She was very aggressive. Maybe she was having a bad day? We had been waiting for our order for some time. I asked an older, blonde waitress who was clearing a table next to us, when our food would arrive as we had a hospital appointment and were keeping an eye on the time. She immediately said, they were very busy and didn't know. I asked if she could find out for us. She didn't leave the table and said '5 minutes'. We didn't say anything more. When our food eventually arrived we enjoyed it. I went to pay at the counter and the younger waitress give me the bill which already included an optional 10% charge. I said I wasn't going to pay that today . I thought she might combust on the spot. Maybe they were both having a bad day?
