Monsoon in Kirklees

We absolutely love this restaurant. We have been visiting for around 18 years! The food has always been fantastic and excellent service. We have a lot of happy memories here.

I am rubbish at eating really hot, spicy food and find most places make food too hot for my palate, even when I request mild dishes. Not so Monsoon - they are the only place I know where mild means mild. We were there tonight and it was busy as it’s New Years’ Eve. But the food was absolutely delicious. Service slower due to number of customers there, but very friendly.

Went here for a late evening meal ,The food and service was excellent. The staff are very friendly.The Restaurant is very clean .

Myself and a group of friends visited Monsoon recently for a meal on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival we were shown quickly to our table and a drinks order was taken nearly straight away. We had to catch a waiter's attention to place our order, but to be fair I quite liked that they weren't rushing us and they were letting us take the night at our own pace. The first time I visited Monsoon was around 15 years ago, and if you'd seen the restaurant then you'd forgive me for having to check my watch to see which year I was in- the restaurant is clean and pleasant but it is a total time warp! We started off with poppadoms and pickle trays all round- a real bug bear of mine is restaurants that provide tiny pickle trays, but those at Monsoon are well-sized and well stocked. Great start! I opted for the tandoori mixed kebab as a starter. The chicken was slightly dry, but overall the flavour was pleasant, the mix of meats was well-judged, and the portion size was just right. For the main, I played quite safe and went for the Lamb Tikka Masala. It is a bit of a habit of mine to order the Chicken Tikka Masala when visiting Monsoon, as I think the sauce is fantastic. However, on this occasion I switched the Chicken for the lamb. The sauce was still fantastic, but the quality of lamb used in the dish seemed to be quite poor. The lamb was quite dry and chewy, and it felt a bit like you had to power through it in the end. We were all far too full to think about desserts, but washed it down with another Cobra for good measure. For 5 of us to have Poppadoms and Pickle Tray, a starter, main and two Cobras worked out at just under £30 each, which despite minor niggles I thought was good value. It wasn't my first time at Monsoon, and I doubt it'll be the last.

Went for my grandsons 18th lovely food and the service was good because we were a large party in all it was a brilliant night

Firstly, I must say that the service is always pleasant. Out starters were great, but the meats on the main course need attention. The chicken is always too dry and the lamb is always chewy compared to other nearby competitors. It becomes a chore to get to the bottom of the dish. Such a shame, but easily sortable. Fish or vegetable for me if and when I visit again.

We have been dining at Monsoon Tandoori for many years, we have tried most of the menu and enjoyed each dish. The staff here are truly lovely, we really enjoy the service, the chat and are always made to feel most welcome.

I went alone as I was staying locally on business. I hadn't booked but I was welcomed in. The menu is wide-ranging, and I was able to choose something new to me. I had a starter that was served in a Yorkshire pudding and a nice fruity lamb curry main. All was served quickly and well. The food was excellent and well presented. The keema naan bread was lovely as well! All in all a great meal.

Had a lovely meal on a cold February night. Chicken saag royal and chicken Asanak are both lovely washed down with a pint of cobra Staff are friendly and chatty and will offer advice on food choices depending how you like your curry We pop in quite often and the Royal Saag will be on the radar each time ;)

This is one of our favourite restaurants. last night we went as a party of 10. They were so busy all tables downstairs full and a couple of big parties upstairs. Staff were so attentive and looked after our friend who needed gluten free. Understandably service took a little longer than usual but all food arrived piping hot and we all had a fabulous time. Would recommend 100%

We made the big mistake of dining here on Christmas Day. Not only was the food appalling & inedible, they also charged us Adults prices for three children aged 4, 7 and 9 (Menu states 12 years & under). Despite us raising this with staff & management they have still refused to refund their error claiming we ordered Adults. Clearly a lie as they served no starters to the 3 children and different desserts. Rip off. Won’t be back again, plenty of other better quality, more professional & friendlier restaurants in the area.

We couldn't fault the service - swift but not too swift and very polite. Onion bhajees were good, then it was all downhill. Not one of the dishes had any depth of flavour - I wouldn't have kniown I was eating a curry it was so bland. The Korma looked as though it had had Carnation milk added for sweetness and colour, a lamb dish was chewy and tough. If my chicken dish contained 60g of chicken, that was all - lots of sauce, little meat. The rice was dry and only a tad warm. All in all, disappointing - won't return.

After searching Tripadvisor for a good takeaway as we are travelling the area I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed the food from here friendly service I have no complaints at all the tandoori chicken masala was not sweet it was perfect before we leave the area we will definitely go back

Just been to Monsoon for a family meal. Wide age range. Everyone really enjoyed everything about the experience. The food was delicious and plentiful and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We were served like old friends even though it was our first time there. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you Monsoon.

This place never lets us down! We visit very regularly and the food is always delicious. We live locally and love to have this restaurant in our village

I have the same dish, bit boring, but it never fails to disappoint. Only downside is that when they ask you if you would like any poppadoms they charge you ( I'd expect) but add like an additional 4 quid for the dips. Bit naughty

Friendly staff on arrival. Nice selection of dishes and staff recommendations on menu. Very nice food and very tasty but strange to see biryani with omelette on top but delicious all the same

This place has la lovely feel to it. The menu is extensive, the food is beautifully prepared and there is a great range of side dishes. My only gripe would be the rather strange management 'rule' that you can only have poppadoms delivered to your table once you have ordered your main meal. Personally, I want to eat poppadoms while I peruse the menu. I would have given the review five stars were it not for this.

Excellent menu choice, good quality food and service from friendly experienced staff. We've been eating there for many years and will continue to do so. Also, excellent take-away if required.

Had our usual family gathering at the Monsoon over the Christmas period and had a great time.The food was lovely and the service was brilliant never had to want for anything which was very impressive as there were two other large party's as well as ours.

We have enjoyed a lot of Indian food this winter so we headed to try a local favourite with our friends on Boxing Day. Not only was it an absolute bargain at £13 for 4 courses but it was delicious too and the staff were really friendly. We started with the traditional Poppadoms and Pickle Tray. This was followed by Chicken Dossa which was a new one for us but tasted great, and Lamb Tikka which was soft and juicy and not overdone like Lamb can be. Our main courses were the Monsoon Special which was full of flavour and topped with melted cheese, and the Chicken Tikka Tandoori which was again cooked perfectly and not overdone and was paired with a lovely curry sauce packed with potatoes and vegetables. On the side we had a gorgeous soft Keema Naan Bread and Special Pilau Rice which was so tasty. The only negative i would mention is the spirit prices are on the high side but would just stick to the lovely Cobra beer next time. A really tasty meal and we wouldnt hesitate to go again

Lovely food, lots of flavoursome dishes to choose from and super friendly service from the staff. Can’t fault the cuisine and we tend to dine here weekly.

Go here a lot last time chicken was really tough out 1/2 the main dishes ordered not good when paying high prices.

The service was great. The food was tasty and plenty of it and the place was in a good location. The meal was great value.In case monsoon read this review, I really like to get to know the waiter when I go out for dinner, but we had a different waiter (who were all really freindly) ever time we were attended to. Busy little restraunt in Slaithwaite spotlessly clean, with excellent service, service was excelent, the food arrived quickly, was hot and well presented, what more can i say, would i go again, you bet.

Went to the monsoon in Slaithwaite as my friend said she had heard good reports . The staff and service I could not fault but the curry was terrible never had tandoori chicken in little strips before hardly any chicken lots of sauce that tasted like it was out of a jar .really disappointing especially as we had travelled quite a distance to go

We walked in around 6pm on Saturday evening. The friendly staff found us a table straight away, despite not having booked.Service is quick and very polite and friendly. We had starters followed by 3 side dishes to share and other sundries. Everything was delicious and there was plenty of it. By around 6.30 the restaurant was around a third full. Customers were coming in for take out food who were clearly loyal, local people. All the staff were smiling and great with everyone.My husband and I are vegetarian and we were well catered for. The dishes we had were gorgeous and a meal for 2 with drinks was around £30. Very reasonable.I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Go to this restaurant about every six weeks and have never been disappointed great food and very friendly staff.

Excellent food, exceptional quality and taste. Service was by far the best. The waiter Mumin was very friendly and took care of me and my table very well and provided excellent service. Food was spot on tasted the best. Starters mains and deserts were the best in north west by far.

Another fabulous meal. Been coming here for over 20 years and it's as good as ever. Great way to avoid the power cut at home.

The food as always was great but I can’t believe I was charged £3 for what is basically a tap water with a dash of cordial, they were selling beers that were cheaper.

Periodically we call into the Monsoon for a curry but recently it is becoming more infrequent due to the very average/poor standard. It has always been a little hit or miss especially when it is busy but on this last occasion the food was extremely poor with the curries being bland and rushed! We won't be going back again anytime soon :(

Offers a variety of Indian styles rather than one style. The resturaunt also has English type curry like Madras and tikka neither traditional Indian. Food was very good.

I have tried curries in India, bradford and london, but love this place as never dissapointed with the quality of the meat and chicken. I like spice so order lamb korahi, or the royal chicken is excelkent. The service is friendly and relaxed. Expect to pay around 40 for a main, started and a drink.

We called here after doing the real ale trail as it came recommended. It certainly didn’t disappoint we got there at 7 to be told wait for tables but that was soon over and the food was outstanding

I've not been here for many years. I had a lamb chop starter which were not the best I'd but not the worst. The lamb saag was tasty and along with a nicely cooked garlic naan made a nice meal. Good service

Went here last night to attend a fund raiser, to say they catered for 40+ people upstairs the service and food were excellent, hot, tasty and plenty of it, would recommend it !!

The food is ok. Not great just ok. Service is the same. Just ok. The coffee is very good. Food is a bit over priced. Nice building. Won't hurry back

80 quid for 2 starters and a 4 mains, services disrespectful and unappreciative. Live locally and will never come back tried to complain and not interested just want pissed people’s cash. Food was poor kids g prawns were smaller than a normal prawn cocktail. Ronaq is far better.

Love this place, we come here time and time again and have done so for many a year. We now take our children with us and enjoy the occasional takeaway. Never disappointed

we arrived as a group of six, who had booked a table in advance. The table was pointed out to us and the menus were thrown on to the table before we had even sat down. We hadn't even taken our coats off when another waiter was asking us if we wanted drinks. We asked him to come back later and he did...2 minutes later. no welcome from anyone. Not a good start.

After trying it a few weeks ago and thinking it was nice i went back tonight and ordered what felt like half the menu only for everyone to agree that the chicken was disgusting inluding my wife who i have never known to spit anything out before in the 5 years i have known here.

Been coming here years but not been for a while met some good friends there and again no complaints about the food or service always go out their way to talk to you and are happy to recommend if you cant decide what you want highly recommended

I have been here a couple of times, I am usually happy with the service and food. However, on this occasion I felt the serviced wash rush and we were being rushed to finished our course, whether starters or otherwise. Even though the restaurant wasn't full at the time. One of the main dishes came as a beef and not lamb as ordered. Food was still tasty but waiter didn't know the menu and thus useless on recommending anything from it. Although it hasn't put me of goimg again. I think I will seek somethimg else next time and it will not be my number 1 choice going forward in the village.

Don't know what happened but we got nothing but obnoxious comments from Hassan - i made sure I found out his name because he was unbelievably rude and sarcastic- food however was good but certainly will not go back because of Hassan attitude

This is a very basic curry house not the best , my curry on Monday 2nd Jan was very very greasy , I DID NOT enjoy it at all , Will not be returning in an hurry !!!

Went on New Years day for a family meal and had a great time .Food was great staff were great and the atmosphere was great.There was ten of us and we all ordered something different and although the restaurant was very busy we did not have long to wait for our food.

Latest visit to the Indian restaurant in the centre of Slaithwaite (not Huddersfield as TA)Very popular and full restaurant.. Booking advised for the Christmas / Nee Year menus which are well good value at 4 courses for 10.95.Courses are popadum,starter,main and side. Naturally drink is extra. Courses are from the standard menu and some extra pleasure is the free irish cream at the end.Service excellent, food and company great...super time as usual Always recommended

We visited on Saturday evening catching up with friends from Slaithwaite Band in total there were 24 of us. Nice welcome on arrival and good atmosphere in the restaurant itself. There were many and varied dishes ordered around the table and all looked lovely, we had poppadum and pickles to start followed by the mixed starter of a meat samosa and onion bhaji. For mains I had the lamb shukria which was very tasty and not too hot, my husband decided to have the chicken biryani which arrived with a very thin omelette on top of the rice and chicken with a separate serving of vegetable curry, he wasn't able to finish all of it there was so much! Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and would certainly eat here if I lived locally!

Excellent service and wonderful food on this visit. Can highly recommend the Lamb tikka garlic shahi balti! Maybe a little more expensive than some nearby competitors, but knocks the spots off them. You get what you pay for. We'll be back soon!

Went on Tuesday night for my birthday & it was really quiet, just one other couple in. Enjoyable evening, staff friendly & food nice, apart from onions bargees which were really dry & crispy. Will return but wont have same thing.

Well there wasn't a menu in the window... When we sat down and looked at the menu the reason was there!!! It would have scared us away. We ordered thinking that the price might reflect the food. What a sad let down, Very small portions indeed. £4.95 for a few tiny flavourless bits of fish massala. We cancelled the mains and left. Try Ronaq punjabi around the corner.

From booking on the telephone a week previous to our visit through to leaving at the end of a very enjoyable evening , the professionalism of the staff was impeccable. We made the suggestion of this restaurant to a couple of friends who hadn't been before and they both described the food as fantastic.. From the poppadoms to the starters to the mains and sides all I can say is delightful .. The atmosphere was great, all created by the buzz of a full restaurant and great staff.. What a good recipe for success .. We hadn't been for quite a while, but we won't leave it so long next time !!

Used to visit here a lot and thought would give it another go. Everything was "ok" but no better than that. Sauces all seemed similar and just didn't do it for us. Better and cheaper similar restaurants in the Village now.

Went with friends for a night out. Good atmosphere and were soon taken to our table and before we knew it ordering our drinks and food. Onion bhaji's are an absolute must!! So crispy and tasty, delicious. Waiter came and took our empty plates and whilst in conversation was telling us that upon request if you wanted them more "well done"just to ask, but we explained that golden and crispy was just fine with us. Mains came and again lovely. My chicken shukira was just how I asked for it "mild". Friends meals were lovely and tasty too. Although prices have gone up a little, over £2 for a pint soda and lime!! Still a good night was had. Well worth a visit if in area. Will be back.

This restaurant is un fault able. One of the best Indians around with excellent staff to match. Good atmosphere whilst dinning, attentive staff that can't do enough for you. Tasty curries and starter you can't beat the lamb tikka out of this world! Best place for a family dinner or a date night with your partner! Love this place couldn't recommend it enough!!

We visited Monsoon for the first time recently and were impressed with the range of curries on offer. Although it is more expensive than many of the comparable restaurants in the area, the food was delicious and I am sure we will visit again.

Been eating here for years, lovely food and good service. If visiting on a Saturday, better booking as it gets busy. Nothing too much trouble for you there. Always a friendly welcome in comfortable surroundings.

It's some time since we went... and wont be going again.When we went in to collect the pre ordered take away I was told an inflated price. When I asked to pay on my Card I was debited the correct price for the dishes.Additionally overall the food wasn't that good either.

I have visited the Monsoon over many years and it has been consistently good. Very good food enhanced by the friendly, helpful and intelligent service.

We are lucky to live locally and so we are spoiled to have the Monsoon on our doorstep. We stray from time to time but always come back because the Monsoon is the best.

The place old do with a bit of refurbishment as it's looking a bit dated. The curry is good but nothing spectacular. I do like the added touch of a shot of bailey's at the end of the meal rather than a chocolate mint. Overall your sure to have nice meal.

This has been one of my favourite Indian's in Huddersfield for many years and seems to have changed hands since my last visit (quite a few months ago). We visited Monsoon this time on a Sunday tea time and although we hadn't booked, there were plenty of free tables early on although it got quite busy later on so either book in or go early doors. The service was very friendly and attentive and our order was taken very quickly. We had the mixed starter and mixed grill to start with followed by a lamb tikka pathia and a chicken tikka Balti with the usual sides and additions. All were very nice and very authentic and no complaints whatsoever. On paying the bill they gave us complimentary baileys and I even liked that they took Amex as a payment method as not many eateries do. We won't leave it so long next time and will be back very soon for more delicious authentic Indian food.

I've eaten more than my fair share of Indian/Pakistani food over the years! Some bad and some brilliant.Monsoon just about covers the average in my eyes. 4 of us had different curries but the sauces all looked the same! The descriptions sound better than the end result.Everyone has their own opinions and there are better restaurants out there. Don't think we shall be returning I'm afraid.

This place is excellent.They serve a fine range of Asian Cuisine and they treat you like royalty,serving you with all your requirements.

This restaurant has nice food, with good choice and it is nice quiet place to eat with friends. The service is very good and the price is reasonable.

Mid week treat after a busy day at work - warm welcome and great food as ever. The onion bhajis are world class

Good Indian restaurant in Slaithwaite centre. Very popular and well priced dishes. Friendly staff keen to advise customers. Dishes a mix of standard curries and tandoori with Bangladesh specials. Excellent way to spend 2 hours with good food,cold beers and free cream liqueur to finish.

I'm a little bit concerned about this place, now the food is great and it comes out hot and I must admit it's very tasty - but what concerns me is the huge crack no wait gap in the wall of the ladies toilet along with the slightly crooked floor and the moving toilet??? Personally I think you have subsidence and need to get it sorted before you loose half of your building. I'm scared of visiting just Incase I'm in there when the building looses a wall.

First time I have been to this Slaithwaite Curry House. Ive seen it packed so went mid week late on when it was much less busier.Big menu with choices for everyone. Usual formats..tandooris, biryani ,kormas, meat and fish as well as plenty of sides like rice and nan. Friendly staff and good service and overall a comfortable meal that did not feel anything other than relaxing. Draft Cobra beer was appreciated as was the Irish Cream we all were given at the end. Nice touch and definitely a place to return to.If Monsoon was listed under Slaithwaite it would be top or nearly top in TA list rather than being in the top quarter of the Huddersfield list.

Absolutely love this place.Their food is devine and the staff are fantastic and always willing to help.Unfortunately they don't deliver. They would have so much more business if they delivered.

We have now visited this restaurant on two occasions and both times the food has been of a fantastic standard, it arrives hot and is tasty. The only real downside is that you feel rushed, we were eating our starters when the waiter kept coming over and peering at our table after 3 or 4 times he asked "are you ready for your mains?" while we were all still eating, a little annoying to say the least as not only were we not ready but we were also conscious that this meant our meal was probably going cold in the kitchen so we packed up the starters and said yes. I can understand it when you take forever to eat but we weren't eating slowly. The food was, as before, excellent so that is why I gave it a 4/5 rather than a 2 or 3.

Always a fan of a good curry, certainly wasn't disappointed!huge menu with lots of choice to suit every taste, good levels of heat which can be tailored to individual taste.Friendly staff, quick service and they even do takeaway.Cobra beer on tap as well.Will definitely be going again, and sure to order takeaway in the future.

The food is a little better than the average Indian restaurant and the staff are friendly and helpful. There was a buzz about the place which lent itself to great evening with friends.

We live locally an visit the Monsoon on an almost weekly basis. Every visit meets our aspirations and expectations. The service is always friendly and courteous and the food never disappoints! One of our favourites has to be the Tandoori Mix, a truly tasty combination of a Tandoori chicken quarter, shish kebab, lamb & chicken tikka pieces and tikka king prawns served with a curry sauce, salad and naan - enough to fill the biggest appetite! We cannot recommend this place highly enough and feel you get excellent value for money.

We have dined here before but has been a while, we had been out in Slaithewaite and decided to eat out so got to the monsoon at about 10.15 and it was dead quite. the service was good and the waiter very good and accommodating.The food was served promptly and as ordered the lamb chops for starters was very tasty although not on the menu as a starter portion they obliged by making two portions.The mains was very tasty having usual keema dopiaza and channa masala but I had a taste of the other dishes our party had and all tasted good.

As usual first class food and first class service. This is one of our local restaurants and the food never fails to impress. Plates are always hot, Food sizzling. Staff friendly and courteous. Never had any problems and nothing is too much trouble.

Me and my partner tried this restaurant Easter Bank Holiday weekend. The staff were lovely, the food was excellent and we will definitely eat here again.

We went this evening to dine at this restaurant. Normally we have quite a good experience. However this evening the staff treated us no better than the dirt on the bottom of their shoe.Sadly one of our party wanted to swap a curry sauce, within a set meal, for a portion of chips instead. This probably would have worked out cheaper for the restaurant, however we were told this would not be possible and in the end, because of the shocking customer service and the rude waiter, we almost walked out and went to dine elsewhere.In the end, we were charged for a curry sauce that the diner did not want or eat, and we were also charged additionally for a second portion of chips.I am sad to say that this experience has left a very bad taste and unfortunately, despite being a loyal customers for quite some years, we will never be back again, as long as the sun shines in the sky.Judging by tonight's dining experience, 'one star' seems generous for this place. If there was a zero rating I would have definitely chosen it.Very poor service. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Came here on Monday with my partner, 2 children and a family friend. The service was good and the food even better!! Chicken korma is to die for, cooked just how I like it. All the other mains were great too. Really enjoyed our visit, been a few times but this time was fab. Will be visiting again :) thank you

Booked a table and arrived 6.30 Sunday evening to find the restaurant half full. Our party chose the set menus and the food was of good quality and served swiftly. Bill came to just under £100 for our party of 6 and we did have two rounds of drinksOverall a very enjoyable night and we would recommend.

Went here with my husband, u can often go in without booking, lovely service and food..Good choice of vegetarian but my husband is not Vegi and loves the meat dishes as well. As it was near christmas we were given free baileys as well with the bill...lovely!

Fantastic curry and service. Six of the girls out for a meal we all had various starter&mains which we were all very impressed with. The staff were very welcoming . Definitely would reccomend to try for yourself

The food here is top notch, some of the best Indian we have had in a good while. To top it off the service is superb.

The staff are always welcoming. We arrived on Mad Friday, it was very busy and we were hoping they could fit us in for a meal. They found us a table and weren't disappointed. The food was lovely, again. Thank you for being so accommodating.

Monsoon is a very reliable restaurant, its food is good, the service is good, and price is ok. I have been here a few times, and I guess I get a little frustrated because it could be amazing. But I will be back, and I will recommend it to everybody as being a very good curry house.

When ever I take a trip up to the north west to visit my mother allways take her to monsoon now I don't want to confuse people because the food here is nice but !!! There was 3 of us and orderd 3 diffrent currys we all tried each other's currys and they all tasted the same I did talk to the manger his reply was if you want more flavor ask and we will put more chille in there for you ...... No they all taste the same it needs flavor not chillieBut besides that there ok
