Miller and Carter Caversham Heights in Reading

Great Sunday lunch with Friends at Miller And Carter Caversham. Our Steak Expert was Zoe. Who was friendly and very helpful. Unusually for me I did not have steak on this visit. Had the half roast chicken with chorizo which was delicious.

First of all I’ll say the food was not the issue, the steaks and lamb were good as always. However, what was disappointing was the service. Not the usual M&C standard at all. A short sharp waitress who seemed like she was in a hurry, a waiter who just put a bottle of wine on the table not offering to open it or for us to taste it, leaving us to open and pour it ourselves, two puddings delayed and arriving after all others had been eaten. Disappointed. Can’t have been due to being busy as Valentine’s Day was heaving and service was so much better. Won’t return.

Family birthday dinner only 3 of us, place wasnt busy , asked for medium no blood steak, had to send it back twice as blood pooring through both times, ended up with no dinner as others had eaten there meal when I eventually got a poor excuse of a dinner, won't be going back or recommending sadly as it was highly rated too us

We have had a wonderful lunch with excellent service 😋 The steak was delicious and the drinks were served promptly. I can also recommend the mini dessert/cocktail - the espresso martini was a special treat. Amanda was our server and gave us fabulous service all delivered with a lovely smile and personality! We live 400 metres from the restaurant but don’t come here very often. Today was the best experience we have had here. The food (steak) was great. Service by Amanda was really good. I’m now thinking we will come more often. 😁🥩

Great service and personal service led by professionals. Chantai has served us numerous times and goes out of her way to smile be courteous be polite.. she is a real lady who is polite and friendly. When I type goes out of her way this is a natural trait of hers and it goes a long way in the hospitality world as you wouldn't notice any difference on a bad day

It took quite a while for our food to start coming out but we where quite a big group. The starter and stake was lovely. The sides where nothing to write home about and the salad which was probably meant to seem unique just seemed a little lazy, whole quarter lettuce with mayo and shaved parmigiana.

I’ve been here quite a bit, as it’s close by. I took my two kids today and the food has seriously gone downhill. The onion loaf was raw in the middle. My son’s 4.5oz steak had quite a bit of chewy bits so i shared mine with him. And the brownie at the end tasted like it was past its best. The service was good however. But 88 quid for an adult meal and mini dessert and then two kids two course meals when the quality isn’t there isn’t worth it for me.

It was a shame that they had run out of a couple of things on the menu that we would have liked to have had but the food and atmosphere were great.

Had a lovely waitress this evening called Jess she was very polite and friendly. Had a lovely steak meal. It was good value, we had a valentine deal.

Closes at 11 but turned away at 20.45 on a Sunday when popped in for a table for one that would have been in and out in no time. Ring beforehand if you are planning a semi late meal to avoid disappointment

Not Great! Service was ok but food not cooked to standard expected. Service charge of 10% brought bill to nearly £500 for7 adults and 6 children, definitely won't be recommending!

It was our first time visiting the Caversham Miller & Carter and we were not disappointed. The food, as always, was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Mandy was attentive and polite, and John (grill chef) cooked the most amazing cote de boeuf. We would definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon!

The dining atmosphere was lovely. All the staff we had interactions with were polite and knowledgeable. The food itself was delicious, all our starters and sides were fantastic and the steaks were cooked to perfection. We also all had deserts which may have been a mistake as we are still stuffed. Would thoroughly recommend for a treat or a special occasion.

Not great today Waitress just started to take order, then disappeared to take a payment while we were in mid order, no apologies. Ordered steak medium but came as medium rare, waitress said she would get it grilled a little more, which I declined as 1/2 way through, again not a hint of apology. My wife had to wait 10 mins for a refill of wine, which we had to remind waitress. To cap it all chef needs to curb his language whilst in earshot of customers.

Celebrated my birthday here as a party of 14. Service was excellent as was the food. Never easy with a big party but this was a fantastic night and I am glad we chose this venue. Thank you!

Very bad service and overpriced for the quality received.

We have been let down by miller and Carter before but after receiving a voucher for Christmas we thought we would give it another go, fair to say it hasn’t improved, the cheddar baked mushrooms were dull and tasteless, the steak was overcooked and tough the chips were cold and the onion loaf greasy and also cold. The restaurant it’s self was nice and the staff were lovely but the food is simply not worth the price.

We came to your restaurant for our Christmas dinner and to say we were extremely disappointed would be an understatement. From the start it was obvious that you wanted us out of the restaurant as quickly due to the speed the courses were coming out. When the food was brought out to us the canopies were hard, the starter that was served to us was not even edible to eat. We had prawns which we couldn’t even chew and swallow. My partner sent these back 3 times and was told that they would be returned to him cooked fresh but they were returned to him so quickly there was no way they were fresh off the grill. The main course was not hot and potatoes were hard. Meat was dry and looked like it was thrown on the plate. My daughter had the children’s version and did not enjoy any of her courses either. Then the last course the pudding was the final insult. Me and my partner had the meringue which was rock hard. Neither of us bothered eating it as after the first spoonful as we knew it was not edible to eat. When we complained we were offered a round of drinks. For the price of the meals we should have been offered our money back as a good will gesture. We had heard of many other people complaining that day also so it wasn’t just us that was disappointed with the meals. We have eaten at miler and carter many of times before and have always been happy with our meals. So we do not know what happened on Christmas Day as to why the quality of food went so down hill! We have told many of our family and friends what our experience was at your restaurant on Christmas Day. And no one can believe that you never even offered us a refund. To say this has left a bad taste in our mouth is a understatement. Such a disappointing experience for us to have on Christmas Day and needless to say we would not recommend any body eat here on Christmas Day again.

It was good. I certainly cannot say it was excellent or 5 stars etc but it was good. Perhaps a tad expensive for some items but not outrageous. We had the Butcher’s block for no other reason than it seemed a bit different. The steaks – Ribeye, Rump & Fillet were cooked as requested, chips OK (what can go wrong ?) the bone marrow …er…..no thanks (partner chose it as it was a sharing dish and even they were surprised) as it was supposed to be topped with beef brisket which would have been good – but where was it ??? Whatever ‘crumbs’ were on it would have fitted onto one single fork. Onion rings ? Er, no again. Disappointing as there were no rings, some deep fried crispy bits but certainly no onion rings. I would say 80% batter. We enjoyed what we had but felt that somewhere we had missed out. Staff were EXCELLENT. Top notch.

Excellent meal woas cooked to perfection. Service was good (would have liked more casual chat, but was pleasant enough). Atmosphere was good. All four of us had a great time. We will again come again

Your waitress knowledge of the menu. You have a 2 course for £29.99 when we said we would have main and dessert we were not told dessert were not included this meant the bill was £10 more than expected and the manager did not do anything to rectify this issue.

Food was cold. Some steak were undercooked. Some steak were burnt. Quality was not up to standard . Staff was good. Wrong bill was given to us. Not a good experience for us

Nice place. Has a pub area but they won’t serve anything to eat as they really don’t want people who are there for that. It says they close at 11pm but they will try to push you out at 10 if its not busy.

Always really impressed with the food here. The menu is solid and staff and friendly. I always ask what the chef recommends and they haven't let me down so far.

Would highly recommend. Food on offer was fantastic, lots of choice and steak cooked to perfection. Melt in the mouth that I have never experienced in any other restaurant we have visited. Service was excellent. Will definitely be returning.

Inaccuracy in the bill. Both eating from the lunch special, excellent value , unless the waiter messes up. We both ordered the mini dessert and coffee, pointing at it on the menu. However unbeknown to us, he brought the regular dessert and coffee and charged...
