Disappointed/underwhelmed I used to look forwards to a lunch time stop at the beautifully located meudon hotel after a walk around the local coast .Today was the first time we had visited since a change in ownership and I’m sadly disappointed. Had to hunt for service twice ( and yes I do understand that businesses have problems with staffing levels ) the bar area was like the Marie Celeste . The food is my main issue . The hummus and salad sandwich was fresh but it was made using the cheapest , thinnest sliced brown bread that I’ve seen in many a year.I’m really not fussy but if this is what’s served then I’m not impressed. I’m a local customer and I’m now not confident that I would risk bringing my family here for a full meal . Come on , don’t let yourselves down by cutting such noticeable corners.

Well presented, with flare and colour. The meals were good, although not too special, and fennel does not go with fish it overpowered the flavour of the fish. Breakfast was a little dry and not exciting. Marvellous waiting staff.

Hotel in nice grounds but the Restaurant is expensive and not great portions. We paid £24 for child's chicken and chips with an elderflower drink. My puddy seemed half the size of others. Staff were friendly though. Will not be returning again.

Valentine's & birthday treat. We had to wait two hours for our food, so our first course was at 9.50 pm, with another 20-minute wait for the main course, awful food, obvious by then, and so on ...... It seems our experience was verified by a member of staff and unique to us, but learning that didn't and doesn't, enable us to feel less humiliated by the experience.

Attracted by the signs from the SW Coast path offering all sorts of food and drink I walked up to the hotel and was greeted with what seemed to be mild surprise that someone would actually drop in. Service was painfully slow and trying to forestall this when the food eventually arrived (a salad so not complex cooking) I asked them to bring the bill. Maybe 20-30 minutes later no sign of anyone so I went back to reception rang the bell and asked to pay at the desk as I'd waited long enough but apparently that wasn't possible so I went back to the restaurant and paid. I would have declined the 10% service charge but couldn't face the wait for the bill to be reissued.

We came up from the beach and ordered a beer and a ‘tea for two’ which filled up one cup each… WHICH CAME TO £18.15. I went to question this and I said hello to the male floor manager who ignored and bypassed me and when he finally spoke to me I was patronised. I will not come back.

Dropped in when we stumbled across this cute hotel with lovely gardens. Sadly after 45 mins of trying to put a drink and food order in - promting staff 4 times - we gave up. They weren’t that busy the place only had a few guests from what we could see. Maybe it’s different if you are a guest or have booked. Could have been great. Really wasn’t.

Dropped in for a spot of lunch whilst walking one of our local routes from home. Despite repeatedly requesting menus from four different members of staff, we were left waiting, without even a glass of water, for over half an hour. It wasn’t busy - typical changeover day - quiet. Food eventually arrived (bbq steak, medium rare) after an hour. Still waiting on the water. Staff manners were diffident bordering on contemptuous. Zero effort was made to make us feel welcome, either by the maitre d’, waiter, bbq chef or receptionist. The setting was pleasant enough, however for the £100 which we spent (for two) there is an abundance of dining alternatives in nearby Falmouth and Helford who provide excellent cuisine and a hearty welcome, often with a stunning aspect to boot. We will not be adding Meudon to the list of local venues which we support through winter and summer. Disappointing. Mediocre. Complacent.

We came for an afternoon tea which was served in what I think is what they call the drawing room. Its an attractive room which was warm and inviting and we felt comfortabke and at ease. We were not so happy about being served on a flimsy foldup metal tressle table, athough it was covered with white crisp table cloths it was a bit wobbly and not ideal. I did bring this up and was offered an alternative lower sturdier (I am presuming it would have been) table which we declined as it would have meant bending down. The tea itself was good though it would have been nice to have as a choice Cornish tea, we love Tregothnan. Everything we ate was enjoyable but we did compare it to one we had recently at the Hannafor hotel in Looe which knocked spots off this one. Their cakes were much much better and their sandwiches made with much better bread. We enjoyed the food here though and I think its fair value for money. We walked in the gardens afterwards and went down to the beach, its idyllic. I would recommend the experience but I think some thought needs to be given to a better table. Also It would have been better to have a bowl of suger lumps rather than sachets. Generally the overall impression is that it's a bit makeshift. Service was fine, though I think our waiter thought I was being difficult about the table.

We stayed for lunch and had chicken ceasar salad. There were no croutons and no parmesan cheese. It was expensive for what it was. We had a bottle of Prosecco which cost £42. The next day we ate in a 2* hotel, and exactly the same bottle was £26. To add insult to injury, the Meudon added a further ten per cent to the bill. Our friend really wanted to have lunch at the Meudon, so it didn't seem appropriate to complain in her presence. We shall not eat there again.

Reserved a table for the relatively good value Sunday lunch. We had a friendly welcome and nice window table overlooking the garden. Service was good and there was a nice ambience, but food quality and presentation really varied. Smoked salmon starter sounded sophisticated but looked a bit of a mess and was just a small pile of salmon on one side of a plate, a teaspoon of crème fraiche and a bit of dill. The roast beef however was excellent - beautifully rare and generous quantity, but the sea bass was a very tiny piece of fish on a few spinach leaves with a rather cold buttery sauce alongside. Vegetables accompanying roasts were very good - amazingly crunchy roast potatoes! Gorgeous. Disappointing that the vegan main was just plain slices of roast cauliflower - no nuts or crunchy topping or chick peas to give some interest or protein! Totally unimaginative! Puddings were again mixed - disappointingly cloying vegan lemon tart (though nice to have something different!) and good sticky toffee pudding, but spiced apple crumble was unappetisingly stodgy and underdone. We enjoyed our visit, but in my view the food should be much better - and the good reviews in the press are over-rated.

Sunday lunch. Setting is very pleasant in the dining room. Jazz trio however invasive in a relatively small room. Would have refused a table right by the band...beware! The offer at Sunday lunch is good value, starter and main were good, albeit poor attention to detail by waiting staff; bread arrived halfway through starter as an afterthought, and potatoes with main course not at all until we asked, by then well into main course. They were tough and obviously warmed up. A shame as it took the edge of a decent food offering at a good price. Desserts were awful. An over firm and tasteless Panacotta and a dreadful sticky toffee pudding so solid it was like very firm marzipan. The wine was good but of course 3X uplift which is reasonable nowadays. Very busy as we left and impossible to get attention to settle the bill. The staff were plaesant but possibly undertrained. Having said all of that our first visit under new management and chef. We will return and try the evening meal, so suspend judgement until then.

So, we booked here for an afternoon tea, a treat for my wife as part of her birthday package. We booked in advance for an afternoon tea, 4.30pm, for two. Upon arrival at the hotel at reception, we were guided to an upper floor balcony/corridor with views looking over the very lovely garden. We were shown to two seats at a table which we assumed was the waiting area for us to be taken to where we would have our afternoon tea. As I looked to my my left I notice a family of 5 already eating an afternoon tea and it then dawned upon me, this is where it was to take place.. A short time passed and as someone came to serve our neighbours, they asked us if they could help us. We stated the reason for our presence and they seemed a bit lost but off they went went. A good while passed and we were eventually served with our afternoon tea. The tea (fluids) was fine but the food not. The sandwiches had started to dry out and the bread was a bit crisp, The cream tea - the scones were warm but undercooked, the cakes were fine. However, while we were seated in the corridor eating our fares,, we were interrupted by people seeking passage with suitcases and trolleys. There was also a member of staff hoovering. This was definitely not what we were expecting and I certainly wouldn't recommended it.

My husband and I made a last minute booking for Sunday lunch but sadly they were full but they helpfully took our number in case they had a cancellation. Later that day they rang to say we could go so that was delightful news. The whole experience was charming, friendly and so relaxing. There is an air of informality but smartness existed throughout. The bar/lounge is beautiful and the drinks are conservatively priced and we also liked the wine list. The menu is very straightforward without an unnecessary huge choice. Everything was perfect down to the food and service and you can't fault the ambience. The view from the dining room is so special and tropical you could almost imagine yourself in Majorca! The food was beautifully cooked and very flavoursome and the dessert was truly delicious. We have dined here many times before and feel very much part of the owners' home and really appreciate the friendly but informal but efficient ethos. It is a good value meal overall which is classy but not fussy.

I ate from the fixed price menu and was not wowed - but not disappointed either. I had a soufflé, the guinea fowl and a mousse pudding and felt that this was the best choice. We had drunk 2 bottles of Prosecco and so asked for water with the meal which was not served in a carafe with ice but rather in small glasses so that we had to ask for refills. Our wine was not topped up by the waiting staff and we were not asked whether we would like a coffee. The meal was £35 which felt expensive. Restaurant was a nice room with wonderful views and before we were seated in the restaurant we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the garden which was a nice end to a busy days work.

We have been sporadically visiting the Meudon for many years with the older generation family members and its such a shame that around the time of change (Alex Polizzi visit) things have never been quite the same. I am not referring to the the new style of dressing the hotel, in fact I embrace it, the bridge looks much improved, clean and welcoming and the pre dinner drinks room is a lot more airy and comfortable although the room up from that, how the chairs are set out did look rather like gods waiting room, some imagination of setting out many chairs should be improved there. The restaurant is much improved with the new blinds in the conservatory and the painted walls and yes no grumbles from me from changing the crockery to plane either. No, my grumble is of basic service skills, on our visit you are missing a restaurant manager, and it shows. The young girls are very polite but sadly lacking direction. With the new changes we were not sure how the land lies now, we used to get our water and wine poured for us, but we now assume from our experience this is no longer the case, also at no time did we get asked if we would like extra drinks. No side plates for our bread rolls, in fact no choice of roll, got what we were given, which was served with the soup, not all of us eat the choice of colour roll that had been chosen. The food was nice, I use that word "nice" not spectacular not stunning but nice. Carrots were far too hard, tried to cut into mine and it flew across the table. When our main meals were served there was a long wait for one of the waiting staff to ask if we would like any condiments. Once finished our meals again we waited for ages for our plates to be cleared away even though the odd member of staff were "in the area" We waited such a long time after our desert to be asked (well actually for a member of staff to actually show their face) if we would like beverages but gave up and went up stairs to pay for the bill. Shame we would have liked to have sat out in the gorgeous garden but it all took so long we had to get back home for other commitments. Could have understood if the restaurant was busy but including us there were just 9 covers! The food was actually better this time round than our last visit, although we had better service last time, perhaps we will be luck on our next visit to have a top score for both (hopefully not to fail on both accounts)There seems to be some dispute with your vouchers. We were hoping to use the "get a meal half price" when ordering a lunch only to be told (and quite bluntly) it is only valid if the word SUNDAY is on it, is this a trick that you can use every day of the week? No terms and conditions on the reverse side, you had no leg to stand on but as we don't to make a fuss on such a family occasion we said nothing, but were not impressed. We still adore the Meaudon and the gardens as it gives great comfort and pleasure to all of us, we will continue visiting but I doubt many people with be quite so romantic. There are jobs still to be done in looking after and improving this beautiful building, sanding down the window sills on the landing to get rid of the water stains from the vases, just little touches that make such a difference. Every day your manager should be walking round carrying out their "Beauty duties" but I fear the love has died for this wonderful building...............

My wife had Sunday lunch here a few weeks ago with her family and they all had a wonderful meal so we decided to go again and let me try what was hoped to be another tasty experience. Sadly not so.....whilst the staff were all very friendly the food lacked that wow factor that would attract me back again. My crab cake starter was a little over cooked and my wife's mushroom souffle was tasteless. We both had roast lamb and had to wait for nearly 10 minutes for some mint sauce, the vegetables were nice but everything needed some seasoning.....all a bit tasteless. I was going to ask for some extra roast potatoes but on tasting them I was glad I didn't...not the best in the world. Pudding was ok...nothing special......which sums up the meal altogether really.....all ok but nothing special.....sorry.

Yesterday we tried the Wednesday special offer lunch of a 3 course meal. This includes a main course of a roast. We rang to say we were vegetarian and on arrival were offerred a menus with two choices for each course - all vegetarian. We had butternut squash and basil soup with an excellent warm roll, followed by cheese vegetable roast with thyme roasted potatoes, chantenay carrots and green beans. This was superb one of our best meals for months, with such good flavours. This was follwed by sticky toffee cheesecake for me and chocolate raspberry mousse for my other half. Excellent coffee was included and all for £14 each, an absolute bargain. I am very surprised at the last two reviews as over the years we have never had a bad meal at the Meudon.

Having had an absolutely appalling meal a few weeks ago we were given a 2 for 1 voucher. One of us had lamb and the other had beef. Both were inedible. The veg were good and the desserts ok but the meat was so tough we had to leave it. We pointed it out to the waitress who told the chef and he said there was nothing wrong with it. No apology from the chef or the manager. The manager said that lamb is supposed to be fatty and have gristle in it! They gave us another voucher which I don't think we will be using. There were just 8 diners in the restaurant for Sunday lunch which, for a restaurant that seats 50 or 60, tells a story!

Went for Saturday dinner with friends. Lovely grounds and waiting staff but we should have got the vibes when we were assured the fish was red mullet, even after a check to the kitchen, and was later informed it was in fact grey mullet. The white wine we ordered was not chilled, had to be put in the freezer and eventually turned up with the main course when we had hoped to be drinking the red. The two steaks ordered were so full of gristle that they were inedible. The replacements were better but nothing special. Served on a mess of mushrooms that was cooked so long beforehand that they were reduced to a slush and with the sole a compliment of 5 moderately sized chips. I've has better steak in a pub for a fiver. This table d'hôte meal, with one bottle of wine and a pre-dinner drink for four was £200!! I have eat here several times before but never again!

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then
