Masons Arms in Oxford

A traditional pub, few of the CAMRA pubs left in the area. Reasonable selection and some very good traditional real ale served. The usual range of wine, spirits and cider. A rare treat with locals.

Genuine and authentic English pub experience for some tourists from Canada. Very tidy with a lovely outdoor patio and garden. Friendly staff and clientele who were welcoming and courteous. It’s easy to see why it’s received so many accolades.

A CAMRA pub with a good selection and some very good traditional real ale as well as the usual range of wine, spirits and cider that you would expect from a traditional pub. Small and cosy inside that has kept its original features, with room outside at the back of the pub to sit in the shade on a hot day. Tucked down a narrow lane with a car park that can accommodate half a dozen cars, though mostly visited by freindly locals that walk.

This pub is a rare find as it sells excellent draught beers and has a good selection of traditional games to play. It has 2 darts boards, Bar Billiards and Aunt Sally. Aunt Sally is a traditional game in Oxfordshire, and involves throwing chunky sticks at 'Aunt Sally's' head. It's a great game for young and old alike. I really like that there isn't the smell of old chips and food in the pub. A rare treat.

Two dislocated Australians wandering backstreets of Headington on a bleak Tuesday afternoon in late Spring, just exploring where footpaths and back alleys took us, on our first visit to Oxford in 40 years. Came across the Masons Arm by accident. Wandered around for another hour and returned at 5.00pm opening time. Glad we did. Classic small independent corner pub that survives on loyal local patronage, superb quality and huge choice of interesting beers, served by the friendly publican himself. No food. No rabble. Great atmosphere. Read the website. Read the reviews. It’s all there. No wonder it has been rated Oxford’s best pub again and again over the past 20 years.

Why aren’t you ever open?? Your pub has an excellent reputation - big enough to twice get me to walk the three and a half miles from Oxford Station. But, both times, you were closed when I arrived! Today, I thought … Saturday lunchtime.. it’s got to be open. But no - everything was locked up. And it looked sooo inviting! Maybe one day…

Brilliant night great company landlord one of the best beer best in Oxford

Beautiful setting with helpful friendly staff. The food however was disappointing. Mussels were bland and lobster tough. Important to note that they charge £5 for a soda water and cordial lime, which in my opinion is daylight robbery or at best a joke especially when beer is cheaper. Hardly encouraging drivers to avoid drinking alcohol.

Excellent old fashioned pub, really good ales on tap. Friendly landlord and service with a smile. A locals pub that is really friendly to all that enter. The outside space is roomy and well kept. If you like good ales, definitely worth a visit or two

Fantastic local pub within the heàrt of Quarry area. Has a range of seating inside and out and particularly fun for beer festivals in summer.

This pub wins CAMRA City Pub of The Year time and time again. That's no accident as the beer in here is clearly a labour of love. Great and regularly changing range but above all, superbly kept and priced beers. Added to that the Masons has a big and lovely garden, a proper friendly local vibe, but it always comes back to the superb beer for me. Also runs brilliant comedy nights, a chaotic and funny quiz on Saturdays, a superb annual beer festival in early September and shows any big sports events.

It's a little tiny. Staff really friendly. There is open space at back for sunny days. They rent a big room for event.. .

Preguntó a la señora detrás de la barra por un pequeño vino. Sin dar opciones disponibles, la señora sirvió lo que parecía un medio, por lo que mi OH preguntó y dijo: "no hacemos pequeñas, solo medianas o grandes". ’ Hmmmm . . Buena esa. ¿Por qué no decir cuándo el cliente pregunta. En cambio, ha perdido nuestra futura costumbre por básicamente cobrarnos por algo que no pedimos. Lo que me hizo reír fue que el vaso tenía marcas en las 3 medidas de vino: no me habría dolido decir "normalmente no hago esto, pero puedo cobrarle xx peniques menos de 175 ml, ¿está bien?" Deseaba tener 125 ml para poder tener otros 125 ml en otro pub. (Lo que lo mantendría por debajo del límite legal si elige conducir). Este pub se enorgullece de ser un verdadero pub de cerveza, por lo que puedo entender que solo se ofrece un vino blanco o tinto, pero nuevamente habría sido bueno saber qué estaba abierto actualmente, deberíamos haber preguntado. No hay cervezas oscuras en oferta hoy. Mesas limpias, buen ambiente.

Attended my first ever comedy evening at the Mason's Arms. Great venue and a bawdy, loud and fun evening! Will definitely go again. Not for those easily offended, but for the rest of us... Go for it!

Proper old school boozer on the outskirts of Oxford. Good luck finding it, it's a local pub for locals only. Straight out of the 80s (never updated - and why would it be), its a throwback that reminds a little of a student union bar - but much cleaner of course. A fair selection of ales (tiny tasters requests are not met with much enthusiasm but reluctantly minimally granted), but a quite poor selection of lagers. Has a sports screen in both parts so can catch the football, if it's on the right channels - they have SKY SPORTS for sure.

Apart from the good beer, the pub gave every impression of being a true local with plenty of chat, teams etc.

Siempre celebre un festival de la cerveza en septiembre, donde dedican el edificio trasero a diferentes cervezas y sidras, y el jardín siempre está lleno. Hay un asado de cerdo, una carpa si el clima empeora y actividades para niños. El resto del tiempo puede disfrutar del edificio principal del pub, que está increíblemente bien conservado, ¡es como retroceder en el tiempo, de una buena manera! Hay una prueba de conocimiento general los sábados

Decent friendly pub that serves a wide variety of real ales. There is a pub quiz on a Saturday evening and there is a darts board too. At the rear of the pub is a decent sized garden that hosts CAMRA events during summer.

Great beer, huge beer garden. The pub itself is rather cliquey and seems to be mostly composed of regulars and other people have been drinking there years. Most are on first name terms with the bar staff. The decor is definitely old school. The beers are always excellent. Its certainly one of the best pints in Headington, easily the best of the three pubs in the Quarry area. It seems to be always busy, its not generally the place for a quiet pint.

By far the best pub in Oxfordshire! They don't serve food but do have pub snacks (peanuts, crisps, etc.) The Beer Garden is large, the regulars are friendly. I can not say enough about The Masons Arms!

One of the best pubs in oxford. They keep their beer well and it’s cheap compared to city centre. Would go there more often but buses don’t go from my house to there without having to travel to city centre first
