Me and my family have been coming here for donkeys years and its always served top tier food! The curries are delicious and theres a great unique atmosphere. The last few times I’ve visited I have been served by the same waiter - Mahesh. He’s got a great attitude, works hard and each time he’s served us he’s been really friendly and has recommended certain dishes for us. A stand out member of your already hard working team.

Absolutely delicious meal at Paddy’s. Visiting with family (4 of us), for an early Sunday evening supper, we anrrived after Tiger’s match. Only 10 mins drive from Welford Road stadium, plenty of street parking (3 cars as heading off in 3 diff directions!). Booked meal for 545pm but arrived at 520pm… not a problem. Sat on a large oblong table for 4 of us but very comfortable. Staff were very attentive and helpful with the extensive menu. Didn’t have a starter except for a couple of gorgeous crispy plain poppadoms each with sauces/pickles…Devine. We had been asked about how spicy we wanted our curries on a 1-10 scale. I asked for a 5 and found mine (chicken Rajhastani Tadka) a bit fiery, rather than too hot. But I tried my son’s lamb madras (6-7), it was hotter but absolutely delicious ,as was my husband’s chicken Tawa (5-6)and the other dish, chicken jalrezi (5-6). All came with pilau rice and either a plain or garlic naan. There was no problem when we requested that no nuts were included in any of the meal as one of my sons has a serious allergy to them. Good choice of alcohol free beers. Very good value at £110 inc drinks. Fantastic, swift, efficient service. Only negative would be to say that the carpet in corridor could do with a jolly good clean. Ladies loos were ok (passable) but I think men’s apparently were not very clean at all.

Best Indian meal I have had in a long time, traveled over from Nottingham,as had heard great things about this place, not disappointed.Although it was packed out on the Saturday night, service was prompt, you probably have to have an idea of what you want,as there are 170 dishes to choose from, the waiters are excellent and will guide you through and suggest the strengths of the curries. It was my first visit but will definitely go back, highly recommended, and remarkably not as expensive as those in Nottingham.

Ok so walked in on a first visit to the pub..Came all the way from london... on the left side of the pub is full seating for non asian looking people and on the right side room looked like full of asian looking people..I was thinking ‘ what the hells going on here’ talk about about segregating community’s.. how awful. Food and service was ok i must say. Wont be coming back here though purely for one reason. Judge for your self.

I would first like to start off by saying we booked a table for 2 and we were seated upstairs. All I can say is that the condition of the table and chairs were appalling and had to change my chair twice to get a comfort chair as the springs were digging into me.As for the food the papadoms were ok but the mango chutney was tasteless. Now for the main my husband ordered a Pili Pili chicken, all I can say I’ve never seen so much oil in a plate with the chicken swimming in it.I ordered a chicken curry dish which was ok not the best. Well for the salad I can’t say much really if you love onions so much then you are in your element because that was your lot for the salad with 2 pieces of cucumber and a little lettuce be sure to get onions covered in your salad. All I can say is I’m very disappointed with this restaurant can’t say much for the alcohol too my husband was disgusted in the draft beer. Bottled beer was warm not chilled. All I can say is Good Luck. Will not be going back again.

Ate here a couple of years back and was quite impressed but not so keen in how cramped it was and felt hurried to eat meal quickly.Having wanted to go back for a while so when I found out they did Take Aways I was quite excited and raved about it to family .All I can say was that i was embarrassed !! Not what I expected-at all ! Our chicken tikka masalas were smothered in a thin watery sauce which tasted just ok but didn’t look appetising at all due to consistency and although chicken was plentiful it was very very tough .The Nan and fish jalfrezi and chicken tikka starter were very good so to were the papadums and the chicken pokhara. The Bombay potatoes ( I’m sure were tin potatoes) were horrid and all I can say about the lamb samosas were they were utterly discussing everyone took one bite and said how bad they were (Full of grease and a terrible smell )! In all a meal that cost nearly £80 for 5 off us which was very very disappointing. Won’t be going back !!!!!

I ordered a medium curry specifically stating that I don't want it spicy as I was sharing with family. The food came extremely hot and it was burning my mouth. I requested yogurt which they gave for free however they did not offer to cook another curry or even apologise. The curry was too hot to eat even with yogurt. I always eat Indian food on a regular basis and eat spicy food however this curry was a vindaloo at the very least. The starter which was a mix grill was ok however I would never go back again after the service.

Reservation was made, we arrived early but were seated. Not the best table as we were next to Kitchen door alas. I was impressed by the service by the waiters, polite, friendly and customer focused. Myself and my partner called in for an early doors meal as we were in the area and it did not disappoint. I already knew about the excellent reputation of the food, but had never got round to eating here. The meats were tender, with just the right amount of spice and the thinner Nan breads are a good accompaniment to the main coarse without leaving you podged out on bread. Will definitely return.

Having seen mixed reviews and not been able to get in previously, my recommendation to a family party of 6 was apprehensive. It’s a scruffy building on the outside and a bit spit and sawdust inside. Cutlery and crockery are the ultimate in “authenticity” being extremely basic. HOWEVER the service was excellent- Raj was attentive and responsive and engaged with our needs for mild medium and medium/hot. He made suggestions and offered variations on our ideas. All said and done...the food was AWESOME. Starters ( platter ) were super, so fresh and crisp having clearly just been prepared. Chinese paneer deserves a special recommendation. Mains were delicious varied in flavour and interestingly presented. Fish dish was fresh succulent and so tasty.

Ordered £35 worth of food after coming home from an operation at the hospital having stayed there overnight. Had takeaway here before and was good. On this occasion having been eagerly awaiting to eat, the food was abysmal... The butter chicken gravy was water thin and the rogan Josh was completely tasteless and had nothing rogan Josh about it. Even more disappointing I ordered large portions of both. Compete rip off and terrible experience which will not happen again. Customer lost and will not be returning. Both the lamb and chicken dishes ended up in the bin with over half remaining.... The only suitable place for it without exaggeration. Rang to inform the restaurant of my displeasure and didn't receive a suitable solution.... Just a weak apology. Do NOT order takeaway here. You've been warned!

In a city full of Asian restaurants Martens Inn is worth finding. We were shown to our booked table staightaway and the service was quick, friendly and unobtrusive. Poppadoms and four varied dips to share between the four of us. The menu is varied but we kept it simple and each chose a different curry with tender, generously sized chicken, or lean lamb. There was salad and Naan bread to share and a dish of perfectly cooked rice each. The Mongoose beer was an ideal accompaniment. Other diner's noise level was not too high for conversation and the prices were very reasonable. Decor was still that of a plainly furnished pub. It is the genuine Indian food that you go for. Use your SatNav and go early to find street parking. .

Food was pretty great, tasty and portions large. Good value for money. Although out of the 8 white wines they were out of stock of 5 of them. We had booked ahead for 5.30pm for 7 adults and two children but on arrival they had no high chairs, they also say us next to two couples (probably wanting a quiet romantic meal), not great for them but they didn't seem to mind. The Chinese chilli chicken was delicious and so too were the lamb dishes. The fish was nice but you could tell it was frozen and the onion bhajhi s were greasy. All in all a value for money place, where adults and children can share the bish bash ambience. If the owners were to spend a little, they could make it far more spacious, modern and relaxing, by knocking down a wall or two and revamping the toilets. Why do these places have such basic toilets!

I have eaten here on a few occasions and the food has always been very very good. Whatever you order is top notch! They always say the way to tell if an Indian restaurant is good is to see if Indians eat there? Well say no more, yes they absolutely so, but so do umpteen other nationalities and that's not surprising because as I say, the food never disappoints. The staff are polite and efficient and the place although clean, does have that "spit n sawdust" feel about it.One word of advice is the portions are very big, so be cautious when ordering starters. I found most starters are ideal for 2 to share.A good selection of drinks available and the service at the table is very efficient.Bollywood film showing on the screen and that familiar Indian food aroma in the background. What more could you ask for?Highly recommended, but suggest you book in advance because although it's a sizeable establishment, it does fill up very quickly.

I am the organiser of a group of ten middle-aged Leicester professionals - all blokes! - who have met up for an Indian meal in a range of authentic Indian restaurants in the City for over five years. The 'Curry Chums' comprise five white British and five British Asians. We regularly return to Martin's Pub Restaurant because the environment is so congenial and the welcome is so friendly. Tucked away down a side street of Catherine Street, is always busy so on certain nights it is wise to book! The menu is extensive, catering for our three vegetarians as well as the seven carnivores ! Individual dishes are substantial and always well cooked. The waiters are attentive and respond quickly to request for more naan breads or drinks.Last night the eight chums present had two mixed meat and one vegetarian sizzler as starters followed by six main dishes with naan breads and rice. Including a drink e from the bar to start the evening off and a fiver or so as a tip, we each paid a modest £14 each.Three hours of delightful fellowship in warm and congenial surroundings - spoilt only by Spurs beating Leicester in the FA Cup replay on theTV !

Having been a customer of The Marten for many years I tend to get withdrawal symptoms if the visits are too infrequent, I've always found the food excellent with only the odd exception which can be understood if you have cooked BIR curries, the popularity of the place makes the highest standards of flavour and consistency very difficult to maintain but for me with it's atmosphere and ambience it's a DIAMOND of an establishment. The only thing I've never understood is where Paddy got his name from!

Went to Martins for the first time last week and was very impressed with the food and service. The pub does have this 'old man pub' smell and is bit outdated with way too many pictures on the walls!! But the food is delicious and portions big. The menu is quite big as well so there are plenty of choices even for vegetarians. I had a chicken Tikka masala curry, which was one of the best ones ive had! And the best thing is that the curries come with a naan and rice! The service was quick and waiters are always looking out for anyone that needs them (compared to other restaurants where it takes half an hour to get the attention of a waiter!!!) So I will definitely be returning soon!!! :-)

A group of 6 of us ate at Paddys Marten Inn last night (Saturday). I've not dined there for over a year. Wow! What a fantastic meal. I just love the Chinese element to dishes like the Chinese chicken and the Chinese modo's. The salt n pepper fish was great. The lamb on the bone remains a very special special. I also love the keema naans. All in all every dish was fab, and we've barely touched on the huge menu.We concluded it was probably our best curry experience ever. Yes ever! That is rich praise but well deserved. We must make the trip more often. For 6 of us with drinks, poppa Dom, starters, mains, rice and naans the bill came to £132. Fantastic value and the best food ever!!! Try it yourself, you might be blown away!

Used to visit here quite often however our past few visits have led us to never visiting here again! The food was oily and tasteless. The chutneys that come with the poppadoms are watered down... CHEAP!!

Just returned from my birthday meal with hubby and youngest son. Came here several years ago, not impressed but heard good things lately so thought we would give it a chance. Seriously disappointed. Grubby, dated pub which I would happily ignore if it offered good food. It didn't. Poppadom and pickles fine...can't go wrong with those. Starters ok. Not especially tasty but left a hot aftertaste. Main course...awful. king prawn kashmiri incredibly salty and oily. Garlic rice bland but greasy. Nan ok....again,how wrong can you go? Biryani x 2 watery and tasteless. Cost £60+ Verdict...never again. Too many restaurants offer better food for the same price or less with better surroundings, decent crockery, cutlery, tables etc.

I have visited this place number of occasion and it has never let me down. Most of the visits have been with my fellow City fans. This visit was with my family. Actually my son comes here more often with his mates than with me now. This time I let him make the selections and all the items were excellent. For starters Crispy Chilli Aubergine is a must for anybody whether you hate or love Aubergine. Other starters we tried were excellent as well – Grilled Tandoori Prawns, Kathlawadi Fish and Mixed combo sizzler. For mains we selected Lamb Rogan Josh (excellent taste) and Chicken Machoosi (was ok). It is worth eating with Tandoori Roti (wholemeal). The place has good choice of beers. The service and atmosphere was good. For décor the place was full of Bollywood pictures (old and new) in Black and White – it gives good Indian authentic touch. The food is served with steel plates and cutleries. The place serves Gujarati and North Indian dishes with added touch of East African. The place is recommended but you must book in advance if you plan to visit as since Jamie Oliver has visited the place it has become more popular esp with non-indians. Don't take my word! If you want to try any authentic Indian eateries in Leicester than this should be on your list and Crispy Chilli Aubergine is a must.

Paddy's Marten Inn Bar…is the Name !...Anyone trying to set-up on the outskirts of Leicester’s Golden Mile, must be brave but this converted pub into a bistro(self-labelled), is following the simple rule to stand out from the crowd, both outside & in So it is up to it’s awards ?You geta feel for what'sinside on the outside of’ Paddy's Marten Inn Bar’, a rough’n’ready pub décor infused with a young Asian and local regulars and Bollywood pictures aplenty..of course finished off with the ubiquitous celebrity-chef poster with cheap seats’n’ sofa. Cosy with much investmentNevertheless, there are plenty of staff to seat you round. You shouldn’t be surprised with the metal plates, this is local indian food country, nor for the 45 mins waiting time stated on the menu. We found this to be spot on for the mains, with starters taking 15 mins..escotred with the cheapest of metal cutlery more at home in a hamper Speaking of Starters, we had a perplexing experience. The vegetable samosa was the Best we have tasted in memory, perfect thing pastry without ‘potato padding’ or added salt, and that goes wth the lamb option.. yet...we didn’t have a choice of something fulfilling something beyond chips, as the budget would have grown by £6-£12, far higher than other Indian eateries. Nevertheless, for taste, accompanying salad repeated the trick, perfectly fresh lettuce & onion. Unfortunately the mushroom rice couldn’t join in the fun, the rice just above dull and the mushroom was far too salty when we could find some within the grains. The curries fared much better the chicken very tasty in both dishes and the sag (spinach)chicken not bad either...outstanding would push it, but that shouldn’t deter you. but be warned, all curries are served with nan, rice & salad with flexibility. The pricing offers good value for money but no alternative for those wishing otherwiseThe price was very good and we look forward to a repeat visit...though maybe at quietest times of the week, and we’re still wondering where the sag bhajee we ordered had got to…

The food in this place is absolutely amazing. Can not fault it at all. We asked for Jeera wings which actually tasted proper rather then any gimmick. For mains we had chicken machoosi which was awesome. Very good value for money. Only down side it's a small place so it's a little cramped however the food makes it worthwhile.

Ordered a takeaway, although have eaten in as well in the past. Food was of a good standard and the service was good too. Masala Mogo was nice and soft and dishes were at the spice level that we asked for. Would recommend and go again. Only wished they delivered!

I visited Martin Pub with my daughter last Sunday as we decided to go for a curry instead of cooking Sunday dinner. She rang and booked the table for 5.30pm.we are regulars, eating on average once a month if not more ofte,.for several years now.Usually the staff are courteous, friendly and aim to please, the food good and its always busy,so we were looking forward to eating, when we arrived and got seated at our usual table. We waited a good 20 minutes for the main meal if not a little longer.I ordered the traditional lamb curry just for a change, and it had been recommended by a good friend that 'it was proper', I even spoke to one of the managers explaining what I wanted. Our kid ordered the prawn tikka masala, usually she would have a chicken one but she also wanted a change from what she would normally have. The food came in due course so we were expecting it to be fresh,'as standard',but let me get straight to the point 'What a disappointment! The curry looked like pieces of lamb in brown water nothing like a traditional lamb curry!I asked my daughter to try it as.she had lamb curry here before and she said "naw mum thats disgusting, theyre having a laugh!I spoke to the guy who took the order and he took it away saying that he thought it was okay and its no different to how they usually serve it!He offered to make the curry thicker??But I declined and opted for the lamb chops as I thought I carnt go wrong I have had them before, and theyr're usually decent. He said 15-20 mins so again I waited in anticipation having ate all my mushroom rice and garlic nan and salad! My daughters tikka masala however had the consistency of thick oats porridge and looked like orange porridge to be fair.Disappointing is a understatement!!So when the bill came,I went to the bar and had a discreet word with the manager complaining of the poor standard in the food,Can you believe he just looked at me and said "Ok" and carried on doing what he was doing.I paid the bill £27 and went back to our table. My daughter was fuming, shouted at me for even paying the bill and proceeded to call the other manager who we complained to about the lamb curry.Well he wanted to argue saying that he thought the food was alright when clearly it was not so it became obvious that things were going nowhere,so after a few heated words we left vowing not to return again, which is a shame as.we have spent many a birthday, special celebration and night out in this pub, over the years not to mention recommending it others. However all was not lost,as we decided to go to Heavenly Dessert on London Road and were delighted with the desserts and service both of which were 5 star,so made up for the poor service and terrible food earlier at Mart

this was a last minute choice, having read the reviews for several establishments in Leicesterwe visited this one. A cracking restaurant that I would never have found if not for the reviews. we found the establishment to be a comfortable family friendly, the food was very tasty and much better that the run of the mill high street restaurants. I normally travel to Walsall from Lutterworth for my Indian meals but I can now return to this establishment . a bostin meal.

Went to pub a couple of nights ago. Was expecting great food after reading reviews on this site. Very strange as pub is in the middle of nowhere, in the city. You drive past an industrial estate, then there are tons of cars parked along the road, and there you are. Pub is odd as it looks like an old fashioned boozer, the bar is all the same, but the furniture is definitely curry house circa 1970. The walls are covered in black and white pictures of, presumably, famous indian singers and actors, and the large screen tv's were all blaring out indian music with videos. There were only a few tables occupied when we went in, but it obviously gets busy as we were asked if we had booked, and it did start to fill up as our meals arrived. Service was nice, smart, smiley waiters and very pleasant manager. Menu was pretty standard. So the food. We waited nearly 30 minutes for our starters, crispy cauliflower, which was a bit different and nice, and bog standard kebab and tikka mixture, then the mains came a bit quicker. We had opted for an on the bone makati curry and a lamb sag, with side orders of a bean and a potato and aubergine curry, with a raita. The curry were all ok, the two veg ones tasted exactly the same, and the two main course ones were just completely average. Nothing fresh about them, nothing different. Not what we were expecting. So disappointed. It came to £60 with 3 beers and a glass of wine, so not too expensive for the amount of food we had. By the time we left the place was buzzing, mainly I would say with local groups of people, there were a couple of big family parties in having a great time. So. A nice place to go if the atmosphere is what you are after, but if you want great indian food sorry not the best place to go.

Visited the Martin inn several occasions now and it is without doubt one of the best Indian restaurants in terms of food in Leicester. Albeit the decor is not first class or contemporary, but this is not what the place is about. if you want a great curry, value for money and a warm atmosphere with great attentive service then the Martin inn is the place for you. Visit and judge for yourself, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I've been visiting this place for a number of years.....the curry is always of a good standard ( I'm very particular about my Indian food) it's authentic Gujarati / North Indian food with a hint of East African influence!Ever since being featured on Jammie Oliver's programme this place is packed every night of the week, which is great for the owners but, has lost some it's charm as a result. It's a great place to go with a few friends to enjoy the good food and lively Indian club type atmosphere......enjoy!
