The Sunday Roast dinner is 10/10, honestly so yum couldn’t recommend more and massive portions for the price. Have to try!

Wow - a quite different pub from the one I went in a few years ago. The only similarity is the name. Think The William the Fourth in North Laine. Good selection of IPAs, friendly service, and pretty lively for about three o'clock on a Friday afternoon. Excellent beer garden with covered bits for when it's lashing down. Which it was.

Great service, lovely roast dinner but told bar staff my son didn't eat veg apart from potatoes and could he just have beef, Yorkshire and potatoes, paid £18 and expected he would have an extra Yorkshire and potatoes but no had nothing extra at all, wasn't happy paying full price for half a plate of food

WHAT A ROAST! First visit for a family roast on a Sunday. I will certainly return. The roast lamb was amazing 👏 so was the roast pork and crackling. The veg was cooked beautifully with all the trimmings. Giant Yorkshire puddings were delicious 😋 and the gravey, too. Well done to the chefs amazing food at a fair price. Thank you 😊 I would say this is probably the best roast I have ever had!

Quite a nice pub. When we visited on a Sunday afternoon and patiently waited to be served a local walked up to the bar, said nothing, and was served before we were. We weren't impressed with that, hence four stars and not five.

i left the place because the waitres are discusting, he put me a drink and use his fingers to put lemon on it, then i saw him, picking dirty glasses, going back to the bar and serve more drinks.

I love this pub. Literally come everyday and have never had a issue with the staff (the short beautiful girl and ginger beard guy particularly). Pieces are brilliant and I love the managers. Would highly recommend. Still need to try the roast but it looks stunning.

Me and my boyfriend turned up last night to have a cute date night, after working really hard for a good few weeks. We were looking forward to the Thursday £30 special offer of steak and a bottle of red. We had heard good things from friends in the past, however we turned up and the young man behind the bar was extremely rude. We came in and asked about the deal and all we got was a blunt 'no' and 'kitchens closed'. We were a little confused as the sign outside the pub had the deal written on it so we could only assume the deal was still relevant. When we asked the bar man said 'yeah don't think we've ever done that deal mate'. We were quite taken back by his rudeness and bluntness, explaining the sign outside still displayed the deal. He walked off to sort out some glasses half way through the conversation so we were just left standing there in confusion at his rudeness. We we were not given any form of customer service, no apology or smile. I completely understand mistakes happen and people have bad days but there was no need for his attitude and it did put a dampner on our date night. The actual pub looked nice and having never been, I would have stayed for a drink as we had walked all the way there, but after the rude staff member I didn't feel welcomed or comfortable in the circumstances. I don't leave bad reviews ever, but I was hugely disappointed and I feel it is important I share my experience. If I ran a pub, I'd want my staff to be friendly and approachable. As well as signs and offers to be up to date as the sign was very misleading. I won't be returning.

Great pub if you're looking for somewhere a little cheaper as it's not in Central Brighton. It's only a 10 minute walk from there or a very quick bus ride. The drinks are all very reasonably priced and there are deals for students if you bring student ID with you. The inside space has well-spaced out tables and a pool table too. The garden area is quite big and some tables have heaters above them. I always recommend this place for pre-drinks but it's also a lovely sociable pub if you want a chill night out with friends.

Great place. Really well run. A mixture of locals and students. We had the Sunday roast in the garden. Food was excellent and I loved the fact that children and dogs were not just allowed, but welcomed.

Very accommodating with my children whilst I DJd for them at their charity event. Beautiful space that attracts lovely, positive customers. Great garden space and the food is lovely. I highly recommend.

The MarthaGunn is one of the only pubs in Brighton where you can get a roast dinner that taste just like your mum‘s made it, The choice of two public bars in the garden the staff are friendly the beer is cold and situated on the upper Lewis Road this pub is a convenient stop off on a walk into town or after a trip to shabitat

Good place, which typically also has a dj set at night. There is a lot of space outdoors and a pool table indoors, even if seating can be limited at nights.

Great local. Watched the Euro final and the bar service was non stop and as attentive as they could be! Lovely outdoors area and interior with great polish food and veggie/vegan options! Not a huge selection of lagers but therefore a very friendly, spacious family friendly pub!

This is the worst put I have been in my entire life

Love this place!! Except for the usual bar offering, they have a wicked kitchen (Sunday roasts only apparently, now during Covid times - but it operates most days during more "normal" times). Well decorated, with a lovely old piano in the main seating area, and additional, almost separate space with a pool table, there's a large beer garden at the back - if you're lucky, you'll score one of the booths with heaters installed. They used to have live music and quiz nights there as well, can't wait for current restrictions to be lifted and allow all the fun stuff to commence again :)

Good outdoor space but very under staffed

They do student deals, got a nice beer garden but the staff were not only slow, but they were also rude to us after we waited around half an hour to pay. We will not be coming here again. gg

Absolutely delicious roast beef and trimmings. Great service, great venue and good selection of drinks. The beef was one of the best quality I've had in a long time and the gravy went with it really well. Would highly recommend.

The waiter told me he didn’t care what I was saying when I explained that my friends were waiting inside and he told me he couldn’t care less what I was saying. There is no reason to be rude he could just explain that its feel instead of patronising clients in that way.

Loved their Sunday roast. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Have recommended it to a few people for Sunday roast.

We prebooked for Sunday lunch several weeks ago. We arrived in good time and were shown to our table. Unfortunately, we waited 1 hour 15 mins for three roasts due to two staff not turning up. Chap behind bar apologetic and we were given free drinks . The food was worth the wait though. Delicious. Good choice of veg, plenty of gravy and I chose the pulled pork. Unusual but yummy. Homemade yorkies. Large portion.

Food and drink are nice, but depending on the time there's only 1 person for the whole pub and you might have to wait over 30 minutes for some cheesy chips.

Great family pub, can’t fault it really. Decent decor and atmosphere, food and drinks well priced. Only tried the roast dinners but they were of a very good standard. This has become our local and regular haunt of ours! Inside and outside of the pub is nice. As stayed in other reviews it really is a hidden gem.

The roast is one of the best i've ever had, the staff who run it are extremely friendly and add to the whole experience. I love the vibe, very relaxing and makes you feel like you fit right in. Recommend to everyone.

Had never been here before,a hidden gem! Tastefully decorated with a great outdoor space . Friendly barstaff, student discounts and a very friendly atmosphere. Live music most weekends and appetising food menu. Pay the Martha a visit.

Being a visitor to Brighton was rather disappointed with the meal... Wait for the meal was a hour way too long., the meal was ordered when the booking was made the previous day.. So very dark could, nt see what was on the plate, a well used T lite was not the answer

Great Pub with a really well thought out garden. This pub is a gem in the back streets of Brighton.

After way too long, I finally got to taste Martha Gunns Sunday roast and let me tell you the nut roast was amazing, with lots of really cooked veggies including cheesy leeks and the great roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. It is by far the best roast I've ever had! My friend had the lamb shank, chicken and pork and they look fab as well. Would highly recommend!!!!

I honestly can't recommend this pub enough, it truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Service is amazing, food is divine (the Sunday roast - WOW) and the vibe is just right. Get yourselves down here and bask in the radiant sun of the Martha Gunn.

I've been to the Martha Gunn several time and it never let me down! Food is amazing and the atmosphere too! The manager Tiago is excellent and he's wife making a such good food!! Worth it the visit!

I live across the road from the Martha Gun and I’m either in here for a few drinks after work or a Sunday roast. The roasts are amazing, big portions and amazing flavours. One of the best roasts in Brighton! The pub is very spacious and peaceful which is great if you want a quite roast with family or in a couple. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, I’ve NEVER had a bad word to say about the whole establishment. 👍🏻🍻

Came here for a Sunday roast and as always the roast was amazing.. The one and only member of staff on shift that day was however a let down. I ordered two bloody Mary’s and was told “I have the ingredients but it’s just me on the bar so no”. The pub itself was very quiet, myself and my friends and a few couples outside, so I struggled understanding why two bloody Mary’s were so difficult to make. The roasts took up to 45 minutes to be served but they are very delicious. I used to be a regular at this pub but since moving away this was my first revisit in two years and it’s let itself go...

Went for a roast. The bar lady (Emily, she said her name was) was fantastic but the roast took a very long time to come and wasn’t great quality. They’ve really let themselves down.

Haven't tried the food yet, however the atmosphere is just right, very friendly and welcoming, great selection of Ale and great beer garden. Highly recommended and definitely will be back for food too
