Went for a Birthday meet up. Rude arrogant staff who are more interested in flirting with coke heads at the bar. Used to be a good place to go. Try the druids up the road. Same drinks available and the pool table isn't covered in Beer.

I came here for my birthday on September 6th with my boyfriend. The atmosphere is dead. The only people that go in here are either on drugs, creepy or super antisocial. The staff were drunk whilst working. And as a bartender myself, it was just awful. I wouldn't waste your time. Garbage pub.

Love the aesthetics and atmosphere of the place , feels very comfy. Love the drink deals aswell. The bar staff are lovely , one of them I know that serves me they’re so cool so kind and is rlly good with costumer service. Seems like a lovely place to work. Great pub apart from the bouncers. I go here every week but suddenly I need ID on pride night. Zero loyalty, only interested in a few easy £££

Overrated. Genuinely not sure why it's referred to as an alternative pub. Every time I've been in the music has been distinctly lacking, really bland. Pretty sure the only reason is because of the massive (& tacky) Cerebus above the bar. Wouldn't recommend. (EDIT - 2 years after first review: still terrible. By far the most disappointing alt' pub I have ever encountered)

Had a good laugh at there comedy club friendly evening really enjoyed it but for anyone with difficulty walking the stairs are not easy

Lovely pub met up for birthday, staff very nice. Didn't eat food so can't comment on that.out side seating which was nice.

Great local Brighton pub with rock'n'roll clientel and gothy-rock decor. Note the papier-mache three headed-hound-of-hell over the bar made by a friend of mine, the geat, late Mahni Dare. Friendly and inclusive. They also have a venue upstairs. I've seen some great stand-up comedy there.

Dive bar with a room upstairs for performances. I saw the comedy, lots of fun.

Saw 2 comedy gigs here last week, had me in stitches! The bar staff were very friendly and the locals were great.

Put money in the juke box. Ask the bar staff to turn up the music, they did. However was told that a DJ would start soon and got told "womp womp" by the bar staff for the money I lost for putting on the juke box. Could have been warned not to put money on the juke box or a nicer reaction.

One of the few few really unique places in Brighton in terms of pubs. I love the way people are sat at the bar and it's almost like one of the old style bars where you can actually talk to strangers. It sort of invites it

Had an amazing night out here. All the staff are lovely and wild locals were great for banter. Exactly what I like to see from a good Rock bar.

Had a really fun night in here whilst visiting Brighton, super quick service and got my rocks off on the alt-karaoke which was great fun. We need more pubs like this!

Comedy's great highly recommend

This is my favourite pub. Not just in Brighton but in general, everywhere. The atmosphere is on the whole very welcoming, the bar staff are all brilliant, friendly and beautiful, the landlady is always very kind but takes no nonsense and the security at the weekends are fair and responsible. It is a queer venue as well as a metal pub, and as a queer goth I feel very much at home, and safe. The jukebox is my only complaint - I’ve no idea what it thinks it’s doing, but I don’t like hearing 5 ABBA/George Michael songs back to back on Free Jukebox nights (Tuesday). Otherwise, it’s a unique little gem of a dive bar and I LOVE IT. Good Happy Hour deals and overall good value.

Good little dive style bar in Preston Circus. Questionable DJs at times but adds to the vaguely goth-metal atmosphere. Open nice and late on weekends, the typical lager selection just as you might expect so nothing fancy. Not sure if they have food or not but I wouldn't like to find out.

Awesome venue with an edge. Great music is always playing with nice metal and rock decor. The cocktails are splendid and also strong 🍻 The bartenders are a laugh too! Probably my favourite bar in Brighton!

Waited politely at the bar for ages while staff ignored me and served other people. It wasn't that busy at the bar and I only wanted a soft drink, so who knows why they did it. I have lots of friends who work in hospitality so I'm never rude to staff, I wasn't being demanding or obnoxious. Gave up and left which was disappointing as I was there for a friend's graduation.

Basically the only great metal/rock rub in Brighton. However, not just deathcore blasting all day: expect a rich tapesty of great music from all genres and no judgement aboute your own tunes on the jukebox. I live in Southwick but consider it my local. For all the old school Brightonians, now the Hob Goblin/Pav Tav/Gloucester etc. have all gone/changed, this is a singular refuge from the brutish realities of today. The staff, from management to bar to security, are, for my money, the solidest, friendliest, no-nonsense people around. If you find them not to your taste, I would suggest having a good look in the mirror. LGBTQIA+ friendly and you can bring your dog in. It's got a beer garden and has gigs and comedy. I go to read and have great chats with people. The prices are reasonable (rare for this time and place) If you're not sold, then I don't know what your buying but come down anyway

Have been here a few times for Comedy. They have really great entertainment on, often no more than £5! Super dog friendly! Has a pool table!

Watched a comedy act as part of the Brighton Fringe festival....service was friendly albeit a little overwhelmed by volume of customers, cute room upstairs where act was playing

Went and watched a Brighton Fringe show in their upstairs function room. Great space to fit over 50 people and good technical set up. Enjoyed their outside area as well.

The sort of pub you would nearly expect to find rough folk, last night was quite the contrary. Everyone was friendly and the music was great (energetic)

We went to The Comedy Experiment on Saturday afternoon. It was a free event. Absolutely brilliant time. 2 hours of really good comics. It is based in the room upstairs. I have been to quite a few comedy shows here (usually when The Fringe is taking place), I like coming here because its a great venue and I always find the staff really friendly. A great place 🤩

Really not happy. Discrimination against people with disabilities! My friend got discriminated against . because he has a problem with walking and has a limp they automatically assumed he was too drunk to come in. He explained his condition in a completely sober manor . But they were still really harsh and rude about it and the male bouncer seemed really dismissive about it. They then used the excuse that it was late but they still had 2 hours of being open. Really rude they don’t deserve your money. My friend had one pint and was completely sober I think the way they spoke to him was rude and out of order. Never going there again

This was a great discovery for me and my mates just wish we found it earlier, We wanted to find a good rock/metal bar in Brighton and we found it.

Fun little pub with great music and a good choice of pints

A proper rock and metal pub on the level, you cant miss the bright red frontage. Cerberus's three heads are mounted like a trophy above the bar. Brewdog ipa, dark star and some choice lagers and cider on the pumps. Made use of the venue room upstairs to present our show for two nights recently. Staff and manger were great, easy booking and we were well looked after. Projectors, soundsystem and air con all working fine. Loading bay right out front, couldn't be easier. 👍🍻

Good price for beer, friendly, welcoming. Sadly the toilet is very dirty

40yrs ago this was a cracking pub, sadly like so many these days it appears to be struggling. Last wednesday it was virtually empty, real ale was limited to one choice which was warm & lifeless, the barman was pleasant enoughwhen serving but with no interaction or personality. Trying to support pubs that are neither local or town centre is sadly becoming harder. A real shame!

seriously, I've not seen toilets like this in years. filthy with used hygiene products on the floor, mould growing round the taps and a film of dirt over everything. would've been cleaner to pee in an alley.

Great place! I'd affectionately call it a dive bar and I really liked it. Very friendly welcome from the dude behind the bar. Rock and metal was playing on the sound system. Beers I enjoyed included Dark Star Hophead and BrewDog Punk IPA. The toilets could do with a deep clean but after a couple of beers I didn't care. I shall return!
