Bar Valentino in Brighton and Hove

A fantastic 1920s style speakeasy cocktail bar located on the first floor. It's easy to miss - we found it by chance searching for a cocktail bar on Google Maps and still missed the entrance - it's the black door to the right of the tapas bar, and you need to ring the buzzer to enter. Once in, it's a great little spot with just a few tables, bar seating, and some seating on the balcony. The cocktails are fantastic and the bar staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely worth a visit for a cocktail or two.

Bar Valentino is a hidden gem in the centre of Brighton. Wonderful atmosphere and amazing staff. Mixologist Alex demonstrated excellent knowledge and was extremely helpful advising on various mixes. Will definitely be going back.

Great drinks and friendly service

Delightful little bar with a wonderful atmosphere added to by the subdued lighting, music and decor - and of course the two expert bar tenders who were gracious and attentive. An amazing array of cocktails flowed through their hands during our visit (not all to us I hasten to add!) - all served with style. We discovered this little gem by accident as we were directed upstairs by staff at the tapas bar below to wait for a table to become available. Needless to say, waiting was a pleasure! We chose from a little menu of their own cocktail creations including half a dozen mocktails but pretty much any mainstream cocktails could be yours for the asking.

Great drinks and bartenders. One of the better ones in Brighton

I was there yesterday for a nice cocktail. Ordered “dont mess with jim” . Taste was ok but cocktail was less than half glass and if you take the ice could be almost nothing. We didnt have time to ask why is that anyway. I would not recommend.

Oli and Luke were the highlights of this place. True gentleman mixologists with patience you can't believe. Great vibe and great drinks. Come here. Also tip. These guys work their butts off.

We popped in today as we haven't been in for a while, since Tommy left. We have been regular customers in the past and even held my 60th birthday party there in 2022. I was totally gobsmacked by the downhill decline in the customer service today. We watched a member of the bar team eat their deliveroo on the balcony, unprepared to move, even when paying customers come in who were obviously interested in having drinks on the balcony. When we had to go to the bar to ask for our bill, the bar team was too busy talking about the bar awards to notice we had been waiting to order cocktails, so instead we went in to pay. The bill was not given to us but the till was clearly showing £28 pound .. however we were charged an additional 10% on our bill which nobody told us about. I'm sorry to say unfortunately we will not be returning and not spending any more money in this venue.

I rarely post reviews unless i truly feel that the business and the customers deserve a genuine perspective. This cocktail bar was highly recommended by friends of mine. As a lover of cocktails and speak easies I was really keen to visit this place and after visiting some pretty impressive cocktail bars in Brighton such as The Golden Pineapple, Plotting Parlour etc my expectations were high considering this was said to be the Original cocktail bar in Brighton. The aesthetics were overall very fitting for a cocktail bar, cute, quaint warm lighting, chill music. HOWEVER the service was Ridiculous. I was greeted by 2 of the most miserable waiters I have ever met in my life. My friends told me they had been the same with them when they arrived. I had to prompt to have my order even though they insisted they do table service. My guess is they may have been understaffed this day. Understandable circumstances BUT the rudeness of the waiters and the patronising tone they took with not only myself but with my friends was shocking. Another customer was equally shocked by this and suggested there may have been discriminatory elements at play from the waiters. Must Mention -When ordering my drink i was told that the drinks were pre made. PRE MADE ? and no drinks could be made to order. This is almost unheard of for an authentic cocktail bar as most cocktail bars almost always offer the classics as a standard outside of the seasonal menu. Anyway my drink was mediocre to say the least. I tried different ones to compare: The Miss Rosa , The life saver, A spicy margarita variation and The yellow pepper one. I want to be honest. They were very bland. and quite watered down. 1 of my drinks came without the garnish. I had to go back and request the mint and lemon. They had run out. After a while we decided to leave, we cleared our tab. I sadly had 1 more drink coming, This drink took over an hour. I decided to cancel this as my friends could no longer wait and requested a refund. The refund went to a wrong bank account. They only offered cash refunds usually. I'll be honest , i was definitely shocked that a place with such great reviews could be like this. I really hope the waiters were not in-fact discriminatory and racist as other customers suggested because that would really be such a shame in a city such as Brighton where most businesses operate in a in an inclusive way towards customers. From my experience alone, i would definitely not recommend this place, at least in this moment in time. Definitely looked understaffed. There are way more authentic and enjoyable cocktail bars in this city. Sorry Bar Valentino, do better next time

Honestly, I’m not a big cocktail fan ordinarily, but we were recommended to come here and my wife and I loved it. Great drinks, served by really knowledgeable mixologists, in a great atmospheric setting. Will definitely be back when next in Brighton…..

Amazing cocktails. Went after a show at the theatre and was not disappointed. Knowledgeable staff who recommended excellent drinks based on taste including an experimental drink not yet on the menu. Really enjoyed an hour or so here and would highly recommend.

Had a pre dinner cocktail here and thoroughly enjoyed the view, ambience, service and more importantly the cocktails. The menu is a bit different and the cocktails are not watered down! Very tasty and well made.

Much improved than the bar Valentino you knew, punchier cocktail menu which is really tasty but will always go of list for you. Quality drinks and great staff nice and relaxed and they do bar snacks now too

Came here for the first time since lock down, love what they’ve done with the place! Love the new decor! Love the buzzer at the door! Love the table service!! From beginning to end we had an amazing time, a real experience. Staff were welcoming and friendly, we were given a brief walk through of their menu and told that they could do most classic cocktails. We weren’t sure what we wanted (it all looked so good) so after some friendly suggestions we ended up with an orchid and a paper plane, they were amazing. Will definitely be back.

Always excellent, bar staff really know their stuff. Nice vibe, and a good safe spot to watch the drunk people over the road. Gotta give a shoutout to that short guy with shoulder length curly hair. Our group always ask for the most awkward things (think 'I want a drink that reminds me of Paris just after sunset....but no wine, no fruit but lots of basil') and the guy always pulls through.

Absolutely amazing, whether you want a menu item, or an off menu bespoke speciality, have a chat with Will, Tommy or Reece. Fantastic guys, know their stuff better than anywhere else in Brighton! Lustiges Konzept wie bei allen Bars, wo man zuerst anklingeln muss, um dann extra reingelassen zu werden;) Danach geht's über eine enge Treppe in den ersten Stock wo man dann hoffentlich direkt an der Bar sitzt. So kann man die Cocktailmixerkunst bewundern 😍 Top! Komme gern wieder, um den restlichem Wahnsinn von Brighton zu entkommen 😉

Looking for the best Old Fashioned in town? Definitely swing by Bar Valentino. The bar is cozy, the drinks are amazing, the staff are what any bartender should aspire to. A perfect way to top off an evening.

I really enjoyed this venue. From the buzzer to get in, to the prime position for people watching on the balcony, I was delighted by the black and red theme of the decor. It put me in mind of a 1920s prohibition bar. Comfortable casual seating indoors and accessible outside at the push of a door. The mixologist felt quintessentially Brightonian and made us feel at ease. Accommodating and friendly, with good recommendations. I would share with out-of-towners for a showing off of our fabulous Brighton culture.

Used to be a decent cocktail bar but really not worth the visit anymore. Ordered two cocktails and it took 30 minutes to bring over one premixed in a bottle and the other one: no it wasn't an old fashioned - would have probably taken an hour for that given how slow the staff move. The menu is severely limited and bland compared to days gone by with an interior that has no cohesion or identity; may as well go to a Weatherspoons which is more interesting.

Best speakeasy in Brighton? I think so! Found this place just behind the Pavilion above a Tapas restaurant. It was delightful to find a quite place to enjoy impeccably crafted cocktails on a Saturday night away from the drunken madness of Brighton. You will get screened before getting in (as with any speakeasy) and if you make it through, you'll be warmly welcomed by the staff who are extremely knowledgeable in mixology. They're menu includes a very interesting range of unique cocktails with the danger being that you want to try them all. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of service offered. If you are into speakeasy vibes, definitely try this one out.

This is one of the hidden gems of Brighton - we were squeezed in and catered for in this stylish cocktail bar! The barman could not have been more helpful or polite! We loved the cocktails which were reasonably priced and tasted incredible. We can't wait to visit again!

They've had a refurbishment of late, and I'm editing to reflect this. Previously going in had this feeling; like if your uncle had a mid life crisis around 1996 and wanted to make the front room into a trendy wine bar. Now it's far more 1920s opulent boudoir, and as such is more intimate. Definitely an improvement. Great cocktails and great staff, this place manages to do so with out pretention and maintains a chilled out atmosphere that welcomes hispters and a forty something crowd in some sort of cocktail induced family hug. The balcony is super for people watching and chats a like. It's not as cheap as some cocktail places, but with cocktails this good, you get what you pay for.

Por mi parte, soy un idiota, por lo que el artista de cócteles (similar al artista de sándwiches en el metro) recomendó un estilo antiguo, pero con ron.Fue un placer, sin el asqueroso pesar de beber whisky y convertirme en mi padre.Amo a Valentino's, y volveré en cada primera cita futura hasta que finalmente lleve a mi futura ex esposa allí.Menos ValentiNo, más ValentinYes.

He estado aquí antes, pero han pasado unos 7 años. ¡Los cócteles que tomé fueron deliciosos, originales y tuve que contenerme para no pedirlos todos! El personal fue muy amable y muy atento ya que es servicio de mesa en este momento y todos se mantuvieron a una buena distancia. Nuestro camarero del Dorset nos había recomendado este lugar y hablaba muy bien de los cócteles y del bar. Era una puerta pequeña que se pasaba por alto fácilmente, tuvimos que usar un timbre y nos recibió una voz amigable y nos llamaron. El bar parecía de los 30 y se sentía especial, era pequeño e íntimo. Tomé un martini de estrella porno y mi compañero tomó un Viva la Bee, ambos fueron increíbles. El camarero fue amable y nos hizo sentir bienvenidos. También se las arregló para lidiar con un grupo ruidoso y grosero de 6 que llegaron exigiendo las bebidas más fuertes que pudieron obtener antes incluso de sentarse. Muy bien manejado y definitivamente volveremos. Gracias.

El interior de este bar es precioso y te hace sentir como si estuvieras en Moulin Rouge. También un pequeño balcón muy lindo y sería genial para una cita nocturna. Sin embargo, cuando intentamos avisar al camarero que respondió fue increíblemente grosero y claramente no quería que entremos, entramos de todos modos y cuando decidimos no pagar el cargo por servicio, se mostró bastante malhumorado. También mi 10. 50 martini estrella porno no sabía realmente a martini estrella porno. ¡Una pena porque con el servicio de atención al cliente adecuado esta barra sería 10/10!

Esta fue nuestra primera visita al Bar Valentios, fuimos a escuchar a Flossy Jones cantando jazz un domingo por la noche, qué ambiente encantador, Flossy fue increíble. Tiene Apprantley acaba de tener un relanzamiento y me encanta el aspecto. No podía beber mientras conducía, pero el barman (Harry) me preguntó qué tipo de sabores me gustaban y luego me preparó un fabuloso cóctel sin alcohol. Esperamos volver pronto, y esperamos volver a atrapar a Flossy.

Probably the best cocktail bar in Brighton. Bartenders take pleasure from making great looking drinks , everything is top notch. Venue is small and very cosy, can be packed on a Friday night (surprise surprise) .Entrance is not very obvious which makes this place feel even more special. Selection and quality of the served drinks is really great. I can only remember it was good fun.... :D

Best bar I've been to in Brighton. Even over the years of my trips to Brighton I've never felt so at home in a place. Thanks to Will who made us so welcome and some superb drinks. Expect the chance if a few celeb faces but dont let that put you off, this is a true great of a bar. Easy to miss if it's your first time there but worth the time once you have found it. Tip to find...aim for the tapas bar below ans look for a gold plaque to the side of it that's the stairs to get up to the bar. Also they stock Claytons CKT so that was an unexpected treat.

Brilliant bar to people watch from. Right by the Theatre Royal in Brighton. You can have a beer or cocktail and watch the world go by from the veranda. It’s a small space but if you get a seat it’s perfect.

£9 per cocktail & You're welcome to try and ask for a cocktail that's not on the menu. The bartenders are very professional. I had a wonderful Pisco Sour that reminded me of home. 10/10. Very nice staff. Very cozy bar. Music was a bit loud, but still makes for a lovely date spot as well. Wouldn't recommend for groups larger then 6. I'm definitely going back.

Excellent standard of cocktails. Friendly bar staff.£9.00 per cocktail but definitely worth the cost. (We had some terrible £8 pound guess the classics cocktail at a bar before) will be definitely coming back next time in town. Security could be a bit more friendly but apart from that excellent.

Almost as good as when Barry was here. It's like a special secret this bar, but we'll worth finding it, because once you've been you'll appreciate that it's quite hidden away. Cocktails are fab, make sure you don't have to drive anywhere because you'll want more than one.

Came in with friends for a cocktail. I had the great British summer cocktail, which was very refreshing, and you could tell with good quality ingredients. Lovely chatty staff. Nice decor. Quite pricey though.

Really good cocktails. The cocktail waiters know their stuff and there are a broad range on offer. The only downside is that it's small during the colder months. Summer they open the balcony which gives more room. Would recommend highly.

Left The Ivy and came here for a cocktail, got upstairs and there wasn’t enough room for us to sit, despite many people taking up room they didn’t need. Bar tenders wouldn’t meet our eye so we left, on the way out they shouted ‘see ya later!’ Needless to say we went back the The Ivy for some decent service and cocktails. I’d be ashamed of these staff if I were the owner.
