Marks and Spencer Restaurant in Preston

I go to this cafe regularly. Food is great. The staff are lovely and very helpful. However, there are just not enough of them. But the atmosphere is great and it is still a very pleasant place to go for lunch.

Came here with my sister and brother in law for a quick lunch. They both had the chicken pot pie which they said was really good. I had the Rarebit crumpets. They were tasty but could have done with some sort of garnish because they looked boring on the plate. Once again the cafe looked scruffy with tables piled up with dirty plates. They need more staff to clear tables and wipe them down. This really lets the cafe down. No-one wants to sit at tables with dirty cups and plates. And now to the worst bit, the ladies loos. What is it with M&S toilets? They smell horrible, they are scruffy. I think Fishergate is the worst although Chester comes a close second. M&S seriously needs to look at sorting their toilets cos I am fed up of holding my breath every time I use them. Scruffy cafe, scruffier loos. M&S you need to improve these.

The service was terrible a long que of people with only two persons staffing the counter trying to take orders serve tea and coffee and take payment total Kaos 6 customers left the que in frustration I requested to speak to a manager who attended and listened but did nothing not even joining to help the struggling staff it took 40 mins to be served I am amazed the cafe is still open incidentally we had delayed our meal to avoid a long que but the above experience was at 1 30pm start to sitting down at 2 15pm

First and last time I will go here. Went for lunch, decided to have a toasted sandwich, coffee and cake. The toastie took ages to arrive, after eating my cake and drinking my coffee, it still hadn't arrived, so my friend asked a member of staff about it. It eventually arrived lukewarm. Not good enough M & S.

Very disappointed awful customer service, I asked for an extra tea bag in my pot of tea as it looked quite weak and was told I would have to be charged . We asked for Sourdough toast and was given stale white bread not Sourdough. We will not be visiting again when we are in Preston

Visited cafe in early afternoon to find few food choices available. Big queue at the till with one person taking orders, making coffees etc, while another was cleaning a machine. Surely better to do this when there is not a queue of customers! Another member of staff appeared to be watching customers clear and clean tables from a kitchen area! Disappointing. This is the third visit where we have seen poor customer service here. Will not be visiting again!

My 87 year old mum had been twice this year. Both times faced with a very rude server (the same one) so no, she will find herself an independent cafe for her lunch

The breakfast here as relatively been good over the years. The last 2 visits however have been well below par. Last visit food never came out and after ocer 30 mins i was asked by cashier to provide proof of my order before they would get my food ready. This time the sour dough toast was not fit to eat. A knife couldnt cut it and after chewing for a while i gave up on it. M+S this is our last visit.

Always run out out of eggs by 10.30am !! Says breakfast served until 11am. Get some more from shop downstairs or make sure you have enough to last. Happens every weekend to us. Not everyone can eat sausage or bacon barms. Linda

We went to m and s cafe in Preston Town centre on Sunday the 5th of June our order was wrong but we let that go, but the tables were all dirty full of dirty pots sticky tables absolutely disgusting the floor had waste food on it no staff what staff they had were all children who were not interested in customer service where are the managers you should be ashamed of yourself used to be such a high quality its just rubbish.

I can honestly say this was one of the worst experiences of a cafe I have ever had. The service was dreadful, staff were rude and clearly under pressure due to under staffing. The queue to pay was out the door. The tables all needed cleaning and the coffee and hot chocolate were under par. Will not be returning.

you come into the busiest cafe in preston , that is understaffed , and you except it to be 100% perfect , staff killing themselves off every day to please customers, its not the staff faults the shop doesn't serve more vegan products , thats the owners fault , the staff are minimal what do you except you got a cafe that needs like 10 people run by 2-4 and your excepting everything to be perfect , tables are gonna be messy sometimes cause the staff are rishing between jobs as they are understaffed , they are killing themselves off so you can get a coffee , put your self in thier shoes , sweating dying , going home tired to come back and do it all over, you would all quit in a week

Pizza was delicious but my support worker Bev got the jacket potato with tuna it was really hard and definitely not going there ever again so I would recommend the pizza and I wouldn’t recommend jacket potato

Very nice food but could do better on the more good choices and open both fridges and more table services quicker customer service and very slow service

Ordered a decaf filter coffee but was told they could only do a decaf Americano. Fair enough, and I ordered one to be served with cream. I got the cream and a small biscuit served on the side. The coffee was hot but very weak and the only reason I didn’t take it back was that I was pressed for time. I left feeling that I had simply wasted money on a poor coffee at an expensive price. The young man who served me was very pleasant which contrasted pleasantly with the service I have received in the past. The surly attitude of some of the staff in this restaurant does not encourage me to go on a regular basis, and this experience means that I will not be going in the future. This is a pity as the staff in other departments of the store are excellent in the service they provide.

We popped in here for lunch. We ordered two fish finger "butties" and the girl on the till asked if we'd like chips or salad with those - said in a way which we presumed meant that they come with one or the other. We opted for one chips and one salad and along with two medium coffees, it came to just under twenty pounds!! When I asked why, she said that the chips and the salads were extra. I told her that she should have made this clear before we paid as most folk would assume by the way she asked that they came with the meal. We then moved to the coffee lady for two coffees with hot skimmed milk on the side. The lady making the coffees couldn't have huffed any louder and gave us a nasty look. The food came and despite the photograph RIGHT ABOVE the fish finger butty showing a roll with the filling it came between two almost dry slices of bread. No picking that up to eat it I'm afraid. Turns out that the photograph shows the 'chicken' option and not the fish finger option. How misleading. We were mislead at the till, huffed at by the staff and mislead by the picture. All that said, the coffees we had were hot and strong. The food was nice and the tables were clean. I will go in again, but next time, I'll be more aware.

We went to the M&S cafe with our 2 children as we were shopping in Preston. Me and my husband just wanted a good cup of coffee and we bought a bit of lunch for the kids...first of all, the service at the till is really slow, because the cashier is also the person that makes hot drinks...So you end up standing and waiting for absolutely ages holding your tray in the queue...Anyway, I ordered 2 black americanos for me and my husband. I decided to pay a little extra for their advertised single origin Brazilian coffee. It looked good. As soon as the coffees had been made I could see without trying they were too weak and watery (coffee drinkers out there will know exactly what I mean) I took them over to our table and tried mine...Weak, watery, absolutely terrible...my husband’s was the same. I took them back to the till and said the coffees are too weak and watery. The cashier (same person that made them) said she’ll replace them. I said they’ll be the same, they are too weak and need an extra shot just to make them taste like a coffee...Anyway, she replaced them. As she was making those I could see there was too much water that was put in the cup before a shot of espresso was added. Needless to say the second lot were as bad as the first. I pointed out that the coffees have too much water in for a single shot. That’s what makes them weak. She told me that this is how they make them and I can have an extra shot in each but I’ll have to pay for them! I asked for a refund. It’s shocking that when you pay around £2.50 for a coffee you still can’t get a good one! Will not be going again.

I visited your restaurant yesterday and found it wanting, the service was very very slow the staff seemed not to care as if they did not want to be there when I eventually got served I tried to find an empty table impossible the tables that were unoccupied had trays or used crockery on them, I moved the crockery to an already piled up table, only to discover that the table was filthy I managed to attract the attention of the waiter who reluctantly wiped the table leaving covered in water which I had to dry with a napkin I Will not be returning your restaurant as there are many other restaurants That pride themselves on quality service with friendly staff

Visited the Preston store today for lunch and came out very disappointed. The tables were filthy and full of dirty pots, my partner ordered the all day breakfast and to be honest looked like a child’s portion , it was Luke warm and at £7 95 was a disgrace, I had a toasted sandwich that was burnt and dry, when I ordered the late coffee there were no biscuits with them, when I said to the girl do you not get biscuits with the coffee any more the reply was you have to ask for them now,!, WHAT!!! won’t be returning, very overpriced. But to be honest we should have sent the food back.

There was a large menu on an easel at the entrance to the café and I decided to go for the Crispy Chicken Burger. Service was incredibly slow and when I ordered was told that the café were no longer doing that menu and that it was changing the next day. I asked why food was still being advertised so prominently and did not get an answer. When I asked what they were serving as hot food I was told that I could have the breakfast but only scrambled eggs, or a jacket potato. I went for a potato. Cutlery was filthy and I picked five knives before I got a clean one. Tables had not been wiped down so it was a bit off-putting to say the least. Potato was okay but needed lots of butter to make it tasty - not an enjoyable experience.

It sounded promising - fish and chips and a nice latte for lunch. How wrong we were. The latte was lukewarm , but we were prepared to overlook that on the promise of freshly cooked fish and chips. The server who brought the food was somewhat disconcerting , leaning right over the food as he took it off the tray to give us. I actually took my plate out of his hand as I thought he was getting his face too close to it. I asked for tomato ketchup and vinegar. He gave us sachets of ketchup but didn’t return. I had to go to the counter and ask again for vinegar and salt, as he only brought us a pepper pot. The fish was covered in a soggy pasty coating , as if it had been microwaved - I scraped the fish out of it to eat it . The peas looked as if they had been re heated several times, and the chips were stodgy, not like real chips at all. Needless to say I left most of it, I would not return here or recommend it to anyone. I should have complained to someone at the time , but it was obvious the server was not up to his job, it can’t have been the first time.

We took our children to Marks & Spencers cafe for a treat during our day out, knowing that we would have a good meal in the cafe.How wrong could we be.My husband and myself ordered the big all day breakfast, my daughter ordered fish and chips, one of her favourite meals and my son had a sandwich, prepacked and crisps.Well the ordering was painfully slow. To be fair we didn't have to wait long for our meal, but it wasn't the usual M & S Standards. Our all day breakfast had little on it, for the price we expected two eggs, two sausage, two rashers of bacon, more than a few mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, hash browns and toast. We got two eggs, badly poached, one sausage, two pieces of bacon badly cooked, which in total was probably a rasher, a few mushrooms, two tomatoes with burnt skins, two slices of toast ( well two slices of french stick), no beans and no hash browns. My daughters fish and chips were awful. The fish was small, batter tasted awful and soft, The chips were under cooked and hard, very disappointing. The only one to enjoy his lunch was my son with a prepacked sandwich and crisps. We paid nearly £38 for the lunch.M & S standards are very high usually, so did not expect any problems. Very unhappy, I am sure its the store, rather than M & S itself. But very disappointed, would not recommend lunch in their Preston Store Cafe.

Took my grandson to Preston station to-day. Our regular little café in the shopping precinct was closed. We walked up Fishergate and choose M and S. Glad we did.We only wanted a snack. I had the chicken, mushroom and rice soup. Came with two different types of smallish bread rolls and 2 packs of real butter. This was the best soup I have had for as long as I remember. Would say that it was 'home-made' rather than from a drum, it certainly tasted so . I spoke to two members of staff who both looked at me when they spoke and smiled when they answered me. There were 3 staff in evidence who coped admirably at what appeared a busy time, around 1.00 pm.Dirty crockery was removed promptly and tables cleaned. All of the few vacant tables had been cleared quickly so we had no difficulty finding somewhere to sit. (Dirty and uncleared tables are inexcusable and we generally do not go again).Will definitely visit again, just hope the same soup is on the menu. Thank- you.

Omg !!! What the ...... staff absolutely rubbish and totally inexperienced tables either full of pots or sticky and full of crumbs . Shame on you m&s;!!!

Visited with a friend for afternoon drink, tea was fine with extra water as requested. Service was ok tea ok, cafe was reasonably clean, staff friendly enough, not too busy, probably as it was Monday.

Visited M&S; cafe and was so disappointed. The cappuccinos we ordered had little caffeine content, just warm milk. The place was full of dirty cups and plates on the majority of the tables. We did well to find a table clear of used cups and plates. Couldn't understand why staff appeared unwilling to clear the tables in readiness for new customers. Ridiculous. Certainly won't be returning again.

M&S; is not my first choice for a lunch time snack but I was in the store anyway so thought I would pop in for something to eat. I chose to have a jacket potato and a cup of tea. There was one person on the cash desk and one person making the drinks but this seemed to take forever. I managed to find a table even though I had to clear it first and I had to ask for some cutlery. The potato came and was alright - nothing spectacular and was a little bit hard in places. The dressing on the garnish was nice but overall the potato is overpriced for what you get compared to other places in Preston.

I am a big eater and expect a bigger than normal portion of food which is wrong. The plate was far too big for the breakfast and left me thinking where is the rest. I am comparing the size with pub breakfasts. The quality of the food is outstanding and the produce was good. I am just asking for small plates as they say you eat with your eyes

Myself and my partner decided to try the newly available cooked breakfasts for our lunch. I should have been put off by the price- £7.95 each, but thought as it was M&S;, it should be of a very good quality. I couldn't have been more wrong. Bacon was reasonably average, but the rest was tasteless and the toast was awful- burnt and even with the butter which came with the breakfast, it was still rather dry. Texture of the toast was very bad.

Called in for a cuppa, freshly brewed and perfect. Very busy this afternoon but service good . Good selection of snacks and cakes available

Lovely cafe. Pleasant staff, and always manage to find a seat, although it's regularly busy!

Good place to have a hot drink, tea our favourite, also has cold drinks available, nice selection of cakes and pastries if you want or sandwiches. Nice fairly comfortable clean surroundings. Staff very helpful and polite.

If you are in a hurry and not fussy then it was ok. The toastie was done quite fine and the coffee was ok too, but the wait and the mess all over the tables wasn't so good.

I am regular visitor to M&S; The food was cold ,complained there was no apology they just took food off me And with speed it came back to me it was just put in a Micro wave it was the same plate I expect better

Visited for lunch today and very disappointed. Our first visit here and expected good quality food and service, will definitely be our last. We had to ask for our table to be cleaned as although it had been cleared after the previous customers it was left badly stained with food deposits. We ordered fish and chips and at £7.50 each expected it to be freshly made. We received a ready meal straight from the freezer, the chips were under cooked and tasted like rubber and the batter on the fish was soggy. The portion size was small. Just can't understand why M&S; would serve such rubbish.

Tea and cake- love m and s tea- always great- had the carrot cake too which was moist and delicious - mmm! Will be back soon to eat

Absolutely looked like a back street cafe in Blackpool. Filthy! !! Three young lads at back of till just talking not thinking about the customer at all to busy chatting. The floor was covered in everything tables cluttered with pots tables not wiped . You'd expect better really marks and spencers not a good look .

We often shop in Preston and always head to marks and Spencer's cafe for coffee and scones. Lovely to relax after our shopping

We always call in for brunch whenever we are in town as it is a good location on the high street. I consider the food some of the best in the local cafes and the staff are cheerful and obliging. Cooked food is freshly prepared and served hot.

The staff at this cafe are great I ordered a gluten free item and they doubled checked behind the scenes that it definitely was gluten free before my purchases were put through the cash out. Thankyou!

Popped in for a bacon barm and coffee several months ago. Though the queue wasn't long I stood there for quite awhile before getting to place my order. Coffee was fine but bacon barm so disappointing. Never been back.

Went for a cup of tea and a snack. 2 adults 1 child. Seemed like inadequately trained staff on the tills and the ones hovering in the background. ... well god knows what they were paid to do!! Few people actually in the restaurant. The queue only had 5 people in total you would have thought it was 25. when I asked for a cup of tea... my 3 year old could have done it quicker and with more care and attention. Surly staff stood doing nothing. The customers were fed up of waiting. Sadly i needed to go to the till again to get one 200ml carton of apple juice priced at £1.00. Took almost 10 minutes to get the carton of apple juice as the next customers wanted 2 teas then the next wanted a cappuccino. Don't bother going to this place. Go to any other cafe not this one as it seriously doesn't know how to care for it's customers.

On arrival we were greeted with a chaotic cafe bursting at the seems with customers. The cakes on sale were minute. After waiting for 2.5 hours an elderly fragile man (who could hardly walk) stumbled over with incorrect orders. He tried to force my vegetarian friend to eat a chicken AND bacon toastie, forcing it down her throat, even though she is a member of the United Church of Bacon it does not give him the right to force meat down a vegetarians gullet. We eventually got our meals and i was disgusted to find a dead rat in my toastie! and I specifically asked for no mayo.

For a sandwich and coffee £7 each self service and I think that the food was good but to to pay double for a pre packaged sandwich angered me a little... Was ok

In Preston with wife and daughter and instead of going for fast food decided we would have a treat at the M&S; cafe. A really poor experience. Staff although polite initially did not know what food was available. After we ordered we found a table, this was dirty and wife had to get a couple of serviettes to wipe the table down. The fish and chips (over £7 each) the wife and I ordered were very small portions, the fish were rectangular/straight out of the freezer and the chips were under cooked. Absolutely no comparison with Booths at Fulwood. My daughters sausage sandwich was rubbery and so bad she just left it. A thoroughly bad experience.
