Was suggested by my son but I was very disappointed. Having now looked at previous reviews I can see that my experience was not unique. Tables not cleared properly, they had run out of teapots. Very slow service. Poorly designed with condiments out of site.If you order a pot of tea you get a cup without a saucer and what amounts to a small cup certainly not enough for the price.. The fish and chips was unappetising, the chips were OK but the fish and peas were dried out. This was one of the worst experiences in a cafe I have had for a long time. Portion sizes were OK but you would have to pay me to go back.

Sad to say a disappointing experience - and writing this because it is not the first time. Decided to give M&S Cafe another go after last less than great experience. Ordered 2 toasties and 2 hot drinks. Over 30 minute wait for the toasties to be heated up - staff on tills not warning customers about 30-40 minute wait for food so a lot of unhappy customers blocking tables having already consumed their drinks. Coffee machines not able to keep up with demand and were dispensing cold milk. Hot Chocolate was stone-cold chocolate. The server was great and did make it again for me but it was clear that the machines are not built for the throughput in this cafe. Overheard staff mentioning no hot or cold running water in kitchen but Cafe was still trading!?! Cafe clearly understaffed and coffee equipment not up to the job. M&S need to have a policy of informing customers if there is a wait for food - most will be very grateful to be warned.

We popped in for hot chocolate and cake whilst shopping. The cafe was busy and the empty tables all had dirty loaded trays on them. We sat down hoping the table would be cleared and cleaned but it wasn’t. We saw at least ten dirty trays on tables. Our table was disgusting. It was dirty and had glitter and sticky coloured bits on it, obviously children had sat there. The hot chocolate and cake were lovely but we’re very disappointed with everything else. I’ve got a cold today, probably from the germ ridden table. House of Fraser has closed in Guildford which had two cafes so I think M and S need to either employ more staff or organise the team better before the Christmas rush.

Pretty average place, wouldn’t go out of your way to get here, just a stop off if you have to when shopping. Coffee and cake for £6.50 isn’t cheap and a fairly soulless place to sit with a lot of uncleared tables. I counted 13 when I sat down and there was no rush to clear any of them. Coffee was ok but better in the chains like Neros, cake was very sweet but looked good

There is a good selection of different dishes on offer. Cakes, scones, croissant, sausage in a bun and many other hot dishes. There can be queues at key times, like lunchtimes. The eating areas are spacious and kept clean. A reliable place to eat, although not very exciting!

Whilst Marks & Spencers cafés may not be known for their "Haute Cuisine", one can always count on them for a quick snack, sandwiches, cakes and a great choice of teas & coffees. I cn personally recommend the bacon rolls & the Millionaire's Shortbread.

The cafe was filthy, no cleared tables. very very limited gluten free selection, i'm not a child and fancied a cake all they had was a chocolate crispy bar. In the past they've had a beautiful chocolate cake or gluten free scone. It was early on a Friday morning so no excuse just bad management. Service or (lack of training) at tills was not good. The rest of the shop was poor as well.

No volveremos. . . .

Do Marks and Spencer's care about their customers? If they do, they have a funny way of showing it...And I'm not sure where to start with this review; other than it makes me sad to think of what was once a great British institution getting it SO wrong. All their cafes are pretty horrible these days, but the one in their Guildford store was particularly bad - mainly because it was filthy: with food all over the floor, seats, tables; trays littering the place etc etc. Like a bad motorway services, just awful. Shame, because we all know their food's good, or can be, and it would be so easy for them to tweak a few things and GET IT RIGHT.Start with cleaning the places up, & keep them clean - like other restaurants!Try and make them comfortable for the CUSTOMER.Maybe have a few staff waiting on tables - to offer refills and the like (more ££s!)Serve the chilled, packaged sandwiches on plates.Put out salt and pepper pots.Provide proper paper napkins..... Just a few thoughts.

I am not sure what bras have to do with a café, reading the previous review. Personally when I go to café I prefer to eat and drink, but each to their own. This is a fairly typical Marks and Spencer style café with a small selection of sandwiches, cakes etc. and the odd hot dish as well. In keeping with most similar establishments, and despite the considerably improved range of gluten free produce available in the food hall downstairs, very little of it seems to have made it's way up here. The food hall offers at least three gluten free sandwiches (only one of which is also suitable for vegetarians, but at least it's a start), but there is not one to be seen in the café upstairs. As for the salads, I didn't see a single one that didn't include either pasta or meat. Indeed the only suitable offerings are a bowl of soup with a gluten free roll or the same old jacket potato with cheese or beans. If you really want to push the boat us you can have both. The coffee is nice, but one cannot live on coffee alone, so I shall be sticking to Starbucks or better still The Beano, who know how to serve proper gluten free vegetarian food.

Ordered one toastie which took nearly 30 minutes to arrive after the rush hour for food was well and truly over. By this time our tea was lukewarm and we had almost lost the will to live. A very harassed waitress turned up with a different toastie to the one we had ordered, and explained that there was mayhem as the kitchen had not been supplied with the right numbers for orders placed at tills. As a result they had no idea what orders were for which tables. She and one other waitress appeared to be the only people attempting to bring order to utter chaos. Someone should have got a grip on this situation as it was complete disarray. Ten minutes later another toastie arrived! We ended-up being given both!!!

I ordered a margherita pizza. I have had it before and I liked it. This time they had run out of pizza. They gave me a ham & cheese toastie instead. They didn't give me any other option to choose something else. That was very disappointing. The food came very quickly though. They helped Daddy with the tray because he had my brother in the buggy, so service was pretty good. Daddy didn't let me have any afters even though I nagged him. That isn't M&S's fault though. Well I thought I would pop upstairs to the M&S cafe on the top floor for a quick coffee and I was expecting a very long queue and struggling staff to serve. But wow what a change. Gone are the long single line where everyone had to wait. Its now an open dual style option where the cashier is in front of the coffee and tea making so they an help with the popular stream of people that visit and long for a pot of tea after a hard day shopping. The eating area is clean and abundant with 2 seated tables and some 4 seaters. The floor is bright walnut wooden floor and very airy and pleasant to environment. Its well worth the visit and with the staff as ever helpful and pleasant. I will make a detour just to come here again.

The coffee was good but I had to wait at least 20 mins for it after they had given my latte to someone else. I had to speak to a rather grumpy waiter about three times to get him to eventually bring my latte. When I complained I was told it was my fault as I had moved tables. I had but I was still very close by and only to comply with the cafe's request that our running group should be in a particular area as we also had a walking group with dogs. Watching everyone receive their coffee when these people had ordered theirs a long time after me was not a great experience. I raised the matter in a polite way at the end but nobody was prepared to offer an apology.

We were in Ripley to visit a family member and popped in to the Half Moon for a quick en route. Well priced beer, good environment, and more to the point a proper friendly landlord and landlady. Wish we had a pub like this nearer to where we live, would never be out of the place. Would most certainly return if we were ever to be back in Ripley.
