I have read the reviews and do not recognise them. My daughter lives close by so I regularly take around F n chips for us all. Always fresh fish, always correctly cooked with crisp batter and firm cod pieces.....consistency, excellent. I have to ask for fewer chips as I find the portions too large. I never write reviews but felt obliged to give a contra opinion.

I asked for portion chips savaloy and fish cake. Came to just short of £9 When I received I questioned the size of chips. He said new packaging held the old size portion. So I emptied on a flat paper and it was ridiculous so small not even a child’s portion. He disagreed. But gave me more. I said I won’t be returning as prices increase but sizes go smaller.

We had medium cod and a large chips to eat out of boxes in the park. The fish was rather small but the quality was excellent - thick and white and perfectly cooked with light thin batter and the chips were excellent too. The previous customers before us had large cod and they were HUGE so next time I will order one large fish to share.

Two of the tiniest pieces of cod you’ve ever seen and a few chips. Didn’t even taste nice, soggy! Expensive too!

First thing that struck me was the size of the portions. Very small compared to other fish & chip shops that charge the same price. Wouldn't have minded if is was nice. To sum up it was inedible. The chips were grim. Poor quality potatoes and tasted like they were cooked in old oil. I actually thought I'd been served just a piece of batter there was so little fish. I scraped off the batter to discover a tiny slither of fish. When I tasted it, initially I thought it was either old or off as it didn't even taste like cod. I can't prove it obviously but I suspect it was actually basa fish.

Thought we’d treat ourselves to fish and chips and were extremely disappointed, not the first time. Friendly ish staff but the fish sizes are tiny for what you pay. Small cod I was expecting small but literally skin in a tiny bit of batter. Regular chips also very small and neither piping hot even when eaten immediately. Last time we ate here we also both had an upset stomach. This is our local chippy but won’t go back and waste our money again. Disappointing.

For a fish and chip shop I was astonished to be served dry cold shrivelled chips at a lunch time they where so bad I had to bin them and went down the road to deep blue and there I was served fresh hot chips although deep blue portions are smaller they actually taste nice

Everything was expensive, portions small, the regular fish was definately small. Boxes used rather than paper which is better for transport but cardboard makes things soggy.

£3.30 for a large chips. Easily the smallest portion in all my reviews. Won’t be back. They weren’t great either.

We vroegen of dit mogelijk was, "but they were afraid not".

We tried Marino's as it looked the best place to get some food in the area. We tried the large haddock which was extremely fresh and not too heavily battered. It was cooked to perfection and very large. The chips survived the journey back to our hotel and were plentiful. All was nicely presented in a box. There is a big step into the shop so care was needed getting in.

Convenient for me to park in lay by outside that was the only good thing. The chips were a mix of soggy and some crispiness and were not very hot so probably been sitting around for a while. The fish if it was cod was worse, a very thin grey looking piece the batter looked ok from the outside but once through the crisp layer you met with a stoggy under cooked layer next to the the fish, scrapping this away exposed the grey fish

A good, solid, chippie. Although the wait time on the day I visited was longer than ideal- I guess thats because it was busy!

Tried to spend money in here tonight after standing there for five minutes still no “hello” This is not the first time this has happened, there was only two other customers in the shop!! I don’t mind waiting but to not even get a “hello” the two girls who were serving up front need to go on a customer service course and be given a hair net, you can have the best fish and chips in the world but your front of house are just plain rude, you have not got a clue how to run a customer friendly business I will never spend another penny in your shop.

Accepted an order and cancelled it AN HOUR AND HALF later when everything else was closed leaving me without any food. Why not just cancel it immediately if you knew you couldn't deliver? Absolutely appalled.

I like this chippy a lot: the fish is always as fresh as can be and the chips are cooked to perfection. I can't think of a better fast food venue in the area!

Have been a few times, but generally find their chips better than the fish. Pricey compared to our regular chippy in Herne Bay, but that's Canterbury for you.

This is a take away fish and hip shop not a restaurant. The fish is always excellent and nowhere else have I found better. The chips are straight cut and chunky. Service is always with a smile. I love fish and can recommend the "large" option which is cooked fresh for you while you wait. There are options for children (which may also suit older people)) and you can also buy pies, sausages, peas and drinks.

Went in to Marino's this afternoon, thought I would try it over Papa's, my regular choice for fish and chips on Wincheap. Walked in and saw a few people standing in the shop, a couple looked like regulars, so you get the impression that there are some people that actually likes this place, and actually keep coming back. After today, I have to say, I won't be one of them. After almost a minute of being in the shop I get asked for my order, I ask for a large portion of chips and a couple of servings of curry sauce. She asks if I want anything else with that, I say no thanks and she takes my money. I believe it was £3.40 in total. A few other orders go by and the lady asks if I want salt and vinegar on the chips, I respond with a "yes, please". I can see from the small portion she is wrapping up that it isn't a large portion, so I ask if it's a large portion, she responds "no" and tells me I asked for a small portion. I'm a little pissed off, but make it clear that I asked for a 'large portion'. She responds that she can give me a large portion but it will cost a pound extra. I check the price on the board and she is over charging me, I have already paid for the right amount, but she mistakenly assumes I paid for a small portion. I pay the extra pound, take my chips and curry sauce, and disapprovingly shake my head when I leave. Customer service here is shoddy. I get home open up my curry sauce and one cup is half full and the other only two thirds. If you want the definition of a "con" go to Marino's. If you want a decent fish chips go to Papa's, it may be an extra 5 minutes walk, but it's worth it.

Surprised this isn't more highly rated. Having carried out "extensive research" this is always the preferred option. The chips are always freshly hand cut and the fish is always served in a crispy batter. Lots of choice including kebabs and grilled fish options. Yeah, it is a little bit more expensive than others but, at the end of the day you get what you pay for

I know Canterbury is expensive in general but I would expect a fish and chip shop a bit further out of the city centre to adjust their prices accordingly. It's not really expensive but is a bit more than you'd usually expect to pay for fish and chips. Quality of the he food is good and fairly quick sevice

Was very shocked having seen that gluten free batter was available that all fish and chips are fried in the same fryers as the wheat batters. They told me they tried to keep it separate but it did not take off but they still sell a lot! I am guessing those needing a gluten free diet assume it has been researched and cooked appropriately? I was told that the products were cooked to a high temperature. I explained that gluten is not a bug and cannot be killed so cooking food with gluten products claiming to be gluten free is not the number. My daughter has coeliacs and it is not a choice but a necessity to avoid gluten. If you have coeliac disease avoid at all costs as it is NOT GLUTEN FREE due to major cross contamination. Did not buy food here but felt the need to inform about the discrepancy.

Just had a takeaway from here. Really disappointing. The chips were ok but the fish well where do I start. The batter was orange, not something I’ve ever seen before and the fish grey and slimey. It was meant to be cod but I have my reservations. Never again!

Wasn’t impressed the cod tasted as if it was frozen. Usually when you have fresh fish you don’t have water between the batter and fish mine had. I had a better cod close by in a fish and chip called Ossis’s for half the price .Don’t get me started a bottle of their ale £8.50 won’t be going there again. I was so looking forward to it.The restaurant seems to be just catering for tourists. I asked a local if they could recommend a local restaurant for fish knowing that Whitstable has a fishing fleet and she said she would go to Iceland supermarket

I went out for a walk with my elderly mother and we decided to have fish and chips in a box and sit in the sun to enjoy them so lunch was a take away. I ordered cod and chips twice and the girl serving said £25 please. My mother said have you got that right and the girl said it's £9 for the cod and £3.50 for the chips. I thought the £9 was for cod and chips. My mother said lets just pay it as she doesn't like fuss. We walked with our box's, sat down and opened them. Talk about wanting things both ways, a very small cod large a inflated large price. Whilst sat we were approached by a group of 4 people who asked where we bought our fish & chips. I told them to look at the size of cod for £9 plus extra for the chips. They said they would give it a miss for that price. Dean's Plaice will never catch me or any of my family again. This place serves small Cod for an over inflated price. Very expensive .
