Looked at local places to eat, this was highly recommended - did not disappoint. Very welcoming with our dog. When we walked in we were greeted by great friendly happy staff. Seated near to the fire and service was exceptional. Food did not disappoint, eaten at Michelin rated restaurants previously but this has to be by far the best. Food was incredible and the Scotch Egg was unreal. Enjoyed it so much today we booked to go again before we return home

We only popped in for a drink but we were charged £25.50 for one gin and tonic and one pint of lager. I queried the amount and was told that my gin alone was £16 and the tonic was £4! Dined here after watching a review on Gary eats, I was so looking forward to the same experience, sadly not! My daughter had" The Dogs Pollock" which she enjoyed. I had Shepherds pie, it had good flavour but was extremely dry. My side of broccoli was stone cold. We both had trifle for dessert, this was awful! simply flavourless stodge. I'm a good home cook, nothing fancy and my daughter says our meals at home far exceed what we had at the Mariners.

Very disappointed by our late lunch at the Mariners today. The last visit 4 years ago was a disaster but because we always have good experiences at Ainsworths other restaurants we decided to give it another try. The food was good but after our meal we were asked to move from our table to have our coffee at the bar despite only having been there 1 hour 45 minutes ( booking says 2 hours) and the place being almost empty. Had it been full and at 2 hours we wouldn’t mind moving but there was ample room to seat anyone about to arrive. Had we had starters we would probably have had to eat our desserts at the bar too! Once the issue was raised I would have expected a sincere apology but instead we got a very half hearted apology and they kept the change from my payment as if I had given them permission to keep it as a tip. Not good attitude! It will be a very long time , if ever, till we visit again!

On our last visit 4 years ago we vowed not to return to the Mariners because of poor service. We still use Ainsworth’s other restaurants in Padstow every year and have always had great experiences. Today we returned to the Mariners for a late lunch. Everything was fine and the food was good. Service was very slow but we were in no hurry and happy to sit enjoying the meal and the view. When it came to coffee we were suddenly asked to have it at the bar so the table could be ready for the next booking. This was only 1 hour 45 minutes after arrival and despite the table supposedly ours for 2 hours. At the time we were asked to move the restaurant had only 2 other tables in use, so at least 6 other tables of various sizes empty. When I got the bill I mentioned we found it unnecessary and annoying to be moved the way we had the reaction from the staff was insincere and patronizing. To make matters worse the senior member of staff I spoke to failed to bring the change from the payment as if it was a given that they were allowed to keep the change for themselves! It seems strange that Ainsworths other restaurants, Number 6 , and Rojano’s have always been excellent in service and quality but the Mariners has disappointed massively on two separate occasions.

We enjoyed a pint of Offshore whilst checking out the delicious menu. Met Mario again saw him previously at Rohan’s in Padstow. We had been looking forward to trying the Mariner's for some time but we were slightly underwhelmed I'm afraid. Some of the dishes were really very good eg the mackerel (but I can't understand the mayo all over it) and the squid, but some less so. The shepherd's pie was a hit but the prawn cocktails were under seasoned and the Rock fries were not tasty at all sadly - big chunks of fairly bland, floury, uncrispy potato. Charming and helpful waiting staff. We left feeling it had been a long journey from Padstow for a very expensive meal and that we much preferred Rojanos. Sorry.

Wow what can I say. My partner booked us into a delightful sheppard hut in St Kew, so I thought for a nice romantic dinner I'd book us in to The Mariners in Rock. When I made the booking I put a note asking if the staff wouldn't mind taking a few pictures of my proposal to my partner during the meal. I did not anticipate the incredible welcome and the sheer support we got from the entire staff. Not only did our waitress, Sienna, liase with me to take pictures of the occasion, we received a beautiful card and extra special drinks (and a lovely pep talk) from Paul, Emma, Cicci, Audrey-Bloom and the Mariners family. It was just perfect. Thank you so so much. We ordered a bottle of wine and shared the Cote de Boeuf which was absolutely sensational. The service was so on point in every way and the atmosphere was beautiful. We will never forget this special occasion. Oh she said yes BTW. I'd leave a million star review if I could. Called in after walking the coastal path the St Enedocs Chapel. We’d booked a couple of weeks ahead and got a late lunch slot. After a fair few miles of walking The Mariners was most welcoming. A lovely reception from the staff and shown to our table even though we were a little early. Serving staff were on the ball and kept us supplied with wine and beers. We only had to walk to the ferry afterwards. My wife ordered a burger. She doesn’t eat burgers but she loved it. I had The Dogs Pollock. Having read other reviews, all good, I was a little disappointed, it was nice but a little bland. Others had fish and chips and a curry. Both were reported as excellent. Rock is a town that felt very unwelcoming. We arrived into Rock in the rain, looking for a bus which was a mile walk from the coast path. When we got there along roads with no pavements and a constant stream of Chelsea tractors we found it was a 90 min wait. A mile back to the pub, Mariners, who were very unwelcoming despite having a number of empty tables (5) they could not give us one (except for bar stools which no good with a dog) and said we’d have to wait for someone to finish, and then rush before the next booking (I mean it’s sort of fair but they would not take a reservation, only walk ins, on the phone line when we’d tried an hour before). Shame.

We visited The Mariner’s at the end of may for the first time. Unfortunately we were not able to book ahead but they happily accommodated us as we had walked-in early that day, and they had capacity. We enjoyed the grilled scallops and fish cakes (specials) for starters whilst we had the chicken dish and infamous dog’s pollock for mains. The portion sizes were generous; high quality ingredients with high-quality cooking to match. It was a welcoming and warm atmosphere for all; from families with babies, those with dogs (sat outside), couples and even groomsmen enjoying a pint ahead of the big day. Service was attentive and outstanding with knowledgeable sommeliers too. Book ahead to avoid disappointment or at least arrive early for walk-ins. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Cooked to perfection. The taramasalata was creamy and not over powering. 1st time I had fried oysters. Highly recommend trying them. 100x better than fresh!! I said what I said... the lamb shepardd pie was full of flavour and endless amounts of slow cooked lamb shoulder that just melted. No chewy chunks of fatty meat. The curry was just a curry, the accompaniments were tasty tho. And for pudding we shared a pavlova. By now I was struggling to get food in! It was "ok". We visited for a big birthday, and were shown to our table by a really lovely Italian chap. A birthday card had been left on our table, which was a nice touch. The food was OK. I definitely didn't choose well. The calamari was OK. The pollock dog was simply a posh fish finger sandwich, it was quite rich and too much roll vs fish. The meringue desert was the best bit for me, but I was quite disappointed overall. The family seemed pretty pleased with their choices. The fish and chips looked beautiful, as did the prawn cocktail. A couple of our mains were forgotten, and when we asked for then, they were brought out by the head waiter. The Mariners are dog friendly, and we took our three dogs who were happy to lay beside our table. Unfortunately there was a lady seated near the bar with a small dog under her table, who lunged, and barked at every thing that passed her. The noise became quite irritating, and it did Unfortunately spoil the atmosphere. It did feel a little confused, like a pub that was trying to be a restaurant, or a restaurant trying to be a pub..... It's in a beautiful location, and the staff were lovely.

It was apparent the kitchen was struggling with the number of orders as we overheard other guests being told this, however this wasn't communicated with us and our waitress avoided our table, after sitting there for an hour and a half we left. For the price of the food this is disappointing that the service doesn't reflect this.

What a simply amazing experience. Last night if our family holiday, what a way to finish it off. Perfect in every way. The food was so good, all the staff friendly and attentive. My friend that recommended the pub said book twice and now I know why!

Tried out the usual places in St Ives whilst staying for half term week and here was the best meal we had all week. Price perfectly realistic compared to others. Staff and service were fantastic and friendly. Crab linguine was perfect, Lebanese wine was delicious and the view is the best in town.

The cafe is situated on the far side of the harbour, close to the Ship Inn. The view from our window table was lovely. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had a slice of the lemon drizzle cake which delicious, and big! We will visit again for lunch when the reopen after some decoration. Check the internet for opening times.

Simply outstanding!! From the moment you are greeted to happily offering a generous tip " The Shack " in Falmouth is a must for all sea food lovers! The food, the flavours, the portion sizes, the choice, the price.. all just great value! If it was closer this would be our local go to most weekends. Nothing to fault here! Highly recommend you visit! Thankyou for a super lovely evening Keisha Craig and family from Newquay. Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5
