Il took my kids to explore rock, Decided il have some posh pub food, We order pasta bazil tomato dish of the kids menu, When it came out it was just basic pale small pasta tubes with thin water tomatoes sauce she was very disappointed. For the price il could cook better at home. It's was very over rated in price aswell. £14.00 For four scoop ice cream £3.50 a scoop total rip off. The curry was very bland and disappointed And the ploughman's was a shocker £23.50 Only thing was good was kids sausage and chips. And the view.

If your ever in the area you must make the effort and visit!! Visited The Mariners Public House in Padstow many times. This time for a family birthday and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming—perfect for a special occasion without feeling overly formal. The food was excellent across the board, but the standout for me was the buttermilk fried chicken starter—crispy, tender, and packed with flavour. I've even recreated it to great success from Paul's book (also highly recommended!). Mains and drinks maintained the same high standard, with quality ingredients and well-balanced dishes. With an average spend of around £50 per head for a starter, main and drinks, it felt like great value for the quality on offer. The service was smooth and friendly, and the views from the restaurant were simply stunning—especially if you're lucky enough to visit on a clear sunny day. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Padstow, especially if you're after great food in a relaxed but special setting.

Went here for my Fiances birthday last night. We always book The Mariners when we visit Padstow and always have an amazing time. However, last night was different. We were sat downstairs in a busy corner which had 3-4 dogs, along with the loudest people. The staff were great and we understand that it's dog friendly, however we selected the restaurant area which mentioned dogs were not allowed, but were sat in the dog area. Just a bit disappointing.

Beautiful walk from Polzeath to Rock. We opted for the set menu which was fantastic, so beautifully presented, seasoned and the service was amazing. We had a window table in the bar area as we had our dog with us, who was also made to feel welcome. The Italian maître d is so welcoming and all the staff attenuative and well trained. The Mariners is unpretentious, warm and welcoming and the views are beautiful. The walk back to Polzeath with the tide out was stunning. Thank you, we will be back.

Had a wonderful lunch to celebrate our sons birthday. Lovely touch to have a birthday card waiting on the table. The service was excellent from the warm greeting and throughout the meal, with genuine interest shown in how we were enjoying our lunch. We opted for the 3 course set lunch and our son and his partner several small dishes. All of the food tasted wonderful and our son thought the buttered chicken was the best he had tasted. With the 3 course lunch started with goats cheese, followed by cottage pie then spotted dick, which were all wonderful. Perfect choice for lunch and we will be coming back again very soon.

The Mariners Public House Review: A Disappointing Experience My visit to The Mariners Public House was unfortunately a letdown from start to finish. Upon ordering, the food arrived with alarming speed—within a minute or two. At first, I was impressed by how fast it came out, but then I realized that this lightning-fast service had its downsides. The food was barely lukewarm, as if it had been pre-prepared and simply reheated. The roast potatoes were unpleasant, stale and lacking any real flavor or texture. The single slice of beef was dominated by fat and gristle, leaving much to be desired in terms of quality. The cauliflower cheese was not only unseasoned but also thick and gloopy, as though it had been sitting out for far too long. The broccoli, oddly, tasted like lemon dish soap, which was off-putting and unappetizing. The only redeeming features were the gravy which was rich and flavourful, and the Yorkshire pudding, which was light and well-cooked, but they were far from enough to salvage the meal. As for the service, it was equally disappointing. The staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than attending to customers. We were left unattended for long stretches, not checked on at any point during the meal, and had to wait at every stage of service. For two courses and drinks, the total bill came to over £80, which is steep for the quality of food and service provided. Overall, my experience at The Mariners was far from the standard I had hoped for. I won’t be returning anytime soon, and I would not recommend it to others.

Very disappointed by our late lunch at the Mariners today. The last visit 4 years ago was a disaster but because we always have good experiences at Ainsworths other restaurants we decided to give it another try. The food was good but after our meal we were asked to move from our table to have our coffee at the bar despite only having been there 1 hour 45 minutes ( booking says 2 hours) and the place being almost empty. Had it been full and at 2 hours we wouldn’t mind moving but there was ample room to seat anyone about to arrive. Had we had starters we would probably have had to eat our desserts at the bar too! Once the issue was raised I would have expected a sincere apology but instead we got a very half hearted apology and they kept the change from my payment as if I had given them permission to keep it as a tip. Not good attitude! It will be a very long time , if ever, till we visit again!

On our last visit 4 years ago we vowed not to return to the Mariners because of poor service. We still use Ainsworth’s other restaurants in Padstow every year and have always had great experiences. Today we returned to the Mariners for a late lunch. Everything was fine and the food was good. Service was very slow but we were in no hurry and happy to sit enjoying the meal and the view. When it came to coffee we were suddenly asked to have it at the bar so the table could be ready for the next booking. This was only 1 hour 45 minutes after arrival and despite the table supposedly ours for 2 hours. At the time we were asked to move the restaurant had only 2 other tables in use, so at least 6 other tables of various sizes empty. When I got the bill I mentioned we found it unnecessary and annoying to be moved the way we had the reaction from the staff was insincere and patronizing. To make matters worse the senior member of staff I spoke to failed to bring the change from the payment as if it was a given that they were allowed to keep the change for themselves! It seems strange that Ainsworths other restaurants, Number 6 , and Rojano’s have always been excellent in service and quality but the Mariners has disappointed massively on two separate occasions.

This is a great little cafe on the beachfront. They have seating along the road right on the beachfront. The staff were friendly and chat to you about the bay. The cafe is clean and has a good selection of snacks and drinks. This was always our stop on our return from the coastal walks, with a bottle of wine, ice cream and watch the sea roll in or out.

A lovely venue, polite staff and good food - the trouble was that it took so very long to arrive! We were the fifth and sixth people in the restaurant and yet it took 45 minutes after ordering for our food to show. Another gripe is the menu - initially the prices seem very reasonable, until you notice a ‘supplement’ charge on half the main courses. The supplement is an additional cost on top of the listed menu price, meaning the food doesn’t actually fall under the price category it appears to. The food is not overpriced, but the way of listing it feels deceptive. It’s a shame because as mentioned, the atmosphere and food itself were lovely.
