We visited this restaurant whilst on holiday in Cornwall and it was a great find. The owner and waiter were amazing. We were unable to book online and just turned up, but the owner manged to find us a table on the rooftop terrace to sit 7 people including a baby. They even brought us blankets as it was a little windy. The food was fresh and of really good quality. It was my husband's birthday so we brought our own cake from Tesco and the waiter/host added his own touches to it to make it taste and look even better. They even gave him a birthday card and this wasn't even planned. The owner just asked for my husband's name when I discretely handed him the cake and came back later with a card for him. For Cornwall the price was reasonable for the service and food we recieved. We would definitely go back. Thanks for a lovely experience.

We had been here for a drink last year and wanted to try it. The food is amazing here. Really good stuff and reasonable value considering how special it is. The service is friendly and kind but we did have a 45 minute wait between courses, for which the staff knocked off a round of drinks. Pretty small hiccup because the food is unbelievable here and a lot of customers gives it a really good buzz.

Staying in Rock we booked to eat here twice, the pub itself is as good as the photos show, it’s a shame they don’t have more fish specials on the menu and I found the waiting staff a little cold. Last visited in summer 2023, really enjoyed our experience so we decided to try again during our trip to Cornwall. Arrived and inside was very busy, managed to grab a table outside and was told someone would be out to take our order. Waited 15 mins and no one had come over to us, went inside to order and was told to go back to our table and someone would come out. Managed to place our order at the bar, waitress came out with our drinks and had to request someone wipe our table after clearing it. Waited a while for food, was pretty nice but I wouldn’t say the cheese ploughman’s is worth the £23.50 we paid. Went to the bar to pay, had to wait another 15 mins until someone decided to serve me, felt like I was invisible! Sadly not the service we expected, definitely wouldn’t return in a hurry and glad we have chosen to dine elsewhere for Easter Sunday!

Set in an exceptional location overlooking the Camel Estuary. The pub is relaxed dining, but with the ambience of a very good restaurant. It feels clean and organised without being stuffy. The food was excellent. In particular, the scotch egg, trifle (the best I’ve ever tasted) and chocolate crème brûlée. Prices were reasonable especially considering its location and its celebrity chef owner. Will definitely visit again.

Having previously had the good fortune to eat at both No 6 and Cafe Rojano’s in Padstow, it had long been on my ‘wish list’ to visit The Mariners at Rock. We’d been staying in Port Isaac for the weekend so on the off chance there’d be a table available for Sunday lunch we turned up about midday keeping everything crossed! It was most definitely our lucky day as there was space on the upstairs balcony which could not have been any better as at the time we were there, the sun came out and the views over the estuary were stunning. What a glorious location - and we had that ‘first sun on your face / first al fresco dining experience of the year’ feeling made all the more special by outstanding food and service. Being gluten free, it would be fair to say we have had a few mixed experiences with Sunday roasts over the years, but we really need not have worried here - in fact the chefs went above and beyond for us, making their own homemade GF Yorkshire pudding and substituting cauliflower cheese with superb chargrilled cabbage wedges. The beef was amazing - Cornish roast sirloin accompanied by braised short rib. For dessert we shared the tropical pavlova - another flavour fest and the perfect way to end our meal. All of the waiting staff plus the house managers were so friendly, helpful and welcoming. This meal was up there with one of our best ever dining experiences! Thank you to Paul Ainsworth and his incredible team - I feel very privileged to be living in Cornwall at a time when the quality of dining experiences is so high.

My husband and I LOVED our lunch at the Mariners. We had an early lunch from the winter menu, which was a 3 course fixed price menu. We are both gluten free but there was such a great choice. We had looked at the gluten free menu on line before we booked and totally fell in love with the most wonderful dessert of french toast with cinnamon and clotted cream ice cream. This was going to be a real treat. When we ordered our food, we noted that dessert was not on the menu. But it was just no trouble. I cannot thank Paul Dodd enough for just working in the kitchen to prepare this dessert ‘off pisté’ so that we were not disappointed. Thank you so much Paul. This was the kindest thing we have ever experienced in a restaurant. You made our day!! All the staff were wonderful and the ambience in the upstairs room was just well spaced and calm. Lovely lovely meal out. Thank you ALL so much. We will be back - hopefully for our french toast 😂

We had a fantastic experience here! The staff are super friendly and attentive and the food is top notch, posh pub grub. We have been here before but due to it being New year we thought we’d splash out a little. We went for starter, main and desert, well I did anyway as I was driving after and wasn’t drinking, so the desert was my treat, and what a treat it was. The squid starter was delicious, as was the rare bit and goats cheese. The oysters were like none I’ve ever had, ok so I cheated and went for the fried ones, but I had a raw one also and that was amazing too. I had the Pollock hot dog, which was a little confusing as there was no sausages involved, we were told this before we ordered but one person had their heart set on a hot dog 😂 My desert though… omg… I had the choc orange Crème Brûlée and it was heavenly, the cookies were slightly surplus but I requirement, especially after everything else I’d eaten and I would have been happy with just the pot of joy 🤩 The guy serving us was attentive and helpful, especially considering he had such a long shift ahead of him. The whole thing was spot on! Also they are super dog friendly, which is nice for somewhere slightly upmarket.

Venue was busy but I put my children on a table while my wife took my elderly mother to toilet, while I got some drinks from the bar. My children were asked to move quite rudely by what I assume was the front of house and then we were forced to sit outside in the rain and cold with my 87 year old mother while the table stayed bare. Front of house could see her out there and simply ignored. Think it’s quite disgusting to ignore this as this is still classed as a public house and should be irrelevant if having food or drink. Seem to care more about dogs than the elderly

We both had the winter three course meal and it was excellent. Lovely staff, great view. Our dogs were welcomed and also had a great time. I’d thoroughly recommend.

Absolutely lovely place to eat ! Very much in the style of pub food, but very very nice pub food 👍. Location is lovely and when the veranda doors are open it’s super !

The gluten free menu was extensive and reminded me of the dining experience from pre ceoliac diagnosis. Will be retuning every time we are down in the west country.
