We were given vouchers for afternoon tea for two and had high expectations. An email was sent a couple of days prior (and we also called 1.5 hours before our visit) to inform the restaurant of our vegetarian (no eggs) dietary requirements. On arrival, we reminded them of our dietary needs as per the telephone conversation and they acknowledged the prior communication and informed that they would speak to the chef as a lot of items had eggs. The waiter came over and said that the food would take time as they were trying to accommodate. This was very disappointing as the restaurant should have been prepared for any customer that communicates dietary requirements. The food took 40 minutes, and when it arrived, we noticed we received fewer sandwiches and cakes than other tables. It seems quite a few items were simply omitted because they weren’t suitable, with no attempt to offer alternatives. The sandwiches were basic — honestly, I’ve had better from supermarkets. The cakes were fine, but nothing special, and not what I’d expect from a restaurant of this calibre and ownership. Overall, disappointing — both in the quality of the food and the lack of professionalism in addressing our dietary requirements. A courtesy reply to our email or some better preparation would have made a big difference.

The only positive thing about this place is that we had a free voucher!! The food is unbelievably poor. The minuscule wings are smothered in a horrible bottled sauce. Then the chicken Milanese is a frozen Iceland chicken strip cut in half on a bed of watery tomato unseasoned penne. Then Iceland strikes again with a slap of frozen cheesecake. All washed down with a cheap , warm bottle of Prosecco. Certainly will not be returning. Thanks Marco Pierre

The food was terrible. There is very little choice and if you have any allergies this isn’t for you! It may not even be for you if you don’t! There was only 4 starters, 6 mains and 4 puddings. I took this as a good sign as this usually means things are done well. But it was cheap food, served with little attention to detail. Who gives you chicken wings and ribs without something to clean yourself up with? Who seasons everything with so much salt? What is the point in it being on the table when it’s already been drown in it? No option to eat any of your 5 a day fruit and veg! One tiny salad as extra! Over priced, over seasoned, underwhelmed!

My review is based on the afternoon tea experience I had on the 5th April 2025 (this was booked as an afternoon teabfor 2 experience gift). Firstly, when we arrived we were asked to wait in the lounge area and were eventually seated after 20 mins from our reservation time. After being seating, in the "afternoon tea area" we sat there for a good 10 mins before I managed to get the attention of one of the two servers to ask if we could at least order a drink (a glass of water). Water was fine. EVentually we were asked what kind of tea we would like and a platter of food consisting of very sad looking little sandwiches, cakes, and scones arrived. Okay, so the tea pot was over filled with water, so when we poured the tea it went everywhere (over the table as well as in the cup), and was weak (it was a giant teapot with only 2 teabags). The sandwiches were disgusting, there was literally no cream cheese in the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, I believe one sandwich was supposed to be beef but the beef was very pale and had a strange consistency and taste and the bread tasted cheap. We each had 3 little cakes (chocolate, carrot and lemon cheese cake), the chocolate cake was okay, the carrot cake was dry and tasteless and the lemon cheese cake was still frozen, and the scones were dry. When I have previously had afternoon tea, normally there is a menu on the table or the server explains what is on offer, but we were given no information what so ever, also nobody came up once to ask if everything was okay. Terrible food and terrible service!

Don’t waste your time / money: Came in with no expectation after looking at reviews but sadly this bad expectation was met and more: - pro - lovely service altho few basic hospitality things missed e.g having to ask a couple of times for a drink - con - weird atmosphere, if you are here on a voucher you are placed in a specific corner of the restaurant separate to others and vibe is strange. Mix of voucher people and hotel food people creates a weird mix with dead atmosphere - con - food is awful and Wetherspoons quality. - con - outside of restaurant looks dirty and marco sign not fully working… basic stuff creates a bad entry Evident marco has never stepped foot in this restaurant they’ve simply paid for the name.

Marco has priced this very sensibly at just £21.95 or £23.95 with a glass of Prosecco. Tea is served in a section of the hotel bar and is spaced enough for quiet conversation. The wary might notice the dog-eared drinks menu or the sticky table top, but most will not notice and be quite happy. The food is served on a smart platter made of slate and looks pretty. Unfortunately the finger sandwiches are nearly tasteless and the bread used adds nothing good. The 3 slices of cake are quite nice as are the Macaroons. The scenes were ok. For the price, not a bad deal, but there is no wow factor.

This has never been my experience before when having afternoon tea - choices are always discussed at the table. Had to give one star as no option to give a minus. My husbands food, ribs at an extra cost of £10.95, was terrible very tough and needed a knife and folk to eat them. My food was average at best, spaghetti bolognaise, no Parmesan cheese bought to the table to grate over. I ordered a portion of garlic focaccia bread to eat along side my spaghetti, this came when I had almost finished my meal so I refused it. The bread was actually a pitta bread with garlic butter and pricked with a folk. We ate at 5pm and there was another table of 3 and one of 2. If the attitude and shocking service was like this at the beginning of the night when it was quiet, what on earth is it like later on when it gets busy? We had booked a meal deal when booking a visit to the Shard. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young waitress who was very helpful. A male waiter took over and straight away his attitude was off, he treated us like dirt and we felt like we were an inconvenience and not customers. We were expecting a culinary experience being a well known and respected chefs restaurant but all we got was a bitter taste. Will not give our custom to any of Marcos restaurants again. A family member purchased an afternoon tea, for my birthday, at Marco Pierre White Italian Restaurant, near London Bridge. After being cheerfully welcomed, we were thrown into a corner with three other couples, upstairs, away from the glitzy restaurant area - no thought of accessibility. - First impressions - no tablecloths and paper napkins, scratched, sticky tables. - No engagement from the staff, no water served, no requests about allergies or preference of bread or any efforts to make us welcome or looked after. - Ref the menu, no “Tea Pigs”, just cheapest “builders tea” in a single pot; no hot water to even top up. - Sandwiches were “passable”; I would say supermarket sandwich pack standard; cakes ok. Overall a poor experience, which after speaking to my fellow “afternoon tea” couples, we considered this a poor value for money and a negative impact on the Marco Pierre White name. Hence the low score given in this review, on all counts. Not a nice “Birthday experience “.

Dear Marco Pierre White’s New York Italian Team, I am writing to formally express my disappointment with a recent dining experience at your restaurant in London Bridge. I received a voucher for a three-course meal with bubbles as a gift for my 40th birthday and was looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations due to poor service and a lack of communication. We arrived a few minutes late due to train issues and were shown to the bar, where we were told we would be called when a table became available. While waiting, we were expected to purchase our own drinks and were not offered the complimentary glass of bubbles included with our voucher. After a 20 minute wait, we were finally seated - despite having a reservation for 7:30pm and a time limit requiring us to vacate the table by 9:10pm. Once seated, we ordered our three courses and, after enjoying our glass of bubbles, decided to order a bottle of wine while awaiting our starters. However, nearly an hour passed with no sign of our food. When we enquired with the waiter, we were not given any explanation for the delay. Another 15-20 minutes later, we were served our main courses - without ever having received our starters. The staff appeared confused when we pointed this out, and at no point did we receive an apology. To make matters worse, when we requested to speak to a manager about the situation, we were informed that they had already left for the evening. By this point, it was after 9:30pm, and we were left feeling frustrated, hungry, and deeply disappointed by the lack of service and professionalism. While this meal was purchased as a gift, it was still a paid experience, and the standard of service we received was unacceptable. Given the circumstances, we informed the waiter that we would not be paying for our bottle of wine and expected our voucher to be extended. However, after further consideration, we have decided that we do not wish to use this voucher at your restaurant. We will be contacting Buyagift to request an alternative experience, as this visit has completely tainted our expectations of your establishment. I would appreciate a response addressing these concerns and an acknowledgment of the poor service we received. I look forward to your reply. Kelly Ahearn

We went either friends for afternoon tea. We both had vouchers and bought them In Octobrr. I phoned the restaurant to ensure we could sit together. When we arrived we were told that our reservation was on the computer but not our friend's. The man on the first was not the brightest spark and it took over 15 minutes for him to eventually find the booking. I don't eat ham ir cheese and had phoned through during the week to tell them and was told not to worry just tell them when you arrive. We were taken to our table and sat there for about 15 minutes before anyone emerged to serve us. I explained about no ham or cheese and he said he would tell the kitchen. Very little choice of tea unlike most other places we have visited. and . One of our friends doesn't drink tea and had a decaf coffee. When my sandwiches came out there was cream cheese on 2 if the 4 fingers. I told the waiter that I had said no cheese and he said " but it is cream cheese " I asked if they had any egg but was told they don't fo egg. He suggested I had a plain sandwich with ko filling. I told him perhaps I could have 2 salmon instead of the one. When he came back he brought 2 salmon fingers, a processed meat one (I think it was beef) snd a cucumber one. There was no butter on any if them and they were just dry. There was one tiny macaroni per person and then 3 slices of cake each, Carrott ( so sugary it was vile) , achovolate walnut and a mousse cake which we didn't know what it was supposed to be. Our friend asked for another coffee but was told it would be charged for as only tea came with more than one cup. The whole experience was absolutely awful and would advise people not to think you are going to get a decent tea there. Do disappointing!

Went here with my family as a pre-theatre meal at around 5:30. Waited in the lobby area for about five minutes before we were even seated, there were virtually no staff members around. It then took them another ten minutes to take our drinks order, and we had to remind the waiters of our drinks twice before they brought them over. When they finally arrived, the wine was corked and tasted sour, so had to be changed. When the waiter eventually appeared again to order our food, we were told that the whole fixed menu was no longer available, so we had to then spend time finding another dish. Each time the waiters went away from the table, we wouldn’t see them again for 5-10 minutes. We waited a further 30 minutes for our dinner, which was very average. It was not a proper ‘dining experience’, no one came to check the food was okay or if we needed anything else as you normally get in a restaurant - the staff were totally absent until you called them over, and that’s if they happened to even be in the restaurant as they seemed to be spending more time on the bar guests.

Really wouldn’t recommend at all, the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had! We arrived for our booking five minutes before our reservation and were asked to wait in the lobby area which is fine. However, it got to just under fifteen minutes after our booking and we still hadn’t been seated or given any from or explanation as to what was going on. After finally being seated our menu was covered in tea stains which isn’t great but not the end of the world. There were a few dirty tables around so most likely this place is understaffed which I fully understand can be hard but for the price point it’s not fair on the customers or staff, The atmosphere is totally lacking as well. I had to ask after a further fifteen minutes of absolutely no service if we could have our drinks and some water which the waiter was happy to do and shortly after our afternoon tea arrived. The food was abysmal. The sandwiches were dry and had clearly been sat out for a while, the cakes were subpar and nothing different from ones you’d find at a supermarket, and the scones were doughy on the inside but rock solid on the outside so i couldn’t even finish mine. The Prosecco was probably the only good part about this whole experience. The worst thing of all though was the absolute state of the teapot my tea was served in. It was chipped and filthy, I had to ask for another one but that was also dirty too so I gave up on the tea entirely. The service is completely nonexistent too, no one asked how our food was and there wasn’t even a host at the door to greet us! Needs a complete overhaul and rebrand. Please please save your money and go somewhere else this place is not worth it at all! Marco Pierre White, you need to get this sorted asap. Came here for dinner on a Thursday as part of the 50% off deal they were running in January. The food and drinks were average, but the atmosphere was really weird- as others have mentioned its in a tiny dimly lit room with far too many tables crowded in to the side and the rest of what I assume is the restaurant was empty. The service was very slow and they would go missing for long periods of time as they were more focused on setting up breakfast than dealing with dinner service. The real issue was that once we had finished our mains we spotted multiple mice running around the room. We flagged down a waitress to tell them and the response was "oh... We'll get something to get them out." Then she walked away. No apology and she didnt seem that shocked. We were asked if we wanted to move tables after seeing even more mice running around but at that point the damage was done and our meal was almost over. We eventually flagged down a team leader and were begrudgingly offered 2 drinks on the house to compensate. I honestly have no idea how this place has a 5 health rating when they're this casual about vermin running around the main dining room. I definitely wont be going back.

Truth is, most visitors are having a free meal with the voucher, but if you had paid full price you’d feel ripped off. The atmosphere is weird, you’re squeezed into a small room full of tables with so little space between each. The tables have candles which have completely burnt out but not been replaced nor removed and the salt & pepper mills turned out to be salt & salt. As for service, the staff are friendly, however there were long delays. We waited more than 30 minutes between them collecting our starter and us receiving our mains. The table that arrived 15 minutes after us received their mains before we did. We ordered 2 small glasses of wine, and were charged for 2 large glasses instead. Lastly, the food is acceptable for a Wetherspoons. We had read up on the reviews so safe to say our expectations were low. The starters were nice, we had the nachos and ribs, which were tender, though the nachos lacked salsa. For mains we had the bolognese and steak. The steak comes with a surcharge of £11, but what arrives is about the size of 2 fingers. It was comical to be paying £11 extra for a steak so small. To be paying extra the steak needed to be at least double the size to be worth it in my opinion. The deserts were very bland, the tiramisu was devoid of coffee, the brownie was also small. Left hungry. This hotel has payed Marco to put his name on it and I assure you he has no further involvement. We had (on top of what was paid for) 2 glasses of wine and the steak, and had to pay an extra 30 pounds including service.

For a Marco restaurant this is not the standard I would expect. I got a voucher for dinner for two with bubbly as a birthday present. The food was nice but I would expect better quality, and I would expect an italian restuarant to provide garlic oil which they did not! Lack of vegetarian options with the set menu. Though we were seated promptly and there was no misunderstandings with the voucher, the time taken to bring out the main was too long. Staff were friendly but quite slow. Was an OK meal out with a gift voucher but I would not come here and pay full price on a normal day, especially with other italian restaurants nearby.

Came for afternoon tea, would have left if it wasent free Cakes and prosecco were nice, sandwiches ok service was awful- were left waiting in the hotel lobby past our booking time, with no one communication what was happening. The table next to us were rudely asked "what do you want?" No one checked in to see if the food was OK and no service/ no one around once the food/ tea was served. Would not recommend coming here/ using a voucher for afternoon tea here.

Wouldn't bother. Food was average. Service was average to inattentive. Atmosphere was very lacking - sitting in a back room of the hotel. My partner was excited to try a Marco Pierre White restaurant but this is not that.

I went there today for afternoon tea and it was not as described, and the food was average. They advertised Teapigs tea, which I love and was presented with Twinnings. They advertised Laurent Perrier, what I was served was a standard house glass of Prosecco. They might want to update their menu to reflect what is actually being served.

The atmosphere was really nice but the service was terrible and the food was way too expensive. There was so little on the goat cheese pizza that I almost got a magnifying glass. The other dishes weren't anything special either and were definitely way too expensive. The drinks were very tasty but also way too expensive. We were very disappointed with the service and in the end I ordered at the bar myself because no one came to our table. No recommendation! There are much better ones nearby!

We had a voucher and came with extremely low expectations based on the reviews and ratings, but it wasn’t as bad as we thought! On arrival, the building looked shabby and run down. We were told to go and sit in the lobby and that someone would come to bring us to our table. We waited a while and saw other people getting frustrated waiting too. I wouldn’t have minded so much if someone had communicated properly to us (we and others didn’t understand why we were waiting or how long for). We asked multiple staff what was happening and didn’t get much clarity. It was a missed opportunity to offer us a drinks menu and get us something while we were waiting. The dining area was overly lit and cold with the breeze from the entrance doors. There was no music. There was 0 atmosphere except from the lovely company I had. I wouldn’t recommend for a romantic meal. The food was mediocre overall. The menu wasn’t interesting as others have said, but if you have low expectations as we did, you may find it enjoyable! I reckon you need to be wise with what you order. We got the ribs and chicken wings to start and they were actually tasty. We got burgers for mains. They were fine - poor-quality bland beef that could’ve passed as plant-based, but as I said we had low expectations so I did enjoy it. We got brownie for dessert and it was ok - I’ve had better from a high street supermarket but it wasn’t bad. The sides were overpriced so we didn’t order any, and our three-course meal was sufficient anyway. The vegetarian options didn’t look great. We were content with the waiting times between meals. The service was fine once we were seated. Nice to have a glass of Prosecco included in the voucher. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend to buy a voucher here and certainly not to pay full price. I would say it’s bad rep for a restaurant located in a 4* Mercure hotel. That said, if you are stuck with a voucher, it really wasn’t that bad if you go in not expecting greatness. I wouldn’t have been happy to pay for it and wouldn’t return, but considering we didn’t pay a penny we did enjoy ourselves and it filled our bellies. I’ve rated it as 2*/“ok” but it’s all relative and if you’re booked in already you can make the most of it. It’s not the worst meal you’ll ever have.

Booked a Christmas dinner for my friends. Loads of signs out front advertising their Xmas offering. Sat down and the waitress denied they had a Xmas menu and only half their normal menu was even available. When I showed her their website she disappeared for a bit then claimed the menu was live for next week onwards as apparently 13th Dec is too early for a festive menu!? By then everywhere else in the area was heaving so our lovely Christmas dinner was ruined by your shoddy organisation.

If I could give it zero stars I would!!! I have complained to the restaurant and heard nothing back for 4 weeks now! We arrived at the restaurant on time on the 9th November and I told the host my name and that we were here for afternoon tea. He confirmed this and told us to wait in the hotel lobby and that someone would be over to seat us shortly. After waiting about 15 minutes, no one had come over to us. At this point my brother spoke to your host to ask if the table was ready, the host then told us he needed to see the voucher I had used to book the afternoon tea with. We explained that we didn’t have the voucher as we did not know we needed to bring it with us. He explained that he could not seat us without a voucher. To cut a very long story short (and after a lot of back and forth conversations with the host that were getting us nowhere), we had to call our grandma who had bought the voucher for us to see if she still had the code. Fortunately she was able to read us the code over the phone which we told the host, and then he was able to seat us. This was about 3:15pm (45 minutes after we should have been seated). We were taken to a table in a nearly empty restaurant, which was a huge disappointment as I was told I couldn’t extend my booking by another person as you were fully booked. Only one other table were seated whilst we were there, so my request for an extra person could have been accommodated. A glass of Prosecco (included in the voucher) was bought over to us followed by the afternoon tea. I could immediately tell that one of them was not vegetarian. I told the waitress that one of them should have been vegetarian and I had called in the week prior to confirm this. She just responded with “Really?”, as though I was in the wrong. She did take the afternoon tea away and bought us another one, which was vegetarian. The food was disappointing, very thin and soggy bread. The vegetarian sandwiches were cream cheese and cucumber, and then two fingers of a guacamole sandwich which I found bizarre. The cakes were dull and the scones were tiny. I had a pot of tea that dribbled all over the table when it was poured. As someone that works in this industry, and is responsible for serving afternoon teas, I found the whole service to be incredibly poor. When our tea was placed on the table there was no explanation of what was in the sandwiches or what the cakes were, and no one came to check on us to see how we were finding things. In all honesty, we couldn’t wait to leave as we were made to feel as though we were a nuisance, what with the voucher incident at the start and then sending it back because the dietary requirements were wrong. I am not one to complain, but after having received such poor service and poor quality food I feel I have no choice but to say something. It is all the more disappointing because this was bought as a gift and was something we were really looking forward to.

Had afternoon tea after being given a voucher. Based in a hotel, tucked away in an unpromising area between Waterloo and London Bridge Station. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. There were a few other people there but not very busy. The service was discreet but friendly. The food was reasonable with the selection of cakes the best part. The sandwiches were a disappointment though, they were uninspiring and could easily come out of a supermarket sandwich pack.

Surprised that Marco Pierre's name is registered to this restaurant. The experience was so bad it was funny. Myself and my wife were gifted the Fawlty towers experience but couldn't get a booking so we exchanged that voucher for this. We both sat in the restaurant thinking we were getting the Fawlty towers experience without the comedy. From the first moment, when we approached the maitre d', it went from bad to worse. He looked unprofessional in his skin tight short jeans and trainers and struggled with English. We were 15 minutes early to our booked time but other customers who arrived after us and had later time booked were seated before us. We had to order our starter main and after all at once. We weren't offered any water, despite glasses on the table. No one asked if what we were served was ok. Plates were still on the table when the next course arrived . There's more to say, but you get the drift. We've been to other Marco Pierre signed restaurants , and had great experiences and the staff were dressed professionally, professional service etc, not here. If you want a funny experience without comedy by all means go here , if not, avoid at all costs. PS... The bar in the Mercure hotel, in which the restaurant is situated was just as bad. I stood at the bar for an absolute age, no one was serving. A member of staff from the hotel, came out from the back and was making coffee. I was asked what I would like, but I said, finish what you're doing as I felt it was a customers drink. They finished making the drink and went away, and never came back

I purchased the afternoon tea for a family member and I was honestly appalled. The setting is incredibly uncomfortable and awkward, with a small space dedicated to the afternoon teas. Seats are also way too close to each other. The food is mediocre for the price and the quality is quite poor in certain aspects e.g the scones were dry and and the sandwich’s were thin with barely any filling. To make matters worse the service was terribly poor, they spoke very bad English, the cutlery was dirty and we were constantly served pots of cold tea. If your looking for a good afternoon tea experience please look elsewhere. If I could get a refund I would!

The food was good but my word, the staff.. the place had 3 members of staff; one on the door taking the new guests to their tables, second member of staff was taking orders/serving drinks and the third member was just running around confused. It was as though they just didn’t know what they were doing, at all. Generally felt really bad for them as they were polite, but their lack of understanding ruined it for all the guests in the restaurant. When we arrived we waited 20 mins to be seated, our meal from start to finish was over 3 hours long. Other guests were leaving due to trains to catch. A family hadn’t even received one of their main dishes and left before the dessert. The food was great and the wine was lovely, Marco I would really look into the lack of staffing/training at your restaurant as this will effect people returning.

⭐⭐ is what I give this place. We visited this place for high tea, but the experience fell flat right from the start. Despite having a reservation, we were left standing around for over 15 minutes before anyone seated us. The service itself didn’t improve much from there. The staff seemed more like fast-food chain employees than attentive high tea servers. Polite, yes, but not exactly the professional, polished experience you'd hope for. As for the food, the sandwiches and scones were just okay – passable but nothing special. But the cakes and sweets? Downright dreadful. They tasted like they’d come straight from Aldi’s bargain shelf, lacking any freshness or quality. For the price, we expected a lot more effort and a lot less grocery-store vibe. We didn't even bother eating everything. For a place of this caliber, we expected much higher quality. Not worth the price for what we got.

Then when I asked for extra meatballs he was making up excuses as to why he couldn’t put more because it was clear he was salty that he didn’t get his precious wrap for lunch. When I’ve done so countless times with no problem. Just pathetic. It’s clear NEW Proper and professional staff need to be hired.

I recently had the pleasure of being served by John (The Bald😇 ) at Pret Café, and I must say, he is the pinnacle of professionalism and respect. From the moment I walked in, John made me feel welcome with his warm demeanor and attentive service. He embodies the very essence of what excellent customer service should be. It's clear that John represents Pret Café in the best way possible, setting a high standard for customer service. His dedication to his work and genuine care for the customers are reasons I will definitely return to this café. John is a true asset to Pret Café, and employees like him are what make customers feel valued and eager to come back.
