The afternoon tea was standard nothing special for the name. The sandwich was dry and small portions, sweet were standard box items from supermarkets

I visited this place with my husband for afternoon tea as we had a gift voucher for this place. The ambiance was alright , nothing too extraordinary. Staff was courteous and service really good. In the beginning, we were served a glass of proseco, which was refreshing. For afternoon tea, we had ginger peppermint tea and english breakfast tea. Tea was nicely brewed. The refreshments accompanying tea were disappointing. Since we are vegetarian, we were served cucumber tomato and cucumber cheese finger sandwiches, both of which were underwhelming . The selection and taste of cakes was ordinary. Carrot cake was dry . Cheesecake and chocolate cake were okay. Scones were nice and warm . All in all, it was an okayish experience.

The guy that greeted us was friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and good value. Unfortunately the service was not so great... Very slow waited nearly a hour for starters... Luckily we was in no rush. Constantly having to ask for cutlery to use for our food... At the dessert we used a fork from another table and a tea spoon as couldn't get waitress attention. Waitress was okay but could have been a bit more friendly.. Steak was a bit grizzly... Not worth paying extra for it.

Honestly, only came here as we had a voucher for 3 course meal. It's like an overpriced smaller portioned, frankie & benny. While the servers themselves are lovely. It's a slow service for subpar food.

Came here for dinner on a Thursday as part of the 50% off deal they were running in January. The food and drinks were average, but the atmosphere was really weird- as others have mentioned its in a tiny dimly lit room with far too many tables crowded in to the side and the rest of what I assume is the restaurant was empty. The service was very slow and they would go missing for long periods of time as they were more focused on setting up breakfast than dealing with dinner service. The real issue was that once we had finished our mains we spotted multiple mice running around the room. We flagged down a waitress to tell them and the response was "oh... We'll get something to get them out." Then she walked away. No apology and she didnt seem that shocked. We were asked if we wanted to move tables after seeing even more mice running around but at that point the damage was done and our meal was almost over. We eventually flagged down a team leader and were begrudgingly offered 2 drinks on the house to compensate. I honestly have no idea how this place has a 5 health rating when they're this casual about vermin running around the main dining room. I definitely wont be going back.

Truth is, most visitors are having a free meal with the voucher, but if you had paid full price you’d feel ripped off. The atmosphere is weird, you’re squeezed into a small room full of tables with so little space between each. The tables have candles which have completely burnt out but not been replaced nor removed and the salt & pepper mills turned out to be salt & salt. As for service, the staff are friendly, however there were long delays. We waited more than 30 minutes between them collecting our starter and us receiving our mains. The table that arrived 15 minutes after us received their mains before we did. We ordered 2 small glasses of wine, and were charged for 2 large glasses instead. Lastly, the food is acceptable for a Wetherspoons. We had read up on the reviews so safe to say our expectations were low. The starters were nice, we had the nachos and ribs, which were tender, though the nachos lacked salsa. For mains we had the bolognese and steak. The steak comes with a surcharge of £11, but what arrives is about the size of 2 fingers. It was comical to be paying £11 extra for a steak so small. To be paying extra the steak needed to be at least double the size to be worth it in my opinion. The deserts were very bland, the tiramisu was devoid of coffee, the brownie was also small. Left hungry. This hotel has payed Marco to put his name on it and I assure you he has no further involvement. We had (on top of what was paid for) 2 glasses of wine and the steak, and had to pay an extra 30 pounds including service.

For a Marco restaurant this is not the standard I would expect. I got a voucher for dinner for two with bubbly as a birthday present. The food was nice but I would expect better quality, and I would expect an italian restuarant to provide garlic oil which they did not! Lack of vegetarian options with the set menu. Though we were seated promptly and there was no misunderstandings with the voucher, the time taken to bring out the main was too long. Staff were friendly but quite slow. Was an OK meal out with a gift voucher but I would not come here and pay full price on a normal day, especially with other italian restaurants nearby.

I went there today for afternoon tea and it was not as described, and the food was average. They advertised Teapigs tea, which I love and was presented with Twinnings. They advertised Laurent Perrier, what I was served was a standard house glass of Prosecco. They might want to update their menu to reflect what is actually being served.

We were very disappointed with the service and in the end I ordered at the bar myself because no one came to our table. No recommendation! There are much better ones nearby!

We had a voucher and came with extremely low expectations based on the reviews and ratings, but it wasn’t as bad as we thought! On arrival, the building looked shabby and run down. We were told to go and sit in the lobby and that someone would come to bring us to our table. We waited a while and saw other people getting frustrated waiting too. I wouldn’t have minded so much if someone had communicated properly to us (we and others didn’t understand why we were waiting or how long for). We asked multiple staff what was happening and didn’t get much clarity. It was a missed opportunity to offer us a drinks menu and get us something while we were waiting. The dining area was overly lit and cold with the breeze from the entrance doors. There was no music. There was 0 atmosphere except from the lovely company I had. I wouldn’t recommend for a romantic meal. The food was mediocre overall. The menu wasn’t interesting as others have said, but if you have low expectations as we did, you may find it enjoyable! I reckon you need to be wise with what you order. We got the ribs and chicken wings to start and they were actually tasty. We got burgers for mains. They were fine - poor-quality bland beef that could’ve passed as plant-based, but as I said we had low expectations so I did enjoy it. We got brownie for dessert and it was ok - I’ve had better from a high street supermarket but it wasn’t bad. The sides were overpriced so we didn’t order any, and our three-course meal was sufficient anyway. The vegetarian options didn’t look great. We were content with the waiting times between meals. The service was fine once we were seated. Nice to have a glass of Prosecco included in the voucher. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend to buy a voucher here and certainly not to pay full price. I would say it’s bad rep for a restaurant located in a 4* Mercure hotel. That said, if you are stuck with a voucher, it really wasn’t that bad if you go in not expecting greatness. I wouldn’t have been happy to pay for it and wouldn’t return, but considering we didn’t pay a penny we did enjoy ourselves and it filled our bellies. I’ve rated it as 2*/“ok” but it’s all relative and if you’re booked in already you can make the most of it. It’s not the worst meal you’ll ever have.

Booked a Christmas dinner for my friends. Loads of signs out front advertising their Xmas offering. Sat down and the waitress denied they had a Xmas menu and only half their normal menu was even available. When I showed her their website she disappeared for a bit then claimed the menu was live for next week onwards as apparently 13th Dec is too early for a festive menu!? By then everywhere else in the area was heaving so our lovely Christmas dinner was ruined by your shoddy organisation.

If I could give it zero stars I would!!! I have complained to the restaurant and heard nothing back for 4 weeks now! We arrived at the restaurant on time on the 9th November and I told the host my name and that we were here for afternoon tea. He confirmed this and told us to wait in the hotel lobby and that someone would be over to seat us shortly. After waiting about 15 minutes, no one had come over to us. At this point my brother spoke to your host to ask if the table was ready, the host then told us he needed to see the voucher I had used to book the afternoon tea with. We explained that we didn’t have the voucher as we did not know we needed to bring it with us. He explained that he could not seat us without a voucher. To cut a very long story short (and after a lot of back and forth conversations with the host that were getting us nowhere), we had to call our grandma who had bought the voucher for us to see if she still had the code. Fortunately she was able to read us the code over the phone which we told the host, and then he was able to seat us. This was about 3:15pm (45 minutes after we should have been seated). We were taken to a table in a nearly empty restaurant, which was a huge disappointment as I was told I couldn’t extend my booking by another person as you were fully booked. Only one other table were seated whilst we were there, so my request for an extra person could have been accommodated. A glass of Prosecco (included in the voucher) was bought over to us followed by the afternoon tea. I could immediately tell that one of them was not vegetarian. I told the waitress that one of them should have been vegetarian and I had called in the week prior to confirm this. She just responded with “Really?”, as though I was in the wrong. She did take the afternoon tea away and bought us another one, which was vegetarian. The food was disappointing, very thin and soggy bread. The vegetarian sandwiches were cream cheese and cucumber, and then two fingers of a guacamole sandwich which I found bizarre. The cakes were dull and the scones were tiny. I had a pot of tea that dribbled all over the table when it was poured. As someone that works in this industry, and is responsible for serving afternoon teas, I found the whole service to be incredibly poor. When our tea was placed on the table there was no explanation of what was in the sandwiches or what the cakes were, and no one came to check on us to see how we were finding things. In all honesty, we couldn’t wait to leave as we were made to feel as though we were a nuisance, what with the voucher incident at the start and then sending it back because the dietary requirements were wrong. I am not one to complain, but after having received such poor service and poor quality food I feel I have no choice but to say something. It is all the more disappointing because this was bought as a gift and was something we were really looking forward to.

Surprised that Marco Pierre's name is registered to this restaurant. The experience was so bad it was funny. Myself and my wife were gifted the Fawlty towers experience but couldn't get a booking so we exchanged that voucher for this. We both sat in the restaurant thinking we were getting the Fawlty towers experience without the comedy. From the first moment, when we approached the maitre d', it went from bad to worse. He looked unprofessional in his skin tight short jeans and trainers and struggled with English. We were 15 minutes early to our booked time but other customers who arrived after us and had later time booked were seated before us. We had to order our starter main and after all at once. We weren't offered any water, despite glasses on the table. No one asked if what we were served was ok. Plates were still on the table when the next course arrived . There's more to say, but you get the drift. We've been to other Marco Pierre signed restaurants , and had great experiences and the staff were dressed professionally, professional service etc, not here. If you want a funny experience without comedy by all means go here , if not, avoid at all costs. PS... The bar in the Mercure hotel, in which the restaurant is situated was just as bad. I stood at the bar for an absolute age, no one was serving. A member of staff from the hotel, came out from the back and was making coffee. I was asked what I would like, but I said, finish what you're doing as I felt it was a customers drink. They finished making the drink and went away, and never came back

Had afternoon tea after being given a voucher. Based in a hotel, tucked away in an unpromising area between Waterloo and London Bridge Station. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. There were a few other people there but not very busy. The service was discreet but friendly. The food was reasonable with the selection of cakes the best part. The sandwiches were a disappointment though, they were uninspiring and could easily come out of a supermarket sandwich pack.

I purchased the afternoon tea for a family member and I was honestly appalled. The setting is incredibly uncomfortable and awkward, with a small space dedicated to the afternoon teas. Seats are also way too close to each other. The food is mediocre for the price and the quality is quite poor in certain aspects e.g the scones were dry and and the sandwich’s were thin with barely any filling. To make matters worse the service was terribly poor, they spoke very bad English, the cutlery was dirty and we were constantly served pots of cold tea. It was as though they just didn’t know what they were doing, at all. Generally felt really bad for them as they were polite, but their lack of understanding ruined it for all the guests in the restaurant. When we arrived we waited 20 mins to be seated, our meal from start to finish was over 3 hours long. Other guests were leaving due to trains to catch. A family hadn’t even received one of their main dishes and left before the dessert. The food was great and the wine was lovely, Marco I would really look into the lack of staffing/training at your restaurant as this will effect people returning.

⭐⭐ is what I give this place. We visited this place for high tea, but the experience fell flat right from the start. Despite having a reservation, we were left standing around for over 15 minutes before anyone seated us. The service itself didn’t improve much from there. The staff seemed more like fast-food chain employees than attentive high tea servers. Polite, yes, but not exactly the professional, polished experience you'd hope for. As for the food, the sandwiches and scones were just okay – passable but nothing special. But the cakes and sweets? Downright dreadful. They tasted like they’d come straight from Aldi’s bargain shelf, lacking any freshness or quality. For the price, we expected a lot more effort and a lot less grocery-store vibe. We didn't even bother eating everything. For a place of this caliber, we expected much higher quality. Not worth the price for what we got.

There a 2 pasta dishes, spaghetti Bolognese, and pomodoro, both mediocre and definitely not in a NY style marinara. The burger was so overdone it was inedible. On the plus side, the wings and nachos were good, but that is Tex Mex and doesn't belong in a NY Italian. I have done many of these experiences over the years, Fifteen, Raymond Blanc, lots of others, all great food and atmosphere. I wish I could have reviewed the food in this restaurant but they didn’t seem to have any. We arrived on a Monday night and had chosen the hotel due to the restaurant as we were fans of Marco. A waiter took us to a table and then came back with the menus. He advised us that nothing was available from the seasonal specials side of the menu and that the set meal options on the menu were also unavailable but it was steak night and handed us another menu with 5 items on it. He then advised only two of those items were available. Whilst we were trying to decide between the two items of food available we tried to order a bottle of red wine but only the two most expensive bottles were available. At this point we gave up and left. The waiter didn’t seem interested or concerned. I understand that restaurants can run out of dishes when they are busy but we were the only people in the restaurant early in the evening. So many people sending their food back or not getting what they had ordered. All you could hear was people complaining to other dinners about the lack of service and poor quality of food. We ordered a bottle of wine, took to end of main meal to receive and then it was 2 glasses. 1st course was fine, second course ordered avocado Caesar salad, less than a 1/4 of avocado in it. Staff brought steak knife after my partner had finished his main meal. Neither of us ate the dessert as not enjoying. Asked for bill did not arrive, had to find staff to pay, then had to query the bill, which was eventually amended. I have been to Marco Pierre Whites in the City before and was great. However I would not recommend the London bridge restaurant. If I could have put less than 1 star in rating I would have. There was nothing enjoyable about this visit. Yes, we did seem to get taken to a slightly different area of the restaurant (the rest of the restaurant was empty) but it was fine, could do with some background music. But overall we came out happy, food was good, fizz was acceptable! Tip...order more drinks when they take the food order! Saves you getting hold of them again...they did look busy! ;)

Went here with a 3 course dinner and fizz on a buyagift voucher . Waited an hour for our table . Fizz was eventually offered . Food was good but the service was slow and we were not offered any water or a drinks menu at any time. Had to ask for this and was met with a lack of service which one would expect. Would not go there again.

If you’re planning to buy someone a gift voucher here please don’t do it for their sake and yours. Service is average, they take you to a seperate dilapidated area with all the other voucher users. Food can be made better at home - tastes reheated. Had a look at the menu and it’s about £20 cheaper to buy it without the voucher anyway. EDIT: Perfect example of the type of service you will experience below; a copy and paste response and didn’t even take the time to change the name, great work guys. Avoid at all costs.

What a disaster. Avoid this place if you are looking for a nice night out. My wife and I had a voucher for 3 course dinner with fizz for two. We were welcomed and our glasses of fizz were delivered. We both decided to pay the supplement of £10.95 to have sirloin steaks. What a mistake. I ordered my steak medium rare and my wife ordered medium. When they arrived, my steak might have been just OK but was cold. My wife's steak was raw. We sent it back. It was returned to her still raw. I took the Duty Manager aside and gave him the opportunity to start again. Our meals were taken away, and after a wait, we finally received decently cooked steaks. I should say that while we were waiting, four others diners sent their meals back. All in all, a dreadful experience which I will not risk repeating. How could a restaurant with the Marco Pierre White reputation serve such poorly prepared food? Never again.

So it's just a rebranded hotel restaurant, the service was good, but the afternoon tea was distinctly average. The sandwiches were verging on stale which was particularly disappointing. Only went as it was a gift. Trust me, take someone round Borough Market instead and spend £40 on treats there. It felt like someone had just gone to tescos and presented the results nicely.

DONT BOTHER WITH BUYAGIFT OR RED LETTER DAYS! From start to finish you are spoken to and served like a second class citizen, the seating area for the set menu is well hidden from the actual restaurant, with glass panels that keep you well away from the ”actual customers” and the view out of the window, scaffolding and building works, fantastic. The service is slow, there are sloths quicker than the servers in this restaurant. We arrived dead on time at 6pm for our table we waited half hour for it to be ready then another half hour for our orders to be taken and for water to be served. The “Fizz” is cheap and bitter, Aldi has a better selection. The food is a joke, Tescos ready meals have more excitement, the plates will give you 3rd degree burns and well the food, luke warm. If I’d known I would have brought my own ketchup. All in all, I would save your money and get a difference experience, unless you like waiting over 45 minutes for your plates to be cleared from the table. I don’t normally write bad reviews but this one is a shambles.

We had booked this online via their website as had some vouchers but I didn't get a confirmation email so rang several times to confirm booking and was told it was OK. Got there, no booking and they were full. Not a good start and was one very unhappy customer however the team leader (Pramodh) totally turned this experience around, found us a table and the food (which was lovely and hot) and service was fantastic. He provided such good customer service service and avoided a complaint. His manner was great he was friendly, polite and he made sure we were well looked after. Thanks to Pramodh i would definitely recommend this restaurant and would go back. He is a credit to the restaurant

Came for afternoon tea with my husband using a voucher. Initially we were seen and attended to very quickly and shown to our seats with the offer of the prosecco so far so good. However, we were extremely disappointed at the selection of our afternoon tea alongside some of the utensils. We could tell it was a busy day as others were eating in the restaurant but a quick check to make sure cleaning products were put away and the cleanliness of the cutlery makes all the difference. I know other places top up the scones and sandwiches once they run low, but there was no offer of that nor were we offered water like other tables. The scones were lovely and we could have had more of this. The sandwich collection wasn't great and preferably these should have been cut triangular to make it feel more presentable. It felt like once we had been served we were left to it and there was no check in to see if everything was enjoyable or we needed anything else. We had high expectations unfortunately this did not live up to the hype.

Service was terrible, 4 different servers when the restaurant was almost completely bare, me and my family had to ask for things at least twice before they came including things like steak knifes with our steaks which I thought would be obvious. Servers were extremely inattentive and didn’t understand the simplest of things. Bar staff were incompetent and couldn’t even make the simplest of drinks such as a mojito or peach Bellini. Luckily this was a free gift given to us, if it hadn't of been we would of probably of left upon entering. Restaurant atmosphere is very weird and unbefitting of the hotel it is in. Music that makes you feel like you're on hold to a Mediterranean bank and tacky tems that wouldn't look out of place in the range. The staff whilst nice and polite never once offered us a different drink that we would of more then happily added to our bill, it did feel a bit like " well your just voucher guests so you won't want anything else" - we would of liked a nice bottle of wine but you missed out on the upsell The food was bland boring and tasteless, did Marco have any say in this? Nachos with horrid cheese sauce, Wings that wouldn't look out of place in Wether spoons and a Bolognese that had about as much meat as Kate Moss. The cheesecake was delightful however. It's a shame as we have been to the other Marco Pierre White restaurant before and it was much better all round

Went to Marco Pierre Whites with a Buy a Gift voucher. What a waste of money. We were aat in an area away from other guests, which we called the voucher area (or the cheap seats). The area had no Atmosphere, music or anything to make it feel special, just a standard restaurant. The waiter gave us our glass of Prosecco but did not offer any water or the main drinks menu. We had to ask for this on one of his rare visits to the voucher section. The restaurant says it’s a New York Style Italian, more or an American Diner. Nachos, Ribs Chicken wings and salad as a starter is hardly Italian. The mains did have Pasta options or a burger. If you want the Steak on the set menu it will cost £10.50. Good selection of sides if you like chips in many variations. If not there is a Garlic bread, onion rings or Salad. Ribs were tasty but came from the smallest pig on earth and had more rocket than meat. The chicken wings again were tasty but small with a generous side of raw celery. It did look like Celery with a side of Wings. Then there was the pasta, bolognese with a small amount of Parmesan (did not get offered extra) and the Chicken Milanese is just an overcooked piece of chicken on a bed of under seasoned penne pasta in a tomato sauce. An insult to lovers of Italian food. You could make the same with a jar of pasta sauce and a Bernard Matthew Turkey steak. Desserts were good but it’s hard to mess up a tiramisu and an ice cream. Best part is we had a 10% service charge added to the bill for our 1 drink each and garlic bread. Long story short, don’t bother!!

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Didn't stay the night but had a meal in the restaurant. The lobby is a unique style with gorgeous deep greens and plants around the windows, truly a lovely place to sit and relax with a drink from the (average price for a hotel, nothing too expensive) bar in the corner. Illuminated by brightly coloured neon lights around the whole lobby and interesting brick work. I enjoyed the lobby experience. The restaurant was just as appealing to the eyes and the staff were quick and very attentive. Once we ordered, the food was quick to come. I was actually surprised at how prompt the starters were delivered to the table. Staff were friendly and easy to grab when we wanted more water or other questions. Portion sizes were also very generous, we were absolutely stuffed by the end of it and went in starving! I definitely recommend a visit to this place if you're in the vicinity of the Shard / London Bridge Station(15 mins walk)

Really poor afternoon tea. Sandwiches were stale and the macaron/scone very dry as if they had been left on the side for ages. Tea was only provided after we had eaten our sandwiches/cakes and only after we chased. My wife ordered a gluten free afternoon tea. Sandwiches again were dry, 3 small pieces of cake (but 2 were the same) but came without a cream scone and the macaron despite us being told it be accomodated for. These were replaced by a small bowl of fruit (6 pieces of mainly melon). The woman next to us had ordered a dairy free cream tea which consisted of a couple of sandwiches, a brownie and the fruit. No alternative milk could be provided. Would have refused to pay if we had not got this through a voucher.

Went for afternoon tea and was very disappointed. We arrived at 2pm (our booked slot) and were told to wait in a large sitting area with sofas. This was also full of people just looking around and confused. After 15 mins I went up to a member of staff and asked “what are we waiting for?” He then said your table is ready and took us into a large room of tables. We were put in the corner and ignored. After a 20 min wait in this room someone came over with our afternoon tea- it’s served on a slate plater. I asked if we could possibly have a drink? We were asked what we would like? But as we didn’t know what the options were we just said errr tea?? Food was underwhelming, nothing special. 3 small puddings each and 1 macaroon which tasted straight out of the fridge. Would not recommend.

We were finally seated by a strange curtained off area where drinks were being made. The afternoon tea eventually arrived, the bread was stale, the scones were not home made, tasted like budget supermarket scones and we had to ask for our prosecco after waiting 15 mins. STAFF TRIED THEIR BEST BUT .... This is a bland, soulless restaurant that didn’t provide a decent service because it was understaffed. I've given 3 stars for service but it comes with a caveat: the service we received was in some ways very poor, but the overworked staff tried their best in very difficult circumstances and individually they were very good. We arrived on time but waited 15 minutes to be received and seated, standing in a queue running from the reception desk to the entrance door, down stairs wet from the rain outside. Once seated we were promptly given a glass of fizz but then waited over half an hour for anyone to take our order. There weren't enough staff, perhaps due to supply and demand in the labour market. This was not the fault of the staff and none of them deserved the abuse doled out by some of the customers. Were I a restaurant manager I'd be reluctant to close the place any given night due to having too few staff members, but if you can't provide a proper offering surely it needs to be considered? Were I a celebrity chef I'd be reluctant to continue lending my name to the bland fare served up on our visit. My bbq ribs were ok but nothing special. My companion's starter was a bowl if tomatoes with a but of onion. The chicken Milanese was bland and microwavey. The spaghetti bolognese was tasteless and unappetising. The cheesecake was soggy and insipid. The interior was corporate and chain-like. This meal was purchased as part of a Virgin Experiences package that includes a trip up The Shard. Perhaps we should have checked the distance from The Shard, as we were surprised to discover it involves a 15 minute walk.

Sadly our experience was poor. The restaurant itself is nice, not too noisy, good setting, great first impression. However, the food took an unacceptable amount of time from ordering to be served (45 minutes). The food itself was, in main, ok but nothing special. One of the dishes, a rigatoni dish, was bland. As with some of the other restaurants in the chains of famous chefs, the more informal establishments seem to too often trade off the name rather than deliver a good all round experience that you’d want to repeat. Patrons are not expecting the incredible experience and food of the formal and original restaurants that you pay significantly more for, but nor should your experience be poorer than a good gastro pub or restaurant not linked to a famous brand. A shame. Other diners perhaps had more positive experiences.

It took over an hour to get our food and might have been that long for drinks had I not gone to the bar and asked if they got our order. You order and pay online and no one comes to check on you so why I gave a tip I’m really not sure. Overall the food was ok- after waiting an hour for our food due to the chef taking a walk about we finally received our food and it was warm - not hot. Chicken wings were breaded with more bread than sauce. Burgers were good but the bottom bun fell apart. No one checks on you after food is delivered so this is truly a self service establishment. If you’re in to that this a perfect place for you. We are here on vacation so we def won’t return. Initially stopped in because of the drink special advertised and we were very hungry lol.

Bad service. Under pressure (it means 4 people in the queue) they forgot the ingredients that you asked for and don’t even have the sense of portioning. The other night we went there with a friend (two girls) and the two guys working also tried to approach us and flirt, very disrespectful just because we were alone at 10pm, probably one of the guys was also stoned
