Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill in Oxford

We had a good meal here but it wasn't amazing. The staff were polite and attentive but did feel a little inexperienced at times. The food was good quality but I felt the steak I ordered was not perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was a little flat but perhaps that was because it was not particularly busy. They were refusing walk ins on the evening we visited, which was unexpected when they were not full.

Service was bad but recovered extremely well by Madalina, a well done to her.

Large group for dinner. After arriving on time we were left without any acknowledgment from the five staff that walked by for 5 minutes. Food was ok but not to the standard you’d expect for such a restaurant, at these prices. The soups were too hot to eat, I and another member of the party burnt ourselves as no warning was given. The wait service was poor bordering on rude and at times bordering on incompetent. One member didn’t know what desserts they were holding for example. The manager was visibly annoyed at her staff and there were several moments where they were effectively bickering within ear shot. After a complaint on one of the dishes we heard nothing further. Overall, fairly poor standards with no focus customer experience. Don’t waste your time here.

Absolutely perfect. The food was divine, The service was excellent. Would definitely recommend this hotel. The cocktails were superb.

Sat here now! For a steak house they have almost none on the menu. Staff less than helpful, borderline rude! It is mine and my friends birthday and we are nothing but thoroughly disappointed! Big fat thumbs down from us! Not sure on food yet but if the rest is to go on I’m not folding me breath

AWFUL SERVICE, WENT FOR VALENTINES AND THE STEAK WAS DISGUSTING, SERVICE WAS SLOW EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EMPTY, HAD TO ASK 4 TIMES FOR THE BILL, CHARGED US FOR DESSERT, I ASKED TO TAKE AWAY AND THEY PUT 1 DESSERT (ORDERED 2X TRIO OF DESSERTS SO THEY JUST BASICALLY STOLE MY MONEY) CONTACTED THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEEN IGNORED. DONT BOTHER, ASDA SUPERMARKET STEAKS ARE BETTER AND SERVICE IS AWFUL SO DON'T GO! MARCO, I WILL BE IN CONTACT ABOUT THIS AS IM SURE YOU WONT BE HAPPY!!

Really excellent staff serving rather good food. Lovely place with a fixed price 3 course with glass of wine. Really relaxing. Good value.

Just visited for my birthday from up north. It did not disappoint, lots of good deals, really friendly staff (Polish lady and New waiter) they even sang me happy birthday and I got a brownie 🎈 10/10 definitely recommend. Thank you.

Food is not bad... but there was some mis communication. I asked cook more a slice of meat but they brought me back low quality of it. I mean not exactly same meat. Even the staff was not professional, hopefully there will be better service.

The staff haven’t been trained in common sense / customer delight. Everything done in a slap-dash uncaring manner. Not what one would expect for an £18 breakfast which, despite inflation, is too much for what it is and how it is served.

Turned up without a booking as made a mistake with dates and was welcomed and sat in a lovely booth. Staff. Attentive service and perfectly cooked steak, would definitely return.

Attended for a training course so not expecting much . Advance notice given that I am coeliac . Staff rude and unhelpful offered soup ( couldn’t say what kind) and stir fired vegetables . Cut Fruit offered as dessert but served buffet style with profiteroles contaminating the area . Don’t bother if you have dietary needs

This restaurant is on the first floor of the Leonardo Royal Hotel Oxford, beautifully decorated and designed a good variety of meals which unfortunately didn’t measure up, bland over cooked calamari, a prawn cocktail with just 3 prawns ! On the up side, the French onion soup was delicious. Burgers were ok - average , chicken- average, Anchovy and avocado salad was very disappointing, thrown into the bowl with little grace , soggy lettuce, three small squares of avocado and about fifteen anchovy’s ( way too many) , solid chocolate mousse, a bland vanilla cheesecake and an average sticky toffee pudding. We wouldn’t eat here again. I hope if Marco does random checks on venues that bear his name that he or his team visits this one sooner rather than later.

Finally got our food after 50 minutes waiting. Fish and chips was soggy and oily, peas were bland. Lamb had not been trimmed correctly and had chunks of gristle. Fondant potato was undercooked. Marco would be severely cross

Service took a very long time and was super slow for us to get our food. As Americans, we didn't know the "norm" that you had to ask for tap water specifically or else they'd charge you for 4.50 just for some "still water." If you want free water, ask for tap. They had a BUILT IN 12.5% service fee and ALSO gratuity. Food was fine I guess. Service was just sad though.

Lovely food; marked down for two reasons: We had to wait past our booked time. Our server forgot to.let us know that a few dishes were off!! Only informed at time of ordering.

The Lamb entree was very good but it became apparent that some desserts/ dishes from Marco Pierre White and Leo's just downstairs were the same, and only presented differently. I would have like a bit more clear distinction and originality from the MPW menu and presentation, especially for the pricing when compared to the food downstairs.

Incredibly helpful, friendly and efficient staff. Excellent wines - even though chosen from the lower price brackets. However, food was a bit below par from what we expected to be from a franchise of a first rate chef. My ribeye tasted nice, but a little tough in places. The bernaise sauce was split and should not have been allowed out of the kitchen.

This place gets some not great reviews but it was actually really good! Good quality food with good staff with a really nice ambiance for a meal whilst away on business. I’m really not sure what other people have been eating or what they expect but this was very a very pleasant meal.

Absolutely grim. Staff don’t care. Email sent to the restaurant below. To whom it may concern I have just “not” eaten at your restaurant. After tying to order 3 different wines that were on the wine list, I managed to secure a fourth. I was then hassled to order, when I had said I wasn’t ready, In an empty restaurant at 7pm When my sirloin steak did arrive, I was bemused, but perhaps not surprised to find out that my sauce Béarnaise was not delivered, I was then told that it wasn’t ordered. Now to the steak. It looked ok, I ordered the 16oz sirloin. It’s was cooked rare as requested and all was good at that point. Then on eating it began to fall apart. At the end of the sirloin is a piece of sinew, made from elastin. It’s not nice. You get that when the butchers try to edge one more steak. So the steak was inedible, not only that, it was completely under seasoned and the sauce Béarnaise was thin and only tasted of white wine vinegar. There was slight evidence of shallot and tarragon, but no taste. I asked to speak to the chef and he or she did not have the sense to put things right. In a restaurant with 12 active covers on a Thursday evening. Which is very disappointing, All in all, an absolutely horrendous show. Ordered a sandwich from a delivery company instead Avoid

Overall experience was very poor, the first time I have ever sent food back to a kitchen. The waitress who served us was inexperienced and lingered, bread and water was offered before we had to chance to look at the menus. 750ml bottle of water costing £4.50. Ordered ribeye cooked medium, was prepared rare and extremely chewy. The quality of the food and experience was not even close to the price tag. £80 for 2, With no drinks or dessert.

The menu was uninspiring, like something 20+ years old. Having "steakhouse" in the name, the steaks should be cooked perfectly, unfortunately my wife's steak was not. Ordered medium rare, half was correctly cooked, the other half was on the blue side of rare as if the pan was not evenly hot. This was sent back and returned correctly cooked. The peppercorn sauce was rather mild, lacking in strong pepper flavour. My chicken pie was well filled, but with just pastry on the top; for many people a pie should be completely enclosed. The accompanying green peas were hard, (certainly not Birds Eye), while Mac 'n Cheese side was fairly tasteless - I would have hated this as a main dish. There was no drinks menu, apart from the wine list, and our waitress seemed uncertain what drinks were available. While the waiting staff were attentive, I got fed up with being asked around 30 seconds of each delivery of the drinks, starters, main, etc if everything was ok. I doubt if Marco Pierre White would have been happy with the food, and we will not be eating there again.

We had a lovely meal ,service was excellent ,lady who served us ,was very helpful and friendly.

I am sure Marco had never been here. Food was not great. Bland steak. How wrong can you go with cheese as a dessert…well it was good enough cheese but had been chilled so much that it was the consistency of hard butter and stone cold to touch. Value extremely poor. Service - sullen.

Bought as a 50th Birthday gift. Shame it was all a little underwhelming

Visited for a valentines menu around 6pm. First of all , it’s in a hotel. Maybe that’s the norm with this chain but I didn’t know that and the website makes no indication, you also have to pay for parking. The restaurant was not busy, we ordered water and bread the second we sat down as per the waitresses query , we waited 15 minutes for this water and bread. 15 minutes. We ordered food and another drink all before our food and water, intended to be consumed whilst browsing the menu, arrived. The waitress that had our water walked past our table 3 times. The first time I smiled and indicated that the drinks were ours, to be met with a blank poker face and she walked off. She chose to greet a couple who had just arrived and placed our drinks to her side before actually giving them to us (after walking past us to find our table, once more). The food was great and the waiter was friendly but it went down hill from here. We asked for the bill to be met with a very judgement comment from the waitress about the fact we didn’t want desert or coffee. She then brings the bill and card machine, placed the bill infront of my boyfriend and the card machine in his face. He did not ask for the bill, I (a woman) did. This act of sexism shocked me. He didnt even have his card or wallet out and we were splitting the bill. The only reason she could possibly assume he was paying was sexism. That is not on. Not only did we feel rushed to pay there and then, we didn’t even have time to read the bill before she inputted the amount and presented it to my boyfriend. I made a point to check the bill, it included a hefty service charge. We paid and she took our drinks. They still had drink left in them ! It’s as if the second you pay you are expected to leave, and not finish your drinks. The website says you have your table for 1h 30 mins. We still had 20 minutes left. We swiftly left and agreed that we will never be visiting again. While the food was good it I was not worth £19 for a burger and chips, and the service (bar the one waiter we had ) was abysmal. We did not feel welcomed and were made to feel uncomfortable by the waitress. You can find much better food and service elsewhere.

Staff working at this restaurant are an absolute disgrace and very rude. From the moment we sat down until we left, we were spoken to by a very blunt and rude lady who clearly has no people skills. I will gladly never be returning to this place again!

We were able to take advantage of the January 50% off mains deal and enjoyed some fine food. I had the lamb roast which was cooked to perfection. As a special occasion venue it would be very nice. It's a pity it is so far out of the city as it seemed very quiet for a Wednesday evening.

I stayed at the Leonardo Royal Hotel for a week on a work trip and had a room allowance to eat at Marco Pierre White every evening. The options are very poor for vegetarians / Vegans- particularly as one of the options was out of stock all week. My friend ordered a burger one night which came without mayo (which it said it had on the menu) we mentioned this to the waitress and the chef sent it back and told him to put it in himself (super professional!). Everyones food most nights was average. Wasn’t too bothered as I had a room allowance but if we were visiting separately I’d be very disappointed. Definitely isn’t worth the money it costs. We still paid over the allowance most nights due to everything being so overpriced. The only positive was the waitresses who were always very friendly and polite.

Inedible.Horrendous cheap cuts of meat,glued together. Impossible to chew. The French onion soup starter was just ok… the Mac and cheese had no cheese or flavour it was all very bizarre I cannot believe Marco Pierre white puts his name to these places.

Lovely staff and location. Food was fantastic and with their two for one Prosecco to top it off. Pricing seemed fair for the quality of food.

The kitchen had on off day. Quality of the steak not up to standard. Good front of house staff eased the pain of disappointment. The hotel contacted me afterwards to apologise and offered a more than suitable offer to recover the situation.

Not as good as the London restaurants! I called before hand to check they had a set menu, they confirmed they did. When we arrived, we were told set menus are only for hotel guests. We also had to pay for parking which annoyed us after we just spent £100 in the restaurant. Won’t be returning.

The menu is small to begin with but one of a small handful of starters was unavailable. Mains came out and waitress got them wrong even after us telling her what they were. For a steakhouse, it was the most boring, unseasoned steak that was one third fat and considering it was meant to be rare was more medium rare. I asked for pistachio ice cream, what came out was brown. I asked the waitress if it was pistachio, she assured me it was but it most definitely wasn't! Another waitress noticed and changed it immediately. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks until we had finished, food was ridiculously expensive for what was average at best. Definitely would not eat her again.

The service was ok. When you pay for an expensive meal you expect the meal to be good. It wasn’t. The starter was the worst rarebit I have ever had. It was like eating a piece of thick cardboard. The main failed to impress too. The fillet steak was a decent cut and was cooked ok. The sauce was rubbish and there wasn’t much of it either. The chips were really really dry. The salad that accompanied it was an unimaginative hand full of lettuce. The same handful of lettuce came with the single tiny piece of cheese and four tiny unbelievably rubbish crackers. The chutney was ok. The bottle of wine was pretty good but at over £40 if it wouldn’t have been I may have made a scene. It really was as bad as I’m saying. Never again.

We ate here as we were staying at Jury's. I nearly left at the welcome station (I wish I had now) as the greeting was less than welcoming, the female maitre'd suggested going to the bar if we didn't want two main courses.. The burger was actually OK but the salad lyonnaise wasn't - a bunch of bitter frissee lettuce with croutons and eggs. The leaves barely dressed.. Service was slow but polite. The glass of wine was a lot of money for something pretty average and a small measure. On complaining about the salad we were told that was Marco's recipe! £35 for one starter, burger and chips (no garnish) and one small insipid glass of wine was too much for the quality, quantity and presentation of the food.. Not to mention the sour greeting on arrival..

The weekend was a celebration for a dear colleagues retirement with an overnight stay at Jury’s Inn and dinner at Marco Pierre White restaurant. Our meal for 13 was excellent and the service was second to none! Very attentive and nothing was too much trouble....

Was first greeted by Vlad, very professional and made us feel very welcome!  This spot gives extraordinary service and delectable meals. One of my favourite restaurants around town. The meals served rapidly and the rates were reasonable. Highly recommended.

Excellent service here, my wife and I turned up without a booking and unfortunately there weren’t any tables left. After speaking with Vlad he managed to get me into a no show table. The service and food were both excellent and I can’t thank our server Vlad enough as he was extremely welcoming and made the whole experience very pleasant.

Phone not answered. Ever. All week I have been trying to call. Have even tried Birmingham too. Just rings and rings. I have a voucher that expires at the end of this month but I am positive for Covid. Oxford is only open on Thursday and Fri. Immensely frustrating.

Steak not cooked how it was asked for, service extremely slow, I had to chase up a steak knife lol.. my first visit ever but will be my last

Lovely services Gabby was awesome. Steak was really good. Only limitation it’s a small menu but we had a good evening. The courtesy call was a lovely touch as we were stuck in traffic. Bread and butter was a good and would recommend it.

Food was ok, but the decor is very perculiar

Took an hour and a half for food to arrive, steak was bleeding even though ordered well done,uncuttable even with steak knife, un chewable. Service was appalling, atmosphere was stark and cold.Totally destroyed birthday dinner.Never again !!!!

My husband and I had a fabulous time here. All staff were lovely, especially our waiter for the evening who was Steve Green. We will definitely go back. We also recommend it.

six of us took a 15min taxi ride for the evening, on arrival met by staff who asked immediately if we had a discount voucher!!?? , she appeared to use a very hot setting on clothes washing as her shirt had shrunk at the front...

Didn't hate it at all but it wasn't open on a Monday or Tuesday which was the duration of our stay. The bar and grill operating on the days we were there was good.

The customer service was great. the restaurant is lovely with a nice atmosphere. The potted crab was tasteless and the ribeye steak was very poor quality. The chips were powdery. Overall, a terrible meal.

Forced tips and pushing add ons is not a substitute for paying your staff well and making decent food.

Remember a night here with my friend last winter. Wonderful place! Excellent food and the staff made us feel like we were at home having dinner instead of being in a room with strangers. Some excellently-done retro dishes like prwn cocktails at their best, interesting-sounding burgers, humble fish and chips elevated to excellence, made this a first rate and very unpretentious meal to round off a busy day.

My friends and I came here tonight for dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly. Exceptional service from Vladi who was very attentive and happy to help answer questions and recommend dishes.

Steak was good but nothing special, the chips were nicer than other places. Our server was pleasant and we were served quickly. The atmosphere was odd because no one was in there while we were, so you kind of felt like you were being listened in on constantly, however this not a fault of the staff. The fact they asked if we wanted bread and water so casually and then charged us nearly £10 for them was annoying as the price wasn't specified prior to offering or serving. The involuntary tip was frustrating because while I do believe in tipping for great service, being forced too even if the service wasn't great isn't a quality I appreciate in a restaurant. Overall this restaurant has its qualities, however those qualities simply aren't worth the price.

Went over the festive period. Small menu choice - perhaps reduced for the time of year? Terrible quality steak. No choice of steak sauce. Would have been drastically overpriced - however, thankfully the food was 'free' (due to loyalty points from the accompanying hotel) otherwise would have definitely warranted a complaint.
