We had our wedding reception in the Study upstairs. The whole process was excellent. Lambros, Daisy and the staff were brilliant and made it stress free. The food was delicious and the space was perfect for us. Would 100% have an event here again.

I met some friends there for dinner and had a great time there. The food was excellent as was the service from the staff. The location was perfect, just down from the station on the bank of Castle Mill Stream. The pub has a stunning outside seating area to boot and proper beer. Just one small criticism, they don't take cash, which I find annoying. We must use cash or risk losing it. There are many people for whatever reason do not have a bank card. When I asked the lady behind the bar what do you do, if someone did not have a bank card, and they were unable to answer. Keep using cash.

Once you know the table number, you can order and pay, after which the food and drinks arrive quickly.

First visit to this place and what a cracking place to eat drink and enjoy yourself. Staff were friendly helpful polite. So different from many other places in oxford. Well done everyone keep up the great work.

I came in on a hot day with my dog to meet a friend. Shout out to the amazing staff! Young lady brought a bowl of water for my dog and young gentleman has brought out extra table and chairs so we can sit outside! Well done! You are doing fantastic job! Thank you!

Pleasant pub with a nice relaxed atmosphere and a nice garden area. The traffic from the road can be a bit noisy though. Friendly staff and good selection of drinks. Didn't try any food.

Had the 1/2 chicken peri peri style and the chicken Ceasar salad. Portions were huge and food was fantastic!

Bar staff was attentive and friendly and our drinks were fairly priced and good. The owner had abandoned any effort to maintain this historic property. Even the sign outside is falling apart!

We came after a stag do for a Sunday lunch before heading to the train station. Stunning location, pub, very friendly staff and good space, temperature and ambience. All was offset by the quality of food - it was basically all frozen and poor quality. All was decently priced, however we all had different dishes (fish & chips, burger, vegan burger, chicken) and all of them were disappointing. Small details e.g. no veg with burger&chips, lukewarm chips, lukewarm garlic bread (albeit garlic bread was a good portion) was such a shame on an otherwise amazing pub with a great riverside/station location.

The door staff here tend to be rude and abrasive. I recommend going around the corner to Kiss and the other really cool clubs around there. Less undergrads. More dancing and less gabbing. More polite door staff who won’t hassle you. All in all it’s fun but kind of too popular for its own good.

This spot never disappoints. The food is okay but the drinks and pub vibe is cool. Great spot to join friend or coworkers for a few drinks. Also has a great area upstairs that is good for dancing when it is not hired out.

Worse food ever. Burnt samosas, prawns with no dip and nachos with false sour cream and groucamole. No side plates just very poor. Very Iceland

I had a tempura prawn starter which was very good. I had a lamb shank main which was below average. It came with mash and peas which were cold. It let the place down and ruined the experience.

Went with a group of friends for dinner. The food was variable and generally not great. The lamb and mash was precooked and chilly. Several who had the chicken left quite a lot as it was tough. Customer service re booking not great. Oxford's a good city and there are a number of better places, as borne out by the reviews

Right by the train station this little bar is in a great location, had some great food and some cocktails. Cocktails were excellent and food was great too - presentation left a little to be desired however.

The night door and managing staff being unwelcoming and rude. This is no longer a nice pub, it’s a nightclub.

Bit cold. Beer n stuff ok though. Big tvs so probs good for sport.

Great little pub with garden. Staff were polite and served me immediately the Guinness was good. Nearest pub I could find by the station and I'll be back. I'm sure this place is rocking in the summer being by the river.

Great pub/boozer, lovely friendly staff and great beers to match... large outside covered smoking friendly area and a real huge bonus, it is open late, last orders at 11.45pm (or might be later) so if you miss your train, its just down the road! Lovely stuff! Thank you

We were asked ids and we understood. Minutes later bouncers friends showed up, not showing ids and got in. You jidge yourself.

We recently stumbled upon the Oxford Retreat pub and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly, and they had good drinks,especially wines and cocktails. Nice selection of beers, too. Well located as near bus & train station.

Been here loads, but this Friday witnessed what it's like when the Said Business school turns out on a Friday about 16:45 Literally dozens of Americans all buying 1 drink at a time, overwhelmed the bar staff! "Gee, I'm in an English pub!" The staff coped admirably to their credit, so remains one of my favourite Oxford pubs

Best Sunday Roast ive had in a long time. Great little find.

Latin party Fridays are the best. Good music, from salsa to reggaeton. There is no cover, but you must bring an official ID (any government ID is valid) The party starts at 11 pm every Friday, and goes until 3 am

Kinda ok, but lacking decent beer.

Visited early Saturday evening for a drink before catching the train (couple of minutes walk to the station). Had a coffee and hubby a pint. Service was fine but as it was early it wasn't busy.

Amazing atmosphere with good selection of drinks

Loved the ambience, the setup, the music, the dance floor, outdoor seating area, the crowd and pretty much everything! I went for the Friday's Latin socials and it was amazing. Would definitely recommend this place on a Friday over all the other clubs and pubs in Oxford. Best part, it's free entry!!

Very limited selection of decent beer (two if I recall correctly) and the music was too loud. Plenty of space though. Given its location and size, this could be a great pub - as it once was when it was The Nag's Head.

Looked like a cute place to grab a bite, but when we sat down it was just not clean. You could see cobwebs in the corners and dust on the lamps which is not that much of an effort to clean. All 3 of us had the fish and chips which wasnt that cheap, so we had high expectations, but the fish was more fried oil than fish. It also seemed like there was no seasoning used what so ever. Side salad didnt make up for it unfortunately as it was very sour due to the vinegar dressing which didnt have a counterpart . Maybe the other dishes were beter, but this didnt do it for us.

It's nice, next to the canals. Quiet during the day. Friendly service.

The worst pub restaurant we've been in for quite a while. The varied menu advertised online was not available, and the vegan bean burgers had to be sent back as were not bean but were soya mince and also were virtually cold. The chips and the roast beef however were fairly good. The service was poor, but probably down to lack of training. The loos were not very hygienic and no loo paper. Altogether a most disappointing experience and we certainly would not recommend this place.

Attended a small.private party upstairs and it was great atmosphere. Canapés were lovely. Drinks were good. Great vegan options.

This place is really nice, inside and out... until you realise that the whole covered outside area allows smoking, which ruins it for the majority of the population and means that unless you enjoy the acrid stench of cancerous smoke with your drink and food, you have to go inside - and it still wafts through open doors. Food menu is tiny (burger, burger, burger, fish and chips and beef with salad - which was off that day!) and is ok quality; at least it's freshly cooked and reasonably priced. Staff were great though, really friendly and helpful which was a big plus. So if you're a smoker, and happy with keeping to drinks and pub-level grub, then this would be a great place to chill out by the river. If you're not a smoker I'd look elsewhere.

Located between the train station and the city centre is this popular pub. Lots of indoor seating and outside terrace area which is covered with TV screens for sports. Great staff and food/drink choices in a good atmosphere

Our organisation visited for our annual summer party, an opportunity for us to celebrate all the hard work we do towards our mission statement. Imran and his team were amazing. I challenged the them to water and feed 50 hungry vegetarians/vegans and they certainly delivered. The Thai buffet was incredibly authentic and delicious and the team went above and beyond to make sure no-one went hungry. I would definitely plan our next gathering here and would recommend to others.

This place is great. Not only it's the best place to go partying if you are spanish, but also has a really nice terrace were you can have some drinks in the afternoon/evening.

I like the Oxford retreat however on this occasion we left to get cigarettes asked them if we would be allowed back in to rejoin our group of 15 after they said it was fine, returned to be denied entry or being able to get our stuff and drinks from inside

Nice big tables outside a semi- covered area to sit in. Orders made through QR code at table and then brought to table. Quick service. We were a small group wanting a quick drink in a nearby location and it was great.

I stumbled across this place with my other half as we were waiting for the train and had some time to kill. The staff were friendly & mad us feel welcome. Their menu wasn't huge, but they had all the typical option you'd expect to see in a pub. I went for the beef roast and my partner had the fish and chips. Really good food & nice chilled ambiance. Would return!

We went to Oxford to watch Al Murray back in September and unfortunately the time it finished left us barely 8 minutes to get back to the train station, the people in front had the same problem and with a whole hour until the next train darted off into this pub, we decided we’d do the same and I am so pleased we did. Great drink at reasonable prices, with a wonderful outdoor area with a heater to switch on above your table if you’re cold. It is a shame though since I walked past recently they have completely blocked out the outdoor area from the street, so when sat outdoors you’re looking at a plank of wood, rather than seeing the hustle and bustle of outside naturally. I would definitely return here, and look forward to doing so
