Manze's Pie and Mash in Broxbourne

Brilliant..hit and fresh proper English food served by lovely ladies. The food was spot on and good value for proper food that tasted like it should. Not marinated to make the food taste better.

Nice food quite authentic the only downside I will say is there was no one other than us in the shop and there was at least 3 tables to clean and the Two ladies were just standing there gossiping doesn't look good does it come on how long does it take to clear a few tables

Authentic Pie and Mash, absolutely delicious. Lady serving was friendly and helpful. Pies full of mince, mash and liquor perfect consistency. Well worth a visit.

Great friendly service with a smile, get a takeaway most weeks of double pie mash and liquir and even get my mum to come up from London and have lunch

when it first opened the pies was not filled much with mince.but i got say they have put that right .and its great service staff are great food well i could eat breckfast dinner tea in there.give it a try.

An outstanding lunch consisting of proper pie shop pies, mash, warm eels and sticky flavoursome liquor with plenty of pepper and chilli vinegar. Eels in particular were exceptional. Absolutely superb and just as I remembered them from years ago in North and East London. The place bears no resemblance to the shops or yore, no benches or cracked tiles and proper Nickleplated utensils. Great to see the traditional Manze name has retained its quality. Definately one for the list of lunchtime eateries. Only one complaint, no spittoons for the eel bones😂😂😂😂

Just had a takeaway pie and mash from Manze’s hoddesdon after 13 weeks in lockdown. Still as good as ever, excellent proper old fashioned pie n mash

This is the real deal. Stunning. I visit whenever i can. Ignore the negative comments. Its class! Pies: first class Mash: first class Liquor: first class Chilli vinegar: first class Thix is the best pie snc mash you will find outside of london... i dare say it's the best you'll find full stop.

This is an authentic Pie & Mash shop, the Pie's are lovely and the mash doesn't have any lumps; the Liquor is great. So it's well worth a visit if you love Pie & Mash.

Omg, didn't know this place was here!! So glad I found it. Wasn't hungry, but being an East end girl, love my pie and mash, had to have some. Excellent!!! Chilli vinegar not to hot. Cup of tea, perfect. Will deffo be returning.

i popped in the first time on my first visit to Lloyds bank HODDESDON as my Ware branch has closed. . the black horse BOLTED...well as i was in a hurry i just had liquor and mash . . as the manageress was mashing Real potato. . i know . that was nice ...BUT the next visit to the Bank involved stewed ells liquor and mash . heavenly. as i have never eaten in a Pie and Mash before...at my age !I must start a bucket list . thank you very much John

Was recommended this place I was near the area and made a point of coming here as Dont have any pie n mash shops near where I live. Ordered takeaway to take back home for my family. I will definitely drive back again especially for this again really enjoyed it and the staff were lovely and helpful will probably eat in next time lovely and clean

Proper London pie and mash cafe on Peckham High Street that is part of a hundred years old family business. Pie, mash and liquor ( a local speciality or gravy if you want) for two with can of pop (soda) for about £10 bargain. Great food and friendly staff. If you're visiting London you have to try pie and mash or visit won't be complete. 😋😋

Called in to Manzes for a lunch time treat, as three of us had never had pie and mash before. To be honest, didn't like the sound of the liquor but this was really tasty. We all had two pies with two scoops of mash plus the liquor. Very tidy and clean and very pleasant staff. There is a small pay and display near bye and then you walk down the side of Aldi supermarket.

Gone in 60 seconds, was fab as always and even posted on social media. Lovely lady serving who was very polite.

Went to the hoddesdon branch today and was extremely disappointed. The mash is horrible as its not from real potatoes, its definitely packet mash which i hate. The vinegar is so watered down you have to use loads of it. Disappointing, most pie and mash shops use real potatoes. £5 for a doughy pie and packet mash. Shall not be returning

Popped in for lunch at 1pm. First time for traditional pie and mash in years. Ladies were friendly, spotlessly clean, quick service from the counter. Pie was tasty but all only luke warm and pie lacked filling plenty of gravy. Was underwhelmed.

It may not have quite the appeal of the originals, but the taste is the same. Good food, good service, good price. You can't ask for more

When I was growing up I would either go to either of my two local Pie and Mash shops, - either Clarke's Pie and Mash or Manze's Pie and Mash - Both fantastic, family had been going to them both since I can remember from my great grandfather to the present day. Alas both have closed down, however when I found out that Manze's had opened one in Hoddesdon, I had to go!. ....Well what can I say, it is still amazing, love the pie, love the mash and of course the liquor.

Manze’s pie and mash is a really friendly place, the food is just as it should be. We will all be going back again and again. Love this place

Nice pie and mash and liquor. Often not got any large pies which is a shame as two small is too much and one small is not enough. Mash portion is smaller than in other pie and mash places. Would recommend.

Popped in with our American family while they were over to give them a taster of good pie and mash, they loved the food but wouldn’t stretch to liquor and stayed with brown gravy.

Hi Visited This Pie & Mash Shop Dec 2017 .What can i say ,the double pie & mash was really nice,exactly as it should taste from a East End pie & mash shop .The staff actually had smiles on their faces as they served you ,which you don't seem to get much these days .Thoroughly enjoyed the meal,and would highly recommend. Since I left London, always looking for a good pie and mash, have discovered Manze’s and eat there whenever in the area.

Being brought up in Walthamstow it's so fantastic that we can now have the best pie n mash not far from where we now live.

Coming from Walthamstow was so looking forward to having my favourite meal of double pie double mash and liquor from manze's pie was nice but bit burnt liquor was loverly but the mash although proper mash it was cold !!!! Not the best one we have had shame.was a bit concerned when we got there at 12.30 and was only ones there

Fabulous staff so friendly hot tastiest pies you will ever have and mash to die for. Go visit soon!!! Never miss if I am near and always enjoy street than fillet steak!!

Pie and mash ok The service on the other hand was appalling. Had to wait 20 minutes for the pies to cook. During this time the staff were playing with their phones ignoring customers waiting to be served. Will never go back there again!

Never again. The most disgusting and worst pie n mash I have ever had and I've been eating for a good 35-40 years. Gristle in the pies. Meat not tasty. Would NOT RECOMMEND

Here i am sat in Manzes while i am writing this review. Never been here before but it was worth coming in. Great pie and mash. For a decent price too!!

He estado comiendo pastel y puré durante más de 40 años, y hemos comido en la mayoría de las tiendas al este del río. Este era un país de Mike el peor que he comido. El pastel había cebollas, estaba pasada y asqueroso. El licor no tenía sabor, ni un rastro de stock (que es un ingrediente base en licor). Tenía un bocado y a la izquierda. Una pena, ya que solía ir a la capilla en la calle mercado Manzes todo el tiempo y fue fabuloso, tienen que tener franquiciados. Yo sólo estaba en la U. K. durante una semana, y comieron la tarta de Anguila y calificación, casa abadía y Waltham es Toneys romano. Esto no ser llamado tarta de negocios tradicionales y tienda de puré de patatas, estaba tan decepcionado

El restaurante está escondido a lo largo de un estrecho recinto peatonal de tiendas. Hoddesdon es bastante pequeña, así que no es difícil de encontrar. El restaurante es limpio luminoso y bien ventilado. No es una tarta tradicional y tienda de puré con vidrieras y azulejos. Que probablemente sería bastante caro para recrear. El menú, sin embargo, es tradicional. Tartas, puré, licor y anguilas. Las tartas contienen grandes cebollas (que en lo particular no me favor) pero las pequeñas son tradicionales. Tuve tarta doble y puré y era realmente bueno. Volveré.

Absolutely love pie and mash ..brings back child hood memories of Walthamstow market with my nan.. Good here is great just a shame it's very pricy for the portion sizes Staff are pleasant and the shop is clean and always busy

Trajo aquí por un amigo londinense, que insistieron en que tengo que probar el pastel de puré de licores. n n La comida era bastante apetecible, pero podía haber sido un poco más caliente. Me pareció que era un poco caro. El restaurante en sí es muy básico, pero limpio. El personal era amable y servicial.

Fuimos a Hoddesdon con mi esposa y nos fuimos y había tarta y puré de aquí. Me recordó a mi infancia en el este de Londres. Gran pastel de puré casero y tradicionalmente brillantemente preparado. Buen servicio, comidas y gran ambiente. Si estás en Hoddesdon intente este maravilloso lugar

I don"t know much about pie mash and liquor apart from a lovely pie and mash in southend, (robins) i was not impressed with the pie, mash or liquor, it tasted TINNY and mass made, YUCK! Not wheelchair friendly at all,won"t be going back!

what can you say known the sister ship in wathamstow was great there and is great here to glad they opened up here now i can have it more often

This is a lovely clean little place in Hoddesdon with undoubtedly the cheapest and best cuppa in town. If pie/mash is your favourite dish this is the place for you.

Look it's a Pie Shop which for me is better than gourmet poncy food. Double pie, double mash and liquor- vinegar and pepper and eat with a spoon and fork. Can't beat it. Try it.

Fuimos a Manzes Hoddesdon por primera vez hoy. Un bonito lugar ordenado. El pastel y Puré parecía el negocio. El puré y Liqor aspecto y sabor bien. Las Tartas eran otra historia. A 32º C (Microondas) superior no fresco en casi ninguna Misa del Gallo fue el pastel y nunca tuvimos un pastel sin sabor como que antes en mi 64 Años de comer tartas.

Manze's, who have been based in Walthamstow High St since 1929 have recently opened another outlet in Hoddesdon. So, no issues with the quality of the pies and liquor as they appear to be the same as the 'original' store. No negatives! Enjoy...

Estaba deseando! Por desgracia, el llenado de la tarta era bastante insípida, aunque la pastelería era del tipo tradicional. El licor era muy finas y no tener mucho gusto (no hay zumo de anguila?) El muy pequeña porción de puré cremoso probado demasiado para este plato East End. Un poco decepcionado con esto.

We bought take away. Pie was very grisly. Liquor was not cooked, very floury, big lumps and tasteless. We bought 'a portion' of eels, and when we got home we had jellied eels and not stewed eels!

Al haber comido en Manze en Walthamstow, tenía ganas de ver la apertura en Hoddesdon. Metimos en las Jellied Anguilas (yo siendo uno de las personas que en realidad menos de 60 años les gustan) y compré un tazón grande para ir.

this restaurant was mentioned to me by my nephew James,in passing conversation and being of a particular age (old) I said lets go visit. Having known the area previously, was amazed to find this little gem. The meal of pie and mash to the uninitiated consists of a flaky pastry minced lamb pie mashed potatoes and parsley gravy/sauce,plied with lashings of salt and vinegar. Two pies being the norm for this meal,also try the stewed eels liquor and mash.

When I first heard that Manze's was opening up in Hoddesdon I shot over there 24 hours later (being the pie and mash fanatic that I am) only to be dissappointed, the service was poor, the pies were soggy and grissly, the mash and liquor was tasteless and large pies come with onions, what kind of traditional pie and mash shop does onions in the pie?

Estuvimos aquí para el almuerzo semana pasada como Manzes oír era el lugar al que ir para tarta y puré de patatas, sólo había Misa del Gallo y pastel de cebolla izquierda.Tomó un bocado y discutía. tarta era plana como una crêpe y qué abundante había tenido bultos de White gristly grasa en! Como para el puré de patatas, era como comer un plato de sal, así que no podía comer eso. NUNCA va allí de nuevo!! En cuanto al personal, una sonrisa no estaría mal!

Went through recommendation. Very disappointing Meat pie was beef mince, not much flavour, liquor and the mash tasteless. In fact nothing like home made either. Will not be going again.

Estábamos bastante emocionado cuando oímos un Manze fue apertura cerca de donde vivimos como solía ir a un par de sus restaurantes de Londres así que hice una visita con mi familia. Por desgracia no fue lo que nos pasamos todo el día con ganas de. La comida era cálido y no hacía mucho calor, el pastel carne estaba un poco gristly y no había mucho en la manera de llenar. También no parecía haber mucha diferencia de tamaño entre la tarta estándar y la grande aparte de precio. Ofrecen solo licor y por desgracia no salsa, aunque he oído varias personas pide salsa mientras estuve allí. Estuvimos allí por 1.30 pm y estaba lleno, así que todas las mesas estaban ocupadas, puede valer la pena ir más temprano en el día, si te apetece dar una prueba. No tenían una silla alta así que puede que quieras considerar si tienes niños pequeños.

A last proper Pie & Mash in Hoddesdon. The pastry on the pies is excellent, the mash & liquor is also good and they have a variety of pies other than your usual minced beef.
