We had been trying to get a table for a few weeks and managed to get booked , as very popular since being under new management. Dave came and introduced himself which was nice to meet the owner, a nice touch. We couldn’t fault the roast Sunday dinner wich was seasoned well and presented well too , nothing was too much trouble the waitress and waiters were attentive and polite . So an excellent first visit we will be back!

Firstly, disregard any reviews over a few month's old. The Manor is under new ownership and is now top class. We went for Sunday lunch whilst on holiday in the area and were very impressed by everything. Dave really has plans to turn this place into something special and looks to be going about it in the right way. The food, service and ambiance were all top class and the prices are very reasonable. I just wish we lived nearer so that we could become regulars.

Substandard, avoid Starters were ok, not outstanding but ok, my father had the parfait (basically pate) which was presented nicely with his toast wrapped in a napkin presumably to keep it warm? The garlic mushrooms were ok not sure how long my bread was sat in the sauce for as it was very soggy, not what I would have expected from freshly toasted baguette. The main was horrid, I had to rehydrate the ‘stuffing’ to make it somewhat edible, the Yorkshire pudding looked great! But, they were inedible, they were definitely not cooked to order or cooked that day. I would bet they were cooked the day before and just left to dry out under to the heat lamp, I’ve never had anything like it! Dry, hard completely hollow all the way through just strange! The roast potatoes and veg weren’t much better, again not cooked that day and sempt to be stale and impossible to cut through. Gravy was salty the meat was ok at push but to be honest after chewing my way through the hard stale chewy veg I wasn’t much in the mood for dry pork or the well-done beef which was advertised as rare. Overall, the food came out quickly but at the cost of not being able to eat it. The décor is questionable, certainly tacky, and cheap looking. Not sure who chose the colour theme but well done it looks like a girls bedroom from the 00’s (groovy chick) with the crushed velvet lilac chairs, tacky plastic leaf lights covered in glitter covering the lovely beams. Shame as the serving area and bar have a lot of potential but the décor and food need to be addressed. My only regret is paying for the food. In hindsight my Mam and dad didn’t touch their mains I persisted so wish I had only paid for mine. Would not recommend or go back.

My girlfriend and I booked a table and arrived a little early, maybe ten minutes. On arrival my senses began tingling when we were told that that a menu would have to be ‘found’ as she had ‘ran out. For the next Ten minutes we were contemplating indeed where would these rare treasures would be found, if ever. Alas two menus were presented, and for the next further Ten minutes that passes. Nothing, no drinks order, no communication by staff. I would agree that on a busy Friday night this could have been acceptable on the presence of a menu on a table (heaven forbid), and being informed of any delay. This wasn’t the case as the venue was less than half empty. Completely unacceptable. Footnote, this was table service as observed by an order being paid for post meal next us.

This was a birthday meal where there was no service with a smile. Service is absolutely atrocious and non existent. Young, untrained staff who stand in the archway like vultures perched on a tree. They are too imposing and make you feel you are being watched constantly- CERTAINLY NOT what you want to have whilst eating. It’s very, very off putting and a MASSIVE distraction. It’s no good just coming over and say “Is everything alright?”, if it isn’t backed up with genuine feeling and body language. The other less offensive attribute, there was no hand pulled cask ale - ON A SATURDAY???- are you kidding me??? They’ve had all week to source it!!! It’s a bad sign of a pub in decline, which was apparent as I walked in and enquired......the alarm bells were ringing and should have trusted my instinct and walked straight back out. For such a lovely looking pub, looks can (and are) deceiving. It’s fur coat and no k******s I’m afraid, if you catch my drift.

I visited this outlet today 27/12/2019 for lunch with a friend, looking forward to it as my last review will show, I was impressed! How things can change . I went to the bar and ordered two haves of John Smiths Bitter £3.90, I thought a bit dear! When I got back to our table there were three drinks menus on the table covering all manner of drinks. I was browsing the beer one when I noticed John Smiths bitter was £3.40! I went back to the bar to enquire " dont take any notice of them they are wrong" I said well, why have them on the tables, no answer only to take the menu from me and put it behind the bar and walk off! I wondered if all three menus were wrong, had they all been increased by 17%, Surely not profiteering for the festive season?

On Saturday 19th October we celebrated a very special Mexborough Grammar School reunion at The Manor. The evening was a huge success thanks in part to the professionalism and cheerfulness of all the staff. Steve and Charlotte were extremely supportive throughout and Charlotte went the extra mile on the night to ensure that we all had a great time. The carvery was most enjoyable (no cold plates here!) and our one vegetarian catered for with ease. I've since received requests to organise reunions on a more frequent basis with the proviso that we return to The Manor. Well done to everyone involved.

The John Smiths beer was spot on too. First time going, so this may not be a fair review. Venue is lovely, service was good, but, sadly, the food left a bit to be desired. I had the moules mariniere as a starter - no doubt, the worst I’ve had at any restaurant. The cream based sauce was extremely watery and mussels so over cooked it was essentially eating rubber. The bread was nice though. I also had the ribs as my main, which were OK, bbq sauce was a bit flavourless. For the price of the meal, I had high hopes; unfortunately, the food did not impress. Again, beautiful venue, but you can’t eat the venue, so will not be returning any time soon.

Nobody came to check everything was ok once they had eventually brought it out!! Food was cold and dry! my 11 year old had lasagne but had to scrape all the dry top off before he ate his, the chips were not cooked through, burgers dry, coleslaw was the saving grace on mine as I at least had something to eat. Waitress was apologetic and embarrassed once we brought it to her attention and told us that the manager had to go in the kitchen to sort out the kitchen staff. All the tables round us were all in the same boat as us. On arrival we had expected sit down Sunday lunch, was told it was no longer that and heard the dreaded words carvery! having taken our place in the que it became quite apparent this was going to turn into quite the ordeal. The staff were dilly dallying about, and after around 12-15 minutes it started to feel like I was in the que at Alton towers waiting to board nemesis! So eagerly waiting ticket in hand, salivating at the thought of the succulent beef even touching my lips I finally arrived at the front of the que! I felt like I’d reached the summet of K2 and wanted to cement my place by inserting a flag into the roast pork in front of me. I was then told “sorry but we seem to have run out of gravy”! Had to wait another 5 mins! Although the veg was pretty bland I have to say the meant was tender and succulent (I had beef and pork) the yorkies were most definitely home made and had risen like a fresh water salmon and the honey roast parsnips were Devine! But then I reached the gravy right at the end, no sooner had I lifted the lid I was confronted with my WORST fear...... bisto! A wishy washy substance which I can only compare to dish water ruined my entire meal! For me the gravy is everything and should be rich and thick, full of gravy juices to which this was quite the opposite! Did your nana teach you nothing. Tut tut! Great pint of peroni though !

A lot has changed in 14 years. Lovely decor. Food not great. I had chilli con carne....nothing like chilli. Harsly any flavour and hardly any meat. Rice average. Poorly presented with tortilla chips all arranged around the side. Too many. Partner had rib eye steak....chips average, steak tasty and 3 onion rings. Again poorly presented. Staff friendly. Ample parking. Wouldn't have carvery on a Saturday. Loads of food left in warmer at the end of carvery service at 5pm.

This has been our go to place for a lovely evening out for a while, but this visit was anything but - where has the table service gone and the above your average night out menu gone? Replaced by order at the bar, pub style menu and cutlery in pots!! Food was ok when previously it has been delicious.

Meal came, yorkshire pudding roast beef, mash, roast potatoes. Slight delay on bringing out veg. Food was really tasty. Waitress was very pleasant and kept checking everything was ok.asked for more gravy and waitress fetched more pipping hot. Veg was good, not overdone. Newly re furbed, but you can't eat the decor. Very slow service, we waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive. My wife had the moules with frites, very small moules in a very watery sauce, I ordered sea bass, swimming in surplus oil. Our first visit and we will wait for an improvement in the reviews.

Myself and my partner both had the chicken pie. I thought it would have been home made . But I was very disappointed. The pie was all pastry and very Hard I think it was bought in frozen from bookers . The food did not meet the standards I though it would which is a shame .

First time here in years and was superb. Staff, cost, food & layout were all faultless. I had the chef’s choices and they were amazing (scotch egg for starter, cottage pie for main, bread & butter pudding for desert)...delicious. Not many people in this evening and honestly couldn’t understand why, we will definitely become regulars.

We recently visited this restaurant for a group night out. Having liaised with them in advance our large party were warmly welcomed on arrival and after drinks taken to our tables. The tables had been set out in an area separate from the main dining area as requested. Given the size of the party and some late requests for more starters the food duly arrived. Good sized portions and served hot. Staff extremely attentive and helpful all night. A big thank you to all at The Manor for a lovely evening.

After reading the reviews on here before I write my review I can’t believe its the same pub/restaurant. We had been to this pub before but many years ago so decided to try it again. We arrived and was taken to a table. We ordered our drinks while we looked at the menu, the menu is not vast but caters for most tastes. Our starter and main meals were superb. The portions are large, we were glad we had ordered a garlic bread to share as we could not have eaten a starter each then our main meal as well. The staff were attentive and friendly, would we visit again most definitely.

Awful - pretentious! The sparkle, glitz and glamour doesn’t extend itself as far as the food.

Went with my father for Sunday lunch, ordered roast sirloin slices and pork. Arrived at table about an hour later with 2 thin slices of fatty meat. Ordered desert had sticky toffee pudding found what looked like a piece of plastic. Informed waitress who took it to the kitchen and the came back with the same dessert and stated it was date stone and expected me to carry on eating (choking) on it. Complained to manager they didn’t really take us seriously. We will never go back again! Food is way over priced stay clear!

We came here as we were driving through Thorne. Saw this place, from the outside looked lovely. Well inside was drawn in by the fireplace, which was very inviting. However, was greeted by the barman he was very polite, well mannered. We asked if we could eat he said not till 5pm. We ordered our drinks and sat by the fire. When 5'o clock arrived we were given our menus. We looked, the menu wasn't very appealing. A few bits on the stater, was told that prawn cocktail, mozzarella sticks were not available, then the main courses were beefburger, cheese burger, Lasagne (Not available) so it was a bit of a hit and miss menu. Food came garlic bread didn't look appealing, wasn't cooked how we wanted it to be cooked. That got taken off the menu, which was easy enough. The mains were a bit bland, the beefburger had a weird taste and the chips were overcooked, it just didn't have a wow factor for us. The garlic bread got taken off our bill, the waiter was ok to do this. Would we come again? Not likely!!!

Not the place it used to be. Gone dirty and the gents toilet was disgusting as it looked like it hadn't been properly and hygienically bathroom cleaned for weeks. Service was slow and staff run off their feet because there wasn't enough of them. The once glorious soughdough bread has gone and there are no tea cakes (at Easter!!!). Such a shame as I used to enjoy going here....but not anymore. For the prices you pay, it is poor value for money. The owners have run the place down and should be ashamed. It used to be great

Helpful staff, pleasant surroundings but food very poor. In particular the Risotto with wild mushrooms and spinach. It was tasteless and no attempt made to present it well or garnish it. Just a heap of soggy rice. Embarrassing as friend was paying. Pie and chips reasonable. Lion of pork very tough stuffing. Talked up big but better food in market cafe at half the price
