Mangosteen in Portsmouth

I loved this restaurant on a first visit some 2 years ago, and if anything it is even better now. Great, delicious vegan food without any lazy faux meat substitutes. Service was attentive and efficient but not overbearing. I'm only ever in the area when travelling home to France on the ferry, but I will try to visit more often as restaurants like this are well worth supporting.

Excellent vegetarian/vegan restaurant with so many options of delicious-sounding dishes on the menu, it was hard to choose. We were both very pleased with our meals. The staff were friendly and helpful also. We will happily return. 🙏🏽

We went to Mangosteen on a Saturday evening. From when we first arrived, there was a very warm welcome and excellent service. We sat outside and had regular check ins from the team, ensuring we had all we needed, with a personal touch! We ordered 5 small plates which was the perfect amount. Each dish was delicious but the absolute favourite was the crispy Parmesan kale! Highly recommend to restaurant, which is rare to find such a passionate vegan focused place, with great service and excellent food.

So happy we found this place. We were only staying in Portsmouth for one night. We were looking for somewhere with vegan options for me, so I was elated to find a vegan/vegetarian restaurant nearby. The food did not disappoint, we had three courses and everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. The flavour combinations were so good, every taste was a delight. The hardest thing was choosing what to have because the whole menu looked amazing. I'd highly recommend the butternut squash wellington, that was incredible. My partner isn't vegan or vegetarian, but said it was one of the best meals he's had in a long time. There's a good choice of wine, cocktails and non alcoholic drinks too. We didn't try the cocktails as we shared a bottle of red wine, which was lovely. The atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Can not fault this vegan restaurant. Fantastic quality. You must try their carbonara!!! Will definitely be back soon.

Really impressive range of things that include plenty of vegan options, the carbonara in particular was really impressive. Overall, really nice fresh food that was prepared to a really quality standard. We were both super impressed!

Well I have to be honest - I was invited for Dinner for a Birthday for a party of 9 this evening and a vegan and vegetarian restaurant would not be my first choice and I would rarely choose non meat dishes! Wow - I was so impressed and to be fair I didn’t know what to choose as there were many items on the menu that really interested me! Luckily we all chose a selection of starters and main courses and the portions were of such a decent size that we all had the chance to taste each others ! Every dish was delicious and well presented and the service was just the right level of professional, attentive and friendly. We had the arrancini, mushrooms, Camembert, tempura vegetables and leeks to start followed by a wonderful selection of main course dishes / none of us had room for dessert ! I would definitely return and have to say for my first ever visit to a vegetarian and vegan restaurant I was really impressed by the whole experience. I give 5 stars very happily for food, service and overall experience and if I were being hyper critical the only thing I would say is that the lighting is quite bright once it is dark outside, it was daylight when we arrived but feel when we left the lights are quite bright, this would not detract me from recommending highly or returning - can’t wait to visit again / many thanks !

A wonderful tasty meal. Although not a vegan/veggie myself, I can honestly say that this was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Freshly prepared juices, subtly spiced and well presented food. Attentive staff and very good value for money…try it, I think you’ll be impressed.

My daughter and I went for lunch. We were welcomed with a delicious shot of turmeric mixture. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The restaurant was comfortable and roomy. The menu My daughter ordered the buttersquash Wellington and I had the truffle burger. We shared a potion of sweet potato fries. Both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented.

We were here last night for our Valentines dinner. I have been bugging the meat-eating boyfriend to take me to Mangosteen for ages and he finally caved! Blown away is a total understatement- from both of us. We were given a gorgeous non-alcoholic healthy shot before we ordered which totally attacked our taste buds with so many flavours, and made us really excited for the food to come. We shared the Tempura Veg and Breaded Mushrooms, both of which were beautiful. The tempura was really light and not too thick but still had so much lovely flavour and the veg was still aldente, which is so hard to do with tempura, and the mushrooms were gorgeous too. For main, I had been excited about the Butternut Squash Wellington and...just wow..it really didn't disappoint. So many flavours which complimented each other but also stood out on their own. I didn't want to get the carbonara as I cook it at home but having tried my boyfriend's, the restaurant totally elevated it to a whole new level. I had the raspberry/chocolate desert. It looked beautiful, the chocolate part was really rich but the raspberry sorbet and other additions complimented it perfectly. Yes, the dishes were a little bit smaller then others but this is a high level restaurant with homemade, fresh ingredients and we both felt relieved not to be overful and heavy as you so often can be after a 3 course meal and bottle of red! My boyfriend has IBS and a dairy allergy and he said that, although there's no meat, he really loved feeling safe with what he was eating and actually had a choice, for the first time in a long time. The service was attentive, but not too attentive, smiley and the decor was really stunning. I can't wait to go again.

Every course was delicious, I wish there was somewhere like this in Cardiff as I would go all the time. Veg dumplings were outstanding, Not carbonara was lovely, sorbet also lovely.

Such a good experience. Everything cooked fresh, everything was a riot of taste and thankfully no fake meat to be seen. The service was friendly and just the right balance of being attentive and letting us enjoy each other’s company. My Dad’s feedback was every mouthful is an adventure hence the title of my review 😁. So many wonderful dishes, we ordered half the small plates on the menu, and shared everything. We enjoyed every single dish and we will all return. Shame we didn’t get more pictures. We were too busy tucking in!

The food is excellent but unfortunately the so-so service and ambience lets this place down. If you are going to charge an automatic 12.5% service charge on top of your prices for any size of party, then the service needs to be better. We were slow to be seated, and our drinks did not come out at the same time. One was nearly 10 minutes before the rest which is not good when you want to toast someone on their birthday. One server was surly at best. Plus, the lighting is too bright - tone it down a notch for a better evening atmosphere.

Fantastic food and good service as usual. Even my carnivorous ‘a meal isn’t a meal without meat’ brother-in-law enjoyed it, and he didn’t realise the Carbonara he ate was actually vegan. Personally I avoid all dishes containing coconut ‘cheese’ and prefer the whole food options - which there are plenty of choices. Already looking forward to our next visit.

The wine and the food were excellent. I really enjoyed my pasta dish. It was a nice atmosphere and fairly busy in the restaurant. The portion sizes are perhaps a little small but we would definitely visit again.

The food is stunning, not only totally delicious but also beautifully presented, with a really great variety of dishes on offer. It is wonderful to have a vegan restaurant to dine in during the evening with elevated food. The restaurant is really elegant and the service was outstanding!

The main course portion size was tiny. We came just for a main course and drinks but left hungry. The main course mushroom risotto was Starter size - just a smear of rice & mushroom on the plate. The vegan Wellington was tasty but very small. A service charge of 15% was included in the bill, with no option not to pay.

What a strange experience. We had booked a works night out here last night. We had to prebook our choices which I'm never a fan of. We had to wait ages for our drinks which arrived in dribs and drabs . Infact some of the party had finished their drinks by the time the others had arrived. The service was surly at best infact I don't think I saw the waitress smile once. However the weirdest thing was they bought all the food at once starters and mains. Some if the party due to illness couldn't make it however even though we wrote down the changes gor th all the dishes arrived. I don't think I've ever been anywhere that serves all the food in one hit. The waitress was slow to clear the cluttered table. The food was OK but nothing special. We won't be back.

This was our third visit since opening and the menu has matured nicely. Service is excellent and the restaurant has very tasteful decor. I took non vegan friends with me who equally enjoyed their food choices. Personally I can recommend the braised leeks and the wellington. The sauces and purées on the dishes are amazing. I won’t be leaving it so long for a return visit.

Visited due to a meal out with our vegan friend and so didn't expect much. Extremely happy with the decor, service and the fantastic food 👌 It won't change my eating habits but I will definitely visit again as the menu is updated regularly and I'm always interested to try new things.
